Trio mezze tapas bar in York

Just back, visited earlier this afternoon for special on refreshing cocktails, £11 for 2 Aperol Sprizt on this sunny afternoon. Secret roof top terrace upstairs. Lovely ambience, great music that was chill. Decided to come back later for food. It did not disappoint, the staff were incredible, friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend..

Had hot drinks and cake. The service was very good, friendly and polite. Would highly recommend as the best place we've found in York.

We had some small starters and two steak sandwiches from the lunch menu. The food came with very little presentation, the steak was about a centimeter thin and was leather hard, the “sourdough” bread felt more like toast bread. The service was okay although not very enthusiastic. The toilets ran out of soap. Would not recommend this place!Within two minute walk you could get much better restaurants.

Visiting York for the holidays... Booked Trio on a wim but we certainly weren't disappointed! As a family of 3 our daughter was turning 9 we were looking forward to a birthday eve dinner. My husband and I had the set menu which was delicious and reasonably priced. I had the 241 cocktails that were most delicious! Staff very friendly, pleasant and helpful. Definitely recommend x

We didn't have to wait long, service was good and the quality of food was lovely. Prices are reasonable for York standards.

Lovely little spot that's very welcoming. Good cake and coffee. Can't ask for more. It has a few seats outside as well and it's nicely decorated.

One staff member was particularly rude and lacked any sort of manners- not even a please or thank you. Was very abrupt. Not professional at all. The food was average, nothing special.

Wow. Hidden gem. Staff were amazing, made to feel right at home. Had Turkish coffee which was top class then we decided to have lunch in the sun. Nikki had steak on sour dough, which was a quality steak cooked perfectly. I had the Turkish Kofte, these were perfectly cooked and juicy. Great prices for the location. We WILL be retuning. Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome. See you soon.

Ordered a flat white. Wasn't nice. Watery and too hot. Didn't taste like fresh beans. Much better places in York for a coffee. It is a nice spot in the sun to sit though.

Perfect place for a light lunch that's a little different from the usual menu selection. Chicken skewers were really good too. Would definitely come again next time in York.

Ordered 2 steaks off the main menu, arrived with no presentation, fatty, grissely steak very thin, more like frying steak. A few fries and some leaves. Tiny portion. Didn't even get a steak knife. Was probably the worst steak and food I've ever had in a restaurant. I would not recommend this place and I would not return. They also charge an extra £3.50 on your bill for gratitude tip. AVOID!

Visited for a morning coffee before touring the city . Was expecting a better coffee, not pleasant ! Tasted scorched and not very good quality.

4 of us ate but had different experiences. I had steak for £17. It was poor. Small size too much fat and gristle and thin. Small portion of chips and some salad. Not impressed at all. Husband got beef bourginion ..supposed to come on a bed of mashed potatoes and accompanied by veg. Smallest portion ever of beef which was dried and very little potatoe...no veg at all. We did complain and got £2 off ..Big deal. He was hungry so did eat but really!! Bottle of wine £25....OK but not worth the cost. Burger and skewers were OK. Service was good. Would not go again as food was poor. We had to eat again at pub with cheese board. Give it a miss!!!!

Good food and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The specials were very tasty. Steak sandwich was nice, the chips were good. The only problem was I could have done with more. Good cocktails and two for one on the same cocktail.

Enjoyed a group get together. Staff very obliging . Daily specials gave us all a choice for food.

Very quiet Friday early evening, staff attentive food very fast and mediocre , and quite bland !

We had a lovely afternoon coffee break. The owner is simply the nicest host, and welcomed us warmly despite of our rather tired and moody toddler. He even cheered her up with a little chocolate cake. We appreciated the kindness and enjoyed the strong and delicious coffee. Our older daughter loved the shortbread. The location is ideal for sightseeing, so close to the Shambles and Minster. The prices are refreshingly fair. We will definitely visit again.

Very attentive and friendly staff. The food and drinks were also very good. What really irritated us was the 10% service fee that was added to the bill. In other English restaurants we didn't have this fee on the bill.

I popped into the cafe section of Trio on a very cold and busy Saturday morning. There was a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere and the staff were lovely. Quite small in area but a very good use of the available space using a mix of cushion bench style and ordinary chairs around small tables; some brave souls sat outside where there was a similar amount of seating. I ordered an Americano with oat milk; this was brought across to my table and was a really good size cup of quality coffee. Cakes/ sweet treats on the counter all looked tasty. No toilets in this section but was sent across to the main restaurant area where the toilets are located on the first floor. Steps up into the cafe bar and not much space inside so not suitable for wheelchair access.

Went yesterday for a meal with the family. Unfortunately a large disappointment. The portion sizes we extremely small, the food was cold and for the prize, very underwhelming!!!

Front of house staff were superb. Attentive, polite and knowledgeable. Perfect. Unfortunately the food did not compare. The balsamic flatbread was more oil than balsamic. The pasta was over cooked. The beef bourguignon was placed on cold mashed potato. The yorkshire pudding was more pancake than pudding. Overall a disappointment!

Came here for a meal a few months ago. The food was below par for the price, paying £12 for a single chicken schnitzel with a few salad leaves on the side the same for a tiny steak with an even smaller egg on top, sides sold separately. We also had to chase up bread that came with some of the meals. I won't be coming back for the food but the drinks were nice.

We have been coming to Trio for 2 days. The chef's food is really delicious. Those who come to York should definitely stop by and eat "Turkish Beef Koftas". The flavour is excellent. Also the atmosphere inside and the crew are great. Thank you very much for everything.🍀☘️

The food was delicious, the was attentive but not in your face all the time, very chilled & laid back atmosphere. Didn't feel rushed at all.

Just had a meal here . Had the chicken skewers and hubby had the homemade burger, it was absolutely lovely and fresh and could tell it was all homemade . Would highly recommend & we can’t wait to return 😍

Food portions not great but good quality. Wine (with discount) well priced. The best thing about this place was that the tall stools were so ergonomically well designed that they cured my miserable mate's bad back!

Food was very disappointing Husband had the special sirloin steak poached egg and salad, more like beef ham salad was a few bits of lettuce. Had to order side portion of chips at cost. I took chicken burger again few salad leaves very small portion of coleslaw and 6 chips. Very very poor.

Nice but modest portions, to be expected for the price though. eg ribs were a quarter rack I'd say. Not a bad 2 meals for set price so need to balance it with that.

Our server was amazing super friendly and helpful with allergies only downside was the bar tender was a bit moody and was arguing with the server when she was trying to check for if there was any nuts in some of the dishes as it wasn't shown on the menus, food was otherwise good but smallish portions

Ordered steak and poached egg, no size indicated, tiny overdone steak of poor quality, poached egg was hard as nails Mussels described with garlic broth, turned up with basically Heinz tomato soup, absolutely disgusting, was advised it was a typical Turkish sauce (laugh) - it was Heinz tomato soup, Young staff chap was cocky and not bothered about the quality of our meals Don’t waste your money or time here in beautiful York, plenty of other establishments that give both quality service and quality meals Go there at your peril !

My friends and I recently came here, and had a tapas style dinner as we weren’t that hungry. The food was mediocre at best, with the ribs being cold, and the skewers being skimpy on the chicken and calamari not tasting fresh at all. Although the food was sub par, the staff were really lovely and kind, and I’m sure it would be a good place for drinks!

Had a really lovely meal here this evening. The food was delicious. Rarely choose steak but this combo with poached egg and mixed leaf salad made me very glad I had. The staff friendly and the right level of attentive. Definitely coming back when next in York.

Food was good but small sizes, problem was trying to take our plates away whilst we were still eating and not just one occasion several times this happened even with the starters- my wife was eating and the staff came up and took the plate. Just unprofessional and made us feel like they wanted us out s as quick as possible

Visited on a really quiet Saturday. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately, my daughters chicken arrived and after eating a third of it, she noticed the middle was completely raw. We were offered a replacement/ something else but she declined as she felt wary. We had a voucher off York Mix so used the remaining balance to order desserts which were lovely. We then paid the bill and left. It was only when I checked later that I noticed they had applied the service charge to the full amount, as opposed to the amount post voucher deduction. I feel this is a very scheming way to get more service charge. I wish I had checked because given the raw nature of the dinner, I feel it should have been removed anyway. We won't be returning. I have called and expressed my annoyance with the staff but they seem very unapologetic. I've given the 2 stars for the drinks and desserts.

We didn’t eat in but the cocktails were great! The Aperol spritz was the best we’ve had in a long time and the pink spritz tasted amazing! Lovely cafe in an excellent location!

Lovely eatery with n the famous ‘Whip Ma Whop Ma Gate’. Small plates and specials available. Dietary requirements catered to well. A little pricey but well worth paying for. I’ve been here twice on separate visits and will return next time I am in York.

Nice restaurant, excellent service. Food below average. Portions were small - we had the pasta of the day which was garlic shrimp linguine and chicken skewers with tzatziki and chips. The tzatziki was not original Greek tzatziki, had absolutely no garlic at all so better not call it tzatziki. The portions were small and we left being still hungry. One the positive side though the aperol spritz was one of the best we had and it's 2-4-1 at £13.95.

Amazing cocktails . Ribs were incredible

No atmosphere. We ordered a 241 cocktail where it seems that they use one measure of alcohol between the two cocktails they were basically just fruit juice and ice. The Gents toilet is so small if having to use the cubicle then you have to step over the toilet to try and close the the door.

The roof terrace was great. The food was amazing and fairly well priced. Service was excellent, didn’t check in too much but there to help with any questions. No complaints at all.

Trio Kitchen and Bar, located in the heart of York city, delivered an amazing dining experience. The kofta, chicken skewers, and beef burger were all exceptional, showcasing flavorful and well-prepared dishes. Highly recommend

Loved this place. The food was excellent and the staff were so attentive … bringing fresh napkins … bringing clean cutlery before requesting it after it had been dropped on the floor … they were so on the ball. I live in California but if I’m ever back in York I will definitely be back.

It was a lovely meal, we had a great time. New menu is amazing by the way.

My wife and I had an early lunch today at Trio .From the first moment we were warmly greeted with a big smile by a cheerful young man, Mat , the owner’s son who sat us at a table near the window. The restaurant was spotless with a very pleasant ambiance . The lunch menu had extensive selections of food and drinks to suit everyone. We opted to have fish dinner with potatoes and vegetables which was delicious. This was followed by Turkish dessert and coffee. We spent nearly a couple of hours relaxing and had a very nice chat with Mat who eventually escorted us to the door with a warm handshake. It was such a pleasant experience that we decided to return back for evening dinner soon.

Visited on a quiet evening and had great service and tapas! Loved everything we tried - prawns, squid, arancini.

Absolutely great place for a light lunch or evening meal. Lovely restaurant, nice atmosphere. First class service by warm and professional staff. Just calling in for a small shared lunch. Both favourite lagers on tap, absolutely brilliant.

Words cannot describe it, you have to come, see and experience it. I can say that I have never seen the hospitality here anywhere else.

Absolutely incredible experience. The restaurant has recently brought in a new chef and a new menu too. Me and my partner were both extremely surprised at just how beautiful the food was. We had the chefs recommended dishes. Our filet mignon were cooked to perfection.

Food was very nice but definitely recommend you dont have alcohol with your meal. Prices are beyond ridiculous - single Gin £9 & mixers £2+ Order tap water for the table and drink elsewhere!

Went to grab some lunch with my baby and family, waitress was rude and not very friendly at all. Got told off for letting my baby crawl in the empty restaurant, with her saying it’s for “insurance purposes”. I ordered the chicken skewers which were £18.95, and it was literally just 3 skewers and little bit of bulgar rice, absolute rip off. Took ages to come as well. DO NOT GO HERE!!

Beautiful and charming spot in York! Near the Shambles and with a very welcoming atmosphere. I went there because I got a recommendation and a discount at the York Gin store and I was not disappointed at all. Food was amazing, just the right amount of it for a two course meal (I am not big on dessert). Dishes’ presentation was fabulous and they tasted great! The lovely lad that attended to my table was very friendly and made suggestions that were spot on. The Chicken casserole special was to die for! He explained the menu and even accommodated my request for a G&T using a York Gin that was not in the menu for the usual G&T cocktail. I felt at easy and had an enjoyable meal! Strongly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent service and great food. They made me an espresso martini even though it wasn’t on the menu, the waitress was patient and professional, kept a good attitude even being asked a lot of questions by my mom about the food and drinks. We had a good time here, good drinks, delicious food and tasty desserts. 100% recommend this place!

On the expensive side, but it is definitely elevated cuisine so justified. Absolutely delicious, lovely decor and atmosphere with soft background music, friendly staff. Great coffee too!

On our first night in York, we were lucky to find this place. At the time it was partly hidden by some road works but I was glad that we were hungry enough not to let that bother us. The food and service were very good. Although it was not all Spanish Tapas the mix of dished that we had were all cooked beautifully. If we had more time in York we would have gone again.

So I only got hummus and the Panchanga because I want to save the rest of the menu for another evening, but MY GOD, what an amazing evening. The food was fresh, delicious and well presented. The hummus was probably the best I've ever had. And I've had homemade hummus from several different Labanese families. I would never tell them it was better, but I'll tell you! Just extraordinary! The Panchanga is supposedly the house favorite and for good reason. The filo was light and crispy and added such a wonderful crunch to the slightly spicy chorizo and mozzarella that the portion provided always seemed too small. I didn't want it to end. The salad accompaniment combined with the lemon was the perfect combination to create a flavor profile I have not yet discovered in England. The wine suggestion was equally precise to complete an outstanding and balanced meal. I have to say that this was probably the best meal I have had in England since I arrived a month ago. If you don't find yourself having dinner at Trio in York you will find yourself missing out on the way food should be presented, served, and prepared. Do yourself a favor and make a date with Trio!

Absolutely fabulous food and professional & freindly service. Genuine family run restaurant with a wide range of food.. more of a Mezze now than tapas.. best humous ive ever eaten. We were having a family celebration so we spent quite a bit but you can eat and drink comfortably on a modest budget. Quality authentic food. Well worth a visit, so much so we have booked to go again in a few weeks with some freinds

Really not good for a family. Avoid if you have children with you. Very expensive as well. Menu was very unclear. Staff were nice and food came out fairly quick. Wouldn't go again.

The food was terrible, the steak was under seasoned and didn’t have any redeeming factors. The chicken I also ordered was salty with no taste. The only reason I didn’t give the food 1 star is because of the fries, they were crunchy with fluffy insides, they were amazing. The service was ok, it was confusing and messy. The atmosphere was also ok, the people there seemed tired and annoyed in general.

Called in to trio,s today had a lovely meal and drinks if you are in York call in you will not be disappointed

Very sad to come here to find Mehmet absent and on holiday, but well made up for by our charming hostess, Tatiana! We'll be back next month to catch up with the most amazing entrepreneur in the hospitality industry and hopefully Tatiana too! PS, food up to usual standards or in other words, fantastic.

What a lucky find! A gem of a place hidden in plain sight in Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate! If you haven’t tried their new menu and are looking for fresh and authentic taste of the Mediterranean then step inside, or if you prefer, dine in their new roof top terrace. You will be met with a warm welcome, and impeccable service at this family run restaurant, who take customer satisfaction seriously. I had the Pan fried Seabass, onion chutney, basil pesto, fresh leaf salad on toasted sourdough, cooked to perfection, I’m already looking forward to tasting it again on my next visit. Cocktails and a well stocked bar add to a very enjoyable experience. But, shhh, don’t tell everyone or I won’t be able to get a table.

Visited by chance after a sudden downpour caught us off guard, thankfully seating was in good supply around lunch. Food and service were both excellent and would highly recommend to anyone after some fantastic tapas. We stayed and had desert and coffee too, all of which was great value for money.

Wonderful relaxed atmosphere, fresh food, and fantastic service. I love the fact there’s no smoking also outside so you can enjoy a meal and drink without inhaling smoke. Very friendly and attentive service from staff and owners. Definitely be returning.
