Great place that serves good beer. They always have something going on, and a large variety of events to suit everyone.

This is a nice venue but given how big it is they never have enough staff. So expect to stand in a post office style queue for half an hour to get a pint.

My local, always reliable and friendly people Food is amazing as always. Used Trumans for my GFS 30th so organized and helpful.

Easier to list failings… - Arrived to no beer… gas run out - Kitchen closed as… no gas - Kitchen reopened, orders taken for roasts and other items - 90 minutes later “we only do roasts today, sorrrryyyy” - To then learn that wasn’t true but manager “was too scared of the chef to talk to him” - Male barman effectively squared up to my wife because he hadn’t heard her say a crisp flavour! (I kid you not) - Dart boards “we’ve lost the darts” - Pool table “we’ve lost the key to make it work” - Pool cues with no tips on them - Food eventually came after two hours - 6 out of 8 beers off - All topped off by “we can’t get you a receipt for your refund as we’ve run out of till paper” I don’t like to do reviews, particularly in current climate, but this was not about Covid hospitality issues, it could all have been fixed by the many many staff there doing nothing. Don’t fall for this place. It’s rubbish.

Really impressed by the kindness of the staff, I’d checked in advance about parking with a blue badge (for one of my party) no problem at all & they were ready with ramps to assist with access before our table was booked. The space is big & airy which makes it feel very safe, the entrance requirements of showing test results, NHS vaccine records or taking a lateral flow there, made it feel an extremely safe place to relax. The food was delicious, service warm & friendly. I’d definitely recommend.

The venue on a quiet day is absolutely lovely, but the bar is tiny for the size of the building. It's around 2000 occupancy yet they have a bar designated for three bartenders. I came in one evening with my friends and we ordered our drinks through the app when the place was around half full and there was a queue as long as the hall. After 40 minutes i was getting a little concerned that maybe my order hadnt gone through so i approached the bar to ask where my drink was when a guy (I think his name was Wally i heard someone say?) was rude to me and told me there was no way id been waiting that long for my drink, bare in mind i had been and i only asked because i already paid and it seemed crazy that there was a 40 minute wait for drinks . . .in a bar. I heard him then complain to the staff that they werent serving fast enough. They all looked around 18 where this guy was around 30 something. I came back to the bar 10 minutes later and the same guy rolled his eyes when i said i want my drink or at least a time of how long its going to be, he then went and made my drinks and suggested if i didnt want to be waiting around i should order two drinks at a time. My food was also late and the staff all looked absolutely swept off their feet i felt so bad for them. One guy was around 40 and he hadnt stopped running up and down the place for the whole time we were there (that was around 4 hours) the food was fine, a bit greasy. All in all i think the space is amazing and the staff were all doing their best but the managers didnt seem to have a clue. if you go here. make sure it isnt on a friday or saturday because you will not get a drink.

I'm local, it's local so popped along with a friend. On his recommendation, I had the Chicken burger and fries. To be honest it all came along too quickly which is never a good sign. Fries were dry and stale - seemed like they'd been sitting around in a warm tray or suchlike. The chicken was inedible and so tough, I suspect that too had been cooked a while earlier and was dry and tough as old boots. I mentioned it to the server who apologised for my quarter eaten food and said he'd mention it but heard nothing. Food might be ok after 10 pints but what a letdown. Sadly my friend had the same the day before and had no problems... am I just unlucky?.

There is a lot to love about this place. Staff are friendly and food (when it arrives) is tasty. It a big space and we didn’t feel tightly squeezed in, also they were taking the appropriate measure to make it COVID secure. We had a booking for an indoor table as the outside was already full, but actually that suited us. The table app worked well for ordering but it’s the delivery that lets them down. We had order a bottle of a Cuvée, so we were very surprised when a staff member came over with 3 wine glasses filled to the brim with wine (plastic glasses). They were apologetic but explained that they are not allowed to give the bottle. Very strange, guessing it’s a licensing condition but regardless a heads up would have been nice. Also they had carafes with lids that they used tor water, so not sure why the it couldn’t have been decanter the bottle into one of those and put it in bucket of ice. Instead the £44 bottle was split between 3 glasses (I’m wondering what they would have done if we only selected 1 glass!) and we got plastic cups to tip some of drink out (one of use only wanted a half a normal measure). As it is a brewery, I’m guessing if you stick with beers then you will be fine. So onto the food - one friend ordered the chicken ramen burger and it was tasty and arrived quickly - perhaps too quickly given the wait for my other friend’s order. I ordered the dirty fries, they were tasty but the portion (which is £9.90 and the menu states is for sharing) was rather small but we still enjoyed them. We then waited patiently for my friend’s order (chicken wings, spicy aubergines, prawn dish) - in the end it took over an hour and a couple of chasing attempts to get them and they weren’t really worth the wait (and that’s over an hour after my friend had finished her burger!). The spicy aubergines was a decent side dish (a little too oily for me but good taste), the chicken wings lacked any real spice but we did eat them. The prawns, which took the longest to arrive were just adequate and were a bit of a let down. Staff were apologetic, if they had offered us a free drink or nibbles that would have been welcomed but I get the sense they don’t have any anonymity to make such decisions. As they were friendly and given what has been going on with the pandemic, we didn’t want to make a complaint. Also it was just lovely being out with my friends Would we go ago again? May be, there is a lot of potential but we are not in a hurry to go back and would prefer to check out other local places for now.

Visited here a few days ago with my friends and loved it! The service was friendly from the team at the reception, to the guy opening the door for us when we went outside. The place is very Covid safe with sinks on arrival to wash your hands and everything being hands free. The venue is absolutely huge and extremely spaced out and well designed and the garden is also huge with a great atmosphere! The drinks menu is extensive with lots of their own beers, we tried a few and they were all delicious and affordable. They also had two food trucks one with vegan junk food and one with gyoza and katsu, we tried both and both were very substantial and delicious which I find quite uncommon in these kinds of places. The food is usually overpriced for really small portions so I was pleasantly surprised to see big portions and have tasty food. (Another bonus is that they also use Who Gives a Crap loo roll which is great for the planet!) Overall I cannot wait to come back and bring lots of different friends this place, hoping it will become a regular spot once allowed again!

I’ve been going to buns for over a year now and the quality of food and service never falls short. This may be the only restaurant in Walthamstow that I’d recommend.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “The Chef’s Burger at The Goose is easily the best in Walthamstow! Perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor—every bite was spot on. The bun was soft but held everything together, and the toppings were just right. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and seriously good food. If you’re after a proper burger, this is the place to be

I’ve been using Butkers Retreat regularly for several years. It’s a great location for walkers. The coffee was reliably good and became less reliable. It is now, unfortunately, reliably poor.

Has been shut down by Environmental Health. The signs put up by the pub say closed due to circumstances beyond their control. But a mouse infestation and lack of cleanliness, as stated on the health is within their control

Edit: they've put 2 pool tables back Lovely staff. Lovely garden. Reasonable prices. But they used to have the best pool tables in walthamstow and they recently got rid of them for more seating that rarely even gets used. Bring back the pool! Or at least some other games. It doesn't feel the same without the pool tables. But overall decent place if you're just looking for an average priced lager. But without the pool tables there's nothing to make it stand out over the other pubs in Walthamstow.
