Ty Golchi in Gwynedd

Visited for lunch, it was fairly busy a few spare tables. The food was very disappointing and not up to the standard and quality of previous visits. The burger was very bland and the chips I brought home to give to the dogs as a treat, they were tasteless. Previous visits we have adored the chips and the meals overall. It wasn’t cheap either. When I went to pay, the assistant asked ‘was everything ok’ and I told her it wasn’t a scratch on previous visits, told her what I was doing a disappointment the chips had been . She said ‘Oh’ ..... that’s it, no apology just gave me the bill to pay. Not a comment received. Very disappointed indeed.

My wife and I arrived for a 2pm Festive Tea and had left by 2.45pm!! On arrival a waitress told us where our table was "just round the corner there" - we sat down, crackers, a plate and a Xmas serviette on an awaiting plate each. We were asked as to our preferences of sandwiches and shortly afterwards the tea/coffee arrived - no sugar offered or supplied - we had to ask for it. Waitress returned with 6 small sachets of sugar which she deposited on the bare wooden table. When the food arrived - our sandwiches were lovely but from that, and in my opinion, it went downhill from there - why were two warm stuffing balls and two filo pastry fried brie placed in the middle of the cakes? I am not a lover of cupcakes or cinnamon - two large cup cakes on the plate and small star shaped Welsh cakes with a large amount of cinnamon therein. OK I can accept that you cannot cater for each and every taste. This is not our first tea or festive tea but I cannot say that what we had would entice me to go back there again. Generally a staff member asks if you want a top-up, not here - one did ask whilst she was cleaning a nearby table and holding a rag and spray if everything was OK but the speed she moved at hardly enabled any response! My wife found the food to be OK but was also disappointed on the standard/quality of service - I got the distinct impression that it was a case of 'here's your food, eat up and leave'. We did just that and not to return again. There are other and far better teas in the area and I will be 'voting with my feet and wallet'. Is 45mts to eat a festive tea a record? In most other places we have spent more than double that time and left a generous tip for the staff. General feeling from both of us was that the service was poor, inattentive staff, food - far too sweet and as locals we are unlikely to return to Ty Golchi.

Had the afternoon tea for 3 people today. Must say it was amazing! Plenty of sandwiches, cakes, scones etc, but what was unexpected was the extra Eton Mess!! Just fabulous. The staff were so friendly and made our visit very enjoyable indeed. Would highly recommend.

I had lunch at Ty Golchi and immediately I arrived I felt safe. Firstly there was a Track and Trace to sign which was reassuring, all staff wore masks and the tables were safely distanced. And that was before I got to the food! That was, as always superb. It arrived promptly and was delicious. This was my first venture out from Lockdown and I must admit I was a bit anxious. I needn’t have been. They participated in Eat Out Help Out but I would have gladly paid full price.Ardderchog. Werth pob ceiniog!!

It is a lovely cafe/restaurant, the food is lovely and the staff are very pleasant. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the paintings on the wall are beautiful. They also had beautiful cakes, which I very much wanted to sample today, but was unable to. The service needs a little work. I did mention it when I paid, and received an apology, but still no cake. Please train the staff a little better, I would love to visit again as you’re right on our doorstep.

Only just opened post Covid and social distancing was good. The veggie breakfasts were excellent. Nice bread and perfect scrambled egg. Good coffee too

First time visit for lunch with my elderly Mother. We opted for Sandwiches, Panini & Sweet Potato Chips. The food was excellent and plentiful. The staff were professional, courteous and helpful which is a credit to them. I will most definitely visit again. Diolch o galon.

Went here for lunch today on the recommendation of a friend and I was really really impressed. Upon parking in the ample car park we spotted a lovely little shop adjacent to the Ty Golchi which sold the most beautiful items we walked through the shop then into the Ty Golchi. The staff very welcoming and smartly dressed, We were seated and our drinks taken, we ordered the soup of the day with a sandwich and my 4 year old the kids pizza. Meals arrived pretty quickly and were well presented, the food was really nice. My daughter needed the toilet but I was quite disappointed, the floor in both cubical was very wet (unsure if it was urine or water) the toilet roll holder kept falling off the wall, (I did notice blue tack on the top of it, I presumed this was to try and keep it shut..........failed!!) it was a very busy lunch time and maybe the staff didn’t get time to check them out regularly. It didn’t put us off completely as I will return. No WiFi either!!

Lovely food all home made there is a daily specials board and fabulous cakes.there is a small shop attached selling unique gifts with a welsh slant.the staff are friendly and welcoming in both languages.

Have been here now on several occasions and have really enjoyed the food and friendly atmosphere created by the lovely staff there, keep having to go back, very busy place so book in advance, I can really recommend here shame it is not open in the evening.

I had won a voucher for Afternoon Tea for two and decided that I would book the Festive Afternoon Tea for 5 of us which I would have to pay the additional difference for. I was a little disappointed with the Xmas Pud Eclair - I expected an eclair with Xmas pud in it or Xmas pud flavoured cream ?! It was a small choux bun decorated to look like a xmas pud..... that’ll teach me ! Each one of us was allowed to choose a sandwich in a flavour of choice - they did not bring a selection as in a traditional a/tea - I rather liked that as I don’t eat the cheese sandwich which is always one of the options. There were 7 sweet cakes if I recall - very sweet and possibly a little sickly if you don’t have a sweet tooth like me! There was plenty of tea and coffee brought to the table when we asked for it! There were a couple of other savoury items that accompanied the sandwiches - a tasty stuffing ball was one of them and a sausage roll. We were able to take the left over cakes home in a box. It was ok but I wouldn’t necessarily have it again!

Very disappointed.I will not be going back. The Sunday lunch was horrible. I am quite sure The roast potatos had been sitting under the light for a long time.The Mash potatoes seemed powered it was disgusting.2/10.One word bland 🤮

I visit here frequently, excellent service every time. Carvery is so tasty, main meals excellent and afternoon tea is lovely too! It’s nice to have a cafe that is so passionate about the welsh language, which sadly, is rare nowadays in North Wales. Diolch!

Went with the family last Saturday for lunch and could not have been more impressed. Friendly service, lovely food and a great, busy ambience in restaurant. Staff could not do enough for two kids in our group. Will be our place of choice when family next together up this way.

This meal is something to be admired - and tasted. A turkey bap, cranberry sauce, a pig in blanket and chips. The meal was excellent and quite a change. Ty Golchi is always busy so it was a good thing that we had booked. Gwasanaeth gwych hefyd mewn awyrgylch naturiol Gymreig a Chymraeg. Llawer iawn o ddiolch.

Called here on a whim for coffee and snacks. Cheerful and welcoming staff, prompt service in bright and quirky surroundings. The waffles with ice cream and maple syrup were awesome. Lots of coventional, yummy cakes to choose from too.

We visit regularly on a Saturday morning for breakfast. It can get quite busy at times but we've always got a table. The breakfasts are lovely, made with quality ingredients and a massive wedge of toast. Staff are always welcoming and friendly and the prices are fair for the quality of food. We'll worth a visit if you're near.

Arrived just after 10am, it was already quite busy but found a table easily. Staff were friendly and our meals arrived quite promptly. Do is was piping hot and good sized portions, good value for money.

We booked in advance as we had heard it can get busy. Stories were right. We arrived and the place was chocca. People were queuing. Staff appeared a little stressed but they still smiled and were polite. Service was impeccable and attentive. Friendly too... As for the food, we didnt have to wait too long despite the full resteraunt. As you can see by the picture the food is full on your plate, fresh and tasty. A bit pricy, but you get what you paid for. I would have no heaittaion in suggesting this place. Want a cheap greasy spoon? Do not come here. Want quality food and drink, then go now!! ☺

Well what can we say !! Lovley food started with the meat cheese bread sharing board for 2 followed by cod & cauliflower curry, mackerel dish, patatas & chorizo, fig salad beef brusheta all lovely with a bottle of wine a few gins and a fantastic desert. Shaun served us and all the room well....massive thanks for the hospitality!! We can not wait to come back

Came here with friends for a relaxing lunch. Lots of choice on the menu. Friendly staff. Food very tasty and plentiful. I recommend booking in advance as it gets very busy.

Visited on Thursday, 19th September with a friend. Arrived at 1215pm and it was already very busy. I had emailed them the day before to book a table but apparently they don’t monitor the emails so phoning them is the best way to book. We decided to sit outside as it was such a lovely day. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. I was disappointed that they had run out of jacket potatoes which is what I was planning to have but never mind there was plenty of other choices on the menu. Something to please everyone. My friend who has allergies was impressed with the gluten free options on the menu. My friend had an impressive salad which had cheese, ham, prawns and tuna in it. She was very happy with it. I had some sandwiches, salad and crips. It was very nice and fresh. The building itself doesn’t look that impressive from the outside but inside has been decorated nicely and modern. I hadn’t been to the Tŷ Golchi for years and pass it all the time on the way to Bangor but I am glad I visited today. I will definitely be returning soon and hope there will be jacket potatoes available when I do!!

This is the fourth time I have visited this restaurant. I have never been disappointed. On two occasions I had their Welsh rarebit. It is the nicest I have ever had. Other meals equally delicious. The prices are very reasonable, and the menu is varied. It is usually very busy, but service good.

4 of us went for lunch - Abyssmal would be high praise. Caesar salad was Cash & Carry Frozen Chicken lumps, Scampi was doughy blobs with something fishy in them & the chips smelt & tasted of stale oil. Staff inattentive & lackadaisical.

Was extremely disappointed last week to find the quality of food here so poor as this had been somewhere we've stopped a number of times over the years - have since been advised that it is under new management, so sincerely hope that the new management get their act together. We should have known better when we heard the couple at the next table complaining about not being able to eat their food and I noticed a family being what I thought was 'incredibly wasteful' with the amount of food they had left on their plates as they were leaving.

Yet again quality food. Staff are excellent, there to help. Service is quick and environment is ideal for a lunch time meet with friends and family. Always consistent. Never any complaints. Da iawn (very good).

Went as a couple to this café on a Monday for lunch arriving at 12 noon. We were seated immediately, and ordered pots of tea, which arrived quickly. For meals we ordered Chicken curry and my wife ordered Cajun Chicken Fillet Burger.

Two of us decided to try this establishment for breakfast this morning.

Had lunch here before with my sisters a few weeks ago, could not fault it, so already had plans to take my hubby and son there for breakfast. was not disappointed the food was delicious piping hot and great service.

I don't know if this established restaurant has changed hands but it definitely didn't seem up to scratch from previous visits. Only had tea and toast which was very good, loved the chunky slices of thick toast! Was not at all impressed with the crockery, cup, saucer and teapot was very canteen type. .too casual. Also table hadn't been cleaned from the day before , lots of crumbs and there was a long strand of someone's hair by the cruet set. Will try the restaurant once more but if not improved will not recommend. Also do they really need unappropriate background music as customers like to be able to hear each other !!

I visit Ty Golchi on a regular basis. The carvery is the best I’ve had, really nice! Afternoon tea is really nice too! I have ordered off the main menu also, you get a generous portion. I would highly recommend and I will be returning. Staff are so lovely! And plenty of car parking space. I can’t fault at all. Diolch yn fawr! X

I’m a regular visitor to this restaurant and again today had lovely food. the Welsh rarebit was delicious served with salad. As was the coffee cake. My friends veggie burger looked delicious too. The service is always excellent and the food is always served hot and of a high Standard. It’s always busy so I recommend to book a table.

Really good meal-visited with wife and 2 grandkids. The 8 year old said the sausages were the best she'd had!

Had lunch herd a couple of months ago and it was superb - ham, egg and chips. Had lunch 2 weeks ago and it was dreadful - pea and ham soup and a sandwich. The bread was hard and filling not nice and the pea and ham soup tasted like a watered down can of mushy peas with a few cut up slices of boiled ham in it. I would suggest that the chef actually tasted the soup before dishing it up - it was really awful. And having read the reviews here, I see that I'm not the only one who finds some of the staff lacking in waiting-on and people skills. Which means that the manager is not doing his/her job properly. Shame because most of the time the food is actually great. But some of the staff are not cut out for their jobs.

Visit here on a regular basis because i love it. Firstly all the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The menu has good choice and is not expensive and also the portions are generous. The place is clean and tidy always and i like that the decor is quirky. The bathroom is also very clean. The choice of cakes are good and are always fresh and tasty. I would recommend the whole menu but especially the tapas and ham egg and chips they are delicious. Mandy and Ben are lovely people and do a great job running the place. Would highly recommend.

Nice change to sit in the sun eating our lunch. It is great to be served by Welsh speaking staff. Fed up of not being able to speak my own language in my own country.....shame on you (again Tripadvisor).

My family and I had a delicious roast dinner. The meat was tender, all the vegetables delicious and the gravy moreish.

A friendly, welcoming bistro serving breakfast and lunches, great menu choice and good kids menu too. Plenty of parking and easy to find, it gets very busy always a good idea to ring and reserve a table rather than stand and wait.

Quite disappointed with our lunch experience today. We opted for the carvery. The meat was nicely cooked, beef beautifully tender. The lady serving it was quite miserable, and gave the impression she didn’t want to be there. The roast potatoes could have done with several more minutes in the oven, didn’t even look like they were roasted, gravy thin and tasteless,lovely cauliflower cheese and vegetables. The service was poor, our napkins and cutlery was unceremoniously dumped on the table! Not once during the meal did anyone check the meal was satisfactory, nor were we offered more drinks. The deserts were nice. I have noticed that each time we eat here the service is extremely poor. They seem to think that customers will go there just for the food, however, that is only half the experience. Service is the other half. There are several eateries in the area that provide far superior service, and equally if not tastier food. It is not the same as it used to be, and I for one will not be frequenting Ty Golchi again until the service improves. It is not cheap, and for the prices charged I also expect quality service. Very disappointed.

Visited for a coffee and light breakfast. Lattes were warm and extremely weak, and I don’t like strong coffee, so that’s saying something. Having brought lattes , we were informed that crumpets ordered were not available so had tea cakes instead. Surely we should have been told of availability before serving drinks, which were cold by the time the tea cakes turned up.

Former favourite but not any more. Slow to greet, poor welcome, even longer to take an order. When the coffee finally arrived most was in the saucer.

Lovely meal at lunchtime I had the ham cheese and pineapple panini. Portion sizes are good and staff are lovely. Will definitely return again. Well done to everyone at Ty Golchi.

I love coming to Ty Golchi. Food is very nice, had the curry, was very tasty. And also had afternnon tea for my gran's birthday. Wow, it was so nice. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Inside is lovely, with a nice feel to the place. Will see you again soon.

Very busy, queuing for tables last Saturday. Would have given 5 stars but condensation problems on window. Very clean and good food.

Had lunch with a friend on 23rd Jan. Very busy and car park was full, but we were served in reasonable time.

Landed at 14.50 today, and found out after arriving that hot food could not be ordered after 3pm. We were relieved as we thought we’d made it in time!! Or so we thought!!! Staff rude, aloof and completely ignored us when we walked in. We sat ouselves down as we were made to feel invisible!! After 5 mins we had to get our own menu’s, at this time another couple sat down at the table next to ours!! They also got up to pick their own menu’s. We waited until15.10hrs!!! 20 mins after arriving and we still hadn’t been served!! Not even a hello, and what made matters worse was that the people that arrived after us got served before us!!! At this point enough was enough!! We got up and left!!

Went to Bangor to meet our son who is in University there and to take him out to lunch.

Went in here few weeks ago, only 3 of us. It was lunchtime, fairly busy but there were tables available. We were stood at the counter for a few minutes and completely ignored by all staff who just carried on without saying anything.

Visited on a monday. Was very busy. Had to wait a while to get a table (Understandable as we hadn't booked). We got seated onto a dirty table. Eventually the young girl came back to give it a wipe. Took the staff a long time to order our drinks and food and even then the wait for the drinks and food was a long. But when it did arrive, the food was excellent. Good size portions. Of course I would come back. Just hopefully during a quiet period.

We decided to give this place another chance by revisiting recently, having not visited for a while due to fallen standards.

Food is reasonably priced and plates are full. Staff are very friendly and a nice atmosphere within Only negative, shame customers can't park properly, taking more than one space.

Visited here recently with family and was very disappointed to see that standards have fallen. Have been coming here regularly as the food is very good, however the service let them down this time. It was awful. We waited 20 mins for a table which we didn’t mind as the food is always worth the wait. After about 20 mins we were taken to a table. We waited another good 20 mins but no one came to take our orders. I had to ask in the end. So after a solid 25 minutes our orders were finally taken. By this time I was feeling a bit fed up and regretted coming here as we originally planned to go elsewhere. The food was lovely as usual and well presented, although two items that were suppose to come with the dish was not on the plate (crisps and coleslaw). When we finished our food, I was looking forward for dessert as they have lovely cakes. However no one came to ask if the food was ok, if we wanted any more drinks or dessert. We waited a good 15 minutes after finishing our food but decided in the end to leave it like that. I would’ve said something if someone would’ve asked me but no one did, even when I was paying. Food makes up half of the experience, the other half is service. Today it was really bad. Won’t be recommending as standards have fallen, which is really sad!!

Have frequently visited this place. However on this visit one order was incorrect when it arrived and the adult portion of chips was small on the other and was returned to the kitchen as the food was not hot and just about warm.

I was here for lunch. There is a good selection on the menu. We had sausage Panini, goats cheese tart and Welsh rarebit which were all excellent and served with a large selectionSalad. And not just boring lettuce and tomatoes ! The cakes are also delicious. Very good and friendly service too. It gets very busy so reserve a table or go early. I will return soon

Me and my friend were so hungry that Thursday morning, what way to resolve this is Ty Golchi full breakfast...The place is clean and beautiful, the cafe latte is perfect and the breakfast is superb... Can’t wait to go back there again...👍😍

Visited Ty Golchi for the first time with a friend for breakfast. I've always thought it looked a little small and cramped from the outside but I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious and bright it was inside.

Popped into Ty Golchi a couple of times now and enjoyed our visits. Friendly and polite staff serving great food. Well worth visiting and in an extremely convenient location. Parking on site. Seating inside and outside in good weather. A big thank you to all the staff.

We arrived just before 3.30pm. Sadly no afternoon tea available as a large booking was having afternoon tea. We were disappointed. We had the choice of some nice looking cakes. I chose the Victoria sponge. It was dry and I couldn't eat it. My colleague chose lemon meringue cake which was fresh and reported to be delicious. Staff were brushing the whole floor, when we were eating and drinking, moving the chairs making loud sudden noises with the high ceilings. Then a smell of disinfectant. Will definitely come again as we have always been extremely happy in the past, but not at this time of the day. We were served at the table by a friendly and polite lady. Price of cake knocked off at the till and Staff apologetic as they said the cake had only come in that morning.

Visited on a Saturday morning with friends for breakfast. Friends ordered full breakfasts all with different types of eggs, ordered a large cappuccino and three pots of tea. I ordered and am very fussy with with scrambled eggs and these were cooked to perfection. Cappuccino was also delicious.

First visit. And because of Trip Advisor being such scum in regards to the use of the WELSH language, this review has to be in my second language.

Visited with my girlfriend, ordered two soups and sandwiches. Price reasonable for the amount of food served. Unfortunately the bread was slightly hard/stale and the soup cold. Additionally the salad leaves didn’t seem to be washed properly as they were gritty. Nevertheless the remainder of the salad and the dressing were very pleasant.

Very dissapointing curry. Had heard good things about it. Very dry no sauce, the chicken was poor quality full of black and chewy bits. Naan bread cold and hard.

Called for lunch in my 73rd birthday. It's always reliable and the service is good and friendly. Worth a stop on your way to Ireland or Abersoch.

Have visited many a time and had nice food and a warn atmosphere. However they have changed owner/manager, since then I have noticed a difference. The café does not have the same standard of hygiene and the toilet always smells. Also the waitresses are very casually dressed and appear sloppy

I had a feeling this place was good when the car park on a friday was full and when we got in there was a short que. We waited 5 minutes for a table and it was well worth the wait.

Have visited several times, always order the tapas to share and were not disappinted, six different dishes can be choosen, and it also comes with a warm ciabatta and a dip.

Absolutely my favourite place to go for lunch! They have the best tapas about served with the most beautiful warm toasty ciabatta! Always lovely visiting here! Very big meals and not expensive either.

Not put off by the less favourable reviews we popped in for a late breakfast and weren’t disappointed. Greeted with a smile and warm welcome. Delicious home cooked food, fresh bread not pre slices. Good coffee. Although my spoken welsh is rusty it was nice to go somewhere where they don’t assume you’re English.

Called in on Saturday morning with my brother and son purely by chance after family business in Beddgelert earlier.

Always busy which is very good. Nice menu plenty of choice. Bit crammed when you have two little ones, we kept banging in to the table next to us.

Well I visited this place to eat with my partner after having a look through trip advisor for our recent visit to stay in the area.

First time here had the Ham egg & chips and my wife had the Caesar salad both were huge, nicely presented and tasty will go again soon

I visited on the 12th of June with my daughter she is 8months old it was 12pm. The staff were very friendly and great with my little girl. I ordered the tapas for 1 and a cappuccino. Coffee arrived swiftly followed by my tapas did get 1 item wrong but this was rectified immediately. Lovely fresh produce it was delicious and plenty of it.

Visited Ty Golchi on a Thursday lunch time. It's always comforting when you see a packed restaurant, as you know it must be good to attract so many customers.

I’m a regular at Ty golchi, as are most of us that were there today. However today was a special occasion, a friends 50th birthday. I asked when booking the table if I could bring balloons which they were more than happy for me to do so. I forgot to mention that I also wanted to bring a birthday cake and wanted them to keep it in the kitchen and bring it out for us.

the food and service cannot be improved, its such a pleasure to visit a restaurant and receive the same service and food every time. My wife and i visit at least once a week, as there is nowhere to match their restaurant.

We went to this establishment solely for the outdoor seating area. Upon arrival we asked could we sit outside, which we were told no, due to no tables being available.

Had a lovely lunch. Great service, reasonable price and fantastic food. It's clean and friendly. It's nice to know the staff are all Welsh. Would definitely recommend it to others.
