Staying just down the road this was perfect for us, being within walking distance. The website directed us to a booking page where we put our contact details and date and time required. When we hadn't heard anything the day before our booking we called and had a recorded message stating they were only open Saturday and Sundays, which wasn't what the website said. Extremely disappointed as the menu looked great. You need to update your website please!

A very welcome break from the lock down. Two day get away. Great welcome and friendly service. Good humoured care by Mark and Nerys, who could not have been more helpful. Ate two evening meals. Fillet steak V good. Great chips...don't normally go for them but these were light and crispy, as they should be but which you rarely get. Lighter second meal with starters, Caesar salad and extras, fish cakes light and tasty. Good house wine. Rooms seemed large and airy. Scrupulously clean. Current distancing rules reduced room care, but any needs could be ordered eg. more towels, toiletries, coffee and tea. Reasonable prices for rooms. Meal prices same as surrounding pub grub and restaurants. Bar prices good. We will return.

Whilst on holiday nearby, we recently ate here twice and were delighted with both meals. The first was Sunday lunch. The very smart restaurant was quiet, with only 2 other couples eating, but it was warm and there was a pleasant ambience. My starter listed as “Fish cakes” was in fact only 1 fish cake so a bit meagre. Just as well as the main courses were huge: a generous amount of meat and a mass of different vegetables, all nicely cooked and very hot, and a huge pile of potatoes. I had turkey and my wife had beef and both were excellent. We ate almost everything as it was so good but then sadly couldn’t manage desserts! The second meal was dinner, as it turned out, on the last night before the national order for restaurants and pubs to close, so we were lucky. I had checked with the manager the day before that they would be open. We were the only diners and were served in the bar. Again the food was excellent and the portions generous. This time I did manage to eat a delicious dessert, though I certainly didn’t need it! The service on both occasions was efficient, friendly and pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed both visits and would definitely recommend the establishment.

My wife won an evening meal and a night's B&B at Ty Glyn in a newspaper competition. As we only live 15 minutes drive away the proprietors kindly let us swap this for a Sunday Lunch with drinks. The menu was not huge, but there were plenty of very appealing dishes. For once we both chose exactly the same. For starters we had classic prawn cocktail, which had a base of the freshest salad and tastiest cherry tomatoes ever. Mains was a generous serving of sea bass with vast amounts and variety of vegetables. Finally we had sticky toffee pudding. Basically everything was fairly simple in style, but the ingredients were top class and cooked to absolute perfection. All in all a top class meal with efficient friendly service. We will be back.

Ty Glyn is a little confusing - it sells itself as a Steakhouse with 10 Bedrooms, a wedding venue and it was classed as a Hotel on 'Buy a Gift.com' where a relative of ours purchased this for us. We're not entirely sure what it's supposed to be and could do with a true identity. The Staff are all brilliant, friendly and efficient (we did feel for the poor lady who has to single handedly deal with the breakfasts and checkout at the same time - she's flitting between the two duties and doesn't have enough time to clear the tables. There needs to be another person doing the breakfast duties alongside her. She was most apologetic and somewhat embarrassed that we had to sit surrounded by uncleared tables. The standard and quality of food is absolutely excellent and can't be faulted. The chef is doing an amazing job and should be commended. The whole place is clean and tidy throughout and this can't be faulted either. The bedrooms are really disappointing. The Falcondale Hotel is the sister hotel to Ty Glyn and there couldn't be a vaster contrast. It is evident that when the building was converted to create the bedrooms, no sound proofing was used at all within the stud walls and conversations/intimate moments/TV's etc can be heard from neighbouring rooms. The furniture is basic, broken and shabby and the extremely dated carpet gives a poor 1st impression. The floorboards creek in the bedroom and bathrooms so clearly the floorboards need attention. The decor is clean and fresh but the rooms really need an update, even if they can only afford to do them one by one. The minor issues in our room were numerous and nothing would be too costly or difficult to sort. The rooms must have been running at between 50% and 60% occupancy during our stay so clearly they have a market for 'hotel' guests who deserve a little better and perhaps increased prices would not offend if the hotel offer is improved. The grounds are immaculate and together with a lovely wedding reception suite and a talented chef, efforts are concentrated in this direction rather than the hotel element which is a total shame and a waste. I would have thought that wedding parties would want to stay at this venue and it would benefit from having a bridal suite. Perhaps the owners should come down from The Falcondale and stay for a couple of nights in the rooms to test out the rooms for themselves!

Amazing Food. Pleasant staff. First time visit for Sunday Lunch. We ordered the pâté Followed by the beef. Followed by sweets. (Some of the best sweets we have ever had) Cannot fault but only praise and will certainly be going again. Highly Recommended.

Cannot recommend this place enough! Party of 17 of us booked for family Sunday lunch. They accomadated us easily the service and food was second to none. With 3 different meats and fish or veggie to choose from everyone was happy. The presentation of the 3 courses were beautiful. Everyone left happy with full bellies of delicious food at a reasonable price.

This was a referal as good Portuguese food. Food not good Owner friendly I would not class this as Portuguese I spoke to him regarding the menu and remarked that we love the food in the Ty Madeira Cardiff he said he knew the owner but the food was nothing like the restaurants we have been to.
