Turaa Indian Streatery in South Derbyshire

Food and atmosphere marvellous - it was a great evening. Well worth a visit.

Have ordered food from this restaurant for a while and it’s always been good. However they failed to put one of my dishes in the bag tonight but still charged me. When I called to point this out, rather than apologise or offer to bring the dish out or refund me, they basically accused me of lying. They claimed they had the cctv footage of them putting the food in the bag - which given that he said this as soon as I called up, I’m not sure how he could possibly know this - unless he films all the food being packed and keeps a constant reel of this footage running on a screen in the restaurant in real time and commits it to memory - probably unlikely? Very odd and disappointing. He also challenged me because it had been half an hour since we picked up the order - my wife had to go to the shop on the way home. Apparently this was another reason I might have been lying! Being called a liar and paying for things that don’t materialise is not what I’m looking for in a restaurant so we definitely won’t be going there again.

Its fair to say that just lately I've tried to move away from eating at the same places as i need to be more adventurous. So here we end up at Turaa's Indian Streatery. Ive ttied most of the restaurants in this 10 mile radius but not here. Without doubt, as the pics show, not your normal type of indian dining. I had a fabulous deep red Chicken Tikka Masala, lemon rice and cheese naan( loaded with cheese) We also had Mothers Butter chicken, chicken korma and, even though it wasnt on the menu, a Chicken shaslik served on a bamboo leaf and literally smoking, see pics. Definately a return visit is on the cards

We went on Saturday 12th with four of our friends and had an amazing dinner. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was great and the food was absolutely delicious. I can thoroughly recommend Tara and can’t praise the staff enough for the attention and service.

I’m not the type to leave a review but this place deserves it! Food was absolutely perfect (best lamb I’ve ever had), staff were so brilliant, and the decor was great too. Thanks for a brilliant evening, can’t wait to come back again!

Amazing! Food was so so good, full of flavour and so much to choose from. The atmosphere is so warm and cosy with a really chilled and authentic vibe. The staff were so helpful and friendly, can’t fault the place at all. 100% recommend and 100% will return!

Visited for the first time this week. It is clearly a favourite with many as diners were very familiar with the owners. The food was amazing. We each had the Thalia and it was delicious and great to try a range of dishes. We will definitely be back.

A fantastic mix of great food, great theatre and great service! Mumbai Platter was beautifully presented the meats were perfectly cooked, moist and packed with flavour. The use of dry ice added an extra wow factor, making it as visually stunning as it was delicious.

Lovely food and atmosphere. We had the lamb samosas and Chicken Bao Buns to share for our starter and both had the Butter Chicken for our main, all were delicious.

Amazing good, amazing atmosphere and the servers were friendly and helpful. Still cant quite get over though how much is being charged for the poppadoms… £3 for an ‘individual portion’ which is basically less than one poppadom broken up 😅 other than some crazy prices, I would highly recommend

A fantastic setting, amazing staff and gorgeous food. Our first time here with friends from Cumbria and they said it was thd best Indian meal they had ever had.

There are not enough great adjectives to describe Turaa. Superb, excellent, over the top, consistent, amazing, delightful, beautiful, and yummy in all ways. I stay in Melbourne in the UK when I travel from the US. I stay at the Coach house, another exceptional place if you need to stay. For dinner, Turaa is right next door to the coach house which is how I found this little gem. In the last year I have eaten at Turaa over 20 times. It is my go to place and I eat as many nights as possible when I am over. It is beautiful inside! The food is exceptional and creative. EVERY TIME!! I have had many of the items on the menu. The curries, the biryani, the charcoal, the masala, the apps. ALWAYS EVERY time amazing. I have celiac and Turaa staff works with me on gluten free options. I have never gotten ill. I have had the experience of service from every employee and it is fantastic. Aaqib, Zaman, Suhen, Kobir, Aryan and of course Ibz-unbelievably kind, attentive and the best service ever. I travel internationally and domestically for work and leisure and have eaten at many places around the globe. By far this is one of the best! I have just arrived back to Melbourne and look forward to my dinner meal. And scheduling as many other nights to eat here as I can. Ibz and/or Zaman are there every time. I thank you both for creating somewhere special and consistent and delicious. Whether you travel to Melbourne from afar or live in the region you must come experience Turaa Indian eatery. I would give you 100 plus stars if I could!

Got to say, this is in my top five of all time UK curry houses. Different is good, and outside of the main locations they have Lassi on the menu, rare 👍

Fabulously tasty food with 1st class service

Ordered a take away from here the other night and I think it’s the best Indian I’ve had! Butter chicken was gorgeous.

Really lovely meal and great atmosphere, very relaxed. It’s nice to find different dishes on the menu, there were several main dishes that I could have picked- good excuse to return!

We have been here a few times and it never disappoints. The service is fantastic, the food is presented beautifully and is absolutely delicious! The favours of each dish are amazing, freshly cooked . First time going to this place but won't be the last. Great food with all the usual sort of options but with lots of other interesting more unusual items too. Decor is nice and parking was easy. Had a nice chat with the owner after our meal and it's clear he's worked really hard to make it the success that it is. Definitely recommend giving it a try if you've not been before!

The most fantastic food and service, Ibz is the owner and he is superb, you can tell how much he loves his restaurant and the food, heritage and his family. We had all of his recommendations, so many new choices! All were fab, planning our return visit already!

Been wanting to try Turaa for a while now and wish we went sooner! Lovely food, best lamb chops I've ever tasted. The Railway Cabin Lamb was a perfect level of spice and the Butter Chicken had so much flavour! Would definitely recommend trying a mix of the small plates. Can't wait to return to try more from the menu! Great service, lovely decor and will 100% be returning.

Expensive for basic Indian food.

3 of us visited and from the moment we arrived we were mage to feel very welcome with a very personalised service from all staff and the owner. The food was exceptional, we had the Railway lamb, butter chicken and the chicken on the bone home curry which is something very different to normal fare, full of flavour and a dish we would certainly order again. The building is also atmospheric and full of character.

Lovely staff, great service and yummy yummy food. Your menu is superb. Thanks for accommodating us without a booking, we can’t wait to come back soon, we found a gem.

Best Prawn Jalfrezi I've Ever Tasted! I’ve never written a review on TripAdvisor before, but after visiting Turaa with my husband and daughter, I just had to share. The Prawn Jalfrezi was absolutely amazing—by far the best I’ve ever tasted! It was packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. We’ll definitely be returning.

What a lovely first time experience. Lovely venue nice artwork and really nice waiting staff who are attentive young men. We both enjoyed the food so much. Tasty poppadoms and chutney. Delicious vegetable samosas. Delicious garlic chilli chicken and aubergine curry and tasty garlic coriander naan . both curries really good. We will be back.

Went here with a number of overseas work colleagues who had never eaten Indian food before, we asked for an Indian banquet with a range of starters and mains. We left the choices up to the restaurant, and it didn't disappoint. The food was delicious 😋 If you wanted to try an Indian which isn't your typical local curry house, this place is a must

This was probably the best curry I’ve ever had. We went on a Sunday evening and everything was spot on. The service was good, the environment was good and the food was amazing. The chap who welcomed us was friendly, helpful and his recommendations were keenly followed. I had The Thali with the railway cabin lamb and Sri Lankan chicken. This was excellent. My wife had Goan fish curry and this was superb. It’s not cheap but it’s not a Friday night post pub curry, either. Highly recommended and we’ll definitely return - this time for a bowl full of the railway cabin lamb!

We have had the pleasure of eating at Turaa on a number of occasion and the food, experience and staff never fail to impress. However, nothing prepared the night we threw a surprise party on the wrong day! Totally our fault but we have booked for a 25 people to come for a surprise party and had given the restaurant the wrong date!! So there we were with 25 guest, the birthday girl on the way and potentially now food! Well the speed with which the team made up of AAQIB, SUHEN and ZAMAN along with the kitchen responded was nothing short of incredible. Within 10mins of realising our mistake they had turned around the restaurant to be ready for the party and had the food on the go. The result was an incredible, seamless evening that nearly never happened but ended up being an huge success. Turaa we salute you!!

What a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. Casual dress seemed to be the order of the day. We were welcomed by smart attentive staff who expected us and immediately made us feel welcome. The menu was easy to read and the Indian street food dishes explained well. The waiting staff pointed out how to order sharing plates so we could try a few of the dishes that were new to us and gave us information on how the menu worked. The food arrived and didn’t disappoint, it looked smelt and tasted delicious. This is a must try restaurant. I would highly recommend it. It was our wedding anniversary and it was made memorable by the quality of the food and service and value for money. We shall be back.

A curry of this standard is a rare beast indeed and by goodness did the food and atmosphere live up to the five star reviews. Beautifully balanced spices and home made or locally sourced authentic indian ingredients. The icing on the cake for me was discovering one of the staff lived in many of the places I did in Birmingham where I originally hail from. Apparently he sounds 'yorkshire' to local ears which made me laugh. My son really enjoyed the portion we brought home for him. To sum it up, Turaa has a fantastic balance of the contemporary and the traditional with something for every palate; from the old faithfuls to exciting and diverse alternatives.

What an absolute treat! Turaa exceeded our very high expectations and we can't wait to visit again. The food was impeccable; delicious and beautifully presented. We both chose the Thali and were overwhelmed by the quality of food we received. The restaurant is cosy and has a lovely relaxed feel to it. We were there on a Thursday and there were families, couples and groups of friends all enjoying themselves. The staff team really do go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and welcome.

Stayed the weekend in Melbourne and this place was so good we went twice! All the food seemed really fresh, good portion sizes and really uniquely presented. Great variety of dishes, we opted for a main and some small plates to share and it was all delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the decor is beautiful. Would absolutely recommend, well worth the price

2nd visit was very noisy and food very expensive - poppadoms and main with 2 sides and drinks was £43!! 1st visit Booked for Sat night. Place has potential however they crammed our table in next to a party of 4 that we had to move the table. The poppadoms came out after starters as we had to remind them, very slow to taking out did and drinks order. Tbh it felt like they were short staffed. The food was great just the service busy

The taste of street food is always very tempting, and this one is definitely a good choice. I booked online in advance (recommend). We like old building, like the paintings on the wall, friendly people, and as expected, very delicious good quality food.

What a great place! From the moment we walked in we were really well looked after. Aaqib and all the staff were really attentive and pleasant and the food was amazing. We had a number of small plates which were all beautifully presented and delicious. To cap it all, they went out of their way to help us when we couldn’t get transport back to our hotel. Thank you so much, we hope to be able to visit again next time we are in the area.

This is quite stunning food. We were initially turned away because the restaurant was shut but came back and were warmly greeted by Aaqib. He is clearly enthusiastic about his family’s restaurant and with good reason. The food is exceptional. The restaurant is a long way from home for us but. We will definitely be back :-)

Been wanting to come here for a while and finally we got the opportunity on Friday evening. Make sure you book! This place has a great vibe! The staff, the decor, the atmosphere, the food, it’s all fabulous. We’re going to have to return because there’s so many more dishes on the menu that we want to try. Some of them are quite unique and I’ve not seen them elsewhere. The food that we did try was all delicious especially the date nan, pani puris, gunpowder paneer, mixed grill, which came out theatrically :-) Thanks to the owner Ibs and his wonderful team for looking after us and taking the time to sit and talk to us. It was lovely listening to the background story of how this gem came about. This is a must visit, you won’t be disappointed. Keep doing a fab job and good luck going forward.

Very friendly staff, good food, and it was nicely quiet as it was a Sunday. One of us said that she wished they had a branch near her as her green lamb curry was delicious. Travelled from Oxfordshire.

The food was really tasty, but incredibly expensive. £3 per person for some broken poppadoms and tiny pots of chutney. £18 for a main. Service quite slow. All the food didn't come out in one go, and we weren't a big table. And at the end of the night they started sorting out bin bags just behind us which wasn't great.

Our first visit but definitely not the last! We as a family of 15 (including 4 children) on this occasion visited on Saturday evening for my husband’s birthday, upon recommendation from a friend. The staff and food were nothing short of fantastic! I had been in communication with Ibz prior to our visit to provide a pre order due to our numbers. Really friendly and helpful in advising on meal choices that were new to us. The food was almost too pretty to eat but tasted delicious! The staff brought out dry ice to create a bit of drama around service. Just great. The staff sang happy birthday to my hubby when they bought out our cake. Nothing to fault, only praise and we cannot wait to return. Thanks so much for a great start to our evening.
