Town Crier in Cheshire West and Chester

Visited Chester for a short day out, off the train and saw a welcoming pub, so we thought we'd pop in for a short bite and a few pre-drinks. The lovely gentleman who was on the bar, named Rich, talked us through the food and drinks menu, didn't spare any details and was very patient and welcoming to our questions. After we placed our order, we decided to explore their huge, lovely beer garden. After having a natter for around 10 minutes, our food arrived, and we weren't expecting the outstanding cuisine we were given, outstanding. Would recommend!

Stopped by the pub for lunch with friends before catching a train. Lovely atmosphere, the staff were great and the food was top notch. Would definitely visit again.

Called in on the way to Manchester Airport and ordered 2 beers and the very kind Chef ( Dan) asked us whether we were hungry and gave us a gammon and chips to share and 2 plates. It was delicious. Thanks Dan!

Organised a buffet here this lunchtime to get 2 work teams together. Called in a couple of weeks ago and booked in a fuss free way. We turned up on the day and had a lovely area reserved for us. Plenty of food - even for those who turned up at the last minute. Everyone really enjoyed getting together out of the office. Thanks to everyone at The Town Crier for making it all so easy for us!

If you find yourself with a few minutes to wait at the Chester station might as well walk 20 seconds to the Town Crier and grab a quick snack and pint. I definitely recommend. And bring your luggage, no worries.

If you're looking for a drink to start your tour around Chester then the Town Crier is a good place to start if you've just got off the train. The Town Crier is directly opposite the railway station

Ordered the mixed grill and lasagne. Very cheap cuts of meat used! Who makes a lasagne with pork and beef. Smelt and tasted disgusting. Had to send it back but next one was no better. Not sure what they used for pasta lasagne sheets? Definitely not pasta! If it was it was very over cooked! The beef on the mixed grill was tuff and boot soles! Had better quality meat from Aldi! My best advice is it's okay for drinks but food shocking for a Thursday evening. Not sure if was just that evening.

Staying at Queen at Chester hotel, recommend going to The Town Crier for brunch, lunch, or dinner. Delicious food, staff are lovely, sat in a booth. Cosy

Does breakfast , it's ok for price , plates too small and makes hard work to just enjoy it Felt tables were a bit dirty too, probably from a busy night before

Always a good meeting point and convenient location by the railway station. Unfortunately, there never seems to be enough staff serving. I don't know what the food is like.

Highly recommended. Like the Buzz. Food and drink inside or outside excellent - great Guiness. TV everywhere for sports. Warm, friendly - come in and join us.

A very busy pub with a good selection of real cask ales on offer. The staff are really friendly and getting served is pretty quick despite the queues to an order. The whole place could do with a good clean though, and tables were sticky with old drinks.

Great pub and it's right opposite the train station so it's great for your first drink of the night and also your last drink of the night on your way back after a night in Chester ,very busy pub, sometimes it's hard to get served at the bar but nothing too bad, haven't had any food so can't comment on that,but a great pub , very lively and great friendly staff,well worth a visit

I wasn't a customer here, I came here because I was really ill and needed the bathroom. The staff were so kind to me, they checked in on me and gave me water it was very sweet. I will 100% come here when I am up for a drink just due to the sheer kindness they gave.

Blond female Bar staff member, extreamly rude. Waited close to 10 minutes to be served. Even though she knew we were there and waiting she still had no intention of serving me or my friends. I Think she was going for tips off the best dressed rather than good customer service. Thankfully a male bar person seen this and eventually served us. I will never return to this pub.

Great little boozer before getting the train, decently priced food and drinks.

A very convenient spot directly opposite the train station. Train times are on real time display. We arrived and stopped to have a quick breakfast before heading into town. Both my carnivore husband and my vegetarian daughter were catered for with no complaints. The food was tasty.

Great beer and even better service.

Avoid. The strongbow dark fruit tasted funny and I had bad guts all day after drinking in here. The food looks nothing like the pictures, portions are tiny.

After using the app we were informed the app wasn't working they took the payment but refused to refund. We were told we need to reorder at the bar repay to receive any food and drinks?? We contacted head office who are still saying no a refund saying that they haven't received the money yet our bank clearly shows the money has gone??? So someone has our money Save your money avoid at all costs!!

The town crier, is in the heart of Chester, plenty of room to sit outside in the sunshine if that's your thing, but also it's just as nice inside where the staff are willing to help sorry no photos as sometimes I think it's creepy, it's part of the hotel so it's really nice place 👍🏻

12.33 on Thursday 15th August. Have just been served by a very pleasant young barman. He was amiable, helpful and polite. Almost as refreshing as my tonic water and ice in this current climate of "rude and aloof is the new normal". Didn't want to embarrass him and ask his name but his manager will be able to work it out from the rota and give an appraisal I am sure. Will be returning later with my elderly mother for lunch. Good manners are essential for businesses and he is a great example.

My visit was really enjoyable, food was delicious and came really quickly. Bar staff were knowledgeable friendly and attentive and the venue was clean and lively. Would recommend 10/10

The floor outside was sticky and the tables weren't much better.

The cleanliness of the premises and bathrooms is conspicuous by its absence, on the other hand they do not deceive anyone, reasonable food at an affordable price.

Good full breakfast at a good price, though I'm not a fan of using an app to order (online order is OK but not an app). Had to find a member of staff who was fortunately nearby

Had a great breakfast here on a short trip to Chester. Also a nice couple of pints on the way back to the train station.

Don't come here. First impressions - lots of litter at the door, dirty outside. Staff - terrible. Female staff member cleaning and collecting from tables is either mute or very unhappy. It's actually difficult not to smile to the level she was avoiding smiling. Food - terrible. Baguette felt like it was baked last week. No cheese in "melt" wrap. No ice at the bar. Cost - very reasonable🙃 you get what you pay for!

Can't Comment on the Food cause I have not Ate here Yet but ive never heard anybody Complaining about the Food while i have been in here, I always call in when I go the Races & it's always Busy, Great Atmosphere, the Bar Staff are Friendly & I've never had a Problem in here, some Places you know just look Wrong but this is Spot On

Nice pub to wait for the train. Peaceful atmosphere, plenty of space and the opportunity to find your own quiet table. Fast service and pretty good fast food.

Amazing place! I was served by Georgia, and she was fantastic! Very helpful and knowledgeable about the drinks. Deffo recommend the place for a casual drink and some great food!

Nice pub atmosphere across from the train station. Often frequent after work and the staff there are always friendly and know what I want, Ryan, Georgia, and Luke are some of the best bartenders I've encountered over all my years of coming to this pub and always seem to work well when under pressure when it's busy, whilst still being able to converse in a friendly manner. Me and a few friends came in for some drinks last weekend. We were served by a lovely lady called Georgia who was very friendly and made sure our visit there was the best it could be! I would definitely go here again as the service was excellent!

Myself and Matthew came for dinner after a day at Chester Zoo. Matthew ordered the cheese & bacon burger with a free soft drink (it’s free if you order a burger). I ordered chicken goujons and a Diet Coke. The food arrived promptly, it was really good value for money. The environment was buzzy with the football going on and people enjoying themselves. Great, helpful staff and the cheesecake Matthew had for dessert was excellent too! Thanks everyone!

Stopped by with the wife and kids after a long day at Chester Zoo and was met with a much needed pint. Staff were friendly, particularly a lad called Jake who was behind the bar. Would highly recommend.

I came in with some of my friends from uni. I was having a catch up and all the staff were extremely friendly especially Jake who gave me advice on what drink to go for. Will definitely be returning

We were on the road trip, from Chester Zoo to Manchester, and after long walk through zoo didn't have much more energy to go further looking for food and drink but it came out just fine. Bar is cozy, relaxed, food was great. It has lots of space, stuff is relaxed but kind.

Food was disappointing for the price

Called in for a drink after spending an exhausting day walking around Chester Zoo. Ended up staying for a couple of drinks and some food. Nice relaxed atmosphere, friendly lads serving the bar, who served good food too. Good job! I would recommend for families.

Staff service good if you friend of there's eat there 2 days staying best western over rd but it having refurbishment at min so crossed rd go here food overcooked both nights 1st night fish and chip platter battered sausage uneatable second night pie burnt dried out people stay away

Decent pub opposite Chester railway station.

Conveniently placed by the station, not enough staff on, took ages to get served. Toilets were dirty, after my wife went to the toilet it sounds as if the ladies are worst than the mens.

Just a few drinks for a meet up .toilets were horrid not only a mission up the stairs but were soiled in cubicle 2 of the three. On busy night need checking regularly

This place seldom provides you with prompt service, and that is putting it mildly.

Called in for a drink only to be ignored by the bar staff even after enquiring about a particular drink, walked out after being ignored service for 10 minutes whilst they served others who arrived afterwards.

Booked a booth with a tv for a double slot of rugby. We had table service via the app so simple to use. Staff were superb, very efficient. Friendly atmosphere. 7 dishes for approx £22 was fab to pick on during the games.

Perfect place to go on a Saturday early evening before a night in the live rooms. Perfectly placed over the road from the train station, good food and service. Beer garden out back for the summer, does get busy but it's a good busy. Like Arny said "ill be back"

What's not to love. Great choice of Alcohol at a very reasonable price ooshed.

They were kind enough to change over one tv channel for rugby but the choice of real ale was minimal. Also the "Gents" was closed due to flooding/problems which meant using the "Ladies"!!

Met a lovely barman called Kieran. Kieran told me he would come and play computer games with me and my friends. Nearly 3 years later, he is yet to show up, which is forcing my hand in leaving this review. Not happy with Kieran

Really understaffed. Staff were very friendly given how busy they were but my group found it difficult to get drinks and we ended up leaving early.

Singer 9n Saturday night was too low and is still searching for the right notes a week later

Rated as 4 stars as I didn't order any food. 1st visit and was much better than I expected (am generally wary of bars opposite train stations). Bar tender appeared promptly and offered me a free sample of a beer I'd not drunk before - it tasted good and I ordered a pint Overall, very impressed and will be visiting again

Just served a burnt piece of fish. I was a chef. That wouldn't even have left our kitchen. Disgrace to the profession of chefing.
