Great food, friendly staff, and good service. Definitely deserves 5 stars for everything.

Unfortunately, our regular Indian takeaway is closed on a Tuesday so we ordered our food from here instead . We ordered Chicken Shashlik x 2, Cauliflower Bhaji, and Naan bread. Firstly, we are within walking distance of the restaurant and could have walked to collect, but both being at work decided to have delivery instead . Given the distance all of the food was lukewarm at best and needed to be microwaved and the Naan bread was cold. The least of its issues. So to the cost and equality. Let’s start with the Naan! This was, and I’m being honest here, the smallest Naan bread I have ever had in my whole life. The reason we only ordered one is that usually, from everywhere else, they are too big and enough to share. This one was thin, cold, and so small it was barely bigger than the small Cauliflower Bhaji takeout tray. Hopefully I can post photos with this review for comparison. So on to the Cauliflower Bhaji! Where to start? Small.Cold.Watery.Flavourless! The cauliflower was either overcooked, to within an inch of its life, or was made from leftovers from the day before, or possibly even the day before that. Very small portion size and as stated above, cold, watery and flavourless. Chicken Shashlik.The price for this was either £9.15 or £9.95, the menu doesn’t make it clear and I thought I heard the latter on the phone. Either way a rip off! Each tray contained 7 “small’ pieces of chicken in each, but lots of onion, one tomato and one piece of green pepper, not in both portions, to bulk it out to look more! Woohoo!! This was easily the worst Chicken Shashlik we have ever had for portion size, and I was so disappointed when I opened the boxes that I rang the restaurant to complain. To be honest they couldn’t care less. Hence this review, as I promised them. The Shashlik, as stated before, was lukewarm and needed to be reheated. And considering it comes served with mint sauce and salad dressing when ordered as a single portion, you would expect to get two of each when ordering two portions, however ,this was not the case and we only got one mint sauce and one salad bag. This may only be a small thing but the principle of getting what you order, and expect to be delivered, is the issue here. And also value for money. Which at £27 for the items ordered, this isn’t! I’m pretty sure that I don’t need to add a summary here as this can be gleaned from my comments. But, for those that need any clarity, I wouldn’t recommend eating here, in or out, and definitely wouldn’t recommend ordering a takeaway from them. There are plenty of other Indian restaurants in Welwyn Garden City, that put quality of food, value for money and customer service ahead of this one, so I would search those out, save your money and avoid the disappointment of this one.

Thanks to the guys at the Raj for a wonderful meal after a great recommendation, the Chicken Tikka Balti Dhansak was *gorgeous*... Trust Houssain, he's lovely. The bhajis were crispy, succulent and so tasty. Rice was packed full of veggies, yum. And obviously, a few days later when we re-heated, it was *even* better. So good to be able to rely on looking forward to an amazing meal. We thank you so much. XXX Dave and Pam

I do not like writing bad reviews so will be as objective as possible. The food came on time and we were giving a discount code so off to a good start. The naans were cold but food good temperature. Meat samosas didn’t have much filling or taste. Could have been anything or nothing inside them. Lamb bhuna was very oily and onion heavy with the oil over powering any real taste. Chicken tikka was flavourless and dry with only a hint of coconut. Honestly will not be ordering again.

I've been to some Indian restaurants in my time but this is by far the best my wife and I have been to yesterday, the food, service and atmosphere absolutely perfect, I recommend this restaurant to anybody

My goto local Curry house, this place has lots of charm, authenticity and friendliness whilst isn’t contrived or fake. If you do visit, get the Shahi Bahar dish, it’s amazing!

Absolutely the best Indian restaurant in Hertfordshire, cannot wait to go back. The staff are very warm and friendly, and the food is simply unreal! Prices are also very reasonable given the amazing quality.

Superb food as always and good service

The Lamb Takatan and Onion Bajis delivered this evening were simply delicious. The lamb was tender and the Takatan curry sauce flavoursome. After a long day this meal was something else to come home to. Hot and delivered by Just Eat in a timely fashion. Thank you.

Just had a lovely meal at the Raj of india, and have to say it was one of the best Currys I've have , well done to the chef who prepared our meal and to all the staff who are very helpful and polite , I would recommend the chicken capiciler really nice.

Ordered at 7 told to pick up at 8:30 was still waiting outside until 9:30 , food was cold when I got home only live round corner . This was my go-to Indian but now I will look else where .

What a shame that I have to write this review. We've been loyal customers for many years, but the Raj has gone down hill. Two hours and ten minutes for delivery is a joke. The chap on the phone was rude, no apology and just said it would come 'soon'. When asking where our order was after saying it would come in 1hr:30 minutes. Loyalty means nothing, now days. Raj Of India, don't put orders/profit over your customers. As loyal customers will go elsewhere. From very unhappy/very loyal, local customers. Don't forget your roots.

Haven't used this place for around 6 years due to previous poor service but decided to give them another go yesterday.I ordered through Uber eats and received a notification to say it would be between 25-45 minutes. As it was a Friday night and I knew it would be busy I did not chase them until approx 90 min after placing the order, I was told they were busy but it was on its way, one of their drivers had the order and he would be another 5-10 minutes. Another 30 min later I called back again to complain, the guy was arguing with me as though it was somehow unfair of me to be putting them under pressure, food eventually turned up over 2 hours after ordering.On a positive note, the food was good once I'd reheated it in the oven, which took a further 20 minutes.Needless to say we won't be using again for at least another 6 years

well I'm disappointed. I dont normally order from raj of India but thought I'd give them another go, my food didn't stay hot that long, and my chicken masla was just chicken and onions. With rice I didnt bother to finish it. Also I was missing a sprite that wasn't delivered and still charged for i ordered via just eat. Wont be ordering again

The delivery was extremely quick. Shame the food wasn’t good. The chicken in the curry was very limited, mainly just sauce. The poppadom was Tiny. The bread was burnt. Not to mention how sweet one of my meals was. Definitely Going to stick with supermarket oven meals.

Ordered online. The order apparently didn’t go fully through, only part of it. Got there and it was my problem. Talked about how the online booking service took 10% of the order. Then advised I had to call them and if I wanted our takeaway I would need to order again. At no point was there an apology, I was actually made to feel a little stupid in all honesty. Used to go every week/every other. I genuinely would not advise going there. Why sign up to an online booking service if you are going to moan about it. It surely was not the customers fault nor was it my problem? Perhaps i’m wrong. But was not handled well at all.

I order from her a lot and I also go in there to eat with family and I’ve had a bad meal until today, the food was cold and the chicken tikka had no flavour and the rice was all hard like it had been sat there for ages! There was hardly any potato in my sag aloo and overall it was just poor quality! Very very disimpressed

Best Indian I’ve had in Welwyn for months. Had previously tried four or five others and they have gone massively down hill. Only reason we’d not tried Raj of India before is because they only deliver on weekends, but I was so fed up of rubbish food that I wanted to give them a try. All dishes were spot on, and will most definitely return again. I think I’ve found my new ‘local’.

Dishes not as described - fiery hot korma tasted like a dessert. Saag paneer and every other dish full of sugar and no flavour.

Great Restaurant and one of our go toos as you know the level is consistent. We have been ordering for over 6 years and never had a bad takeaway or sit down.

Excellent meal. Everything tasted good, ordered on the 5 course 'banquet' special deal. It was busy too, which also helps to provide a good atmosphere. And despite being busy, service was very good as well. Finally, I appreciated their free wi-fi. Photo 1 is pilau rice, keema naan, sag aloo and chicken tikka dhansak. Photo 2 is the starter - meat samosas.

My food took 2hrs to arrive, after I had called several times to understand what the delay was. I spoke to an extremely unpleasant man named Khan, who told me he didn't have time to waste with my complaint as he was too busy. I've ordered from the restaurant several times before but I will not be doing it again! If I could.give no stars for today's experience I would.

The food was great, had a vegi dansak and paneer shashlik. Both were lush. Paneer was a lovely consistency. Only gripe was my coke didn't turn up but I realised that way too late for them to deal with it as it clicked in my head later. Just eat refunded the coke tho. Will order again A+++

The meal was nearly an hour late. Id received an e mail saying it would be delivered at 6.45pm. At 7.15pm i called the restaurant who said it would arrive within 5 minutes. At 7.35pm i called again to say that it had still not arrived. The meal eventualy arrived at 7.40pm and the driver said hed only been given it 15 minutes before. Disgusting service we will not order from there again!

Love this restaurant. The food is out of this world. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They do a gourmet night 5 courses for £12 including a coffee. Bargin it gets busy so u will need to get in early. 100% recommend this place

Decided at 19:30 we would like to eat here so I rang and booked a table for 20:00 which luckily they could accommodate. Took a stroll round and were seated promptly. We enjoyed popadoms whilst waiting for our order. The restaurant was busy with some large tables but we weren’t kept waiting too long. As we weren’t too hungry we share a chicken korma, a coconut and pineapple rice, sag aloo and a chilli and garlic naan. All were superb. Only wish we had been hungrier to enjoy more of the food. Would definitely recommend

Lovely atmosphere - just spent evening here with 5 other friends for the mon/ tues special menu deal for£13. Huge choice of dishes to choose from , excellent service and great atmosphere / decor - portions could be a little bigger tbh but quality and price was great for what you pay.
