Alexandra was a great help to us when we visited. It was very busy but the staff were clearly trying their hardest to help. We will be back again, stunning views .

In need of more poor girls were run off there feet would put a lot of people off having to wait not the staffs fault need more feet on the ground . Other wise did enjoy the meal 😋

I have been at the Ty Mawr Inn Lisvane 3 times since the end of January (2023). A family evening meal, a birthday meal and last Thursday, a pub lunch with a mate. First class service and quality food on each occasion. My family and I enjoyed steak, fish (whale sized cod), cheese and potato pie and a vegetarian lasagne. Everyone enjoyed and left well satisfied. Warm staff and the managers, Rebecca & Matt were very attentive and exceptionally friendly. Friends and neighbours are saying the same. I guess we are going to become regulars. Great to enjoy going somewhere you can trust to have a good meal and quality service. 😊

Been there four times now once for a wake and three times for 30 percent main meals vouchers First time we have been disappointed in the service tonight as normally very good. Lady called Michelle served us before and she was excellent. Hopefully just a one off and back to usual good service in the future

The weather was nice and i don't think the pub was properly staffed for it. When we got there we waited 10 mins to be seated dispute having booked. There was a queue of about 10 people at the bar and only one server in sight. Once we got seated and the rest of our party turned up no one came to take a drinks order and we had to ask if it was actually table service or did we need to go to the bar. We were told it was table service and still waited 5 more minutes for someone to come and take the order. We started to order only for my sister in law and mother to be told that what they wanted wasn't available. My mum changed her order and again what she wanted wasn't available. The server then came back to tell us the starters we ordered also weren't available. When the drinks came my mum was brought a pint if coke and not the vodka and coke she ordered which we then asked to change. We went to the bar to order further drinks as we figured it would be quicker. By the time the food came we had been there over an hour. The food itself was also poor. We had four lamb meals which were supposed to be served pink but we're definitely not, and didn't come as described, no carrots, should've come with garlic and rosemary potatoes but they where more like cubed chips. The children's meals were also no better, the chicken dippers were overdone and my son had practically no chips with his meal. We were going to order dessert but thought it best to cut our losses. The only reason we didn't complain at the time was because we were celebrating my mother's birthday and she asked us not to make a fuss. We've come to the Ty Mawr for my her birthday the past few years and always had a good experience. Needless to say next year we'll be going elsewhere. The two stars are because the setting is lovely and the kids had a nice time in the playground. Plus I think the servers were trying their best but were very understaffed.

The ty mawr is a lovely venue with great views and a large garden/kids play area. Unfortunately the last few times we have come here the service has been slow/understaffed with many items not available on the food or drinks menu.

Great scenic pub with friendly staff

Chewy rubbery burger patties, served cold. Staff were unbelievably slow for a quiet night so god help them on a busy one. Nice atmosphere outside during sunset but don’t bother ordering food as it’s not worth it.

Great pub and lovely food. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We visited on Mothers Day which was very busy and there should’ve been more staff on duty. However, the staff we had were amazing. Would re visit and recommend to others.

Sorry but service was absolutely awful this evening. Waited 50 mins to even have a drinks order. Two tablets that arrived after us got their order taken first. Food was ordered but then told it wasn’t available. Thankfully it didn’t spoil the evening, as the location and food was lovely (and I had lovely company) but feel the place was really let down with the awful service. Would be hesitant to visit again

Cracking pub with great views and a lovely beer garden. You can't beat it on a summer's day

Honestly, it was a little disappointing. Maybe they were short on staff that day, but everything seemed to take forever, so by the time the food arrived, we'd already been waiting far too long & just wanted to go home. The food was OK without being notable or special. They really need to invest in more staff (although I appreciate waiting staff are hard to recruit & keep).

The function room was closed to the toilets. The smell emanating from the toilet was awful.

Very good service, waitress was friendly and quick to serve us. Drinks did take a while to arrive at the start which was the only negative of the experience. Food was excellent and a really nice menu!

Had a birthday party for my two year old granddaughter. The venue was good and the bar staff were friendly. The food was very disappointing! The steak was like boot leather (that I couldn’t eat), the burgers were burnt on the edges. So I would say nice place for a pint but give the food a miss!

Really disappointing, especially after having heard so many great things. The staff were friendly, once you got their attention, but all in all they were very inefficient. We had to ask for someone to come and take our order and then the food took 90 minutes to arrive, which is particularly poor considering it was just 2 roast dinners, so likely just needed plating. At no point during that time did anyone ask if we wanted another drink. When the food did arrive, it was barely warm and the portion size was seriously lacking... there was a big Yorkshire pudding and a few roasties, but small and wafer thin sliced meat, a single piece of carrot, a single (burnt) piece of parsnip, and 1 teaspoon worth of greens and cabbage. I actually asked the waitress if they were bringing the veg separately before realising that what we'd been presented with was the full meal. Still very much hungry by the end, but couldn't face waiting another agonisingly long time for pudding.

Long waits, very poor vegan options - vegan versions are a much smaller similarly priced dishes with just subtractions really. The tart is nice but still feels as though vegans are short changed for the offering. No dessert on the menu is odd - seems like an afterthought.

Ty Mawr – Great experience! I had a wonderful time at Ty Mawr. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is friendly. The food was delicious with fresh ingredients and great flavors. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a tasty meal in a relaxed environment!

Alway a lively atmosphere and a great place to visit last minute if you don’t feel like cooking or help combat the winter weather

The setting is incredible. The exterior and interior are really lovely, the staff polite and pleasant. The food let it down, for me. I ordered whitebait as a starter, it was very overcooked and very smelly. I couldn't eat more than 1. Thankfully I thought, I'd ordered some thick cut chips, described as skin on. No skin. They were thick cut but really pale and dry. And some undercooked in part. Latte very weak and tepid. The dessert saved the day...delicious cheesecake with cherry compote. My friend ordered a sandwich which was very full, in fairness, but the bread was 'normal packet sliced, it seemed. The sandwich fell apart but she enjoyed. Her dessert also saved the day, a sticky toffee pudding. Her mocha was also very strange and tepid. Will we go back, I don't think so.

30% off appeared to mean 30% LESS FOOD. i.e 1 slice of carrot, 1 slice of parsnip etc and what food was on the plate was very poor. Lots of missing items...No crackling with pork, no 'pie' with lamb, there was black plastic served with the turkey.! They took the price of 2 mains off the bill. They were very busy and obviously ' stretched the food out.'

Lovely venue, lovely atmosphere and great staff, but woefully understaffed. 20+ minutes for 4 drinks, 35 minute wait for dessert (before going to bar to chase), took almost 2.5hrs for a family of 4 to have 4 mains and 2 desserts. Real shame and not the fault of the attentive staff who were doing their best.

Very good service. Food pricey. Chicken, leek pie nothing special. Fish and chips good. 30% discount on meals helped. Lots of children for early evening.

They struggle with busy days, which unfortunately have been the only days I've visited. You feel like a nuisance (and sometimes you're told you are!) The location and beer garden are really lovely and the one time we were able to get some food it was good.

Shocking.If you have an establishment that large you need too have the staff on duty to cope.And management who don't walk past you and ignore you.A Two course meal should not take Two hours and 48 mins .And the customer should not have to find the menus go searching for the wine ordered and sit for an hour with dirty plates infront of them,and wait an hour between courses. I have been in the catering trade.And I can honestly say never expected my birthday celebration lunch turning out to be very embarrassing infront of my family and friends. First experience here won't be returning. The only speedy process of the whole experience was asking for the bill and paying.

This review does not serve as a reflection of any hospitality service or the quality of food & drink, it is purely a reflection on service received from admin/management regarding trying to book use of their function room. I would have to strongly recommend not considering this venue's function room for any type event due to the shockingly terrible and unprofessional service my partner and I have received. We have been waiting over two weeks for a reply back after confirming interest in booking the function room for our wedding venue the lack of response has meant it will cost us money (due to the non refundable deposit for booking the registrar) We visited the function room twice to view the space, get information on prices, availablity etc and after finally being able to meet with the events coordinator, we confirmed by email on 9th February that we would be interested in booking the discussed date for our wedding. We received a reply back two days later, confirming that Ty Mawr have held the date for us and I was instructed to book a registrar and confirm timings for the ceremony, before Ty Mawr could send me the deposit link to secure the date. I booked the registrar within 30 minutes and I responded back to confirm the details of the ceremony booking and asked for the deposit amount and link. We still have yet to receive any form of a reply from the venue despite chasing Ty Mawr on 6 occasions (3 times by email, 3 by phone) Two of the times I called, it went to voicemail and I was asked to leave a message for them to respond back to but they never did. The 3rd time, the call was answered and I was told the necessary person who could send the deposit link to me was off that day and that they would put a note for them to contact me the following day but we still haven't received anything at all. (I did not receive any form of an apology or explanation for not having a response for over a week). I am very disappointed by this outcome and will not be recommending Ty Mawr for event booking.

The staff were very good with allergens. They asked about food allergies immediately and confirmed that the kitchen had been wiped down when we explained that Wood member of the party had a nut allergy…… Not many places do this, so I was grateful for their attention and care for the person with the allergy to nuts…. I would definitely go back here again for a quick pub Meal

Setting is amazing as always, so too the service. Unfortunately let down massively by the food. Paying £17.50 for a burger that isn't even seasoned? A shame...

Service was poor we waited 45 minutes for our main course. There didn't seem to be enough staff on.

Michelle was a lovely member of staff. Why do restaurants serve hot food on cold plates? Surely that’s the easiest thing to get right? My pie pastry was rock solid and carrots ( 2 slices) very limp. My wife’s chips were warm ish and didn’t taste freshly fried. Disappointing sorry.

Table of 5, everyone had complaints over the portions and quality of meal. Soggy veg, concrete-like pastry, burnt steak, rubbery mash and a dribble of peppercorn sauce provided with the mixed grill. Only 3 staff that we could see, looking after customers, leading to long waits for being seen and getting bill. Food came out quick, but that's not a positive in context, given the issues we had... Complained to manager about poor quality of meals, rather dismissive but they did take care of bill, credit where it is due.

Turned up, around 3 tables full, we were told that the place was fully booked and couldn't accommodate a party of 2.

Come for Sunday lunch yesterday, roast sirloin of beef was amazing, service was quick despite being very busy, would highly recommend this pub to friends and family. Thanks and see you again soon.

I used to love coming here but it seems to have gone downhill. The actual pub itself is lovely - gorgeous building and grounds but the service really lets it down. We had a table booked early evening and after going up to order, we found out that 3 of the dishes we wanted were sold out. It was a shame this wasn't relayed to us when we first sat down. The staff weren't hugely professional - speaking amongst themselves whilst you were waiting to get served and the manager was eating her dinner standing up at the bar. The roast dinner was perhaps average, with very dry beef and potatoes. In my opinion it was what was left from the day and put in the microwave for 3 minutes. Still a nice beer garden and interior but not sure I'd come back again for food.

A warm pub with a nice Sunday lunch atmosphere, good food and friendly staff. There's a great view over Cardiff and my daughter loves playing in the garden and in the playground there.

Very disappointed with this establishment. They have a lovely pub and lovely views but are poor on helping their customers to have a good experience. I won’t be going back there for food as I’ve been let down over my chosen dessert 3 times now (!) and given no compensation in any form for them not having it. It’s a cheesecake that sounds delicious and is on their menu and each time I’ve asked for it ( on different days and times ) they have ‘run out’. The second time they ran out, my hot drink was supposed to be on the house but put they charged us for it- we only realised once we had left. The third time I was given nothing but a slice of lemon in my tap water. Not only that but one of their drinks on their menu which I fancied is no longer served! Very poor. I would hope an establishment would do all they could to make up for a disappointment with their food.

Beautiful Sunday lunch well worth a visit friendly staff.

I contacted the Ty Mawr to see if they could fit a large party in at very short notice. A close friend died on Boxing Day and we wanted somewhere to meet up with his family to support them and each other and have somewhere to share stories. The Ty Mawr were fantastic, finding us a space where we could sit together away from other customers so it was private, so there could be tears, chat, anecdotes and laughter. It was so appreciated by us all - giving us somewhere to be together at such a sad time. Many thanks, especially to Michelle, who managed to accommodate us on the day and at the time we requested, and treated us with so much consideration and respect. All the staff were great, and the food and drink were as usual excellent.

Absolutely brilliant breakfast with Santa. We were a few families together and so a large table but the pub happily accommodated us and let all 7 children visit Santa together. He was the best Santa I have seen and amazing with the children. Breakfast was a cooked breakfast but high quality and large portions. I’m looking forward to booking us all in for next year. It was great having it close to Christmas as it felt so festive. Priced very well and didn’t feel ripped off.

Lovely country-style pub, with a great cozy atmosphere and amazing views over Cardiff. We had a great service with no delays on one of the busiest days of the year (Christmas eve). Food was good quality, and they serve proper pies 👍 thanks to Michelle for hosting us and making us feel so relaxed!

Breakfast with Santa was fantastic! Breakfast was yummy, staff super friendly! Manager greeted us which was lovely. The Santa was brilliant interacted with children defo would have paid more. Pub has a great vibe.... would defo return for a nice evening meal.

Food we were charged for extra pigs in blanket and cauliflower cheese which came after we had finished meal and the sea bass meal was very cold and even the waitress agreed wouldn't go back

Each time I come here the is service is great and the food is always lovely! Good prices for the quality food you get. Michelle was such a lovely and helpful waitress.

We were greeted in a warm & friendly manner. The pub was decorated perfectly for the Christmas season. Our festive food was delicious & plentiful. The Christmas pudding was amazing. Overall a lovely experience.

Very relaxed environment- quite a simple menu- food was hot and tasty- Staff were lovely and service was very good, although we did have to wait a while for our dessert. We were seated by the fireplace , which is probably lovely in winter but without the fire glow the area was quite dark- it would benefit from more warm lighting to make it more welcoming. That being said, it was a relaxing lunch to catch up with an old friend.

Lovely setting for a family lunchtime meal, beautiful food and fabulous views. We sat by the log fire which was cosy. Service was excellent, will visit again.

I Hadn’t visited here for a number of years after moving away from the area. It was great to see the pub in fantastic condition and still in a great setting. Nice atmosphere and cosy fires. Friendly staff who were very attentive. The food was also excellent and served without any hassle.

Unfortunately due to a power cut we only had our starter, it took 40 minutes for staff to notify us that we may not have the main course. I realise it was a difficult situation but better communication would have been appreciated. It was so late that we could go to an alternative venue.

Service was slow and food poor quality. Peas must have been cooked days ago they were like rocks. Quite a few things on the menu were not available. Won't be rushing back.

Professional, friendly and attentive service and encouraged our disabled daughter to order her own food and engage in conversation. Able to use my Taste Card so 25% off the bill. We will return. Party of five arrived for food. Ordered food via the QR code on the menu. First problem was that multiple dishes people wanted were not available. A vegan member of the party ordered the only remaining dish available to him, but after we'd paid and were waiting for the food a member of staff came out to inform us that it was a lunchtime option and also not available. We had to cancel the whole order and go elsewhere. Unfortunately this isn't my first negative food experience at Ty Mawr and there appears to be an underlying problem that needs resolving. Many friends and colleagues have also had problems ordering food there and it has acquired a bad reputation locally. This isn't a criticism of the staff who were all polite and professional.

The burger was terrible! portion size was tiny and well overpriced probably the only place that serves 3oz burgers instead of your 4oz quarter pounders you get everywhere else disappointed would be an understatement!
