We were recommended by the florist to try this cafe cum gallery. It’s a destination in itself! An eclectic mix of antiques, gifts, crafts and local books you can browse for ages before or after being served with drinks and snacks. Unfortunately we didn’t try the homemade bread and cakes as we didn’t want to spoil our early lunch but they did look tempting. Instead we just had tea and coffee sitting on the Lloyd Loom chairs in the window. The owners were very friendly and seem to genuinely enjoy the company of their customers. Couldn’t be more different from the corporate coffee chains in bigger towns.

Having visited during every one of our MANY holidays in nearby Clun, we love the food, the ambiance and the gifts. The quality of the home made food, in particular the soup and bread is fabulous. Welcoming and smiling service adds to the reasons to visit. A gem of an establishment, you must experience.

I'm a local and regularly visit this fascinating tea shop (they sell coffee too!) . It's hard to know where to start, they have an amazing selection of teas, and they have a large range of coffees, and the hot chocolate is pretty good too. Then there is the food, most of which, including the bread, is hand made on the premises using local ingredients where possible. I would happily just eat bread and butter! Then we get to the second part of the shop, whilst you sit you are surrounded by an amazing array of fair trade goods and local art. I can go in there every day and still find something I haven't seen before. To top it all off is the warm welcome given to locals and visitors alike from the owners and staff. Even your dog will get a biscuit! If you are visiting Knighton this is one place you must visit

I’m so fussy about my coffee and each time I go, it’s consistently excellent. Imagine living in Knighton where you’re blessed with 5 cafes, but the only one that sells superior coffee is at the end of my road. It’s a conundrum, I tell thee....hmm what to do! I have visited before for coffee/cake (v.good) but wanted to thank today for customer service. My young son was caught short when we were out and I raced in with him and older son to use the facilities. As we left the facilities, older son managed to upset a chair and consequently spill a water jug all over the floor, while younger son cried. The management could not have been kinder. The waitress simply said 'These things happen, don't worry', and the manager flatly refused my attempts to pay some sort of charge for using their facilities, saying again not to worry. Please accept the sincere thanks of a stressed parent whose life you made a bit easier :)

We have passed this restaurant a few times whilst in Knighton but only ventured in last week. It's an odd mix of antiques, books and tasteful gifts but don't let that put you off. This is a place that knows how to serve good food and offers real value for money. We ordered the soups, one vegetable and one stilton and they were absolutely delicious. The bowls were large and filling. They are accompanied by two thick slices each of a malty bread and a white, home baked on the premises and ample portions of really delicious butter...very yellow and organic..no ice cold foil wrapped malarky! I had a coffee afterwards which was the best I have ever tasted, and I am a coffee addict. The cafe sources its beans, which you can also purchase. A quaint, interesting, quirky place with very friendly owners, superb food (the good old fashioned way) and congenial atmosphere at a reasonable price. What more can one ask for? The staff were friendly and accommodating, we could see that the locals used it as a place to get together, and the soup, coffee and cakes we had were fresh and full of flavour. They also sell books and other bits and pieces. With everything home made by John and with local and naturally sourced ingredients it can be difficult to choose from the very varied menu. One of my favourites is the soup whichever variety at the time, was always delicious and the wonderful homemade bread that accompanied it, which includes both spelt and rye bread. Another time the lavender cake or a piece of bara brith a welsh sweet bread, accompanied by a little pot of lavender tea gave a delightful welcome break, which can either be in solitary peace, or with a friendly chat. With over 30 types of teas and the coffee (which can include the Vietnamese Legendee) to satisfy any coffee buff, time can pass as you look around at the current local artists work that is displayed on the walls, the many books, the fairtrade crafts for sale, the old curios dotted around, or just relax in a window seat and gaze out at the old clocktower. This Gallery is a little real gem. Home-made bread, local organic salad and home-made chutneys for the lunches. Home- made cakes and a huge selection of Fairtrade teas and coffees to follow. The gallery itself is was a delight, there are regular exhibitions by local artists and some lovely quality crafts and gifts on display. Definitely the most interesting tea shop that we have found for miles around!
