The food standard has unfortunately dropped and it had loads of wailing kids when we visited. A shame as we expected standards to be the same as 10yrs ago. Nice ice cream though and lovely service from the young staff

Just OK for a quick coffee. But the ladies toilets were the worst I have been in , in a cafe for a long time. When I politely brought it to the attention of a member of staff, she was extremely offensive saying that the problem was due to the people using the toilets and that I was lucky to have a toilet at all, as a lot of cafe's don't have one. Nothing about rectifying the issue. Not a good service there.

Lovely cafe, food is always amazing. Similar price to weatherspoons but the quality of food is so much better. Good choice of desserts too. Only downside is sometimes it's hard to find a seat because it's soo popular.

Excellent efficient service by friendly staff. Really accomodating with providing individual requirements fir special diets. Had a really delicious breakfast but would love to go back fir lunch as their specials included Lasagne, steak pie, roast chicken abd a daily quiche. Really good menu to choose from.

I have been coming here since I was a child. I love it. Great food and service. I always have to have ice cream when I visit. They have a great choice of flavours and you can have anything from a cone to a sundae.

Didn’t even want to give one star awful is the word dry overpriced food service was lazy and my salad was so dry and chewy chicken oh and a dead ladybug in my food when I told them no urgency at all like it was an everyday occurrence and no apologist money back for the salad that’s it not the other 2 meals we left because my partner and son couldn’t stomach them after witnessing that plz don’t eat here it horrendous don’t waste your money!

Lovely atmosphere, scrummy food, friendly staff who smile and help in any way they can, our little boy is allergic to egg and they reccomended just getting toast beans and a sausage separate as the kids menu would be more expensive which the honesty was appreciated, we all had breakfast and it was delicious! Lovely quaint little place, when we return back out that way it is definitely a place to re visit

If I could leave 0 stars or lower I would, food was absolutely disgusting, staff did not ask once if everything ok, I chose the breakfast wish I had left the money on pavement and starved, the bacon inedible, the sausage if you call it that look like it done 10 rounds in the boxing ring, the egg would of looked nicer if you threw it off the pier, worst place in burnham for breakfast, please avoid in your holiday

OK the ice cream was great. The baguette was not. They did make a cheese and tomato sandwich off menu which was good if them. Worth a visit, it's been around a long time. Perhaps caught the baguette maker on a bad day.

Not as good as I remember it from a couple of years ago.

We have been going to Forte for 37 years. We live in Bridgwater. The jacket potato was 'old'. I advised the server of this who told the owner. He was extremely aggressive towards me and said he cooked it himself so knew it was alright. He said I should bring it to the counter!!! I was aghast should he not have come to the table! I felt bullied I am an elderly lady of 71 with health issues. After buying sandwiched to replace my meal I returned to my table. I then asked the lady who cleared the table to take the plate to her boss. He came to the table carrying the plate saying I had eaten the potato and all that was left was the skin. I protested and said that I had had two mouthfuls. He was loud and aggressive. He said he was doing nothing about that!!! I wasn't particularly asking for a refund just to draw attention to the quality of the food. He had no idea of customer service. He was loud and aggressive to an elderly lady who he practically called a liar. I was shaking and extremely upset. As my husband said he had shown himself up as being unprofessional and having no idea how to treat his loyal customers.

I go for a good run on my motorcycle to Burnham sometimes in the mornings and always call into Fortes for my breakfast. The food is excellent and the staff friendly.

Had the fried breakfast, nicely cooked and reasonably priced. Although we didn't have one, the ice creams looked good.

We love it here. We both had jacket potatoes. Mine had a generous filling of tuna mayo and the other was cheese and beans. It comes with a very nice side salad.

I have a dog at home, so one of the things I love about eating out is not having hair in my food. When my daughter discovered a hair in her food here, I complained. Instead of apologising, the guy belittled me and literally said there was "nothing he could do," as she'd eaten most of it. If you're lucky enough to find hair in your food at Fortes, make sure you eat less than half of it if you want any kind of comeback. Better still, go to Wetherspoons instead.

We just visited here, as the cafe we had planned to go to was closed. We went with our daughter and her two friends, two of them are Autisic, and affected by noise... So we stood in the doorway and decided if it was okay... They all decided it was pleasantly quiet enough. Although the decor is abit dated, we decided to stay and ordered our food. Three bowls of chips, two coffees, water and fruit shoot. All was enjoyed. They decided they were gonna treat themselves to a pudding. Ice cream for one, and my daughter ordered a waffle and banana, ( overpriced concidering she had no ice cream or cream or toppings as she is dairy intolerant) anyway she paid with her own money, and went to eat. Happily eating until she came across a hair! That didn't match hers or her friends, so she called dad over to take it back and complain, which is the right thing to do. Anyway he has greeted by a rude and overpowing man, who said the hair was on the side of the plate( which is where my daughter put it when she found it) and there was nothing he could do! Because it was 80% eaten... Well that's when she found the hair! And believe me being Autisic and germiphobic, if she had found it in the first bite that's when she would have stopped! No word of an apology! No offer of reimbursement! Or replacement! (We wouldn't of wanted another anyway! Especially now we know the hygiene isn't that great!) A very rude man indeed! And because of his presence, made my husband felt uncomfortable and unable to challenge... Obviously their tactic! Sounds like he needs replacing after having now read other reviews! (Wish we had read before we ventured in!) This could have been handled in a totally different way, because up until that point, it was okay and a few positives going for it. But as it is we will never go back and I will deter others from going also!

Took a quick lunch in Fortes. All fine but quite pricey.

Stopped in for a cup of tea and a scone. It was alright, nothing special. I was looking for a more quaint tea room but Fortes had to do.

Always visit Fortes when going to Burnham, staff always friendly and choice is large. Went for Steak Baguette today and all was very good.

Called in for a drink. Offered very strong tea I refused it only to be given dish water. Asked for hot water because one family member doesn't drink tea 50p for a mug of tea never before have we paid for hot water. Young girl very rude behind the counter and when we said about the 50p the manager was very rude and wasn't even prepared to speak to us. Terrible customer service never again

Been going since I was a child taken my children and now they take me its wonderful great food wonderful welcome and service and fantastic service if only everything in life was as dependable keep it up

We went there today as last year had a lovely meal 😋 Today I had the roast chicken and couldn't eat it because it was tough. The lady at the counter said what do you want me to do about it, then the chef came out and confronted me,.No apology or asked if I would like something else.No refund and the most disappointing customer service I have received in my 60 years. My husband's scampi was lovely shame about the staff.I was not expecting to told by a chef how I like my food.I have been in customer service for a number of years and was shocked by the treatment I received.

Had a Sunday lunch. We had pork. We had no yorkshire puddings but had what looked like a tinned sausage. Food was very dry. Potatoes were hard. Definitely not value for money. Won't be eating here again

It was a limited menu that I accept I ordered jacket potato with tuna and mayo. The presentation wasn't great it was indeed jacket potato with tuna and mayo the tuna dumped on potato then a dollop of mayo then a pile of sweetcorn which was NOT advertised on the menu and I dislike it . The poor young girl serving looked so awkward when I mentioned it I think this should be made clear on the menu

1st visit whilst staying at Haven.Visited twice whilst on a Monday to Friday break as don't think could be bettered. Frontage doesn't do justice to what is a large cafe with an retentive food and ice cream menu and they do my favourite Knickerbocker glory. We had the ploughman's one lunchtime. I had ham and cheddar and it came with a whole 8apple and it was ho.w cooked ham delicious. I lwill certainly be back when in arr snd recommend.

Great place is Fortes and historic place too which has been on the same place for as long as I know and had a knicker bocker glory and also had 3 scoops of ice cream in one cone. I would recommend Fortes to anyone who visits Burnham on Sea or is a local and wants to have time to themselves especially on a nice sunny day like it was today (Bank Holiday Monday).

I've been visiting Fortes for more than 65 years. In all that time the food and drink has been of good quality and the decor somewhat dated but clean enough. There is, however, one ensuring problem.....the toilets. For as long as I can remember they have been poorly decorated, equipped and cleaned. I visited this afternoon and was disappointed to find the disabled toilet 'Out of Order', the cleanliness of the Ladies left much to be desired and the hand washing facilities were very much less than satisfactory. The water pressure from the cold tap was so fierce that water was sprayed all over the floor and the air from the dryer was ridiculous poor. Fortes, this is 2023. People expect, quite rightly, a much more superior quality of toilet facilities. What you have to offer most certainly isn't good enough.

A roomy cafe/restaurant with friendly helpful staff. Our Sunday roast was well presented but the meat was not tender which spoiled the experience a little. We had the pork. However our banana boat desert was very impressive & delicious. Great location just off the seafront. We thought the price of £10.75 for the roast was very reasonable but the desert at £6.95 we felt was excessive even though it was excellent. (Prices as of May 2023) Will definitely go again.

Fabulous place for food and a chat

Fortes is a real highlight of Burnham. Great food and service, especially the ice cream (Cherry Bakewell - unusual!) and the Stilton ploughman’s, best I’ve had.

Great cafe,staff very friendly, food excellent. Just a shame the Disabled toilet is always out of order each time we visit., been out of order since visiting in January 2023, last visit 19th march 2023. Come on Fortes, please repair the fault 😢

Had food in there again, and it was lovely. We took our son, daughter in law and grandchildren there. We also had ice cream, which was lush. Reasonable price too.
