True Taste of India in Rochdale

Lovely place. Food excellent, sadly too full after the main course to sample the dessert. Really wanted to try the banana fritters 😔. Staff could have been more attentive. Fellow diners were much more friendly. Downside was that the door was permanently open and the draught was uncomfortable. Would definitely return if we didn't live so far away.

Walked in on valentines evening the place was empty and cold,Front of house staff was not professional atall ,he rolled cigarettes at the bar (everyone could see) he must have gone outside to smoke atlesst three times while we was there and never washed his hands once.The food was ok ,but would not recommend

Unfortunately I had a poor experience at this restaurant. We ordered starters and hadn’t even finished them yet for two different waiters to be hovering around and keep checking to see if we had finished which was very rude. The chips were microwaved and dry. I ask for my curry to be hot and for extra chillies to which it was like a korma with no spice at all. I went out of a cigarette to find out the wife has been approached by the staff to ask where I was going?? Again very rude if you ask me. At the end of it all we got two shots given to us which I asked if they were alcoholic as the wife is pregnant to them to say no when it blatantly stunk of alcohol. Overall poor food, very poor service and I would not recommend this place or return unfortunately

Great local curry house! Friendly staff, delicious food and good service. We took our Auntie here for a Saturday family curry and had a lovely time.

Absolute delicious really really my food. We all enjoyed our third but it is a little bit pricey but well worth it.

We had a lovely family dinner last night. Cannot imagine we lived nearby for 20 years and didn't try it. The food was lovely, excellent ingredients, and very nice portions. and the staff are all very friendly and polite and kept attending to the table. The place was busy but a very friendly and respectable crowd. Even they asked us if we wanted a taxi on our way out. We are going to be regulars from now own.

Very disappointed - early Saturday evening walked in to restaurant - very quiet and empty tables everywhere. Firstly told we couldn’t be sat down ?? Then fold if we could eat and be done within hour they will accommodate us. Food was ok at a push - service and atmosphere was terrible - in fact the waiter dropped plate in front of wife with no apology. We had to put food back onto plate. When complained the waiter wasn’t bothered and was sarcastic … poor atmosphere and others could hear the waiters comments. Won’t be going on there again

Lovely place, friendly staff, not the cheapest place but that's ok because the food and service is worth the money. Spent about 100 on 3 of us, each had a main and starter and sides and naans plus drinks. The atmosphere of the place is great too, very welcoming and clean. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

The food was lovely but the group of men that took over the restaurant with their loud vocal filthy language was too much for us to enjoy the evening. The staff hadn't got the courage to challenge the male group adjacant to us and try to control their ignorant behaviour. We will not spend any time there again. End of story. Future customers good luck!

Went for a meal with my wife,The meal was really good and we would certainly go again,the only thing that let it down was the stairs leading to the toilets needs replacing it was quite dirty.

We used to live not far from the eating place but moved several years ago, we always enjoyed the good food and a chat with the staff. Last week we booked in with our family for my wife’s birthday and found the food was absolutely spot on in every respect. We had a great evening and a chat with the brothers who run the restaurant. Can’t wait for next time

we ordered the set meal for two..which included main meals chicken tikka massala and a chicken bhuna...my bhuna tasted like fairy liquid it was that bad i actually spat it straight back out..never ever tasted anything like it, very perfumy it wasn t lemongrass or corriander the taste was soap.. tasting like fairy liquid is the perfect discription..the tikka had the same taste..to be honest it felt a little bit like a wind up..a joke ...absolutely yuck...

If you can beat the food here please let me know where you are. The food here is exceptional

After living close buy and frequenting other local indian restaurants, we decided to give this place a go for our anniversary. Sadly it ruined our evening. We had pre-booked and walked in to a fairly quiet restaurant. We were shown to our table and immediately noticed the plastic tablecloth, paper napkins and plastic flowers. I ordered a bottle of wine and a coke for my wife. The coke was flat, with no life in at all. I asked if it could be changed and if it was from a bottle. I was told no it wasn't but had watched them pouring it from a bottle. They came with another after opening a can and using that. The coke was then fine. The wine too was nice. Just before the starters arrived I motioned for the young lad in a white shirt, who was pacing up and down the restaurant for the entire evening like he was on a military march, to change the fork which had dried food on. He picked this up and left and then returned placing a fresh fork down but by holding the prongs with his fingers rather than the handle...I finished by polishing it myself. I have to admit that the starters and food were ok. Although when I asked for mint sauce they brought it out on a plate with a paper napkin decorated with an England flag...There were no other issues there with the food though. During our evening we felt very unsettled with the young lad pacing constantly up and down the entire length of the restaurant and it was only brought to a stop when the gentleman bringing the food to the tables brought out a plate of what looked like onion bhaji's and placed them on the bar to which the young lad shot behind the bar and started stuffing his face as if he had not been fed in a month soon to be joined by the barman. It was very off putting and they had no manners or etiquette at all. The decor was looking tired and it was apparent that there are some serious training and improvements needed to reflect on what was a good level of food provision.

We went for a meal and decided to take advantage of the special meal for 2 offer with a free bottle of house wine. We weren’t disappointed,we enjoyed our starter of chicken tikka and also our main courses, also the house wine was great. The service was excellent and we cannot fault our dining experience

Having enjoyed many meals here over the years, we have recently had takeaways..I feel as though we have been given’leftovers’ re heated. Tough nan bread and tough pastry on the samosas. The main dish was tasty enough but some tough pieces of chicken. There has also been a substantial hike in the prices! Next time we will try the takeaway across the road!

It is a while since visiting due to our previous average experience. Booked for New Years Eve and they said they could squeeze us in at 18:00. Arrived to an almost empty restaurant (it did fill up later). Service was good as there were so many waiters with nothing to do. Started with 3 pops, chutney tray, a portion of lime pickle which totalled nearly £6, a tad over the top if you ask me. No starter and I had chicken tikka madras Asian style and my wife had the king prawn Noakhali which came with a small portion of rice. We had a side dish of Bombay aloo and a garlic nan. I must say the food was excellent and tasty. My only gripe was that it was all a little high on price with a bill of nearly £56 which included one beer and a bottle of house plonk. I don't mind paying a bit extra for quality but there is another very reputable Indian restaurant (Pavillion 2) not far away where it is just as good for quite a bit less. Overall we enjoyed the food and will try again but price was a little disappointing.

We recently had to take a trip to Rochdale and on the way back stopped off here for a meal. Considering the size of the place it turned out to be an amazing place. The food was really good, the meat was very tender and very good size potions. There was plenty to choose from on the menu and a good choice of wine on order to. Within the hour the place was full and although there was only one guy serving us all we never had to wait for our food and there were 3 takeaway orders to. When it came to the bill we thought we had the wrong bill as it seemed to be cheap, but it was ours. So from start to finish it was an excellent all round place to eat. Well done to the True Taste of India. We will be back.

This was a first time visit and I wasn't disappointed. The food was tasty and hot and arrived well presented. I had a chicken tikka massala and my partner had the chicken saag. Both dishes were delicious and would recommend them. The prices were reasonable and the menu had loads of choices. If I was to be negative in any way, it would be the over attentive, prowling staff, who seemed to be constantly pacing past our table in case we required something else!

Top quality Indian food, been going for five years, always consistent.

We have visited True Taste many times as a couple, with friends or with our children and have the odd take away too. Never again! The customer service we received was shocking. We were rushed to order and I was interupted a couple of times when placing my order, rude! Myself and my husband didn't want a big meal as it was late so we ordered a few starter dishes and some sides to share. He interupted AGAIN and asked if we were going to order a main, I said no thanks, to which he replied 'well if you're not having a main I can't do your order'. This did not make any sense, with what we wanted to order we would have paid the same for 2 mains! We were so shocked, never ever been spoken to like that before. I explained that we go there a lot and have had the same kind of food. He said it was new rules. He then basically asked us to leave because we didn't want a main meal. I am disgusted True Taste! You should always provide the customer with whatever food they want to eat! We ended up eating at La Tandoor in Bamford and spent £50 so you missed out! Their service and food was exceptional and we will take our custom there from now on. A real shame that one person has let your restaurant down. We didn't take his name but he was a young lad and the guys we normally see who are lovely were not there. We eat out a lot and we're very sad to say that we will never step foot in your restaurant again.

Visiting Manchester for the long weekend. We loved the food that much we went back a second time. Staff are extremely friendly and efficient. Stopping to chat with diners and making everyone feel like one big family. Top of my list for Indian food. A definite must visit if you’re in the area.

Fantastic food, great staff, good location, quite, great for party, occasions, anniversary, birthdays, when booking is made in advance Second visit, the food is less oily, food are not wasted, if the customer is full, always has been happy to pack your meals, to eat later at home. Birthday, Christmas or anniversary of 20 to 50 are always welcome as a private party booking. My life turned out to be great

Dined here last week with friends, this is a very nice Indian restaurant with a good menu choice all reasonably priced, decent drinks choice also good value. The place has a good feel to it and couldn’t fault the welcome or the service and the food was good quality, it’s a decent little place this and will return, particularly recommend the chicken tikka chilli fry starter if you want a real kick! Well recommended, will return.

It's unfortunate that i can't give 2 separate ratings. I phoned in a takeaway order at 7pm and was told it would be ready at 7.40, or maybe 7.45. Fair enough, I don't need a timing to the minute. I duly arrived at 7.40, paid and waited .. and waited .. and waited. In the meantime another takeaway customer came in, paid and left with his food within a couple of minutes, and the table next to where I was waiting who hadn't even ordered their food after I had paid (and indeed after the other takeaway customer had left), were tucking into their first courses. The food eventually arrived at almost 8.10 with apologies (of course) but no explanation as to reason why other customers didn't have to wait. On the positive side the food, when we eventually got to taste it, was absolutely first class, beautifully cooked and flavoured. When will businesses offering a takeaway service get the message that customers would actually prefer to know a true and accurate time pre-ordered food will be ready for collection, not just a random time that the shop thinks will be acceptable to the customer. If it's going to be an hour, tell me it'll be an hour. So, 1 star for service (on the basis I can't give no stars) and 5 stars for the food. Average 3.

Arrived at around 7pm waited about 40 minutes for someone to come up and take our order, around 20 min until entree and mains did arrive until 9:10. Food was great... when it arrived

I’m local, it’s busy, which is good to see, I recommend chicken tikka shashlic with naga sauce, extra hot, to die for. Pathia also recommended. Good value, great staff. I’m here at Christmas as last year good.

Great food great service a little gem of a restaurant

My husband, Mother-in-law and I visited the True Taste on a Friday evening, and we had a fabulous meal. We all had very different dishes and none of us were disappointed. The service is good, although the staff could just let you get comfy and settled before asking for drinks orders?

Long established curry house in Norden village. Never had a bad meal here, it is quiet early on for family curries. Gets busy when the pubs close. Being renovated as we speak. Also does takeaway.

Honest Indian Food served in a pleasant but basic setting. My taster TEST is always the Peshwari Nan, eaten as an alternative to rice. It is normally cooked in a light 'spongy' way, so was disappointed with the flat oily nan, they served.

Authentic Indian cuisine absolutely delicious and the staff are very accommodating and to top it all the price is right. Fabulous menu which I'm sure you will find something to get your taste buds going.

An Indian takeaway that also has a small and basic restaurant area. Not too posh and good for a reasonably priced curry. Menu has lots of choice and food was very nice. Staff very friendly and helpful. Not tried it as a takeaway yet but I will do soon and will update this review.

A great, if quite basic, Indian restaurant/takeaway. Visited many times and never had a bad meal. Don't expect posh though!

Have eaten at this restaurant on many occasions and the food has always been good (the meat samosas as a starter are the best I have tasted). Although the restaurant is only small and can get very busy, the service has always been good. Will be back again.

Having ordered the Tandoori mixed grill, which was supposed to come with a Naan bread but there was none in the bag. The mixed grill itself was very average for the price. I've had this dish before and usually there's lots of meat. This meal was less than average and portion would probably have satisfied a 10 year old not an adult male. Won't be ordering from there anymore. Also got a king prawn jalfrezi for my partner and the portion of prawns was a joke. They were very quiet in the restaurant so I paid the price for a less than profitable night for them.

Great place if you want to be ill and have the next fortnight off work or 3 days on the Loo. Avoid at all cost, there is some great Indian restaurants close by.

I've recently moved to Norden and have been in this restaurant a few times now and each time lve never had a bad meal. Staff are helpful and the food is well priced and very tasty.They took my address earlier in the year and sent me a Christmas card which l thought was a nice touch, small place but well established.

This restaurant has been here for many years and is a family run business . One sun is the chef and one is the waiter. Licensed with a small bar but it is the food that is the star always good and tasty with a few dishes not seen in other restaurants. Well worth a visit

Dreadful meal. The fresh salmon was some kind of chewy overcooked hideous mess. My meal was barely touched and nobody bothered to ask if there was anything wrong. We will certainly not return. Worst meal I can remember!

Food was mediocre, quite expensive for what you get and service was awful. Not a smile, acknowledgment was none existent if you needed something. Had to wait ages for the food, and there was hardly anyone in there. Will not be going again that's for sure.

Went here the first time fairly recently and been back twice since. Food is very good, tasty and if asked the waiters give an honest reply as to what the curry will be like. Waiters very attentive and nothing is to much trouble. All round a nice little find

Always a tasty treat either as a sit down meal or take away. Friendly staff and great service. Clean and no surprise to see it has 5 star rating for it. The setting probably not going to attract full on foodies but for a reaĺly good, reasonably priced indian meal with no ill effects, it's hard to beat!

Was decent food after a few beers, definitely edible and enough to fill you up, staff laid back and quiet but doesn't matter as enough of us round the table to make our own conversation. Beer was served and food came out on time, nice and hot, tasted good and would go again but only with the lads. Needs some updating to keep up with other Indian restaurants in the area but having said that it was hearty and I would go again

Best Indian takeaway we have ever had. 4 different meals , all excellent especially the Sheree nag special Biriyani. Wonderful. Restaraunt can be quiet but good friendly service and it's been there for 28 years so they must be doing something right. Takeaways less 20% on restaraunt prices.

Went with friends who visit often. Food arrived quickly and was very tasty, one of the meals (Lamb Rogan Josh) was way to hot. The menus do not give you a heat guide for each curry - this needs sorting.The total cost for 4 was £100 which we think was a lot. We go to other Indian restaurants and the cost is about £65 for the same things. The main curries were nearly £10 each - nearly double elsewhere (i have been).

This place opened when I was 18 - gulp! 27 years ago - and I've been for a meal here on many an occasion. It may have changed owners, managers, chefs and staff over time, but I have honestly never been disappointed with the food it provides. If you're looking for a unique taste in the food, or its presentation, you may feel let down; if want something predictably reliable and satisfying you've come to the right place.
