Try Dowr - JD Wetherspoon in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We ventured in here at 1pm. Obviously, the lunchtime rush. It was very busy. Anyhow the staff were great. Rushed off their feet as always. However, it was good service. The food was hot and delicious. I had the special, sweet potatoe and chick pea curry. I think that was being served just for today. Anyway, all in all, it was a good experience.

got id'd at 4 o'clock before i even got the chance to breathe or sit down when i had no intention of drinking and constantly glared at by the older staff.

service from the floor staff was excellent the £18 for 2 large COLD breakfasts and 2 hot drinks it was terrible never felt so ill after eating cold what seemed like been sat on the side all morning would not recommend it go somewhere were they cook you a fresh HOT breakfast

Short staffed. The staff that was working did a good job, but it was quite busy and had to wait a bit too long. The food was quite good, though.

Went in today 19/ 03/2025 at 11.45am. Me and my husband wanted an all day brunch,and my elderly mother wanted a small ham,egg and chips. Went to the bar to order only to be told there were no all day brunches or ham,egg and chips available. Very disappointed today. We left and ate somewhere else.

Affordable meals and easy to go to pub and restaurant.

Always seems quieter than other spoons across Cornwall so plenty of opportunity for a good chat over reasonably priced drinks.

I was physically sick from the food. Won't be going back again until they learn how to cook chicken correctly!!

So, If I remember correctly my basic Cornish language, I believe "Try Dowr" means a large pub in the middle of the town centre, which is extremely convenient for Primark, and doesn't play music but is always busy as it is considerably cheaper than other local drinking establishments".

Would have been better if they sorted the draft coming from the doors. Some of this is due to people not being able to read the sign and also that they have not sorted this problem that’s been going on for ages.

Faster service than most Wetherspoons. Food was well presented.

Nothing too different from an expected weather's poon visit but the staff were diligent and seemed like a tight team. Good venue.

Friday 31st Jan. Lousy food, steak cremated. Ham very, very salty. Atmosphere, tense. Not a good night out for£44. Pity. Food was good but not now.

Clean, spacious, the usual 'spoons food and much better loos than I've seen in many other spoon's establishments. Staff seemed to work hard.

Had delicious dinner at Try Dowr with fantastic service. Staff were brilliant. I had chicken pieces with Soya sauce and salad and my husband chicken jalfrezi curry.

Nice place before or after the theatre

Really busy, the place was a mess. Food all over tables, drink spilt, carpet disgusting. Queued for ages to buy a drink, gave up in the end as fed up if waiting. Didn't eat here but looking at the food that came out, I'm glad I didn't. I know whetherspoons is cheap, but the cleanliness put me right off.

Large, spacious and clean environment, they've got friendly and live staff

Serves a purpose. Food is great value, as with all wetherspoons, although it is more expensive than other wetherspoons. The St Austell wetherspoons is much better value. But complaints aside, it is still amazing value and I would definitely recommend.

It's never going to win awards, but it's cheap and cheerful and fills you up.

Both my wife and I ordered a traditional breakfast each. We were the only couple in there at 8.15, our food was Luke warm to cold and the hash browns were like cardboard. All we got was a sorry.

Cosy atmosphere. Service was really quick and staff friendly. Unlimited drinks refills are an absolute bargain! Food is basic and portions quite small (but enough) and there's a good amount of choice. My biggest problem with Wetherspoons is their entirely anti dog policy, even in their outdoor spaces, which isn't really necessary and I find very discriminative and off putting.

Not usually a great fan of Wetherspoons with a few exceptions and this is certainly one. Good food, excellent quick service and all at the low Wetherspoons prices. As a bonus, a nice, warm fireplace on a chilly day.

Easy to get tables and fast service, when ordered through the app. Tables generally clean. Basic weatherspoons food. Breakfast wraps are always good. Coffees are good and unlimited refills.

It was great and good for money and food

We popped in for a quick drink whilst waiting for our cab after a night out at The Hall For Cormwall. Pub was noisy and quite busy. Didn't eat here, so I haven't scored the food. Quite a wait to get served, but bar staff were working hard to keep the queue to a minimum. Service was polite and efficient, and my Doombar and Jen's G&T were refreshing and surprisingly inexpensive by today's standards. A good, if brief experience.

Busy friday evening, found a table had a drink ordered food and it was very quickly served. Good bar staff very nice manager.Great atmosphere with staff dressed up for Halloween.

I just left my purse on the train going to london (so wasn’t going to get that back), my step sister who is 18 months younger than me said she would meet me in truro whilst i waited to get picked up because obviously I couldn't pay for a taxi, train, bus ect. we decided to go into spoons for a drink just to calm me down because obviously i was a bit stressed. my step sister went up to order a pitcher jug showed her id all was fine.5 minutes after my step sister came over with the jug this tall man with a beard and a blonde lady who i’m guessing who was the manager came over and asked me for id. I told them the story of my purse getting left on the train and they instantly with no sympathy said No drinking for you then and snatched my glass. i told them i had photos of my passport and my driving license and they both stood in an attitudal way and shouted at us no id no drinks. This would have been understandable if they asked for id when we were ordering as we just wouldn’t of got it, however we already paid and obviously my step sister isn’t going to sit there and drink a full pitchers to herself. Overall we were going to stay for food but after this experience i would never probably come back again due to the rudeness of your staff. I’ve put 5 stars for atmosphere because the lady’s next to us stuck up for us. As for this spoons the only good thing about this experience was the pitchers as we did put it in a bottle and leave.

Probably the worst of the local wetherspoons, but it is relatively cheap, compared to the rest of truro.

The staff were exceptional from order taking service, table clearing no. 25 at 2.00pm today. Curry and steak perfect plus deserts all good value and enjoyable. A credit to the training and motivational methods of this business. We’ve experienced similar in loads of Weatherspoons throughout England. I’m especially looking forward to try out the Crown in Marlow!!!

Went for breakfast this morning, 3 of us, and impressed with the choice offered. Trouble is, the food is never hot. We stop coming here for a while, then give it another go but still serving cold food. I tried the new American breakfast, the other 2 with me had Benedict breakfast. Potentially, they could all be very good but they have to be HOT! Shame

Extremely DIRTY. If you want your table cleaned you’ll have to ask multiple times. You might be lucky the 3rd time. The food is just basic whetherspoons food, atmosphere wasn’t very nice.

Super fast service! Went to fill up our coffees and by the time we got back our food was at the table. Nice manager too 👍

Went in a group of 13 of us, ordered via the app for breakfast which was decent. Came back in the evening for dinner, however, we had our dog with us. My missus sat on the chairs outside with the dog, but was rather rudely confronted and told (not instructed) by a member of staff that dogs are not allowed. Which is fair enough as it's company policy, but the manner in which this happened was a rude. Our party of 13 left and went to the Truro lounge round the corner who happily accepted us and the dog.

There is no point of asking how do I want my steak cooked if it will end up well done anyway again and again. They will never understand difference between medium and cremation 🤔🤦‍♂️ Greek style salad was as tastes as it can be. Very disappointed

Came here twice. Must say that the staff here is utterly terrible. Rude and helpless. First time I thought maybe they had a busy day so came again but same story. Went to the bar to order food and drinks, completely ignored by the staff who just looked at me and served some who was second in the que despite the fact that he knew I was next. However I must say that the food was OK and didn't have to wait long to arrive.

The Try Dower are doing a stellar job with the social distancing. It feels safe and welcoming and still has a great atmosphere. Naomi is an excellent manager!

Very busy, took a while to find a table for 3 adults and 3 children. Ordered at bar and only waited a short time for our meals.

Very busy pub on a Saturday morning, but the wait for food wasn't too long. Staff were kept very busy!

Service was slllllooooooooowwwww. I have no idea why as there was only 10 people in the building. Hence the 1☆ for atmosphere too.

It was ok. The prices have gone up but that's life, at the moment anyway. The food was fine, and the meal arrived 1-2 minutes after I ordered it, which was extremely impressive. The staff were friendly enough. It just lacked in atmosphere, but you can't buy atmosphere. Served it's purpose well. Enjoy

One of the best visited wetherspoons

Brought a pint out of here, lovely pint but no dogs aloud inside which is obvious but not even aloud outside even told twice about it.

Typical city centre Wetherspoons, not over busy on my visit, the chips were not as hot as I expected.

Came in, the manager was extremely rude, refused to give me my staff discount.

Cheap an cheerful food and drink..staff are nice a friendly, always very busy. A lot of unsavoury types sadly, not the best place for a family meal with the kids but great with friends.

Just another Wetherspoons. Busy and often very crowded especially at the weekend. Food is just about OK for the price and is always available. The toilets could certainly do with some updating. There is some seating outside the front, but hardly inviting.

My chicken burger was stale and small, my boyfriends mixed grill was all burned and his mums was small and burnt but they sorted it reluctantly

Food - not hot, it was cold in parts! Service - not with a smile. In fact staff were the opposite and very miserable. There was a big queue at the bar, staff were going behind it and walking off ignoring the queue. I could see one person get frustrated and another walked away, which is what I think the staff wanted. Atmosphere - despite issues with service, it seemed pleasant enough! Don't expect high standards from this place, because your expectations won't be met. Toilets were very clean upstairs!

Probably the best spoons I've been to. A really good breakfast great service and nice quality room. Just a really good allround experience.

Food came out quickly and was decent, the staff were friendly. The set out of the pub wasn't as nice as some wetherspoons, it felt a bit more like a hall, with an open layout than a nice cosy pub, but that can't be helped.

It was a Wethespoon pub, with mediocre beer and typical food. We were after a quick bite to eat before catching a train and it served that purpose. It wouldn't be my local if I lived in Truro

Can get quite busy, which means that there can be a wait time. Using the app is the quickest way to get served. The food is good. The all-day brunch is filling!.

Food wasn't very warm staff wasn't very friendly

Wouldn’t serve us drinks because we were ‘drunk’ when a table across from us were shouting and screaming because they were really drunk. Make it make sense?

Neverspoons......they are theme pubs...and the theme is agro.

Very busy restaurant, close to Hall for Cornwall, Plaza, mini shopping precinct, large carpark in close proximity.

Sadly one of the few places to eat in Truro, but the food was good. Seriously one of the best young crews ever in 'Spoons. This may explain the large number of young families and very mixed crowd, far more of a family pub than expected. Food and drinks were delivered in double quick time. Even got to try the baby Guinness cocktails and will never try them again as too sweet.

Visiting Truro today from North Wales and we like to visit a Wetherspoons in every town we go to, this includes visiting with our dog. We today were asked to leave the outside area of this establishment because we had our dog!!! The outside!!! We have never been turned away from any Wetherspoons other than this, which we find totally baffling, we would understand that your strange rules in Truro may be somewhat different, bit to be thrown out of your outside area is just bizarre,
