Totties in Isle of Wight

Fish was dry, chips were hard, and the batter very soggy. Pay good money.. not happy at all. Shame as been before and has been very good.

It's OK but could be a lot better. The shop looks tired and in need of some fresh paint and TLC along with a deep clean. The service was good and the staff helpful and accomodating. The fish and chips. The portions were large and generous. The chips were very poor. Dried out and seemingly not freshly cooked. They also had an odd taste which highlighted the need for fresh cooking oil. The fish was very good excepting the batter was still soggy in places which would have been rectified with a few minutes more frying time. With a little more attention to detail it could be a very good fish and chips shop.

Only visiting as tourist and only expected some chips and a fish cake. The person who served was not interested in our business extremely rude . We both had fish cake and chips. Chips OK fish cake was utter filth. Limp was not even crispy and seemed to have been reheated in a microwave. My advice is not to bother it's not worth the money or rudness.

Excellent chippy, generous portions, good fresh food. Friendly staff and always greeted with a smile. I think they are open 7 days a week too.

Gorgeous kebabs, fish and chips. Great staff... It's that good, prepare to queue! Just along the road from totland bay so chips on the beach in the evening is bliss.

Totties is our local, large fish small chips for the two of us and the seagulls. Very very occasionally it is less than perfect but it’s a chippy. If I want healthy food or haute cuisine I go somewhere else. We have friends overseas (UK rest of the world) who insist on this being their first trip when on the island.

We ordered two portions of regular fish only. The batter was very crisp, in fact the only time I have found it crisp on the bottom as well as the top, usually it is rather soggy. The fish was a generous portion but unfortunately both pieces had a lot of bones. That is why I dropped one star.

Rang and ordered some food. Came and collected. Paid on card. We ordered a burger and chips, chicken burger and chips and fish and chips. All food was delicious, proper fish and chips. Highly recommend!!!

We collected our meal from the shop. It was beautifully cooked, the pieces of cod were enormous and the chips hot and fresh. I’d recommend this takeaway to anyone!

We buy from Totties at least once a month, we've never had a bad meal yet so I'm puzzled by some reviews. Always well cooked, generous portions, and always tasty. Their batter is different from most other chip shops but we love everything we've tried so far. The owners are really friendly too.

Was staying in Totland with other members of my family . Had fish and chips twice and one had chicken shush kebab. The fish and chips were the best I have eaten in years.Service was terrific and very quick . Thank you This only for take away but loads to choose from.

All cooked fresh to order and hot. Boneless cod, excellent scampi and very tasty "square" pizza. They weren't busy so had time for a chat, lovely owner who takes pride with his food.

We ordered two fish and chips to take away to eat on the beach at sunset, and it was lovely. Nice fish and chips and very well priced compared to what we are used to down south on the mainland. We would come again.

As a local I can speak for myself and many local residents in response to the review that was left about being ripped off. Yes they do get swamped and sometimes quality gets effected. But they would never scam anyone or charge extra. They are honest hard working people and the fact someone has written a review accusing them of ripping people off isn’t on. If you come here your in a close knit community,you can’t go spreading facts that aren’t true. Totties does great food and it’s always fresh. The pizzas are top notch!!

just ordered £57.00 worth of food on the phone and my mum has just got to the shop for them to say it was £66, my mum had already given them the money and they asked where the £9 was and she said it was £57 and they said no it was £66. He said then we are not having the food if we do not pay and already had our £57!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS seriously they’re cons

We often visit Totland as my mother lives there and have been to totties lots of times. The chicken kebab is one of the best and the chips are great. However I don’t eat wheat so only want the chicken kebab meat also don’t really eat lamb kebab. We have tried on numerous occasions to get a large chicken kebab meat and chips, but it always turns out as a mixed kebab. Also, when busy they nearly always miss something you’ve paid for if you place a big order. So to summarise it’s overpriced, slow and they often forget things you’ve paid for. But the food is so good we keep going back.

We rang through our order which was ready for collection at the time stated. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food tasted great and the portion sizes were good- three of us had good old cod and chips while husband enjoyed the mega burger. Thanks Totties!

Ordered meals for family but still had a long wait. Fish and chips terrible, shop run down and grubby.

We arrived just before the tea time rush and thank goodness we did. The queues after us were long. We had to wait for the food to be cooked and to be honest the batter on the fish was overdone but the fish was lovely. We had asked for haddock and were told it would take too long to cook???? so we had cod and chips not realising that you get a regular portion of chips with each instead of a small portion. We threw so many chips away it was a waste.

this is a proper chippy and the food was very good but unforunately around tea time it is very busy and as most food is cooked to order and the chips run out regularly it is not a quick stop and shop. I reiterate though that I enjoyed the food!

We are regular visitors to the Isle of Wight each August having great come over 2001 with one visit to Totties.Our latest, and last visit, 17 August 2019 involved ordering 5x meals.The queue was about 15 in front of us, no clear queue and only ONE member of staff working. On a Saturday night. In August.Order was given with the guy frantically sorting out other orders and not actually making eye contact, then he started typing it into the till (but not getting our order right). No receipt given. After 30 minutes, we noticed other people coming in and getting their food before us. The guy offered us some chips and asked if we were happy with them. They were tepid temperature and like cardboard. He said they were very good. We asked him to make fresh ones and he responded in a somewhat unprofessional manner. He then checked our order and the order was still not fully correct.Minutes later, another previous customer came back unhappy with his chips and received new chips. 5 minutes later, our order was complete. After asking about the curry sauce, he then went to go get it adding 2 minutes onto the waiting time. Arrival of 1915. Departure of 2015. No apology of the wait or the wrong order. Improvements to make;1. Have more than 1 staff on Saturday evening in summer2. Have an organised queuing system3. Serve customers on a first come first serve basis4. Improve customer service5. Apologise for poor serviceWe understand the busyness of a Saturday evening but, after our service, acknowledge it.We won't be returning after nearly 16 years of one visit per year.

Our usual chip shop was shut so we came across totties online, was very disappointed. Ordered and stood waiting, we were watching the way they prepared and cooked things as I have coeliacs and wanted to see if there was any contamination with the kebabs. We watched the main guy lick his fingers then proceed to open a pitta bread and start filling with the meat!!!! He then banged the tongs on the inside of the bin and carried on dishing up the meat! Absolutely disgusting.

fish inside the over cooked batter was mushy not flaky as it should be, makes me doubt its freshness, also the chips are greasy with lots of bits and pieces very poor,

My son went yesterday to get fish and chips.Upon opening them at home we found that they were utterly disgusting .The fish batter was so hard it could not be eaten, the chips were like cardboard and small portion.They had obviously been hanging around for some time and it made us think they were left overs from lunchtime ,re heated.This is not the fist time this has happened but we thought things may have improved, we were sadly wrong.The fish inside the batter was bland and just like a white paste from overheating.How anyone could possibly serve that mess to a client is byonde me.Presumably they thought that as he was young they could get away with it.Obviously no pride in their produce, or quality.Strongly advise to avoid this fish shop all costs, it was disgusting!

Went and bought Fish and Chips to take down to the beach to eat. Massive Portion sizes, but the chips were soggy and stuck together. The fish was just swimming in greasy batter. Very disappointing. Never go again

No staff, so slow. Needs to clean oil. Absolute waist of money. Nice idea to eat on the beach. Bad choice !

I phoned an order and on arrival it was ready to go! The guy I often see when I go is always polite and kind! In my opinion best fish and chips in the Island!

We'd been turned away from The Waterfront Bar & Restaurant at 9:15pm because their chef "goes home at 8:00pm" so Totties was a life-saver after a long journey to the island. Huge portions of very tasty fish and chips at a reasonable price.

Staying at a park up the road and thought we'd stop in and grab something quick to eat. Portions were large, but food quality wasn't great. The batter on our fish was so hard it was inedible.

Can't stress enough how much I love totties. I've been going here since I was a kid and it's always been great. The chips are the best you can get in the west Wight and the staff are great. The prices are very reasonable and the service is always quick. Can't recommend them enough!

I ordered a medium cod and chips. I had to wait for the fish to be cooked which I consider to be the best rather than have dried out fish cooked at an unknown time. Once home I found the portion of fish was very large as was the chips. The fish was delicious, perfectly cooked. The batter had a good flavour. The chips were good. Having had cod and chips from the Rainbow last week I must say that Totties were far better. Parking is easy outside. The shop also sells kebabs etc.

Best chippie around. Make sure you are hungry, portions are really generous but so good you will munch the lot.

There are two fish and chip shops in freshwater and Totties leaves you feeling valued and not another punter. The portions are generous, the fish delicious and they can cater for the people with food allergies , so if batter is not something you can tolerate, then they do what is known as a rice cone as well.

Went to Totties while on IOW for a holiday. Food was overpriced, over cooked, and served with re-fried chips that were swimming in grease. Had to wait 35 minutes, people served before me who came in after. Stomach pains all night, and feeling sick. Will never go back. Disgusting place. Give this place a wide berth!

Although we ordered our take away 90 mins before we needed it it was not ready when we went to pick it up. It is a very busy take away serving a lot of different food. There was only two staff serving but after wait the food was ready. Two of our party had pizza these are square which makes a change but were very nice. We also ordered Cheese mushroom garlic bread which turned out to be a small pizza which was nice but could not taste any garlic. The others in the party had sausage and chips which was also very nice. It was worth the wait and would go there again

Unfortunately the evening we went the fryer had packed in so we had a diner kebab each which we would have been fine with one between us, first kebab in years quiet nice.

Well, what can I say, The 2 guys working here, were obviously over worked, seriously over worked... Phone going off every 2 or 3 minutes, taking orders, and dealing with a very busy reception. Then things get even worse, why I waited for half and hour to even get served is beyond me, anyway, the food itself was go greasy , so very greasy, the chips just tasted fake, if that makes sense, almost chemical like, we ordered cod and chips twice, and the cod was also gooey , cooked way to fast in what I can only describe as a seriously hard core trans fat. We had a few chips, tasted the cod, then threw it all away, when we noticed the cod wasn't even cooked properly.

Just massive amount of food but was pretty tasty. There is no way you need to buy a portion each of you go here, seriously! All cooked fresh in front of us though which was good.

Fish and chips are freshly cooked to order and fish is lovely and flaky. Only shame was we couldn't eat it all, but it was good value for money.

A huge piece of plaice and mountains of chips. So much in fact, my doggies had to help me out. Quick service with hot food. Much visited 2 years ago and today it is just as good. Knocks spots off the Rainbow at Freshwater.

As a family we used this chip shop for many years whilst out and about , we go down to the bay which is beautiful on a sunset night. As normal I ordered my family meals, not to much of a wait. Got my food went down the front and started eating . The food was not it’s usual standard so I decided to take it back. I asked the chef what was wrong with the meals, he said nothing, I said you try some. He then went a got me a fresh meal and asked if The was ok. No it was just as bad. It turned out they were reheated from earlier. Put in the microwave. Had a job getting a refund , I have never been back for over a year now.

Great takeaway - friendly geezer running it - delicious food and quick turnaround Chicken sandwich was nice - loads of chips, very generous portions and competitively priced - good on the go food !!!

Excellent size portions of tasty fish and chips here. Very convenient place to go if just looking for a quick meal, or if arrive late, after the restaurants have closed.

An evening out, had to visit a fast food restaurant around Freshwater Local area... so decided to choose Totties. Well priced and a good portion for it. However I found that my battered sausage was presented rockhard on the outside (harder than the usual batter) and very soft within. Other than that minor fault it was delicious!

Our first night on the Isle of Wight and we needed to walk the dogs and find some food. Totties was about 20 minutes walk from our cottage and on the way to the sea. We had quick service and good food that we ate watching the sea which is about a further 5 minutes walk down the road.

We needed sustanance on our late arrival on the Island

Had a takeaway from here the other night and it was ok. 4 kebabs and one cheeseburger. The burger had a bizarre texture but tasted ok. Kebabs were massive but poor choice of salad

I'm funny about fish and chips, I don't really like seafood, but I'll eat a cod and chips if the fish is fresh. These fish and chips were the best I've had in a long time! And for the price I pay back home, you could feed 4 people off my meal! Huge portions!!! Freshly cooked fresh cod and perfect chips. Your reputation is unharmed!!! So good!

We love Totties the food is great although chips can be a bit hit and miss. Chicken sandwich is amazing kebabs are lush all round a great takeaway.

Decided to call in after reading good reviews on Google.It was late on a Wednesday lunchtime so maybe that affected what we got?Fish was prepared fresh and large portions. A bit greasy but nice fish inside batter.Chips weren't very good. They were greasy and left an unpleasant aftertaste. Think the oil was too old and they weren't fresh.Overall very disappointing.

The worst fish and chips I have ever been presented with. The fish was small, heavy in batter, completely overcooked and dry inside whilst laden with grease on the outside. The batter was poor to start with and the oil old and cold hence the long wait and cooking problems. The chips were just the same with cold oil dripping from the bag - avoid at all costs.

moved to the island 4/5 months ago we never knew this existed- have been using another shop- tried it when other place was temporarily shut and our neighbours told us about it. very friendly staff, generous portions, good food- only negative comment would be the day we visited was probably not their best chips day- in my opinion- but maybe its just me- I do prefer a bit of crunch on outside and soft inside, they were much too soft for me.made a note that they do burgers, pizza and kebabs too. good to know. will try them again.

We had seen good reviews from others so visited for the last day of the holiday fish and chips. Ordered two fish and a large chips between us. The fish was like a whale and enough chips for three. Lovely fish and crisp batter. Better have an appetite.

We were staying in Colwell Bay so this was our nearest chippie. It's menu is varied & food cooked to order. We learned to call ahead to order so we didn't have to wait so long. They do all the usual chippie type food plus pizzas, kebabs & burgers. We went back a few times. Would recommend - they were friendly & the place looked nice & clean. We certainly weren't poorly after any of the food we ate from there so that has to be a bonus! :-)

We are grateful to enjoy this very useful Take-Out Fish & Chip Shop in our Village, they can be relied upon to produce freshly cooked tasty Fish or, other product, even Pizza, usually within 15/20 minutes. I have no hesitation in recommending Totties, at any time of the year.

Fish n chips, kebab and chips ? this the place to go , im very, very critical about the food and resterants and takealways in freshwater and totland area , only reason being most of the food that gets served up is poor.but totties is bang on the money, friendly staff, good food and good prices too.they are open when you need them ( unlike the the other chippy in freshwater ) But beware of the portion size before you order..They give you loads..keep up the good work guys

On our way back from a day at the Needles, we stopped at 'Totties' for some sustenance.Our young girls wanted 'Fish Bites & Chips' so we ordered, paid and took our stash down to Totland Bay to eat by the seaside.Upon opening our haul, it was clear that we could well have ordered half as much and STILL been completely stuffed!The fish bites should more aptly be called 'Whale Chunks' because they are HUGE! Plump, white cod pieces in good batter. The adult fish portions are similarly extravagant.The chips were delicious - proper seaside chips - tasty and moreish.If you do eat down at Totland Bay - beware the gulls - they will have the food out of your hands!Totties offers a full range of foods - kebabs, burgers, pizzas along with the usual chip-shop fayre.AND....they're open on Sundays too.Fab.

Rang ahead tonight so pizza and chips would be ready for my husband to pick up afrer work as they always have a queue at tea time. Absolutely delish...... piping hot.masses of topping and lovely chips!!! Thank you guys!!!! X

This was one tired and run down chip shop, trying to get by as a kebab shop now as well as a chip shop. One poor man trying to make it up with customer service and one guy just a waste of space and a wasted pay check I suspect. This was a classic fish and chip shop in Totland now just about to die. shame.

Really looked forward to fish and chips on our first evening on holiday. However having placed the order we had to wait half an hour (nothing special ordered just fish and chips with a saveloy). Not the staff's fault -only two guys there, a shop full of people and a phone constantly ringing. The main chap looked shattered to be honest, I almost answered the phone for him to help him out! Chips soggy and my daughter's fish had slimy batter in places so I was really disappointed. If the staff increased I think it would result in much nicer food.

We were very pleased to find a fish and chip shop open as we had got a later ferry than intended due to the less than efficient motorway(car park) network.The general atmos of the shop however was a bit like when a stranger walks into the locals bar in a western film. I am of average height and build , do not have 3 heads or use offensive language but you could almost sense the tumbleweed blowing by ,such was the frosty welcome.The food was pleasant enough and plenty of it but certainly won't be going back.

Visited Totties as Tottie it is my daughters nickname and she wanted to go. Portions are huge but it is very good fish and cooked to order.

Whenever I buy from Totties the food is always good, my wife and I order a jumbo cod and large chips which is more than adequate for us to share. The menu is large with the usual finds of a traditional chip shop but with a wide range of pizzas, chicken, burgers and kebabs all delicious.

The fish and chips very good and affordable, but not so keen on the pizzas, but friendly and easily accessible.

We used Totties twice during our recent stay on the Island. First time we ordered large cod and large chips for 4...WOW when I saw the size of the fish I thought they had slipped a whale into the bag instead, and a large chips were enough to feed 4 of us plus the gulls down on Totland beach.Second time we had Donna Kebebs again the portion were massive and I couldn't eat it all, none of us managed to eat it all.In all good take way outlet, service good, very popular, they take phone orders.gets very busy in the evenings. parking no problems after about six in the car park opposite.

Take away selling fish, chips, kebabs, pizza etc. Long opening hours so is convenient and can park on street out side if picking up. Totland beach is just down the road ( walking distance)

We were unsure of this fish and chip shop as I couldn't find any reviews but I'm glad we stopped. The fish was amazing so fresh and very large... great value for money. The chips were very well cooked and very tasty.

While visiting relative over the West Wight, We decided to grab some fish and chips for 4 people. A couple of jumbo cod 2 portions of chips , onions ring a sausage and batter and a few other things, Total about £35. This has to be the most foulest vile food we have ever had. Unwrapped the food and the chips were one big ball of oily soggy goo. The batter was so oil soaked and over cooked it was inedible. The opinion rings were appalling. We picked at the best of the cod that they had manage to destroy and chucked the rest. Even the dog refused to eat it. It was truly shocking, really it was, we all looked at each other in disbelief. Its a disgrace to the Fish and Chip industry of the U.K... i will actively discourage people from going there. If Totties are going to be that cynical about food then they should be closed down...

Lovely piece of well cooked fish it must of been the only one on the boat it was that big great batter and a heap of chips really enjoyed them will go again without a doubt

Ordered from totties as this was the nearest open chip shop in the area and unfortunately we don't enjoy their food usually anyway, but this experience is the worst.We ordered our food and returned home. Upon opening the bag, there was grease dripping from the onion rings and solidifying in the bag. The onion rings, although fresh battered onion, we're tasteless and oily.The burgers had been wrapped in paper, which were then covered in the grease from the onion rings. The burgers were ordered with salad, this comprised of raw onion, carrot and tomato sauce with minimal lettuce. The chips were mediocre at best and we were missing 2 battered sausages.This was our worst experience of the takeaway and a thoroughly disappointing meal.

Great Pizzas square which is different really nice and with a portion of chips went down a treat! Have a good selection of take away food

Ordered two large Donor kebabs and took them back to our holiday bungalow to eat them for tea. Absolutely delicious.

Regular fish and chips is huge, top end prices for quite a greasy fish though is not the worst that I've ever had. If we were to visit again we'd share a jumbo.

Recently got a takeaway for large group. Phoned in advance which proved a good move as the place was packed when we went to collect. Portions of chips large but chips on the soggy side. Kebabs good but didn't compare to our local back home...but then I suppose they never do. Sevice friendly and quick and food averagely priced.

Being a resident of Totland, Totties is my local chippy. In 5 years their has only been one dip in the quality of the food.Large portions which are very nice and cooked to order. This means that you have to wait a while longer but at least you know it is fresh and hot

OK but soggy chips and not the best fish. Wide range of produce to take away but some degree of narrowing selection in favour of quality would help.

Totties went down hill for abit if I'm honest. But lately it's gone back to how it used to be!! Fish was lovely and chunky no bones,chicken kebab was great. We will return!!

Whilst the portions were plentiful, our fish and chips were greasy, with the batter for the fish undercooked. I will add that I wouldn't normally knock a small business, but the two workers were miserable, and a tad rude.
