A real gem for a quick lunch bite. I went there with my family and everyone loved the salads, soup, ciabatta and quiche. Service is really top notch. The friendly owner even brought me a complimentary almond cake as my ciabatta took a few minutes. Such a lovely touch. Well worth a visit.

This is just a sandwich shop .we've walked ages to get here based on breakfast reviews. There is no breakfast. Just crusty dry sandwiches. Disappointed

Service is simply excellent here, the chicken salad is super healthy and perfect but wish they had soup on the menu. Sandwiches were not bad

Quiche (mushroom) had none of the classic flavour of cheese, it was a mere egg white and mushroom blancmage, under flavoured. The salad dressing was too sweet. Craving a good ol quiche… this doesn’t cut it.

Incredible staff and great food!

Food is simple but not bad by any measure. It's the atmosphere and the personnel that make this place a must-go. Extremely cute place where you'll happily relax for an hour. We had a couple ciabattas that were served nice and warm. The mango-pineapple smoothies we had tasted as if they were thinned with water.

I randomly entered to ask where Cambridge University's green area was. I later realized that it was a very stupid question, but the restaurant owner Özlem explained without any arrogance that the whole city was a university. Her English was so smooth that I didn't realize she was Turkish. Even though she was very busy, she told me at length and quickly where I needed to go, even showing me pictures on her mobile phone. As I went out and walked with my wife and daughter as she described, I told my wife that the girl was probably Turkish because she was very friendly and helpful. At that moment, when my daughter started whining that she was hungry, my wife said, "Let's go back to that restaurant immediately." As a matter of fact, when we entered and heard my daughter's whining, Özlem and her friend (I'm sorry, I couldn't learn her name) answered in Turkish. My guess was correct! Their sandwiches are very fresh and delicious. The owners are incredibly natural and friendly. The majority of customers are young people. Of course, the price/performance is amazing, we should not be surprised. I bought a take-away sandwich on the way out, we chatted a little, it was very busy but it was very pleasant, we didn't want to keep anyone busy. Later we noticed that, thanks to dear Özlem, there was a free dessert next to the sandwich and a smiley note wishing love and a safe trip. I can't tell you how warm we felt. The owner is so friendly - and genuine. The coffee is fantastic, as are the cakes!!! The panini's are gorgeous but what makes it is the wonderful owner.

Visited twice now, busy cafe at lunch time with regular clients, wonderful and friendly owner, and just great fresh food at such good value.

As someone who studies almost exclusively in cafes across Cambridge, this is by far the most friendly and welcoming. The owner is so kind, even offering to top up my drink during a particularly stressful couple of hours before a deadline, and while it's a lovely place to read and study, it's also very family friendly, with a really diverse range of customers. The food is well priced, and the coffees are large! I couldn't recommend this place more.

Choices were limited for lunch when we arrived despite it being before 1pm. What we had was nice, but we needed more of it, for the price.

The absolute best. My friend and I like to go weekly. The drinks are amazing and the shopowner is the sweetest. Amazing inside decor too, love the flowers

Amazing gem in Cambridge. Very well priced lunch/brunch menu, with cakes and snacks too. Owner is lovely and chatty, very friendly and safe atmosphere. We had toasted panini sandwiches with chicken, chorizo and halloumi. Would visit again to try more of the menu, it all looked delicious :)

A real hidden gem, though you wouldn't know it, it's always really busy. Fantastic friendly service from the owner and her assistant, always pleased to see you and with a welcoming smile on her face. What a beautiful, quaint, cozy little cafe, although simple, what they offer is absolutely delicious homemade food, friendly service, snug atmosphere, I'm a chef of 25 years and I am really impressed with this place. Far better than high street chains and definitely recommend

Stopped in for a lunch after exploring Cambridge, and was pleasantly surprised by just how amazing this cafe is. Not only is the food great and fresh, the woman serving us, who I believe owns the cafe, was incredibly kind and welcoming. You can tell she really loves what she does, not only does she greet every customer with a smile but she knows the people she served, as she made conversation with regulars. We came back here again the next day because of how amazing this place is. I highly recommend it.

The most warm, friendly little coffee shop. The baguettes were very good too. One of the only places we come across that would accept cash also. Highly recommend stopping for some quality caffeine and a bite to eat.

My home countriy is famous for its hospitality, but she would be the champion instantly if she ran a branch there. (Please note that I am a serious person who never exaggerates anything nor tell any lies) Chai Latte was very fresh and sweet. I really liked the scent of it. The Iced Americano was flawless. (Though please take the fact that I got it as single shot and iced, so I can not evaluate its taste precisely into account) I really wanted to try other menus, but pity that I was running on a tight schedule. I never know when I would visit this country again, but if I do, I will definitely visit Cambridge city and of it, especially this particular cafe to check out other menus. Also the price was very reasonable. I really like the fact that this place is a bit away from the crowded, main street of Cambridge, packed with tourists. I was able to observe the daily life of residents from around in peace. Back in Korea, I drank a cup of coffee daily. I would always ask for a single-shot coffee instead of double, though the price were the same. (because even if you want only a single-shot coffee, the coffee machine will only produce 2 shots and no less. Eventually the barista would have to discard the other shot of coffee.) It was the first time in my life that I had a discount for ordering asingle-shot coffee. Lastly, please note that I do not underrate my home country. As I mentioned above, I only speak of the raw fact that I have witnessed.

This independent coffee shop makes a pleasant change from the many Neros etc in Cambridge. It's been there in Pembroke Street for many years. I went there once a long time ago and liked it, but never returned until recently. I've now been twice in a fortnight, and I'm sure I'll go again. I haven't sampled any meals, but have enjoyed cakes from their range with soft drinks. Cold drinks are served properly cold - an obvious point but one which many cafés and restaurants overlook. I also like the fact that they're in cans. So many places force us to buy 500ml bottles, more than I ever want. Stools by the window allow glimpses of the outside world. All of the above is nice, but it's not what makes it a special place. Its main attribute is that it's extremely welcoming and feels almost like visiting friends, yet without any feeling of intrusiveness.

We went in here late on Monday afternoon to get some much needed sustenance, after several hours in the nearby Sedgwick Museum. The lady was very welcoming, friendly and helpful, not only to myself and my daughter, but with the other customers who came in. The mozzarella, tomato and pesto ciabatta I had was really delicious and the cup of tea was excellent; in fact the best cup of tea I've had in a cafe in a long time. The price was very reasonable too. I will definitely be returning on subsequent trips to the museums. The only thing I would change is for a seat with a back, as I found the breakfast bar stools rather high and hard to sit on, but I understand they are for space saving. Perhaps some cushions please 🙂

I regularly come into Trockel for coffee and sometimes cake, both of which are always amazing and well-priced for a Cambridge coffee shop in such a great location. When I do sit-in, the atmosphere is always lovely, making it a great place to both work and catch up with friends. The best part of the experience, however, is Özlem, who runs the café and is always a delight to interact with. She is always extremely warm and friendly, and I never cease to be amazed at how she immediately recognises me and her many other repeat customers, addresses us individually by name, and remembers our regular orders. This is by far my favourite café in Cambridge, and I would recommend to everyone.

Excellent cake, tasty veggie pasties and good coffee, without fail served with a smile. A tiny place, but a favourite haunt of students and University workers alike. The owner's just lovely, too - always incredibly friendly. A good place for an afternoon coffee or a quick bite for lunch; I paid £6.30 for two coffees and a (highly recommended) blackcurrant and yogurt flapjack.

Child unfriendly cafe. My toddler made a little noise sitting down for about 2 minutes while I ordered food as he was excited to see his family member and the woman running the cafe was quite rude about it. My child is so well behaved and sat on the uncomfortable chair with no issues as they don’t have child seats, but their attitude towards children is extremely negative. Won’t be going there for my work lunches any more and will be telling my colleagues about it too.

Food is ok but its very expensive and the sandwiches are tiny. The soup is 7 pounds for some red lentil soup which is just too much! I've been going here since 2012 when the Gemrna owners kept the costs low but now it's more of a yubbie cafe, not worth the extortionate prices.

Absolutely lovely independent cafe - can't recommend it highly enough! I went for brunch and had an amazing chai latte - best one in a long while - and a brie and bacon panini - hot and melting and quickly prepared and served. It was so good that I went back a few hours later and had another chai latte and 2 lots of flapjack - one was apple and blackberry and the other was coconut - which were both excellent. The lady serving was lovely and so friendly and helpful - it was a top quality experience. 100% recommend!

Staeting with a warm welcome from Özlem and colleagues there is the opportunity to feast on a wonderful menu, something tasty for everyone. Should you be spoilt for choice Özlem forever attentive is on hand. All in all a perfect excuse to return
