If you are in Ipswich and like Chinese food Trongs is a must Great food, nice surroundings and a really good choice of dishes The set menus are good and really well balanced

Had a business meal here with a large group across 3 tables. They served each table individually which had plusses and minuses. We all ate at slightly different times, but I guess each table had the best experience possible with regard to food being hot etc. And the food was first class. I'd say the best chinese meal I've ever had.

Myself and 4 friends went to Trongs yesterday evening after the football. We had the most fantastic dining experience. The staff were fantastic, the food was incredible!!! Will certainly be going back .....

Great venue, very quick service, you only get a couple of hours if you sit early (it's popular) we were a group of 7. 4 of us had set meal D the others ordered individually. We were all stuffed at the end. Great evening and just shy of £40 a head, including drinks. P.S The duck/pancake dish was superb.

Went for my boyfriend's birthday and it was everything and more! We went for set menu G at £32.50pp. After the appetisers and Mongolian lamb wraps, we were already quite full and so barely touched the mains, but they were more than happy to pack them up for us! We both then had the ice cream to finish on a lighter note. The quality of the food was outstanding, I would highly recommend anything that comes with the black bean sauce, but the thing that shocked us the most was how reasonably priced it all was! Will definitely be going back!

Trongs is my go-to for any takeaway or dine in chinese. I have always felt safe eating there with my coeliacs disease and the food is always delicious and well worth the money.

Not been for a while, but really pleased to say this is still one of - if not the best Chinese restaurant we have visited. The way you are treated by staff is a lesson for many other establishments and the food quality is second to none. Cant fault the place the people of the food. Thanks all for a great night.

A Chinese restaurant which can make a wide range of different dishes gluten free, and with awareness of cross contamination. A rare thing in the UK, super rare in East Anglia.

Good range of fish and of good quality both for starters and main. Clean tasting and really good noodles. Enjoyed a lovelly take away with good service there. Not so good service eating in as had dirty plates. Waiter was not keen to help.

Starters amazing, customer service was next level. I am sure the rest of the mains would of been out of this world however they messed up the main Cantonese Style Roast duck. It was my 40th bday and I wanted traditional Cantonese style roast duck on the bone. The duck was insanely dry and missing all flavour. They had really messed up the duck badly and to be fair it shouldn't of been added to the bill as it was a disastrous. However everything else was perfect.

Always made welcome, kind staff and having a personal touch. Food is fresh, tasty and delightful. Worth every penny!

Really cosy, much loved restaurant. I was being treated, and the food was tasty enough We had the Veggie set menu which gives you chance to try different food. Service was great. Not as manic as Mister Wings, and chopsticks here are a given (although you can ask for cutlery). All in all a lovely treat.

Early Friday evening this restaurant was buzzing. Soo pleased we booked. Attentive but not intrusive service. Excellent food. Wish we lived locally. Only one very small niggle as it was very busy the noise increased to a very high level was pleased to be seat on the edge of the main eating area.

Fantastic Chinese food. We have visited so many times and it’s superb every single time! Our favourite dishes are the fried salt and pepper squid and kung pao prawns, but everything is amazing!

Simply fantastic, have been several times and it’s the best Chinese food I’ve ever had, excellent menu, with an added bonus that the food does not leave you feeling sickly after - wonderful! Service is second to none, so attentive and always topping up your water. You truly feel like a valued customer. The only Chinese we would eat at in Ipswich. Thank you Trongs!

We went here on Thursday night after finding it on line with good recommendations . It did not disappoint it was fabulous . The staff were very attentive , we didn’t wait long for the food to arrive . We do go to a lot of Chinese restaurants as this is the food we love and this was probably the best Chinese we have ever had . 👍🏻

Family run Chinese food with a twist. Quality at every turn

Last night was our first visit to Trongs to celebrate Hubby's birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Freshly cooked food served in a lovely restaurant and excellent service by the friendly, welcoming staff. No wonder it was busy for a Monday evening. We will definitely be back!

We took friends to our favourite Chinese. It was as good as always. Fabulous food & service. It seems a family run restaurant with a lot of regular customers.

Third time visiting this fabulous restaurant, never dissapoints, the food is always freshly cooked and hot, the presentation is excellent, the staff are always so helpful and very friendly. I would recomend this littlr gem to anyone

I hate Chinese restuarants, I am always dissapointed. I had my best chinese ever back in 2006 at this place "Trongs" I was invited by a local fertiliser componay and they really looked after us. The meal was fabulous. I have tried to book into this restaurant a few times over the years when we have been near Ipswitch, but always failed because you need to book ahead. Anyway I was in luck last week I rang up and Trong said that they would have rooom as a party had postponed. Alsalutely fabulous food, huge starters and four fabulous main course dishes, we could not finish it, but it was so good. The House Sauvingon Blanc is also fabulous. Thank you Trong for the great service from you an your staff. I've been telling people about our great experience. So I do like Chinese food again now.

We went on a weeknight and were a little apprehensive because of some reviews saying that it wasn't as good as before, but we found it be just as good as ever. The service was excellent and the food was very good (set menus). Some of the sauces and the seaweed are a bit too sweet but lots of others are superb (Tao pan chicken and bean curd in black bean sauce in particular)

I came to Trongs restaurant on 12th May 2023 at 7pm, It wasn't very busy like it used to be. Not quite sure if they have changed hands or have a new chef as the Kung po and Sweet and sour was too sweet & the meat seemed like not fresh and yesterdays. After spending £180 on our bill for 4 people i don't think i will be back very soon! I don't normally make complains but it wasn't what i expected!

This was our first visit and was for our 43rd wedding anniversary, It was the best chinese meal we have had for 30 years, the food and sevice were second to none. We will be back.

We had the chef’s special menu - a spree of surprises - it turned out to be lots of classics covered in thick E-sauces. Shame about the duck, pancakes were cold and prep looked painful. We had two waitresses - one delightful and one who could not master a smile all meal. Sadly she put a real damper to an evening that we found very underwhelming. Will not be coming back.

My daughter and two granddaughters were visiting and I decided to give Trongs a try. The restaurant is quite small. The wait staff are totally unobtrusive. Everything is done quietly and efficiently. Now to the food. We thought it was fabulous. There are a number of set meals starting at around £29 per head. We had several starters, and main dishes plus dessert. Well worth a visit. My girls are still talking about it.

Last visited in September and was hoping to visit again before now but wow, food was equally amazing and staff were just fabulous. Such a warm welcome and definitely our favourite Chinese restaurant. If you have not visited before I’d definitely recommend.

This has been one of my favourite restaurants for years. The quality is exceptional and it is consistently excellent. This latest visit was no exception. The staff are welcoming and engaging. The food is always quick to arrive, no matter what you choose from their extensive menu. I can highly recommend.

Not that warm a welcome really as they seemed like they were expecting a busy night so they we’re in work mode! One exception was a lovely waitress who smiled a lot. Food was average except for the delicious toffee apple with sesame which was highlight of meal yum Too much MSG was used in veggie soup which was thick and tasteless My sizzling fish dish was certainly sizzling but it was a gooey mess of MSG covered prawns & squid - thank goodness I ordered the ginger & spring onion to help the flavour along. Stir fried beef with satay sauce was stir boiled beef!! Overall average food - disappointing overall!

Yesterday was my second visit to Trong's. Though I turned up rather spontaneously and didn't have a dinner reservation, I was given a time that a table would be ready. Upon returning, a table was swiftly granted served with water immediately. I rarely visit the same restaurant twice. The setting and the staff are so welcoming, it made me want to return. I tried the Vietnamese Spring Rolls (fried) and the taste was far beyond my expectations. I truly recommend these: The spring roll melts in the mouth on bite and taste oozes from every bite thereafter. They were so good I tried to ask for the secret from the man I believe to be the manager/owner. He revealed the story of the delicacy... it was his mother's recipe, it was a satisfying to hear such an honest answer with so much history. During my stay in Ipswich and visiting multiple restaurants - Trong's provide the best quantity and quality for the price you are paying. The family nature of the staff truly makes this a comforting experience serving comfort food whilst I am far from home.

We had the chefs choice which included gorgeous starters, mains and dessert. I am allergic to shellfish so couldnt have the spring rolls, Lucy brought me some vegetable spring rolls out instead so I didnt feel I was missing out. They are constantly filling your glass up, which was another lovely touch... dont think I poured myself a glass of wine at all. Even with a full restaurant you always feel your a priority. Honestly amazing and already planning a return... well done Trongs!! Also what's nice about the takeaway service is if they are busy (which they usually are!!! So make sure you book early) they won't take any more orders as they pride themselves on good food and don't want to risk it being of poor standard because they are busy.... says a lot to me!! 100% you've got to dine in and experience this gorgeous restaurant!!

Well unfortunately on this occasion we both was very seriously sick after visit on a Monday night 26 September, we was up all night being sick and feeling seriously bad, I have never had a bad experience here ever, I do not know why on this occasion, I have been for over 30 years to this fantastic restaurant, never had any issues, we had pork beef and chicken , was super sweet and all tasted similar, schezwan beef is normally quite spicy, but not like it normally is this time , a real shame for me to have to report this, the owner was his usual fantastic self super lovely self, cau I think he’s name ,I never remember names much. I hope this is just a one off experience

This was a lovely meal in Ipswich. Very centrally located, the staff could not have been more friendly. The menu is enormous and likely requires many visits before tasting everything. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a meal in Ipswich.

Just came back from Trongs and what an experience it was. Absolutley gorgeous food along with very friendly and attentive owners. The food was delicious and by far the nicest Chinese I've been to, will definitely be returning!

Phoned and booked a table for a Friday night. Staff were very helpful and accommodated us even though they were busy. Friendly greeting in arrival and shown to our to table. We had one of the set menus and it was delicious and hot. Nice...

We had the most amazing meal served by Foo and his staff whom we had known for many years , in particular seeing Foo again was great and catching up. We celebrated Paul’s birthday yesterday evening 3.5.2022 with superb food it can’t be praised enough ! with the overwhelming generosity of my brother and sister in law. for the past 26 years i have been frequenting Trongs, it never gets boring. Fu and the team are most welcoming no matter how busy they are, as was last night 31/3/22. I took some clients there and to their amazement, i requested that we leave the dishes and selection up to Fu, He didn't disappoint! AMAZING FOOD, 4 courses. Mixed Starter selection, Crispy duck, array of mains about 8 of them and then finished with fresh deserts and coffees. The taste buds were bouncing off the walls, nothing is too much trouble. It just seems to get better and better. As for the comment on another review about cost. If you want cheap Chinese go get a takeaway! This is a class restaurant with class owners and class food, worth every penny and i travel 32 miles each way to eat here. Keep up the great service Fu and family. See you all soon

As the title says, very busy at all times but the food is superb. Chow meins, rice, crispy duck, soups.. Standout for me was the salt&chilli squid/chicken. Quick service and smiling staff.

A bit skeptical ordering here because my family used to ordering Chinese takeaway in other Chinese restaurant, but yesterday they let me do the task of ordering food as we have guests coming in, upon reading good reviews from this restaurant, I thought I would give it go, I'm asian and I'm fussy about asian food. I called, the lady in the other end was really nice. Picked up the food, and was greeted with a nice welcoming vibe, restaurant was lovely and packed! Went home, had dinner and everybody agreed that it was way better than what we usually had in other Chinese takeaway. I don't usually leave comments but I thought, this is my way of thanking Trongs for giving me the closest best asian food I could get near me. Everything was simply divine, food wise, price wise and service wise. Planning to celebrate our special occasion in this restaurant. Will definitely our Chinese takeaway from now on. Highly recommended!!

The food was just gorgeous at Trongs today. Authentic and rich in flavour across the board. Service was friendly by the team and the owner. Staff were attentive and brought water to the table automatically. It is a shame they do not do larger sizes in soft drinks. Also I had asked for items such as a straw for the drink or cutlery and this was forgotten. The toilets although compact did the job. I would still however recommend and visit again given the minor flaws noted today. Free parking after 18:00 using the car park opposite the location.
