A lovely pub frequented by locals and tourists alike, and both are given a warm and hearty welcome. Good food and ales, including local Cheddar Ales brewed just a mile away. This is what a pub should be like!

We stopped there as we were quite tired after the cliff top walk. The food (that you order at the bar) was ok, but not too good, the service is quite slow. Dog-friendly. In general, it can be recommended for a bite in this touristy place.

We had the Sunday roast today. The food was quite disappointing and there was about a 40 minute wait after we ordered for the food to arrive. The yorkshire's hadn't risen and were tough doughy balls. The roast potatoes were hard on the inside. The food was just a little bit warmer than outright cold. Pics of yorkshires below. The pub itself is nice though and the front of house were friendly.

Great location and good looking pub. Good choice of beer cider and wines. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The big let down was the food and service, over ten minute delay between first main course and the last , the food quality has room for improvement . The Halloween display was excellent.

This is a lovely pub. The staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was friendly. The photo is our first meal - chilli and a jacket potato with bacon, brie and cranberry. The portion size was generous and the food was tasty. We liked it so much we went back for another meal before our holiday ended.

A welcome break from roasting in the sun, marching up and struggling down the gorge, climbing (Jacob's) Ladders and exploring the chilly caves. All excellent. The beer garden is quiet and affords excellent views of the Gorge. We shared a Ploughman's lunch, excellent. All washed down by drinks appropriate for the hot weather.

Had Family meal out here tonight and wasn't impressed with the food. Camembert and brie sharer was frozen cheese pieces deep fried with a massive of salad, surely being based at cheddar gorge could the cheese not have been local? Chilli con carne very watery and pate on ploughman's was dry and more salad than extras. We had 2 pints and a total bill of £74 definitely not value for money and seen as it was supposed to be a family meal treat while on holiday we have left very disappointed in deed.

Happened to stumble across this gorgeous little pub by chance! And to be honest, it was only because they had some Morris Dancers just outside performing that we actually stopped for a drink! Glad we did! Ended up finding a really lovely Cheddar Valley Thatchers on tap! Has started a new obsession now! Coming back to the pub itself, the building is tastefully decorated and the staff seem nice enough! We ended up stopping in there again the following day for another drink! Good sized pub garden with a few benches! Good atmosphere and prices! Would definitely recommend!

Was really looking forward to visiting this place as the reviews were really good. 1. It took around 40 minutes to get the food we ordered. 2. When the food came out mine and my mum's food wasn't what we ordered. 3. To be honest I actually felt poorly after eating my Sunday lunch. Vegetables were undercooked, the roast potatoes hard and the stuffing in my opinion wasn't cooked at all. 4. The staff were very friendly!! Overall unfortunately I won't be coming back.

We came to Cheddar Gorge which has loads of cafes and fish/chip shops but not many options for something a little more so we tried the White Hart. This pub looked nice. Warm crackling fire. Sweet old local man sitting with a pint reading the paper. We settled in, looked at the menu and had a question about the “pie of the day”. Exciting stuff. What could this pie be? Had a hankering for a good local pie. The pie mystery was never solved. No doubt we would be still sitting there if I hadn’t tried to peer through the shroud of the abandoned pub. A lady floated through the kitchen, catching my eye, quickly looking away and disappearing to the glass machine. Nobody else about, I called to her. My voice echoed off the lovely interior a number of times before turning to the sweet old man to ask if the place was open. He had a pint in front of him. Logic suggested it was open. I called over a few more times. Peered round corners and eventually left to find food. If this place was open, and only one person worked here, the priority was not taking orders or preparing food. A great place to visit is you like a nice fire and a sweet local chap.

Would not recommend this place Accused my daughter of 21 of having a fake Driving licence tried to rub everything off it thankfully they didn't ruin it mayb the staff need training in fake licence spotting . Rude Staff ...ignored us even when trying to speak to her The atmosphere was awful was made to feel like criminals insinuated we were lying No apology how they treated us I understand about checking IDs but there are ways to do it and how to treat the customer The staff obviously need training in this area too We took our custom elsewhere where noone queried the licence by rubbing it , making it dirty almost defacing it .

Eleven of us visited here on the 13/2/24 for food and drinks. It really is the perfect country pub. Warm and cosy with a good selection of drinks and a varied menu. It is really reasonably priced and honestly all of the food was absolutely spot on. The barmaid accidentally overcharged me for one of the meals. I hadnt realised but the manager highlighted this and refunded me the difference. Many other places wouldn't have been so honest! If you're visiting cheddar or passing through this place is definitely worth a visit.

Very poor ploughman's lunch, piece of cheese and piece of pate small enough for a child, and very small portions of everything else. Not the best. Satay chicken - main - basically onions and chicken, no peanut flavour, there was a watery kind of sauce at the bottom but tasted nothing like satay! Crispy chilli beef - not chilli!!! No heat at all but did taste really good none the less, but more like sweet and sour. Salt and CHILLI chicken - my go to at any Chinese, where the chilli? Literally 2 tiny bits of chilli rings cut from a chilli, that's it, that's your chilli content, come on! Egg fried rice - tasted okay, really dry though. Plain fried noodles - again really dry, probably because they use a small tub and squashed it all in so tight it wouldn't even come out Over all, this is the second time I've tried this place, the first was 2015, I didn't like it then and I have not changed my mind. Disappointed
