Had no been there before however joined a birthday party for my friend Lowenna's son. Honestly it was a brilliant evening. As the driver for the evening was not able to but taste the mead which was delicious but the food the atmosphere and the company more than made up for it. Excellent and good wheelchair access as well made for a brilliant evening. All the staff were totally full of smiles with nothing asked of them to difficult.

So adendom to my previous recommendations...now 37 years after our first visit and whilst this venue has changed hands it is still the same family running the business just a different branch. The magical atmosphere and the quality of the mead and mead/fruit wines and the marvelously enjoyable food menu has not diminished one iota my personal favourite over many years has been breaded mushrooms with garlic mayo followed by the most delicious fried chicken quarter with chunky fries and salad then topped off with a rum and raisen ice cream meringue glace with clotted cream usually sprinkled with great company. The staff are super friendly and attentive, cost being for a very generous 3 course meal with drinks around £25 per head... cheaper options available including kids menus. It's the sort of place that memories are made and generations of families return year after year. Well worth a vist not forgetting to bring your fingers 😋. The atmosphere and the food and the staff and the drink and everything will just keep me going back at every given opportunity. Oh and do not forget to write something in the guest book as its such fun to find our families past comments dating over 4 decades. Go. Relax. Enjoyed. Book early. Have a designated driver. 🥰

This place was a dream come true for myself. I grew up in Cornwall, but I never visited this place before. Can not believe I never knew this place existed. I first walked into this establishment to notice the restaurant was very dimly lit I struggled to see I even tripped on the floor on my way to the table there were candles lit on the table wich made the lighting weird and a safety hazard the restaurant is themed in a mediaeval them however the menue tells us it was built in the 1800s it was quite scary as there was red lights and swords placed around the walls we were severed quick for drinks but the fizzy drinks were flat no fizz at all and once we order our food which was a very small menue they brought out our lasagna but then took it away saying it was from the wrong box signalling it isn’t cooked fresh after they brought out the right one I found it very very hot but the cheese was not melted and the pasta was green they also don’t give everyone knifes and forks which even if it was chips some people would like cutlery talking about chips they were very dry and had no flavour after our meal it took very long to take our plates away we quickly left never wanting to return again

After not having visited Cornwall for many years my partner decided to book a table for us, both him and his family exclaiming about its excellent unique style, food that is out of this world and unbeatable service in his eyes. Upon entry, we were greeted by a smiley lady who seated us with a finger bowl and took our order. It was already known that we were to eat with our fingers and this idea was quite fun and jovial. However that’s where, I’m afraid, my positivity comes to an ends. Immediately the ‘medieval tavern’ became inauthentic, ruining any immersion with the playlist of popular pop songs, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and other artists that don’t fit the theme of the place. Maybe I am just being particular but I personally don’t want to be listening to this style of music in a tavern aesthetic. The pop music cut through the air, making simple conversation tough. After ordering what was labelled as ‘coke’ and ‘diet coke’ on the menu, we were surprised to see that the bubbles had immediately disappeared upon drinking and that the ratio of Co2 to syrup was off and the drinks went flat immediately. Not only that but the drinks themselves tasted funny as if the knock-off brand ‘coke’ - ‘Cola blue’ was being served instead of what was advertised. Then came the food Frozen. Frozen. Frozen. No, the food itself didn’t come out frozen but it most definitely was cooked from the freezer, with it arriving ten minutes after ordering. The old saying goes “if fish smells fishy it isn’t fresh” applied here and the ribs looked as if they had been bought from a local Tesco. The ‘fish fries’ were just chunks of fish, leaving me confused as to what the ‘fries’ part of it meant. Maybe the fries were the chips it was served with, I genuinely have no idea. Not even the tartare sauce tasted fresh, and it really left us with a taste of dissatisfaction, not even craving a dessert. I am so disheartened to leave such a terrible review amongst all the positive but I genuinely do believe this place would be so much busier if a few simple changes were made, and I’m sorry but for these prices and the reasons I don’t think I will be returning until changes have been made.

This was a trip down memory lane. We used to get a takeaway from the Meadery when we lived at Trewellard in the 70's and remember it being converted from the old chapel. On the advice of a family member, who'd heard great reports, 6 of us went back for dinner and it was a joy! Great food, great atmosphere, excellent value and lovely to chat to the staff about days gone by. Won't leave it so long before we come back. Thank you.

An awesome place, great food fantastic atmosphere. It is loved by locals so that is the best advert. You need to book up as it is only open for a short time on particular evenings. Dogs are allowed, but only in the conservatory. Food in a meadery is meant to be eaten by hand, so finger wash bowls are available on every table. The mead is amazing, so you definitely need to try it, even if you don't normally like mead, try the strawberry, cherry or the popular Blackberry mead, you will not be disappointed. There is parking at the front, but it is limited, so get there early. I would definitely recommend this Meadery.

Yet another visit here, just can't keep away. Service from the moment we entered until leaving was again exactly as it should be, friendly, polite, warm, welcoming and prompt. The food was hot, very tasty and the portions generous. The Mead was flowing with first time visitors trying a few different flavours whilst those of us who had been before were quickly into our favourite flavours. Whilst cutlery can be asked for and used when we go we save on the washing up (apart from desert) it all adds to the atmosphere and experience that this setting gives. The first time visitors in our group of 8 said that they loved it and thought the food, setting and atmosphere was great and would recommend it to friends and family when they come to Cornwall. Those of us who had been before agreed we were not disappointed could find not fault and would definitely be back. I would suggest anyone thinking of going call and make a reservation as it does get booked up. Whilst I have never not been able to park it can be a little tight if really busy.

The Meadery seems a curiously Cornish tradition that has built up over the last 60 years or so, the combination of faux medieval surroundings, fried finger food and relatively potent Cornish mead making for an interesting and enjoyable experience. The Trewellard Meadery is located in an old chapel in the very far west of Cornwall between St Just and Pendeen. We ate there during a visit with friends in April 2023. We had a combination of the traditional chicken, scampi and fish bites within our party and all were very enjoyable along with blackberry, elderberry and cherry mead. The restaurant was full and clearly very popular. It was also pretty good value overall, given the amount of mead we had consumed. The staff were friendly and the food was pretty good for what it was. We would certainly return.

Decent restaurant with an amazing interior. It's seriously the restaurant with the best atmosphere I have ever seen. A nice big hearth and it feels like you're in a 19th century tavern because of the old structure thats still there and all the ornaments on the wall. The food could be better though, the shrimps of the shrimp cocktail were fresh but had too much sauce with it. The chicken was overcooked, slightly dry and bland. Not a single touch of seasoning added. The mead on the other hand was actually really nice with plenty of variety.

Having been a customer of the Trewellard Meadery for some 25 years we have tonight had the worst possible experience in a restaurant. We love The Trewellard Meadery and have always been treated well. Great service, great food. The restaurant was a credit to its, now former, owner Debbie. Tonight however has left us feeling so sad as a place we have always held dear has been ruined for us. We booked a table at the 6.30pm sitting. We ordered drinks, first course and main. Our drinks were served straight away and our starters came within 10 minutes. Having finished our starters we then waited 25 minutes for our main course. Food was great. After finishing our main course we then sat for another 20 minutes plus before a waitress came to clear away our plates. She asked us if all was OK and when I mentioned that we had been waiting too long the owner of the restaurant then interjected and actually called me a liar. In her opinion we should have been there for a "romantic meal" (her actual phrase) and we should not complain. I told her she should not assume our reason for being there. I asked her if she cared about the requirements of her customers she openly replied "No". We were then told "You don't have to come here if you don't like it" again her actual words. It is hard to believe that someone in her position could have so little understanding of customer care. I have never felt so aggrieved in my life. This woman was down right rude and has ruined not just an evening out but 25 years of memories of our favourite place to eat out. Trewllard Meadery. Never again.

What a fab find! Pre-booked a table 2 weeks ahead of holiday and so pleased we did. This meadery is set in an old Chapel and kept all of the features. All lit by candlelight and kept old Chapel seats. Great atmosphere - would be great to have a medieval night here! Service was fab and owner very attentive. 3 of us had the chicken in the rough which was delicious but very filling...may just go for the quarter next time 🙄 Had a "proper" prawn cocktail for starter just like we have them at Christmas from the 80's. Simple but gorgeous food cooked well. Tried some mead which was lovely...recommended the blackberry which was like a desert wine. Parking a bit tricky as you're in a tiny cornish village but the owner let us park at her sisters place! Thank you to all. Great evening!

So I’ve never been to a meadery before and I had no idea what it even was before my boyfriend told me about it. He recommended this place as his family have been eating there for years. I havnt really got much to compare it with but I loved it either way. It’s very dark in there, felt like I walked onto a medieval film set. The staff were amazing, even when I said I’d never tried mead before they went and got loads of testers for me so I could see if I liked it. Which of course I did! The food was surprisingly amazing! When my boyfriend said you eat with your hands… he wasn’t joking! We ordered chicken in the rough, which tasted like their own kfc recipe, if not better than kfc!! I left that restaurant very very full up, they are extrnemly generous with their portion sizes. I also bought two bottles of mead, at a very reasonable price. We had 3 courses each and two bottles of mead and it was below £100 so I was very impressed. We will definitely return, I can see why it’s popular!

Well cooked Sunday lunch, very filling and good choices other than the roast, although the beef was excellent. Good engaged service and a great view

The food’s OK, and not overpriced. What lets the place down is the noisy staff member ( owner?). I know it’s a greasy spoon, but still, one should be able to eat and hear oneself think in relative peace. I sit outside if possible.

Weekday evening here, a very welcoming bar area with open fire, staff very polite and efficient. Good choice of food with a set menu plus ‘a la cart’ as well. The food was really lovely, and reasonably priced, along with good choice of drinks from the bar.

Since leaving London I have missed the small independent bakeries and this one is the answer to my prayers. Great selection of food from hot food and pasties to sweet treats and cakes and priced unbelievably well 😋
