The couple that own this b&b was friendly and helpful. I personally found the room we stayed in a bit chilly but it was clean and comfortable. What would really benefit the rooms would be a decent size of tv, we couldn't even see what channel we were on without going right over to the TV. Think it was a 17inch. Breakfast was cooked to order and was lovely.

Very strange atmosphere - felt like we weren’t wanted and an annoyance. Food was microwaved or oven job. Expensive for what it is. Felt so uncomfortable the whole time we were there

I stayed for 2 nights and had a really lovely stay. My room was in the lodge outside. It was really clean and very comfortable indeed. Ruth and Mark were super hosts - chatty and fun to talk to. The breakfast was excellent and the location is ideal, with easy access to the mountains/Llanberis and also for the coast. I would definitely recommend the Groelson Ty Mawr!

Nice place to have a bite to eat. Came here over 25 years ago and it was nice to return to in our holiday at nearby Brynteg Leisure Park. Owner a bit gruff when we went in ,as nobody else was in tea rooms.,but was more pleasant we asked for recommendations in Anglesey. I had chicken tikka and rice which came with salad, while my wife had scampi and chips with salad. Food very hot and tasty and would recommend.Nic

After being initially greeted with what seemed like suspicion the service was warm and friendly. The owners have a nice dog and the place is pleasant. I ordered a coffee and a scone and sat outside. The coffee was alright and the scone was not bad, but clearly bought in. When I went to pay, I was told that the price was £8.20. I questioned this, making sure that the server knew what I had ordered. When he confirmed the price, I asked for a breakdown of the pricing. I was told that the coffee was £2.50 and the scone was £4.80. "Everything has gone up, we have to order them in as we don't have the time to make them", I was told. So flabbergasted was I from the price I was quoted that I temporarily lost the power of arithmetic, and paid the £8.20. When I relayed my story to a friend they informed me that the true price should have been £7.30 - which I would still have considered far too much for a coffee and a scone. So, in my opinion, the price was far too high, and I was overcharged to boot. Not a bad place but I won't be back - and I don't recommend the scone.

Passed these Tea Rooms many times on the way to our caravan outside Caernarfon, as they are situated at a prime spot by a crossroads roundabout between Llanberis & Bangor. Lovely kept Olde Worlde premises, which are also a B & B. Decided to give the place a try, early afternoon, on the way back from a walk. Usual tea room menu, do full meals as well; we just had a pot of tea and some tasty welsh cheese sandwiches; just the job. Not over busy. Pleasant service from the proprietors, nothings cheap anymore, but prices in keeping with other places we have visited. Good place to stop, when in the area

Had the pleasure of stopping by on a Saturday afternoon for a warmed fresh scone with jam and cream and homemade beautiful lasagne. The food was delicious and the lovely couple who own the place were very welcoming and friendly and were genuine and kind. Will definitely return. If you do happen to be in the area and you enjoy proper home cooked food in a welcoming environment stop in and support this lovely small business. It’s a gem. 5*

We’ve recently moved to the area, and decided to check Ty Mawr Tea rooms for breakfast on our way to a wedding. Got seated and given a menu, waited for 15 minutes to be told that they are no longer serving breakfast (I’m writing this review just after leaving, it is 10.38am) and promptly given the lunch menu. When asked what time breakfast normally finishes so we know for another time, we were told it’s normally 11 but today it’s now. Really unhelpful. This is very unfortunate for the establishment as they’ve just lost 2 new and local customers, plus any recommendations that we would have made to friends and family visiting us and we’ve had a lot of those since moving up. Looks like we’ll stick with our recommendation for caffi caban, we just thought we’d try somewhere new.

This is situated just off the intersection of 2 very busy roads. Very pleasant young waitress with a smile. We just wanted tea and cake while on a hilly bike ride and we got just that. Two teas and a shared cake £7.20.

Having seen it on the way into Llanberis we thought we'd give it a go for lunch - the fact the carpark was empty and there was no one in the restaurant should have given us a bit of a warning! We were there about an hour and no one else came in, which with it being set on a busy road /roundabout in a tourist hotspot, was also a sign. Service was okay, food (we ordered ciabatta's) were poor and the stray grey hair in the salad was an unexpected bonus. CHIPS were really good though thankfully. Seemed expensive for what was being served - I think a baked potato with cheese or beans was £7.50 The place looks to have gone for a 'cottage tea room ' theme in the 1980's and stuck with it. Could do with updating as tables and curtains looked like they'd seen better days.

Having pulled up with a very tired i83 year old and a hangry 5 year old we were pleased to have their needs met in record time and by an enormous fish finger, and the required range of squash. The ice cream that followed also went down rapidly. The cream tea enjoyed by 2 exhausted grandparents was also delicious. We were very grateful for the rapid service, the willingness and obvious knowledge to meet the needs of very small people and the huge scones and a decent cuppa. Would not hesitate to return.

I'm a great believer in the fact that it's the owners, managers of establishments that make the difference. Sure the food's got to be good but what differentiates similar places with similar food ... The folk !The folk at Ty Mawr are fabulous, as is their establishment as is their food.Doing a run Liverpool to Llanberis to go up Mt Snowden, Peg and I got two things right, chose the right day, sunshine and stunning views forever more and stopped for a cuppa here.It was just a cuppa and toasted tea cakes all round but everything about it was just right and the folk were very friendly.I noticed they did a cottage pie, chips and peas for lunch / dinner, I'm big sucker for several things one of which is cottage pie so tried to convince Peg that we should come back this way later in the day but was given the evil eye .... So not such a good idea then !As it happens and quite by chance several days later I was driving Caernarfon to Penmaenmawr and so was coming at it from " the wrong direction " didn't recognise it until I drove past, did the big U'ey and even though it was 3pm and I wasn't particularly hungry got my cottage pie, chips and peas.I'm a simple bloke and I like simple fare and this was simply the best ever and I've had a lot of cottage pies over a lot of years. Was it as good as my dear ole mum used to make all them years ago when I was a kid growing up in Wales, nope !It was far better, my dear ole mum's cooking wasn't really THAT good and the folk were very friendly .....

When we called for an evening meal, we were the only people there. The members of staff were very friendly and knowledgable about the area. The seating area was very clean and spacious. My husband and I had the Cod, chips and peas and our daughter the lasagna and chips. For dessert we had scone, jam and cream and our daughter the Chocolate Pavlova coronet. Our meals were well cooked and presented and served a purpose. The food can best be described as ‘ Frozen at its best’.

I have been to Ty Mawr on a few occasions and have been more than satisfied, and from those experiences I would have given a 5 star review. However, today I didn’t stay to taste any food due to shoddy customer service. We had a lovely young lad serving us initially. I decided to have ciabatta with brie, bacon and chutney. This was not an actual menu choice, but they did serve bacon, they did serve brie and they did serve chutney in the choices of ciabattas. Eg chicken and brie, bacon and egg, cheese and chutney etc. I asked the young man if it would be at all possible to have bacon, brie and any chutney of their choice in mine, to which he agreed. About five minutes later, a lady came to the table and said that I couldn’t have that choice of ciabatta that it wasn’t on the menu. If I had been informed of this initially, I could have made another choice when ordering. What baffles me is that they were offering these three ingredients in other ciabattas anyway. I would have not minded paying any extra if needed, but all I got was that “It wasn’t on the menu”. If I’ve asked for a tweak in fillings anywhere else, there has never been a fuss or problem. I decided to have my lunch elsewhere. I will not be back to Ty Mawr any time soon for this reason only.

At a busy crossroad, it puzzled us how many cars whistled past and how few were in the car park. We soon learny that the number of cars at a pub is not always an indicator of its quality. We took a chance and drove in. Immediately we were deeply impressed. We entered the bright and clean establishment, and received a friendly welcome by host and hostess, the latter being the cook. The home-prepared fare, modest in cost, adequate in choice, was of the highest quality. As the four of us were near to needing to find a B&B, we decided to look no further and stayed the night in clean and pleasant accommodation, leaving refreshed after a sumptuous breakfast..

Awful experience. We arrived around 2 pm, and we asked what the soup was. We were told it was Parsnip and immediately ordered. The member of staff went to the kitchen to ask something and then came out to say they are no longer serving food. We found this odd given that she had just confirmed the soup with the kitchen, and the cafe is open until 4 pm. Fair enough if we were trying to order at 3.45pm, but this was at 2pm. We ordered coffees and welsh cakes, which took 20 minutes to come (cafe was empty, save for ourselves). The rude member of staff then slammed them on the table, didn't even take the items off the tray, and walked off. Never have I had such an awful customer service experience. Complete letdown to what is a lovely area.

An out-of-town farm/campsite/farmshop. Reasons for 5* = service (friendly), quality (.take a look round the shop), price (very good value) . I thought this was a lovely place. As a family we’d all happily revisit. Good value for the quality of produce. In Leeds (where we come from) could charge a lot more. We’d happily happily revisit

A most welcoming local pub with an excellent chef who happily adapted starters into a main for me - veggie! Although menu catered for everyone. Mine hosts were so cheerful & hardworking - many could take a leaf out of their books! The place was absolutely buzzing with people of all ages - locals & holidaymakers having the time of their lives singing along to the live musician of the evening who sang everything from Beatles/John Denver to modern day...talented chap! We will definitely be back - next time we may stay if not during the summer months, perhaps for an Autumn/Spring walking holiday!
