The restaurant is extremely hygienic in current times where we must be careful. So yes, you can feel safe. I found the deep fried brie delicious, lovely dish. Steak pie was great but I have never liked the veg. All four of us enjoyed our meals.

We had a meal for six and it was prompt and tasty. Chilled water was provided and the food was well presented. I enjoyed my pear and walnut salad plus cod and vegetables.The restaurant was very clean (and the toilets too).A service charge was added but it wasn’t excessive. The portions could have been a little more generous.

Just spent over £35 on drinks and lunch, which to be fair was pretty good Couldn’t believe the pettiness when asked to pay £1 for a small plastic cup of tap water Pity our experience ended on such a sour note

Initially they refused to serve tap water at all, when I politely explained to them that it's illegal to serve alcohol and refuse tap water they said I could have tap water but they charged a pound per tiny glass for the service! The food was overpriced and the service was poor.

Extremely rude member of staff when A two-year-old child drop crumbs on the floor. And the waiter cleaned up he was very rude. When confronted He expressed if you don’t like it go and eat on the beach

Middle of tier 4 and the covidiots are queuing outside for takeaway standing next to each other with no masks. Basically a free for all at the counter. Almost £7 for literally a handful of chips and a cup of tea.

We have eaten at Toulouse many times before and as always have had a fantastic evening. My husband is a Coeliac and never has a problem with ordering gluten-free food. The steak was cooked to perfection and all food was superb. Staff are very attentive. Many thanks to everyone at Toulouse!

We have been customers of this restaurant for the past decade or so. Always been satisfied previously. We booked a place for two this evening (31 October 2920) to celebrate a special day. Ordered the most expensive bottle of red wine there was to start with to mark the occasion. Within a few minutes the waiter brought an empty bottle of the wine we ordered and put it on the table and then placed a decanter on the table with the wine already poured in it- and said we could pour from the decanter ourselves. We were not asked to taste the wine to see if it was ok. We have been to many good restaurants in our life. and also to a few during these difficult Covid times - and never seen a bottle of expensive wine already poured away from your eyesight served in a decanter in this way. We raised this with the waiter who said he did not have the space ( with social distancing) to decant the wine in front of us. We were not asked if we wanted the wine in a decanter and had definitely not asked the wine to be poured in a decanter and if there was an issue with social distancing we would have been happy for the bottle to be opened in front of us and just put on the table. When we said this to the water he dismissed our concerns/ observations and just walked off. When he returned we expressed our dissatisfaction again but rather than providing any rationale or trying to understand our perspective , he was extremely rude and said we will have to trust him that it is indeed that bottle that we ordered. We said that is not the issue but we have never been served wine like this in a restaurant. We wanted to speak to the manager of the restaurant and to our dismay he said he was the manager. He said if we can’t trust him with the wine how can we trust him with the food and basically said he would not serve us and told us ‘ to go to a restaurant we trust’!! We could not believe his disproportionate, unprofessional and aggressive behaviour! Our very first experience of this type of behaviour in 27 years in a restaurant in Southend!! We left- never to return again. Left a very bad taste in the mouth and completely spoilt our evening.

Could not be better, even my GP and his family and friends were there. 👍🏻Oh I’m no journalist. What more do you want from me. It was just amazing.

We had dinner here for the first time in a long while and the food and service were great. As we ate early we were also able to enjoy the view as the sun went down. 3 of us had fish and chips which they said was really nice and I had roast cod with leeks which was really delicious. Starters of prawn cocktail was lovely and full of prawns. All very Covid friendly so I'd highly recommend it.

Excellent food and service as always, we have been coming here for a while now as the menu changes it is always a sheer delight to taste the new items.The staff are very polite and professional and even with the new restrictions they make a meal out a delight.

Parked easily outside on the road. ^pm table booked for a Sat eve meal. We got to choose which table we sat at. Service was very good and staff friendly. The food came out in good time and it was great. Felt relaxed with the covid set up and hand sanitiser available at entrance and also on the tables.

Dined again last evening. First class service with polite, attentive staff. Ideal Covid friendly environment with hand sanitisers on each table. We booked for 6.15 and were welcomed on arrival, given a choice of seating and attended to speedily. Requested drink brought immediately and order taken and served efficiently. Each course was precisely as desired and staff remained attentive without unnecessary nuisance during our stay. Closing drink and bill served as desired. Altogether, a very pleasant experience. Cash gratuity reflecting high level of service and attention to detail. Keen to recommend and sure to visit again. How refreshing to receive such fine service in these challenging and difficult times.

We love this restaurant but we’re so disappointed with our recent visit. We ordered the fillet steak which was terrible. Came up cut in a round circle, looked and tasted like a burger and at 6oz was small. Toulouse used to be one of the best places in the town for a steak, but not now. Service was poor also, not if usual standard. Please get back to your normal great food and service soon.

Had a nice birthday lunch for my daughter Food good staff attentive and friendly only let down was the butternut squash pasta - 4 pieces for about £16 one person left hungry when the others were satisfied #foodenvy!

Sadly my salad was awful - prawn, crab and avocado salad ... plate full of lettuce, small prawns and crab mixed together with lime/chilli (just a chilli flavoured mush) quarter of an avocado and quarter of a tomato also 3 slices rock hard bread (really not sure why - is it suppose to be a pate mush) and this wS a main course .... seriously disappointed as the staff took no notice at my comments when they asked if everything was ok service? What service? Shame as we loved this place previously

We thought a quick fish lunch looking at the sea was just what we needed. I've got to say I haven't had a prawn cocktail in years and boy did this deliver. The fresh prawns were superb and the sauce was right on the button. A very simple dish made with quality ingredients. Which set the tone for the rest of our meal. Service was exactly as it should be, attentive and exacting as and when required. The whole experience was brilliantly executed and couldn't fault anything.We will definitely be back again soonThank you

As well as amazing food as usual this restaurant had pulled out all the stops to make its customers feel safe. This is the only restaurant I have visited that has taken measures and put their customers first . Thank you for putting your customers safely first . Y .

I normally only write reviews if I have something lovely to say, but this place should carry a warning. . .a combination of moody staff, bad service and so-so food would be bad enough, but not having room for me inside, they invited me to sit at an outside table and told me I could order anything from the menu. I ordered a steak (menu price £23.50) and when it eventually arrived, they brought it out to me on a paper plate with a throwaway knife and fork. The plate was so flimsy that they had to serve the mushroom sauce separately and in an ice-cream tub. Ever tried to saw through a steak with miniature snap-able cutlery? The lack of a plate and eating utensils should have been explained when I ordered. They were quick enough to take my money! In the end, the only solution was to have the meal put in a polystyrene box, and take it home to eat. Very poor show Toulouse, no wonder so many locals avoid you.

Food very good but sadly one member of staff was very rude to me at the end of the meal when i asked for a cab as it was raining it really did spoil the day i had not seen (as many people at this time) a friend for many months and we had lots to catct up on.

I tried to make a booking as the food is wonderful.My son is 11 and children under 12 are not welcome.Reason given: Children cant be contained. I find this an insult as my 11 year old my son behaves as well as an adult.

Felt very safe in Toulouse today whilst having lunch with my elderly mother and granddaughter. Extra space around table and glass screens. Staff wore masks while serving and speaking to us. The food was excellent. We also had the benefit of the eat out help out discount as it was Tuesday. Would highly recommend.

I had fish & chips from the takeaway menu and though the quality was good and the portions good-sized, prices are central London restaurant more than beachside chippy. But you are hungry, there's no line, you are out of lockdown and you just go for it...Social distancing ready, hand sanitizers and almost plastic free which is always good

Went here for the eat out to help out scheme. Food was lovely. Very covid friendly if that’s what anyone is worried about. All staff wearing masks including chefs. Hand sanitiser on all tables and books in doors of toilets so you don’t have to touch the handles. Clear partitions between tables too. 100% recommend.

Went on Sunday for lunch both of us had 3 courses all the food was great. Each table had a screen either side , all the waiters had masks also the chefs. We felt very safe which was important for us. Well done Toulouse. We will return.

Tried for an inside table but restaurant was running shorter hours as part of its CoVid recovery and it was too cold to sit outside, so settled for takeaway fish and chips. Hardly really "settled for" as, apart from the eating in the car, it was the best fish and chips ever. Would love to go back for the full restaurant experience.

Had a lovely meal here on a trip to Westcliff-on-Sea. Very organised and hygienic and great service and lovely food. We had to be there by 6.30pm but others were arriving much later. No children under 12 at this time.

Nice atmosphere (even with Covid safety measures) and staff were helpful and attentive. We had the beef burger, chicken burger and chocolate tart and they were all delicious! Would definitely go back again.

A very covid secure location, the prices matched the security. The food was fantastic and so was the view of the sea. The location is a great asset.

We ordered a delivery for the 21st June (sorry for the delay in the review) we asked for it to arrive if possible about 2.30pm... it arrived on the dot. Friendly staff when we placed the order over the phone, friendly guy who delivered it. We had starter of Whitebait, Brie and then three main courses - Steak and Ale Pie, Pork belly and a Beef roast followed by Dark Chocolate tart and Apple tart. All excellent! The only strange thing was remembering that it was a 'takeaway' it really was like having a good restaurant meal at home... sounds odd I know. but not like having a curry etc...Toulouse was a recommendation - so that although we couldn't at the time go to a restaurant to celebrate during this tragic time we were able to celebrate at home without either of us cooking! So thanks for helping make our day special. Hard to pick out this best part of the meal but for me it was the Whitebait, still crisp and moist and full of flavour, Although we haven't eaten in the restaurant we look forward to doing so!

Enjoyed a lovely meal delivered to us. Brie was very nice. Three of us all liked the baked cod. Very pleased with the dinner.

We order take away from Toulouse Restaurant , fillet of cod and burgers , the food arrived was cold , I find nail in my burger , and some rotten bread , so I called and I complained to the waiter, the next day I end up in the hospital with my son ( 3 years old ) for food poisoning After a horrible night of vomiting and high temperature , and I believe it was from the fish , when we complain again by phone the owner of the restaurant , he was so rude , and no professional no even apologise . When I told my good friend About my bad experience he told me that he had same experience , I did reported The restaurant to The local council and hopefully the will take an action so quick before things get wurst Never return again

I literally can't wait to go back to this restaurant. From start to finish the service was impeccable. The food was just amazing and so was the wine. We will be going back as a couple but will also like to book for my birthday and take our family here also. Such a lovely place to be!

I ordered dinner for four different deliveries for 6pm on Friday 3rd April, all were received by 6pm, all arrived in excellent shape, all were enjoyed by our guests, thank you Toulouse for doing this it really made my husbands birthday a day to remember.

Mothering Sunday plans to eat at Toulouse were blown apart by the Coronavirus. However, the Toulouse team came to the rescue by offering an excellent takeaway menu. We selected our time and rang through our order at 9am. Payment was via credit card. The food arrived on time, piping hot in appropriate packaging. We then delivered our daughter’s meal to her home. Quick dash back, FaceTime set up, food served and Hey Presto Mothering Sunday plans with social distancing re-instated. Well done and thank you Toulouse, we had a lovely special meal.

Sunday lunch for two.Not much more to add apart from it certainly was a great Lunch.The staff, the food, the hygiene, the relaxed ambience were all faultless, the wine list is very good.Probably one of the the best Sunday lunch experience in Southend.Bill was about £100 including wine for three courses.Highly recommended

Don't waste your time or money...we've been there 3 times. The food was ok but not exceptional.The service was like a curate's egg - good in parts.The manager is/was an ignorant man whose attitude and complete disregard for the problems we were having, made us vow NEVER to return.Recently, because the location suited our purpose and completely against my husband's wishes, I decided to give them one more try. Call me stupid.....I was very polite and he (I recognized his voice over the phone) would have been sacked by any self respecting owner for the manner in which he dealt with my enquiry. He was unhelpful, verging on rude and suggested I took my business elsewhere!So 10 of us ARE taking our business and bar bill elsewhere to another restaurant.This time, 'never again' MEANS means never again

Celebrated my brother-in-laws birthday here with 18 in attendance. Prior to the evening the restaurant asked us to narrow the menu down to three choices for starter and four for the main courses. Totally understandable for a big group. The service was excellent and the food very good. We were not rushed at any time and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Most importantly the birthday 'boy' loved the occasion too!

On way back from gym and ask hubby if he fancied popping into Toulouse and without knowing it was Pie and Mash day. RESULT. I had steak and ale hubby had Chicken and Leek amazing pies tasted beautiful will be back for more need to work my way down the different pies.

Fantastic food, great wine list & excellent service. We had the 2 course set Sunday lunch, the roast beef was cooked to perfection along with perfect roast potatoes & fresh veg. The Dessert of apple tart & raspberry sorbet was a perfect way to finish our meal.

Me and my wife decided to give this restaurant a try before visiting theatre, we were not disappointed, the staff were very helpful from the moment we walked in and the food was lovely. We will definitely visit here again when back in summertime with the family.

We went here for a pre theatre meal as they do an early bird special. Two courses at £15.90 and three for £17.90. Good foodd, good choices and well ptresented and served. You need to book as they get very busy. Wine is probably 10% overpriced but comparable with other local restaurants.

We were recommended to the Toulouse restaurant by friends and I'm so glad they did the food was amazing, my starter was the prawn cocktail which was divine, my husband had the mackerel pate also delicious, main course was middle cut of cod , my husband had the salmon fillet , cannot fault our meal at all just lovely fresh hot well cooked couldn't ask for anything more. The staff were very professional and pleasant in fact the whole evening was a delight, we shall definitely return when we next visit Southend.

Been to the Toulouse several times since my last review, not once have they disappointed me or my fellow diners.

We were recomended to try eating here, and turned up without a reservation. Luckily they had a table for two left as it was busy at 7pm. The staff were lovely, friendly and the menu very varied to suit most people. The most popular starter my wife ate, the prawn and crab cocktail she said was one of the best ever eaten. I had the smoked mackerel also very good. The mains both fish dishes cod and salmon for me delicious and plentiful. No room for dessert but the list looked delicious. Above average prices but worth it.

Decided to try Toulouse last night after a recommendation from a colleague. The welcome was warm and friendly even though we had no booking. Toulouse is a long thin restaurant and although the restaurant was busy, including a birthday party, it wasnt noisy. I was delighted to find that the chef was able to adapt the menu to suit my need for gluten free food without any fuss which was absolute heaven as other restaurants have made so much issue, that eating out becomes stressful. I had the salmon which was moist and tasty, my partner sampled the pork belly with black pudding. We had two very generous courses with drinks and it didn't break the bank. A lovely meal and a fabulous team running the restaurant; I'd highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

We were two adults and one child. We had dinner tonight on the Estuary Seafront. Staff were very attentive and the food second to none. The fish pie was divine. One gets value for money

I had been waiting for a few years to pay my first visit to Toulouse and I wasn’t disappointed. Although this is a highly popular and very busy restaurant, we received excellent service from when we arrived to when we left. The food was first class and really nicely presented, making this good value all round. We hope for a return visit very soon. Highly recommended and well worth booking!

We went for a walk and we went past the restraurant early on and saw some lovely roast potattoes being dished up.An image that remained in our mind while we went for a walk.So we decided to go in on the way back we had not booked but that was no problem they gave us a window seat table,We both had roast slices of sirlion with all the trimmings the food was excellent best Sunday dinner I have eaten out in a long time.For desert we both had treacle steamed pudding which was great plenty of treacle.

We visited the restaurant on the first Thursday of the New Year. We did book but didn't really need too; however, there was surprisingly quite a few diners considering the time of day/year and it being a rather cold, blustery January day. The food was really lovely, fresh, tasty with plenty of flavour. Service was excellent, friendly and discreet. Our waitress asked about dietary requirements and when one of our diners said she was dairy free, the waitress spoke to the chef who immediately offered her an alternative sauce. Shame I don't live nearby because I'd certainly visit again.

Pre theatre meal before going to the Cliffs Pavilion. We had the early evening set menu - lots of choice, excellent food and reasonably priced. This was our first visit and we will definitely return.

Menu the same but the food not as good as normal - A dish I’ve had before, today I thought very poor the fish a tad watery and without a lot of flavour in a sauce which swamped the accompaniments.

This used to be one of my favourite restaurants, I haven’t been for a while. I ordered the ravioli, which to my surprise was shop brought, our meals were very average. The restaurant was half full on a Friday night. Staff were friendly.

What a fabulous dinner! Three courses of perfectly cooked food that was classic but offered some exquisite dining tastes!

Celebrated two family birthdays in the last fortnight at Toulouse and have another one planned in just over a week's time. Three visits in under a month says it all really! The restaurant is a class act with a sense of occasion, but without being too pretentious. The food is tasty and delicious and there is always a positive vibe. The charming staff are attentive, but not intrusive and adhere to your every need. All good, nothing bad!

We visited after a recommendation. We were not disappointed! The drinks were delicious and the food was amazing. Menu wasn’t huge but was varied. My meal looked and tasted fabulous - portions weren’t overly huge which was perfect as I could have starter main and dessert. The pineapple carpaccio was just perfect to finish. The staff were welcoming and attentive. We will be returning.

My mum and I were in Southend for the night, this restaurant was at the end of the street where we were staying. So glad we stumbled across it. The food was amazing, I'm vegan and wheat intolerant and the staff were so helpful in making sure I was catered for, the chef even made a special starter for me. Mum and I both agreed it was one of the best meals we'd had. I can't recommend this restaurant enough, if you're in the area check it out.

We have started going here only recently. Parking is good; right outside the restaurant. Lovely location; right on the seafront. Food is excellent; we have tried many of the dishes from the set menu. Great prawn cocktail and deep fried brie starters. Delicious nut roast and pies with excellent vegetables. Recommended.

This is an excellent restaurant, successful since start-up. A good atmosphere, easy parking (£2.90 for 2hrs during peak hours), relaxed staff with good food. Nice outlook onto Western esplanade The only complaint is that as a regular, and they have many regulars here, I would like to see the Early Bird menu changed (rather than the a la carte) every couple of weeks. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed with this place.

Our Sunday lunch was really good. Although we opted for something else the roast dinner looked great. We had an enjoyable Brie starter and baked Cod which tasted really fresh. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. Definately going to return.

Four of us booked a lunch here on Sunday. Loved the beef with Yorkshire pud. Pork was excellent. Overall, the quality of food was excellent, we had a really nice and welcoming waitress, good size portions and reasonable price.

We ate Sunday Lunch here for my Mum’s 96th birthday. It was a family occasion and she had a wonderful time.

I returned to this outstanding restaurant this week for my birthday celebration. Overlooking the estuary on a enchanting evening, the setting of this restaurant is ideal for a special occasion. The menu (which is changed on a regular basis) is full of variety to suit all tastes and during the course of the evening you are catered for by unobtrusive and delightful staff. Nothing is too much trouble. The quality of the food (and the wine) is to this restaurant's credit. Every dish is a master piece and culinary delight - I highly recommend that you try Toulouse - you will not be disappointed. The restaurant was busy from the time we arrived to the time that we left - that spoke volumes.

Went with friends from America and essex had early bird menu 18 pounds 3 courses menu nothing special normal food all bought in and not homemade I'm a chef I had prawn cocktail to start 7 out of 10 my friend had Fried brid so small one bite and gone I had but loaf nice again nothing special my freind had scamp macdonalds chips in basket and 4 scampi dearest syrup pudding custard to sweet and all as said bought in the place echoes and you can't hear each other service was good as said nothing special just fancy name used to be the toilets before it was made into restaurant great play on words normal menu to expensive

We hadn’t booked a table but staff soon set a table for us, this was no trouble. Ordered a two course meal. Starters - whitebait. I was so surprised on how large this was for a starter. It was so hot and absolutely delicious. I was quite full after I’d eaten this. For the main course I ordered the chicken roast. It arrived and the presentation was lovely and it tasted wonderful. I can not fault the food, presentation and the staff here, everything was perfect

Visited with family on Sunday. It was really busy so wasn’t expecting to get a table but we were lucky. We had a 2 course meal and some wine. Service was excellent and food was tasty.

This used to be great. Had several excellent meals here in the past but this latest visit was a disappointment. Still great service but the chef does not understand. He/she thinks he/she is preparing food for masterchef judges but does not understand that in a real restaurant customers want a meal. Tiny morsels of food stacked high and a few smears on the plate is good for judges but I do not expect to be hungry when I leave the restaurant. Yes, the food is good, but I expect a meal not a tasting session.

Warm welcome from staff, nice ambiance. We chose the Early Bird Menu for our first visit. Three very good courses all very tasty, beautifully presented and excellent value. The main menu offered considerably more choices and portions looked very plentiful. Good choice of starters, some of which can be adapted to main course meals. We enjoyed our evening and will definitely visit again. Compliments to the chefs.

Myself and my partner were down for a week away to see family, we live in Somerset which is some 4 hours away so obviously we don’t know the area well. We had a walk down the beach from our apartment and wanted to stop for a drink and a small snack before meeting family for a meal in the evening. The cafe on the seafront was closed but opposite was Toulouse. We came in, waiter told us to find our own seats. Then we ordered a drink and a side of chips and he said to us point blank “you’re not eating? For future reference ladies you should go somewhere else next time”. I was honestly shocked to say the least at the attitude we had from the waiter especially as there was a couple of women behind us simply having a coffee so we assumed having just a drink would be fine? We then asked him to cancel the chips and that we would just finish our drinks and leave, both completely embarrassed and made to feel very uncomfortable by this man. Whilst we were drinking our drinks the waiter went over and was speaking about us to the chefs, quite clearly saying “don’t worry they want to cancel the chips, they’re going to finish their drinks and go”

An early bird evening meal before a show at the Cliffs Pavilion. An ideal location, and a really good meal served with style and a smile. Highly recommended and we will be back, good value freshly prepared menu 10/10.

Lovely quiet and intimate atmosphere. We enjoyed simple food cooked very well, portions we average sized. There would be a lovely view of the sea in the day, but at night time there wasn't anything to see. Quite pricey.

It was the early evening special which made it affordable. The title says it all. TripAdvisor want a minimum 100 characters for the review, but no padding really necessary!

Recently shot a wedding at The Old Parish Rooms in Rayleigh, the suppliers meal was the best we've ever had. The bride & groom told us that it is catered by Toulouse so my husband booked us a table and we were not disappointed. Sat in the window and watched the sunset with a bottle of red and the best food I've had in Southend for a while. Hats off to the chef! Will definitely return.

Expensive for what you got, Thought they were small portions, I had a 3 course meal but could have eaten more.

Went with my friend before a show , we chose the set menu had the prawn cocktail , scampi chips , apple pie was delicious well cooked and well presented and . The staff are so good very attentive, and friendly, the restaurant is clean and very welcoming nice decor. I have been many of times and never disappointed.

We took some friends here yesterday for lunch and everyone remarked how good the food and service were. Three of us had the steak and ale pie which was delicious, and the others had fish which they said was excellent. We have been a few times this year and always found it to be reliable.

I have been to Toulouse once before, but returned on Bank Holiday Sunday for lunch with my husband and Mum. It did not disappoint and my rep is secure.

I have eaten here a few times and have always found the food to be excellent. Quite classic flavour combinations, always delicious and meticulously presented. The prices are very fair for the high quality. Our most recent visit was very enjoyable. The views from the restaurant are lovely as it looks over the water.

Lovely looking restaurant and excellent male waiter service. However, definitely more vegetarian options needed here. There is so much creativity that can go into vegetarian food and let there be no mistake - it is as important as meat based dishes. I would love to return again with my friends but would want to see more choice for vegetarians please - it is a major part of the UK food industry now. Really want to return again but hoping that my request can be achieved.

Visited early one evening with Brother and Family from Kent to take advantage of the Early Bird Menu ! But - The A La Carte menu seemed much more interesting ! And it was ! We all had a lovely meal - great food served by friendly staff ! Financially a bit more expensive than we had anticipated - but worth it ! Will be back again !

I had read about the the sun room, so booked a table there for lunch .

Want here on a Sunday so they had a set meal which was lovely. The fish tasted so fresh and flavorsome. Would definitely go back to see what else they have on offer. The antipasti was delicious as starter too

A lovely setting with equally lovely staff all of whom were attentive and polite.

Our friends are regulars at this restaurant but we had only ever had a coffee there so we were excited to be invited on their recommendation.

It was very noisy this evening. I liked the steak pie but veg accompanying was disappointing (not what I would choose). Two of our family thoroughly enjoyed the lamb cutlets. Reasonable service. Desert was much nicer.
