Very cold. In fact diners had their coats on. Varied menu. Starters of mackerel salad and arancini were good but very big portions. Main courses not so good. Pork with apple sauce and cider sauce was the best although luke warm. Fish had a mound of potatoes and tomatoes which were bland. 'beet' bourgignon was just a pile of vegetables with bizarrely stuffed mushrooms and a vegetable gravy and just way too much food which was offputting

High quality food great service. Definitely worth a return visit.

The best restaurant in Taunton!!! Each dish is prepared with care for a beautiful presentation and a unique taste in flavors. The menu is limited but changes several times a year and that’s what makes good products. All this has a price 😉

Lovely restaurant, much bigger than expected from outside. I had the fish, and it was absolutely delicious 😋 . Highly recommend the place. I rated 3 for the atmosphere because the kitchen smells came into the restaurant, and some smoke as well. My clothes were smelling fried food after 2 hours in the restaurant. It wasn't really pleasant. I understand the kitchen is really tiny but in a huge need of an extractor! Next time, I'll sit further away from the kitchen.

Amazing food ...totally out of this world...beautiful flavours , cooked to perfection ....lovely people....can't wait to go back and try a different dish each time ...an excellent evening with friends....

Friendly service and great value food.

My recent visit to Tristans in Taunton left me with an unforgettable dining experience, especially with their 16oz T-bone steak. Cooked to perfection and accompanied by a massive onion ring, this carnivore's dream surpassed all expectations. The steak's balance of tenderness and flavour was simply remarkable, making every bite a true delight. Tristans certainly knows how to please steak enthusiasts with this dish. What caught my attention next was the unique presentation of the cheesecake in a glass. Despite initial reservations, I couldn't resist trying it, and I'm glad I did. The taste was absolutely delicious, proving that appearances can be deceiving. Tristans' innovative approach to dessert left me impressed and satisfied.

A big group of us visited Tristan’s for a 75th birthday celebration. It’s always lovely to get the family together but unfortunately our night was not that enjoyable. We were seated in the back room which was fine, as mentioned we were a big group, the only thing was it was freezing in there and both my elderly grandparents ate their whole meal in their coat and scarves. The other thing was as this room was at the end of the long corridor, which you had to walk past the serving hatch to get to, the smell of grease seemed to waft towards us. This was very off putting when trying to eat. I have coeliac disease so must follow a strict gluten free diet, we had to do a pre-order which I made clear I needed to be GF. I emailed with the restaurant to discuss my options and they said they would be able to mix and match some of the items on the menu. This was also confirmed on the telephone when pre-ordering. Upon getting to the restaurant and having our food served, I was given something that obviously contained gluten (some grains) along side salad leaves and halloumi. I questioned this with the waiter who told me it wasn’t GF and that he would go and get me a replacement. They had obviously just removed the grains and put the leaves and halloumi back on the plate. I said to them that this wasn’t even what I ordered, I spoke to the chef who grunted at me he was never told, eventually after everyone else had finished eating, I got my main that I had ordered. For puddings, the waiter said to me they had my DAIRY FREE pudding all ready for me… as someone with dietary requirements, it can be really unnerving to go to places and eat for the first time. For the staff to not understand or take it seriously is just not good enough, you shouldn’t have to question every single thing you are served. Needless to say, an upset tummy was had for the next few days. Then it came to paying...they had added things on to our bill that we hadn’t even ordered. Overall not a great experience and to be honest with you, I very much doubt we will be back.

Loved this restaurant, tucked away and I didn't know it existed but it knocked my socks off. Lovely atmosphere and really romantic in the back with fairy lights. The food was absolutely spot on and we've tried to go back but it has been booked solid

The work Christmas meal 🎄 A pre-ordered dinner for 14 of us. I absolutely loved how this wasn't your average set Christmas menu. Some really quirky dishes on offer. (Swipe for a glance at the menu). I ordered the risotto, which was missing the egg, but the enormous bhaji made up for it 😍 it was very tasty. The crème brulé for pud was also 👌, however I'm not sure why it came with some shop bought meringue 🤔 The order: 2 courses for £26 3 courses for £33 📅 Visited in December 2023

I really hope the belly pork on the festive menu is kept on next year's menu as I can't wait to go back and have it again. It was truly the best belly pork I've had in a long time and the crackling on top was superb! The restaurant is much longer than you would think from the outside as there is a big room at the back for large parties. We had a lovely work Christmas lunch here, the staff were fantastic, checking we were ok for drinks, the décor was lovely and the atmosphere was great. If you haven't been here before, I highly recommend you check Tristan's out, it's one of the best restaurants in Taunton!

I love this place! The food is always amazing with a constantly updating menu, the wine selection is great and the service is impeccable. I'd give it a 1000 stars if I could.

A real gem. Food quality and service second to none. Fillet steak and portobello mushroom delicious. Wife asked she could have an omelette and they obliged with no hesitation.

Friendly staff,Beautiful little place that's like the tardis with hidden space at the back. Food was unbelievably good. It was a set menu but me and my husband shared abit of eachothers so we could try more. Would definitely recommend for food.

Brilliant food, Brilliant service. There was a party of 8 behind us that were distractingly loud, discussing bizarrely contentious issues, LOUDLY. This is not the restaurant's fault, however it meant we left earlier than we would have normally.

What a wonderful meal at Tristans! Their winter menu is divine. I had the belly pork and its one of the best I've had, I really wanted to lick my playe clean but kept it together! My partner had the turkey and that was so tasty. Super quick friendly service, great offer on two or three courses

My friend and I meet here a handful of times a year (halfway from Exeter and Bristol) and we're always so impressed by the service and food. Last night's mains (ox cheek and pork) were amazing and we love the cheesecake too. It's great how the menu changes so we can look forward to new things each time. Honestly worth the travel for the wonderful food and we're well looked after by the team (thank you!)

First class bistro. Went here with friends and we all had a fabulous evening. Food was cooked to perfection, staff friendly and attentive without being intrusive and prices very reasonable especially for the quality of food. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back

Really impressed with the food here especially my starter which was ham hock. Definitely will return, staff were great too.

An unfortunate choice. We shant be returning as our first impression was poor. Poor quality ingredients, fatty and tough steak, strange super sweat burger dressing and a 'portion' of chips (I received 6 small chips served in a coffee cup)! Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it.

Set in quite a quaint and small setting, although the charm wears thin when you can't physically get legs under table. The food was unexciting and sadly not very nice, wouldn't rate or return.

Really good food, nice variety of options. Service was super speedy and staff were all friendly and helpful. Good value fixed price menu. Easy to park on East Reach, but that is evening- dependent I presume. We were there on a Thursday and it was really busy, clearly a popular choice for people.

We we for dinner 22nd Feb and as always Tristan was absolutely fabulous all the way from pre dinner drinks through to desert. My fave place to eat. Well done Georgie and team.

Went for the first time 19-06-21. Excellent! Partner had the Sea Bass and I had the Sirloin. Cooked to perfection. Reasonably priced and excellent quality. Very friendly and efficient staff. Thank you for a lovely evening. Highly recommended.

Had many meals out here as a couple or with groups of friends over the years. A good menu that I think provides something for everyone. Always been impressed with the food and drink and will definitely be back again. Would also say that after a recent visit the staff are still providing friendly, efficient service despite the complication of covid regulations :)

Friday 29th November 2019. First visit to Tristans. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir and some olives to begin proceedings. Really good. Then some grilled brie and mushrooms on ciabatta followed by one main of lamb shank and one of stuffed pepper. For dessert we both had an amazingly good cheesecake. Everything was very, very good. Service excellent. Ambience very convivial. We will be back!!

The food is exceptional. I had a 3 course meal. Every single mouthful just melted in my mouth and I believe it is all locally sourced. They kept the drinks flowing so no one's glass was empty. The staff were amazing. I will definitely be going back.
