Joe was our server & was absolutely amazing, really quick with coming over to ask what we were ordering and super accommodating to all of us! Food was perfect (a little spicy but that's just my spice tolerance) and came out quite quickly considering we ordered quite a bit as a table. Atmosphere fits the carribean theme to a T and overall couldn't be happier with our visit 🩷

Regulars however experienced micro racism from the manager. We came for drinks and snacks - ordered The “flat bread” but was brought A grilled wrap . When spoke to manager about the wrap “ flatbread “ he was very dismissive and it was obvious he didn’t have the time to talk. When I said this isn’t exactly Caribbean food is it ? He replied with we don’t sell Caribbean food we don’t do cows foot! The lack of education or even knowledge of Caribbean cuisines ,it’s history and or how the culture inspired turtle bay itself is clearly non existent. Just look around at the decor, the art and taste the rum punch and staple dishes like Saltfish mutton jerk ect . Turtle bay has clearly taken a lot of inspiration from the Caribbean culture. This manager didn’t care or even had no clue on how bad that statement actually was. He had no idea how disrespectful he was being . I made it very clear that he was stereotyping Caribbean people, the cuisine and I was very clear that as A Caribbean woman scraps like cows foot are NOT all we eat if at all. I’m actually concerned that this man is running this place as there is A large turnover of white customers and if he is throwing micro racist remarks to me then what is he saying to others? effectively spreading stereotypes. I did complain to turtle bay direct and was refunded my bill. I was told that “ the head of turtle bay sends his apologies” Which was an absolute lie. Looking online it’s easy to see this stereotypical behaviour is A reoccurring issue throughout the company. Of course unsurprisingly turtle bay isn’t run by anyone Caribbean. Which may explain The lack of respect for the culture ? Turtle Bay has launched A few questionable things such as “ Rasta- fy” me campaign. They offered A software that “blackened the skin of customers”and adding dreadlocks - in an attempt to look like A Rasta. Extremely racist not appropriate and disrespectful to the Rastafarian religion. This was thankfully pulled after some time after many complaints. How can they get it so wrong ? Who’s educating the staff ? My point is that they don’t try to understand or respect the culture . Just like the food and the inspiration anything eles is disregarded. Very disappointed

Though it is a large chain restaurant I have to admit Turtle Bay Cardiff actually provides really good quality food when it comes to his Caribbean menu. Especially with their presentation, and they add some character with the presentation and utensils: though it sometimes seems like culture misappropriation, they have made a good effort.

Food and cocktails are always gorgeous, but the service has gone downhill. Waited at our table for service for nearly 30 minutes before negotiating with the bar staff to just serve us at the bar and then get dragged off our table 5 minutes before our hour and a half was up to make room for the next customers, we weren't even allowed to finish our drinks. This is the second consecutive time this has happened, and it's extremely disappointing, especially as we booked this for my birthday as it used to be my favourite place to visit

Lovely visit, friendly staff from the bar to the table service, all happy to help (refreshing) and great all round experience. Food was great apart from the lamb and pork belly which were slightly overcooked but great flavour. Will be back!

Very good normal prices big portions, very nice decorations. 😁 Edit after 6 years. Unfortunately after trying many branches around the UK, I have returned to this one. Food was very average, portions very small, cocktails didn't have alcohol. I am not sure if it's the branch's issue or the chain's. Still better than many of the other options but...

My first time at Turtle Bay, Cardiff and it did not disappoint! Our server Alice was very friendly and attentive. I had the curry goat which was amazing if you like medium hot curries. I'll definitely go again and work my way through the menu. 😁 loved the music too (even if it was a bit loud)
