We went to Treacles last week. We ordered a hot chocolate and tea, which came to approx £5.50. The hot chocolate was instant hot chocolate with water, no milk and difficult to drink as it was disgusting. If I wanted instant hot chocolate I would have gone to a supermarket!!! It is a shame that treacles quality of food and drink is terrible as it is pretty tea shop.

I am a regular visitor to Treacles Tea Shop in Winchmore Hill. The food is always great and good value, and the atmosphere and service is excellent. The staff are always friendly and happy to accommodate. There is a lovely garden in the rear that during summer days is a lovely place to enjoy a cool drink and a lovely piece of homemade cake. Highly recommended!

I have visited this place twice. Never again. I don't often write reviews but I feel compelled to write one about this place after my awful experiences there. It looks delightful from the outside and I had been keen to visit for a while. The first time I went I took my nephew and 2 nieces - I was looking forward to treating them to cakes to celebrate one of their birthdays. We are talking about very respectful, polite and well behaved children here aged between 7-10. Anyway when pointing out to the staff which cake they wanted they made the fatal mistake of touching the glass with their fingers. A person who I assume to be the owner was extremely rude, rushed around to the front of the counter and in a very harsh and abrupt tone told them off and immediately started polishing imaginary smear marks from the glass, tut tutting the whole time. The children were left feeling upset and it spoiled the rest of the visit. What should have been a lovely birthday experience was ruined. We ate our cakes and left swiftly. I can't even remember whether the cakes were any good or not. They may have been amazing but unfortunately that lady's actions just overshadowed the whole experience. I visited the tea room a second time, meeting a friend there who was keen to try it out. We ordered our meals and immediately after our plates were cleared we were asked to leave as "we are very busy you know and you have already taken long enough". We can't have been in there for more than 30 minutes. Again, it just created a horrible atmosphere and ruined the catch up with my friend who I hadn't seen for years as I live abroad. I have never had such negative customer service experiences before. As a paying customer I expect a warm welcome and to be treated with respect not hostility and rudeness. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you have babies or children with you as you will be made to feel unwelcome. What a shame, this place could be fantastic.

Treacles is a lovely little tea shop with delicious cakes and treats. Unfortunately they only have the classic teas and coffees, which is nice but I would of liked a variety of flavours, but apart from that I recommend it very much!

Its a shame to have to write such a harsh review, because we had a lovely meal and service wasnt bad until the end. However, as we were enjoying conversation at a volume suitable for this cafe (and for the fact that we were sat in the back section alone) who we assume was the manager, as she was quite a bit older and not serving customers herself, came to our table and interupted our meal to tell us, rather patronisingly and with no introduction, to be quiet as she could hear us in the kitchen.

This is a real gem. With cafes so full of noisy children these days, it's a joy to step into this lovely little oasis and enjoy tea served in lovely china and homemade cakes to die for. I only had a small breakfast of toast and marmalade but portions were generous. The lady on the next table had a very generous cheese toasty and it made my mouth water. Staff were pleasant and we were never made to feel that we had overstayed our welcome. Looking forward to a return visit.

Lovely tea shop for brunch or lunch. You are seated and given a menu. You then go to the counter to order. The food was really good and our tea was served in lovely china tea cups with loose tea in a pot. The price is a little expensive but I guess it's in Winchmore Hill. The staff are friendly and will leave you alone and not disturb. I noticed that there is a takeaway service and also noticed that the tea shop would not be suitable for families with babies as they do not have high chairs. Overall a lovely discovery and one that I would like to repeat again!

Never before have I felt so unwelcome! Popped in with my 2 year old son for a sandwich before a hair appointment and asked if they would do a half sandwich for my son and a full meal for me to which the response was "No we don't cater for children!" I ordered an egg mayo sandwich and a slice of toast with beans for my son, it took 20 mins to arrive at the table, my sons meal was cold and my sandwich wasn't much better than a pre packed supermarket effort!! My son was very well behaved chatting happily and sat at the table nicely eating his food. However, the proprietor still couldn't wait to get rid of us! We felt so unwelcome we asked to take away the cake I had promised my son. All in, £10 for a poor quality meal in an uncomfortable atmosphere!! We won't visit again!!!

We are locals in this area and regularly visit at the weekend for lunch, we were there today to have carvery sandwiches, the quality of the food has definitely gone down, the service and hygiene unacceptable. The display of food unsightly nothing looked fresh and dried out. The drinks fridge was so low the drinks were not even cold I had to ask for a colder drink. The tables and chairs worn out and floor is full of crumbs. People don't deserve this, I urgently call this to be looked into.
