Turan Bar & Indian Tapas Restaurant in Welwyn Hatfield

Awesome food as always, curries are made with proper Indian spices, which are not necessarily hot but great tasting. My kids just loved Paneer Butter Masala from this place.

Most of the food was tasty and good quality, even if on the expensive side. However, we were disappointed with the nan breads. They were soggy and tasted like they had been steamed. 5 minutes in a hot oven made all the difference.

Well a curious night as on arriving having booked a table for 2 way in advance, there was a lack of chairs 😳 The restaurant had overbooked as it was heaving. Finally received chair we did eat very well, the food was delicious 😋 Service ok as it was far too full and staffed were stressed. But very kind and thoughtful to ring and let us know my husbands spectacles behind 🤗

Popped in during this week. Strange set up, there didn’t seem to be normal sized/priced starters? Sauces with popadoms although complimentary, very poor/cheoap (would rather pay a bit for something/standard reasonable). Never ate most of meal, didn’t seem right and I trusted my instincts. Ate mainly the main and I suffered all the following day. Hope this helps someone 👍

Absolute shame! We paid £3.50 per naan and this is what we got. Burnt! Do not bother with this restaurant! Very low standard of food and prices are atrocious!

Had a kashmere aloo lunch combination there.. absolutely huge portions, could have easily split it between two people and I have a big appetite! The salty lassi and lollipop chicken was also good. The only slight criticism was it was quite oily.. but overall I definitely would return

We visited tonight with family of 13 , as a special get together as we had family over from Australia. We spent £340 , and enjoyed the food . But as for customer service that was the one star rating . As we’ve spent lot of money in different restaurants across the world , our experience is usually a free complimentary shot after the meal . One of our party asked if you did this after we paid our £340 & instead of saying no we don’t , they bought over the shots and then as we left , stopped us to pay £50 for the shots . Absolutely disgraceful and watched our party look for a set of our car keys for half an hr & the man walked out the office with our car keys , watched us look for them for all that time , knowing what we were looking for as we told them . They knocked off a tenner & took £40 for the shots , after spending £340 , I have never experienced no complimentary shot and charging a disgusting amount of money for them & keeping our car keys . At no point will we ever go back or recommend to anyone . Not exactly a professional & friendly welcome

My mother's birthday meant our 4th visit to this wonderful restaurant. We were served by Bhavan (spelling?) who was fantastic. As usual amazing food and generous portions. Oh and the Carribbean Bliss cocktail was delicious.

Have tried various takeaways in Hatfield and St Albans and this one takes the prize. While the other ones reduce portion sizes and increase prices this one is generous and well priced. The food quality is excellent and well spiced, slightly on the hotter side. Delivery has always been on time. Beware the poppadoms at £1.50 are literally for 1, no complimentary extra ones and a small pot of mint sauce in Arsenal away kit green with a toothpaste freshness, however they are excellent quality.

Outstanding food - can’t recommend them enough.

So, we went around half past 9 for the dinner and one of the staffs while taking our order told us that the kitchen is about to close (although closing time was 10:30). So, we ordered one more naan bread in that pressure which got wasted after that. Not only this, he started cleaning when we were already having our dinner which is not hygienic at all.

The food is just ok not really great, very mild and not authentic Indian

Flavour of curries still good, but I'm not sure what has happened to the quality of the meat. I've been ordering from here for a while, and the lamb in the curries used to be really soft and tender. Now every time I order, the lamb is really not nice at all, it's chewy, fatty, and very sinewy to the point where there are big chunks you can't eat. This time there was also a huge bone in one of the pieces of chicken in the other curry that I bit into without realising. Very off-putting.

Service was wonderful. Every waiter was polite and greeted us with a smile. The portions were plentiful and the food tasted freshly prepared. Excellent service overall

We have been here 3 times now. It has become my mother's favourite restaurant so it's well worth the 100 mile round trip to see her enjoy her food so much. As always the food is excellent. Tasty, fresh and good sized portions as well as reasonable prices. Wonderful.

Food dry and lacking flavour and lamb was large lumps and tastless.

Although the food was good, For the price I would have expected a lot more… the veg curry was just a bag of frozen veg in a curry sauce, the Korai was sooo oily and leaked all over the bag and the poppadoms tasted quite stale..

Awesome Indian cuisine. We had ordered garlic naan, butter chicken and veg biryani.. we were not expecting Indian taste.. But out of the blues it taste the same. We use to eat in India. This is a must visit place if you are looking for Indian cuisine in Hatfield.

If you’re looking for Perfect Indian cuisine. Then this is the must visit place for u.. we had ordered Garlic naan, Butter chicken and Veg Biryani and wasn’t expecting the food to taste like India. But out of the blue it tasted exactly the same we use to have in India.

Lovely food but different from what I remember it to be like, change of chef?? Chicken Tikka was very tasty. Delivery was early, which was brilliant but it would have been good to know when it was on its way rather than be alerted well after we'd finished eating.

Our first visit a couple of months ago resulted in another 100 mile round trip to sample these culinary delights again! This time I had my fiancée with me also, so it was her first time. All of us agreed that the food is fantastic, fresh and supremely delicious. The best we have had.

Amazing food - my favourites are chettinadu curry and garlic naan. Excellent service by Pavan and very hygienic as well. Hardly any crowd in the afternoons.

Took a chance to go to Bar Turan after a golf game near by. We were not disappointed! The food was great. The chef even make an egg curry off the menu. Service provided by Ann was excellent.

Absolutely divine food. One of the best Indian meals I have ever had (and, being Indian, I've had hundreds!). Never would have dreamt that Hatfield would have Indian food better than anything in Southall. Amazing experience.

A trip to the Galleria with my mother on Mothers Day we were 50 miles away from home and I asked what she fancied for lunch. "Indian" she said (no real surprise there then!) I called up the TripAdvisor app and there was an Indian restaurant 300m away! Having been shopping and quite tired I didn't want to have to drive anywhere so we made the trip by foot. I really was not expecting much, we were in Hatfield - hardly the curry Mecca of England.... How wrong I was. We ordered the chilli and garlic Mogo for starters, along with lamb samosas and seekh kebabs. These 3 starters were OUTSTANDING and the portions generous. Mogo was delicious and crispy, samosas again lovely, fresh and crisp. The seekh kebabs were amazing, beautifully cooked and you could taste the spices (ginger, etc.) I am happy to report the mains did not disappoint either. My mum's Chicken Biryani she said was the best she's had. I opted for a Nepalese dish - Chicken Baglungi. Sometimes when trying something new there is a risk it won't be to your liking but it's also the only way to expand your taste horizons. It was gorgeous, and so was the chilli garlic naan. An outstanding meal by all counts, including the price - very reasonable for this absolute top notch dining experience. It may be a 100 mile round trip but I think we'll be back!!

For some reason could see change in the taste and quality of food in recent times

Pleasant restaurant - very quiet on a Tuesday lunchtime, but very good service and very tasty food - we had the fixed lunchtime menu.

I have been coming here on and off for years and for good reason. The service is good, with attentive staff. The food is fantastic, my favourites are the chilli chicken and chilli Mogo. My partner is Indian and even she will say the food was very good. She loves to bring some home when we go! It's only a small restaurant and it can be very busy and with that, very loud! Not something that bothers me but if you are noise sensitive and plan on going at 9pm on a weekend...you have been warned haha. However I still recommend them on any day and at any time.

Chicken lollipop, bombay potato, king prawn briyani and peshwari naan are amazing. My go to curry place. Highly recommended.

I ordered a takeaway online but messed up on the time slot, phoned the restaurant and they couldn’t have been more helpful, amending the delivery time straight away, even phoning me back when my phone cut out. The food was excellent, great flavours and generous portions.

The food was very late. The phone number for the restaurant went straight to a holding music and nobody came to the phone and we ordered Pillau rice and they delivered plain rice. also we ordered 3 popadoms and only a tiny mango chutney not even enough for one arrived. It should come with enough chopped onions mint yoghurt sauce and mango chutney for 3. Not good enough!!

I ordered lamb korma and it taste like dessert (taste like we are eating sugar with lamb) and with hair init. When we called restaurant to inform about the taste that lady was rude and said this is how we serve and she hung-up instead of trying to understand. Very bad service, waste of money and worst taste of korma 🤮 i ever had. Please maintain hygiene and teach your chef to cook indian food as you label yourself as an indian restaurant. Please do not order food.

Picked the resto following a hunch and made a reservation. Took a London friend there, his first time in Hatfield. The staff was super friendly. The portions are huge. The leftovers made for lunch in the office the following day. Lovely flavours, and bear in mind I'm difficult (vegan-abstinent-sugar free).

Visited this restaurant today . We ordered Tawa fish and Momos …. It really went well😋😋 Biriyani is a north Indian taste and the Nan bread was excellent which is fresh made instantly was very yummy 🫶🏻. Team is working hard as they can . Done well f and b team .

Ordered a Takeaway last night, quite disappointed with the taste of the food. Very rushed effort unlike other times. Chilli Paneer was too sour and mixed veg curry was just overcooked in the same sauce as Paneer curry. We had to discard most of it.

Tasty curries with a decent amount of chilli

We visited this restaurant with family. There are enough pay car parking close by. Very good bar, seating area and WC. Its fully air conditioned. Foods are amazingly tasty and varieties too. They mainly serve Indian and Nepali cuisine and varieties of drinks. Do not miss MOMO (dumplings) and any menus with Baglung.

usually very good, this time half the sauce was missing potatoes tasted burnt, and the madras wasn’t spicy like it usually is hopefully it’s just a one off/busy night

Visited many Indian restaurants around the UK and was massively impressed by the food. We ordered Chicken Lollipop which was extremely tasty. We also ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Chop curry with Garlic & Cheese naan and Garlic & Chilli naan. The curries were exceptionally tasty. CTM is traditionally sweet but we asked for it to include fresh chillies to make it hot, and it was a great tasting CTM but the main attraction of the night was the Lamb Chop Curry. Exceptional flavours, great meat which ripped off the bone splendidly and cooked to perfection. The service was great too! My partner and I visit Hatfield a lot and we will be visiting again when we are back. The score does not do the restaurant justice. Very impressed with the food!

Nice spacious restaurant bar with good quality food. Sports TV,s on the wall. The dishes were mostly very rich and creamy (even the Saag Aloo) which may be the Nepalese influence. Good vegetarian and fish options. Parking is effectively free after 5.30pm.

We stayed at the local Travelodge and this was over the road. From the outside it looked very nice but inside is disappointing. The seating is not the cozy Indian style we are used to and felt cold and exposed. There was a huge TV with Top of the Pops from 1994 with subtitles, very distracting. Waiter was friendly and helpful but menu did not indicate strength of dishes so we unknowingly ordered one that was too hot. Ask if you visit so as to not get caught out. Food was average for the price but passable. Restaurant was completely empty by the time we had finished at 9.15pm. Would not return and will check out other places when we come to Hatfield again.
