Turan Bar & Indian Tapas Restaurant in Welwyn Hatfield

Have tried various takeaways in Hatfield and St Albans and this one takes the prize. While the other ones reduce portion sizes and increase prices this one is generous and well priced. The food quality is excellent and well spiced, slightly on the hotter side. Delivery has always been on time. Beware the poppadoms at £1.50 are literally for 1, no complimentary extra ones and a small pot of mint sauce in Arsenal away kit green with a toothpaste freshness, however they are excellent quality.

Fabulous venue, food, service - in fact I can't fault it. The food is out of this world. You can order a home delivery as well.

So, we went around half past 9 for the dinner and one of the staffs while taking our order told us that the kitchen is about to close (although closing time was 10:30). So, we ordered one more naan bread in that pressure which got wasted after that. Not only this, he started cleaning when we were already having our dinner which is not hygienic at all.

We have been here 3 times now. It has become my mother's favourite restaurant so it's well worth the 100 mile round trip to see her enjoy her food so much. As always the food is excellent. Tasty, fresh and good sized portions as well as reasonable prices. Wonderful.

Our first visit a couple of months ago resulted in another 100 mile round trip to sample these culinary delights again! This time I had my fiancée with me also, so it was her first time. All of us agreed that the food is fantastic, fresh and supremely delicious. The best we have had.

Amazing food - my favourites are chettinadu curry and garlic naan. Excellent service by Pavan and very hygienic as well. Hardly any crowd in the afternoons.

Took a chance to go to Bar Turan after a golf game near by. We were not disappointed! The food was great. The chef even make an egg curry off the menu. Service provided by Ann was excellent.

Absolutely divine food. One of the best Indian meals I have ever had (and, being Indian, I've had hundreds!). Never would have dreamt that Hatfield would have Indian food better than anything in Southall. Amazing experience.

A trip to the Galleria with my mother on Mothers Day we were 50 miles away from home and I asked what she fancied for lunch. "Indian" she said (no real surprise there then!) I called up the TripAdvisor app and there was an Indian restaurant 300m away! Having been shopping and quite tired I didn't want to have to drive anywhere so we made the trip by foot. I really was not expecting much, we were in Hatfield - hardly the curry Mecca of England.... How wrong I was. We ordered the chilli and garlic Mogo for starters, along with lamb samosas and seekh kebabs. These 3 starters were OUTSTANDING and the portions generous. Mogo was delicious and crispy, samosas again lovely, fresh and crisp. The seekh kebabs were amazing, beautifully cooked and you could taste the spices (ginger, etc.) I am happy to report the mains did not disappoint either. My mum's Chicken Biryani she said was the best she's had. I opted for a Nepalese dish - Chicken Baglungi. Sometimes when trying something new there is a risk it won't be to your liking but it's also the only way to expand your taste horizons. It was gorgeous, and so was the chilli garlic naan. An outstanding meal by all counts, including the price - very reasonable for this absolute top notch dining experience. It may be a 100 mile round trip but I think we'll be back!!

Pleasant restaurant - very quiet on a Tuesday lunchtime, but very good service and very tasty food - we had the fixed lunchtime menu.

I have been coming here on and off for years and for good reason. The service is good, with attentive staff. The food is fantastic, my favourites are the chilli chicken and chilli Mogo. My partner is Indian and even she will say the food was very good. She loves to bring some home when we go! It's only a small restaurant and it can be very busy and with that, very loud! Not something that bothers me but if you are noise sensitive and plan on going at 9pm on a weekend...you have been warned haha. However I still recommend them on any day and at any time.

Chicken lollipop, bombay potato, king prawn briyani and peshwari naan are amazing. My go to curry place. Highly recommended.

I ordered a takeaway online but messed up on the time slot, phoned the restaurant and they couldn’t have been more helpful, amending the delivery time straight away, even phoning me back when my phone cut out. The food was excellent, great flavours and generous portions.

I ordered lamb korma and it taste like dessert (taste like we are eating sugar with lamb) and with hair init. When we called restaurant to inform about the taste that lady was rude and said this is how we serve and she hung-up instead of trying to understand. Very bad service, waste of money and worst taste of korma 🤮 i ever had. Please maintain hygiene and teach your chef to cook indian food as you label yourself as an indian restaurant. Please do not order food.

Picked the resto following a hunch and made a reservation. Took a London friend there, his first time in Hatfield. The staff was super friendly. The portions are huge. The leftovers made for lunch in the office the following day. Lovely flavours, and bear in mind I'm difficult (vegan-abstinent-sugar free).

Visited this restaurant today . We ordered Tawa fish and Momos …. It really went well😋😋 Biriyani is a north Indian taste and the Nan bread was excellent which is fresh made instantly was very yummy 🫶🏻. Team is working hard as they can . Done well f and b team .

The best curry in town. Best Manchurian I have ever had. Food is served very quickly and it's very very delicious.

Ordered a Takeaway last night, quite disappointed with the taste of the food. Very rushed effort unlike other times. Chilli Paneer was too sour and mixed veg curry was just overcooked in the same sauce as Paneer curry. We had to discard most of it.

We visited this restaurant with family. There are enough pay car parking close by. Very good bar, seating area and WC. Its fully air conditioned. Foods are amazingly tasty and varieties too. They mainly serve Indian and Nepali cuisine and varieties of drinks. Do not miss MOMO (dumplings) and any menus with Baglung.

Visited many Indian restaurants around the UK and was massively impressed by the food. We ordered Chicken Lollipop which was extremely tasty. We also ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Chop curry with Garlic & Cheese naan and Garlic & Chilli naan. The curries were exceptionally tasty. CTM is traditionally sweet but we asked for it to include fresh chillies to make it hot, and it was a great tasting CTM but the main attraction of the night was the Lamb Chop Curry. Exceptional flavours, great meat which ripped off the bone splendidly and cooked to perfection. The service was great too! My partner and I visit Hatfield a lot and we will be visiting again when we are back. The score does not do the restaurant justice. Very impressed with the food!

Nice spacious restaurant bar with good quality food. Sports TV,s on the wall. The dishes were mostly very rich and creamy (even the Saag Aloo) which may be the Nepalese influence. Good vegetarian and fish options. Parking is effectively free after 5.30pm.

I went there along with my friend today and the customer service is extremely poor. You have to call them for every little thing. All I can say is extremely bad customer service

We stayed at the local Travelodge and this was over the road. From the outside it looked very nice but inside is disappointing. The seating is not the cozy Indian style we are used to and felt cold and exposed. There was a huge TV with Top of the Pops from 1994 with subtitles, very distracting. Waiter was friendly and helpful but menu did not indicate strength of dishes so we unknowingly ordered one that was too hot. Ask if you visit so as to not get caught out. Food was average for the price but passable. Restaurant was completely empty by the time we had finished at 9.15pm. Would not return and will check out other places when we come to Hatfield again.

We can get very authentic and real tasty Indian vegetarian and non vegetarian food. Service is very good. Personnel here can speak Hindi.

yet again the food was excellent, but the timings are way out. So we waited 30 mins for starters to arrive, we were warned about that and it was ok with. But we were not warned about the additional 45 mins wait for mains. This was way to long, so we paid up for starters and left. This is such a shame as the food is great. But they get overwhelmed with takeaway and delivery orders, customers suffer. This isn't the first time this has happened- we were on the backend of a 2 hour wait for a delivery a few months ago. They really need put measures in place to stop this happening again. I suspect they wont as it is easy for them to take orders, and then cancel when we run out of time. But that is just going to put us off in the future

I have been coming here for years, so I'm a regular, the owner and staff are always delightful! Mine and my mums favourite restaurant by far, in-fact we don't go anywhere else to get Indian food. It's a few towns away from us but worth the journey to go and collect the food! Keep up the good work!

I normally find the food OK here but I just had vegetable biryani delivered and there was a plum seed in it, which I accidentally bit into. I looked around and tasted the biryani further, there was nothing sweet in it at all. So how did this get in here I cannot imagine. I called the restaurant to enquirer the ingredients of the dish and asked about the plum seed, to which they said it was nutmeg!! I think most people would know the difference between a nutmeg and a plum seed!!! Was the chef eating a plum and threw the seed in the dish instead of the bin?! Restaurant was also rude dealing with the complaint as I heard some mans laughter in the back. Disgusting. Revolting. Nasty service!

One of the best Indian restaurant i ever visited.

I believe I have been to every 'Indian' restaurant in the area. This is by far the best. There is a reason the chefs are visible when they cook. They are excellent. Everything about the food is superb. I now live near Cambridge and still make the effort to visit

I was there for dine in. The food tasted bland and felt like the biryani was just warmed up. Didn't feel the taste as it was described in the menu. And the service was not good at all. No one really cared.

My favourite. To match the quality of their non-veg platter you have to go somewhere like London. Best draft Cobra.

On Sunday 5th September I was walking past the travelodge in Hatfield. A pock faced Asian female in her 20s was stuffing her face with a burger or kebab. She willfully dropped her food litter everywhere. Disgraceful. She then entered Turan by crouching down the half pulled down steel shutter and entered the eaterie. It is clear she worked there. Time to call this litter bug and her employers out! Respect your environment. The food must be horrible there if she chose to eat something else!

Hi I am a regular at here. I think the food is great but £7 for starter and not a full portion will reduce your repeat sales. Also 45 minute wait for food . On busy days especially Friday get extra staff to support. Owner has never once greeted me .

We ordered delivery from here through just eat. The food was enjoyable and had good flavour. The only downside was the little amount of sauce you receive with the popadoms and delivery took over an hour and a half to arrive which was much later than their estimated time of arrival.

Not going to rate atmosphere due to covid but the interior is nice and was made to feel very welcome. The staff were really friendly and very helpful with any questions we had. There is a great selection of food which can be cooked to your heat specifications. Food didn't take long but also wasn't too quick. Everything we had was tasty and freshly cooked. The mogos are actually out of this world! Highly recommended!Curries were really nice,

I have been coming to Bar Turan since 2009. The six of my family had a scrumptious meal. We were served very quick with no delays. We all had different food choices for main & dessert. We shared each other's food as family do and can testament to the high quality. The waitresses are exceptional and I bet the owner will be proud of their hard work. We highly recommend this restaurant and wished we lived in Hatfield. The meal for 6 was £101 and we all had two or more dishes.

What an extraordinary kitchen this place posesses...the aromas blew me away...good portion sizes...excellent service and a covid-safe space to eat in...not expensive and family friendly too...probably the best Indian food I have ever had...

We visited Turan last Wednesday and have not been for months due to being worried about covid.This is by far the best Indian restaurant in the area, we were made to feel very comfortable and well looked after it’s great to see the original owners with a great team in front of them serving and looking after us.The food is excellent value and what ever you order always tastes fantastic it well presented and the portion sizes are greatI also get takeaways from Turan and we are always very happy thanks for another great meal and it was great to see you all againWell done everyone in Turan and I cannot recommend this restaurant enough if you are looking for a fantastic meal don’t hesitate get down to Turan Just to add it was mid week and totally fully booked that tells you how good it is and all staff are following strict covid procedures and the restaurant was very clean so no issues at all.Cannot believe previous comments giving a poor report they don’t deserve that they work so hard to make every customer happySee you all soon Regards Mark

Ordered food from here the cheese naan had little or no cheese at £3.75 each at least give money's worth. Not happy going to stick to ROTI HOUSE good honest food.

Very unprofessional staff tried to book a table no answer from restaurant, called and phone was busy all day till closing. Went in directly there but they refused to serve saying no tables are available. Atleast they should have checked in there system if any table is available. First of all no one was there to attend and we had to wait 10 mins at the door standing.

I’ve been a loyal customer at Bar Turan’s for years and went to the restaurant last night for dinner and our drinks order was taken/served promptly. Then waited for 45 minutes, our waiter was nowhere to be seen and all other waiters seemed too busy to attend to us (even when we were noticeably requesting to be attended to from our corner). We were still understanding but then a couple came in and sat next to our table and their drinks and food order was taken straightaway. That’s when I had to go up to the bar to ask and as expected they completely forgot about us. They apologised and took our order at the bar and then mistakenly served our starters to the table next to us! That meant the food had to be prepared again and we waited another 15 minutes. Then a waiter comes to us and asks us if we are ready for our mains?! We finally received our starters, to be fair which were delicious as usual. Once finished we requested if we could have the mains now as they promised us it will be ready as soon as we are done with our starters (I would expect it after such shambles). Guess what, waited another 15 minutes and no main course. It was enough and we made the payment at the bar and left. The food here is delicious and we understand it’s a difficult time for all businesses but this is an absolute joke of treating your regular customers. Waste of an evening, won’t be returning again.
