Location, cleanliness, room facilities, parking, breakfast and dinner, service, helpful and very friendly staff. Al Forno met all our requirements. We had a great stay here. Nothing negative about this small family run B&B. Thanks for looking after us.

We just turned up after an awful Air BnB the night before in the hope of a room for 2 nights. Staff were brilliant booked us a room held our luggage for us until room was ready, only an hour (and we turned up early). Free car park great breakfast comfortable clean rooms. Lovely staff close to city centre what’s not to like

Fantastic! The food is fresh and full of flavour with friendly service and with parking on site makes visiting the restaurant easy.

Fantastic stay! Staff very accommodating, couldn’t be more guest focused, the room was clean, warm & comfortable, the menu was great, authentic Italian cuisine and good selection of wine and beer! Good location, if your travel by train it’s a bit of a stroll or a short taxi trip, close to all the sites and shops!! Definitely coming again!!

Had a great stay.2nights. Convenient for all Norwich sights,also free parking. Room very clean and comfy. A great breakfast. We also had dinner on first night, good food. In all a great hotel with very friendly staff.

Not at all the menu you would expect from the name 'Grill House'. Perhaps this is why the restaurant was not at all busy when we booked - we had passed the restaurant on our way to our hotel on the Ipswich Road and thought the menu looked interesting. We were a group of four. Excellent starters, particularly the whitebait and calamari, followed by generous portions of seafood risotto. Very good service. A shame not more diners as would highly recommend. Accompanied by a good, not over-priced white wine.

Popped in last minute with family while England couldn’t manage to score against USA in th World Cup. Great antipasti with quality meats and cheese. Great main courses; the pastas are huge. Will go again.

I cannot understand why the restaurant is called the Grill House because it is actually a genuine little Italian restaurant serving really good home cooked pasta & risotto dishes and pizzas as well as charcoal grilled meats. Unfortunately, being slightly out of town it seems to get overlooked a bit and we were the only customers but admittedly it was a Monday evening. They deserve to do well!

Stayed for 3 nights at what I considered above average cost for a bnb but as it was a bank holiday weekend I had limited options. Room was tidy enough but not the cleanest I've seen, there was a fair amount of dust. When booking I noticed it was an extra £100 (over the 3 day stay) to have a private bathroom as opposed to the cheaper shared bathroom option which I thought was a bit much! the included 'Full English' breakfast was nicely cooked but lacked a few of the ingredients I would expect to see on a cooked breakfast, it was super basic being made up of a sausage, a bit of bacon and some beans with toast, it came with a cup of tea or coffee. There are no cereal options, pastries, fruit or fruit juice available which is a bit stingy considering the cost of the room. (the guy serving breakfast was in fact extremely nice and polite, nothing wrong with the service there) Annoyingly checkout is at 10am (this was also a Sunday!) which I was reminded of abruptly by one of the owners banging on my bedroom door at 10am on the dot as I was in the shower telling me to get out! Really on the early side by my experience. On checkout even after apologising I was told I was the only one left and that everyone else had gone already in an annoyed tone. There is nowhere on any of the bnb paperwork in the room to tell you this is the case. The car park is also a bit difficult to navigate as they hire it out separately to punters wanting to park near the city for the day. I was lucky to find a space one of the days. All in all, fine for a base to get your head down and just need bare basics while visiting Norwich, but the price doesn't reflect this. My experience would have been fine at £60 a night...but at £120 it's a joke.

I travelled from Portugal to Norwich for a week to visit my son. I would normally stay in a hotel but thought I would give this Inn a try as it looked very appealing on the website. I was not disappointed. It really did tick all the boxes. The room was very comfortable and the owners were delightful, especially Ben who served a lovely breakfast every morning. The location was perfect and not noisy at all. It also has the special bonus of having a car park, even though I did not have and did not need a car due to the central location. Just walking distance to the City Centre. A truly pleasant stay in the beautiful city of Norwich. I shall definitely return. Highly recommended!

Stayed here for one night after attending my Daughter's Graduation. We ate in the restaurant and had lovely meals. The rooms were spotless and really quiet. We didn't realise there were other guests there. A very pleasant place to stay, free secure parking and only 2 minutes walk to the City Centre.

Booked as son was going to a party nearby, was very pleased great friendly service and food cooked fresh to order, both myself and wife’s meals were delicious will be going back also has parking

Visited on Saturday night. Lovely ambience, good food from a varied menu served hot and on hot plates. A bonus was to find ample car parking space belonging to the inn/restaurant. To those local this used to be called The Trowel and Hammer but has had a complete tasteful make over. Will certainly be back. Highly recommended.

An unexpected visit. Great service - great meal and great price. Recommend the freshly made pizza. The waiter was Really good and not at all ‘pushy’ re started and desserts. Thank you. I’ll be back.

Came here with friends and have to say the food was delicious, a very good menu with plenty to choose from. Everything we all had was delicious, very tasty, hot and the service was great, friendly and attentive. We will certainly go back

Great food, personal service - this place is fantastic; the antipasto della casa is superb, pizzas are great, no skimping on toppings - the pasta is a super large serving - I wasn't able to finish it. Next time, we will try the steaks; I'm sure they will be excellent—excellent wine list - not too expensive and a good variety. Please try this place out! We loved it twice now.

Me and my family of 4 came for dinner after a day trip and it did not disappoint. The food was huge portions and all cooked very fresh, pizza was one of the best I’ve ever had! All staff were very welcoming and friendly, Will deffo return. Couldn’t recommend to anymore more, wish we had strayed in the hotel here too!

The Grill House Norwich offers a pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. Plus it has off street parking. Highly recommended!

Title says it all! Home made stone based pizza base and generous topping portions. Will definitely be back for takeaways ( menu is more extensive than just pizzas) and will look forward to dining in once we can

Hemos disfrutado de varias visitas desde que la posada volvió a abrir como el Grill House después del cierre. La comida es simplemente excelente, con una gran variedad para elegir a precios muy razonables. Particularmente favorables son la Pizza Napoli y la hamburguesa tradicional del Grill House. Mi socio me informó de manera confiable que los diferentes platos de carne son fabulosos. Ambiente muy agradable, acogedor y seguro Covid. ¡Definitivamente lo recomiendo!

Encontré este lugar por accidente mientras visitaba la zona. El personal fue muy acogedor y educado. Extremadamente limpio y bien configurado para distanciamiento social y seguimiento y localización. Ambos tuvimos pizza recién preparada y muy sabrosa. Estacionamiento gratis. Recomendaría una visita si busca un ambiente relajante y un servicio excelente. Gracias.

Excelente ubicación justo en el borde de todas las tiendas, habitaciones muy amplias, limpias y cálidas, cuarto de baño privado con una ducha caliente encantadora, el lavabo podía cambiar, pero esto no afectó nuestra estancia. Tenía un desayuno recién preparado encantador cada mañana personal muy amable, un bono adicional fue el aparcamiento gratuito pero debe reservarlo cuando reserve su estancia. con seguridad regresaremos de nuevo.Gracias Trowel y Hammer por una encantadora estadía

Brilliant place to park when shopping in norwich all day parking is only £6 so a bargain and just a 5 minute walk from the city centre. Staff are very friendly here. Food is also very good. Highly recommended place to go for a few drinks, food or both! :)

Bland beer, bland food and when we stayed here not particularly good rooms. Parking is good for City Centre but if you arrive during the afternoon you may not get a space.

Filete muy bien hecho (no medio como había solicitado). Servido con aros de cebolla frita (cómo 70 s). Chips bien sin embargo. Batir la retirada apresurada, dejando a los juerguistas. Mi culpa por aventurarse. . sin embargo, la comida tardó demasiado en llegar y el bistec fue terriblemente exagerado. Eso me aprenderá (como dicen). . . . .

Pub quiz with a difference! Great fun!

Al costado de la carretera principal y justo al salir de la ciudad, es bueno pasar y tomar una cerveza. Un montón de espacios. Las bebidas están bien cuidadas. El domingo almuerzo. Los platos están al rojo vivo y llenos de verduras. La carne está enterrada debajo de la verdura que a su vez está cubierta de salsa de consistencia de emulsión. La salsa es muy espesa pero muy sabrosa. Sería mejor poner la salsa en una salsera o en una lata de pintura para que pueda verterla usted mismo. Nos quedamos justo arriba de la carretera, tanto en la ciudad como en el camino de regreso a la habitación. Bien vale la pena tener en cuenta. Incluso si puedes decir que has visto y probado la salsa.

The most helpful and accommodating staff team running a clean B&B with an excellent pub/restaurant alongside. Well placed to explore Norwich town easily on foot.

Comfortable room and central situation for exploring Norwich . Previous report of poor choice for breakfast has been addressed by the owners, cereals and fruit available each day, eggs done to perfection, and a choice for cooked breakfast if you ask for it. Easy parking, clean towels every day, friendly staff.

Clean and tidy and friendly staff. Only down side is that rooms 1 and 7 share a bathroom at the end of the corridor which was a bit of a pain in the middle of the night. And the kitchen fan came on at 6am and woke me up. Other than that a nice place.

La ubicación es perfecta y está a 5-10 minutos a pie del centro de la ciudad. La habitación era muy buena, limpia, bien presentada y no tengo quejas, aunque el sonido del tráfico puede perturbar el sueño ligero. Me decepcionó el desayuno ya que no hay ninguna variación. Pregunté si atendían a vegetarianos, y la única opción que me ofrecieron fue quitar la salchicha y el tocino, dejando un huevo frito (no hay opción de pochar o revolver) un tomate, frijoles, champiñones, té o café, tostadas y mermelada (no pan integral disponible.) El aparcamiento es muy estrecho ya que alquilan espacios para los trabajadores de la ciudad, pero reservan lugares para los huéspedes. Un poco caro en general, pero no descartaría reservar otra vez debido a la habitación y la ubicación.

Very impressed with choice of menu from very reasonably priced pizzas to larger meals. Food was lovely and hot. Service good and attentive. Venue very inviting and clean.

Very friendly staff. Car park was full but we had asked for a reserved space moved a car so we could park. Room very clean and ensuite. Bed king size and comfortable. On main road but good double glazing reduced traffic noise. Only offered full English for breakfast but it was nice and sufficient.

Went for Sunday Roast, was looking for a place in the city and found this online, great location just up from St Stephens, place was clean and the food was a good selection, we went for Sunday lunch the food was very good and I had read the reviews about the gravy but it’s got to be seen to be believed it is very thick, to thick for me but everyone else in the place was say it’s was the reason they come back, so what do I know

I have heard so much about this place so I called in for Sunday lunch. The place was already busy with plenty of people dining. Great choice of beers and lagers, very friendly staff. The food was amazing, all fresh, cooked in an open kitchen and at only £6.95 or £12 for two, I will definitely be going here more often.

Friendly with good food and excellent quality real ales.

We think that breakfast is available to all though we only saw guests that had stayed overnight having breakfast. The full English was acceptable and filling.

Nice little pub on the outskirts of the city

A rare visit to a pub I used regularly back in the '60s.Off peak visit, so I was the only customer at the time.Friendly reception. Nice art on walls. Good beer reasonably priced.Clearly set up for live music (incidentally, the excellent local band "The Mojo Preachers" performed there last Saturday. I so wanted to go but late night taxis home are not my "bag".Nor is £106 to stay in that Filing Cabinet for People aka the Bus Staion Travelodge.Preposterous. The Travelodge site proclaimed rooms at £46 - Hmmm...It seems the Trowel & Hammer has limited B&B facilities but I did not investigate further.Next time the Mojos are there maybe?

We (me and hubby) visit this pub for Sunday lunch very often whilst shopping in the city. There is always a choice of 4 meats and at £12 for two Sunday roasts, this is damn good value. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. The service is always quick (5 mins wait for your dinner) and now they have Adnams Ghost Ship on tap, what more could you want! Its worth a visit as it is a nice pub.

This is a nice pub-like pub and worth dropping in if one is in the St Stephens area. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the ambience is relaxed and pleasant. The Sunday roast is good value at £12 for two, and the weekday menu offers typical pub food. The place would merit four stars were it not for the drawback that the food is cooked very much to order, which can lead to long delays in service - if one is prepared to take that on board, the environment is recommendable, and the place is always good for a drink!

Maybe not the best place for a meal during the week as can be a little over priced but their Sunday lunches are worth a visit.

Very welcoming staff, lovely clean pub (always a plus), and delicious roast lamb. I have to agree with the previous reviewer who said the gravy was too thick, but apart from that, an exceptional Sunday lunch. Service was swift and very good. Recommended.

Last minute plans on Sunday caused us to put back our plans for cooking dinner so on the way home from the city we decided off the cuff, on passing to give this place a try. Good pint, friendly efficient staff, clean eating area. Food and plates piping hot. Great value £12 for two Sunday lunches. Veg needed a little longer boiling but was very edible and fresh. Will return again. NB kitchen is open plan so it's good to see how clean the chefs work station was.

Popped in for lunch when it was raining. Accommodating in terms of getting the buggy in, but no children's menu and the high chair was dirty. Food was very average and felt pre-packed. I had spag bol which I shared with daughter as there was no child portion. My wife had roast beef with far-too-thick gravy.Not the worst place in the world, but I wouldn't come back.

I've stayed here with my boyfriend for a short break in Norwich. The place is very central, close to the shops and main attractions, very clean and with very helpful and polite staff.Live music on Saturday night was very good. It lasts until midnight so it can be noisy if you go to sleep before this time. Great English breakfast. We had room number 4. Lovely room, with a comfortable bed but pillows were a bit hard. Very spacious bathroom.I would definitely come back!
