worst doner kebab I've ever had, I ordered doner kebab, and a separate portion of chips come to £11 which I thought was quite expensive considering the chips were in a tiny packet and virtually inedible absolutely rock hard I couldn't physically break them down in my mouth and the kebab was all dumped in a tray with my mayo and they put the pita bread on the outside to build my own bloody kebab, so as you can guess got mayo and crap all over my fingers, the pita was also stale and hard.The meat just did not taste right really greasy think I left 3/4 of this, avoid like the plague I wish I'd read the reviews before I went in there first chip shop ever in my life that I've not been able to chew the chips as they were so hard.

It is the best kebab we have ever had and the cheese & garlic chips are amazing, shame we only find it on our last day otherwise would have definitely gone again, will be our first stop next time

Ordered cod and chips. Cod was fine, chips were inedible, some floppy, some hard, tasteless. Believe they were microwaved after frying. Sent several emails to resolve but no answers to date. Will definitely not be returning

Really disappointed, just had battered sausage, chips & curry sauce and it was awful! Asked for salt and vinegar but chips were bland and tasteless, brown soggy and greasy (not in a good way), sausage batter tasted like dirty oil and the curry sauce watery and hardly any flavour! Now having a pot noodle for dinner instead! Never been amazing food from Samels but this time round pretty much inedible, won’t be returning again!

Staff are great. Shame the food isn’t. Chips are cold and chewy. Fish cakes are cremated.

Brilliant food and a free pen also!

Went there yesterday evening and so glad I found it! Three haddock and chips and the fish was first class. Spoke to Sam and the staff and they were all so friendly despite me arriving shortly before closing. Highly recommend!

Only ever ordered deliverys but this takeaway is always consistent. Kebabs are of a decent size and not caped in grease.best takeaway in east cowes by far! Chips are chippy chips and not frozen fries from bookers/medina etc. These guys can do well if they remain consistent.👍.

I totally recommend their sausages they are so lush and the chips are just the normal chips you’d expect from a chippy.

First time customers. Welcoming and efficient staff. Fish was thick, flaky and with a thin crisp batter. Delicious and very large portions. The owner didn't feel that the fish size warranted the large label and added a second piece. He needn't have done this as we wouldn't have noticed. Chips had crisp outer and fluff inside. Highly recommended. We will return regularly. Thank you. Service like this is rare.

Food has always been amazing...only place on the island I'll get a kebab and have never been disappointed yet.

How ridiculous last week they delivered to medina park this week they don't and won't in the future missing out as all other eateries deliver

Good freshly cooked while-u-wait fish & chips, esp if you like your cod with the skin still on. Shop exceptionally clean, - not all are, and the staff attitude is first class. Would go there again. Recommended.

Best fish and chips in East cowes

Disappointed to be honest; seeking tasty comfort food after a bad day but a large chips was £4 & yet was actually a bag the size of a small portion from anywhere else. They were all very dry, brown & tasteless, despite asking for plenty of salt & vinegar, & all the food was lukewarm.

Waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food arrived luke warm and driver was slightly rude must of been rushing maybe more staff would be an improvement

Ordered a pizza last night with medium chips to be delivered. An hour later and was advised it would take about an hour the food arrived. Dished out on plates and was stone cold, not even luke warm. Phoned to complain to be advised by lady would I like a fresh pizza or refund. Both wife and I did not want to wait longer after finishing work late. We then microwaved which we all know then changes the taste. Chips very soggy and pizza like rubber. About two thirds way through eating rubber pizza a knock on our front door to collect pizza for refund????? Lady did not mention when phoned. Attended Samels this evening to collect refund and was refused. Customer service absolutely appalling. Owner showed no signs of being sorry or cared. Will never use these premises again, and will report to trading standards

Brilliant amazing food and service

Not a huge fan of this takeaway, I've lived down the road from it for 10+ years and used it a handful of times. Never greeted with a smile, never given a minute for a chat. The food itself is that of a standard chip shop, nothing special at all. I've been more disappointed than satisfied with the quality of food.

Take out order took 35 minutes. The Pitta bread for the kebab was rock solid. Chips were dry and disgusting. The staff had no idea what they were doing, totally unorganised. One staff member was talking about a customer after she left the shop because the customer had complained about the time delay, I thought this was very rude. Definitely wouldn't be going back again, or recommending to others.

I have been using samels since I was a little lad from back in the 90s. Still running with the original owners. The chips are still as good as they tasted all those years ago.

Very small portions. Mine looked like a childs position at best . Which made the already high prices even more extortionate. Food was ok but would not recommend or go back.

Clean quick and friendly service, sadly very expensive due in part to general price inflation. Example Small Fish Small Chips and carton curry sauce more than £9

Can never get through on the phone and there is no app or website to order on. Not even a basic email messaging system to request a callback which some take aways who cannot afford to develop their website are now running - come on we are in 2022!

Cracking food & customer service

Very average fish and chips - Fish was full of bones - Wouldn't rush back. Wait wasn't too bad but obviously taking allot of delivery orders

Ordered this evening with partner: Cheese and bacon burger, chicken burger, 2 x 6 peace portion chicken wings, egg, wally and curry sause. Cheese burger was OK. Egg and wally was as expected but everything else was just awful, even the curry sause was lumpy as if not even mixed properly had a few mouthfuls and was otherwise all binned. Wings were as though they'd been cooked for hours. Chicken burger was flat and sloppy and chips were soggy and cold!!!

Ordered food for delivery. Called after waiting for an hour and was told they are very busy and orders were taking up to an hour and a half, waited for another hour still no food so called again to be told my order had been lost, so had to wait another half hour until finally got my order after two and a half hours. Hence I shall not be using again. Sadly this was not the first time this had happened !

Don't waste you money the food was disgusting dry chips nasty cheep sausages over cooked and burnt again don't bother

First time of using waited 40 mins in the not so busy chip shop and both ended up with mild food poisoning. Won't be going back again.

Good food, good portions, good prices

A very nice meal ordered to pick up, i had a farmhouse pizza which was done very well and the base was not too thick and doughy unlike many other takeaways, lots of toppings and tasted great. I love the battered sausages they do here and the chips were of great quality and done well. Recommended.

Kebab was nice, as were the chips.

Stopped using as fed up of getting the wrong order delivered. Then there was also the problem of just getting them to answer the bloody phone, and a price hike to boot. Get a better meal at the weatherspoons and cheaper as well.

I visited Isle of Wight past summer and we ordered takeaway from Samels. Very good options to choose from. Kebabs, fish and chips, pizza. Quality/value ratio is excellent. I will be going back to there on my next trip as well.

Just collected and enjoyed a bag of fish and chips. Really tasty and now I cant move for food. Thank you Samels for a delicious lunch.

I would have loved to say we enjoyed our fish’s chips but, sadly, they were very disappointing. The fish was just passable but the chips were dreadful. They looked and tasted like barely heated soggy leftovers. How can an establishment that relies on chips with most things produce these? If they were cheap maybe I could understand inferior food but in fact they’ve hiked their prices considerably. Sorry to say we won’t be going there again!

I rang them about 20 times after 10pm but there website says it shuts at 11 this is false advertising I didn't order my food earlier because I went off there website information. Thanks for nothing

Still average reasonable food. Chips ok. Kebab meat still ok. Everything ‘ok’. Had worse. Had better.

Rubbish service, an hour for our food and the order was wrong i realised when i got home, absolute joke.

Take away fish and chip shop favourites and kebabs and pizza's all in one place. Good pricing, good service, will use again and again...

Been on lock down for three weeks now, We haven’t had a takeaway for over two months since we moved to east cowes So walked up to get fish n chips It’s best battered sausage and chips I’ve had for a long long time

So frustrated and disgusted over my local takeaway. Continuous mistakes near enough every order and friends/family have had the same problem. Not only was the order wrong but when I called to explain I was confronted with rude staff telling me that I was in the wrong (what happened to the customer is always right), finally they decided to send me the correct meals of which partly included literally a tea spoonful of garlic mayo in which was told it would be a pot as they messed up the order.. Then when the delivery arrived the delivery driver banged on the door so loud in which I have a ten month old baby asleep inside... But he then shouts at me in the street for about ten minutes whilst he's shouting at me, I slammed the door shut and he continued to shout and scream all ods.

Food cold, always a long wait for someone to answer the phone. When the orders are right the food is nice but this seems to be rare at the moment

The food was tasty and not greasy or soggy. The downside is it is very popular so you have to wait for your order.

Good fish and chips, not too greasy. The gravy was a little thin and there was confusion over the order but not enough to take away a star. Pizza's can either be excellent or soggy, all depends on if they get the bases nice and crispy.

Popped in to get a simple order of fish and chips. They take your money and then expect you to wait whilst they prioritised phone orders. Waited over 20 minutes which is totally pathetic! I asked when my order would be dealt to be rudely told "wait your turn we've phone orders to do." At one point felt like asking for my money back and walking out. Wish l had. When l eventually got served the food was poor with a strange taste. Will NEVER go again!

WE had 2 lots of food from this place, very good & tasty, can recommend the chicken kebab, so well cooked & moist with taste. The batter on the fish is so light, the fish taste good too.

A good local good value chip shop that also does, kebabs, pizzas and delivers! They are open every evening from 5.00pm apart from Sunday, the people that work in there are lovely and up for a chat and a laugh, the service is always speedy. The pizzas there are yummy, my husband always goes for their kebabs, which he says are good. The only criticism is if you go early sometimes the chips are not the best, but when they good they are really good 😋

The evening I was there was very busy. A lot of people standing around waiting for over half an hour to get their food. To be fair the phone was ringing non stop with people ordering for delivery or collection and I guess the staff were doing their best but things need to change. Either get more staff or stop answering the phone and get on and deal with the people who are there and waiting.Two small cod and chips were £5.80 each. Not a particularly generous piece of fish. The cod and chips were pretty greasy.A chicken burger was £3.80. A frozen chicken burger dropped in the deep fat fryer and put in a bap is really not very imaginative or appetising. No garnish. Nothing with it. Pretty awful and a rip off to be honest.A cheeseburger was at least cooked on the grill, but again a burger and slice of processed cheese in a bap is uninspiring.There is a lot of room for improvement here. Needs some local competition to show them how could be done and to, hopefully, make them raise their standards.

Great food great price great staff

We have tried food from here on numerous occasions and I do not understand the volume of negative reviews on here! Competitors or trolls? Who knows!The pizzas are freshly made and are very good and at reasonable prices compared to a pizza franchise! The kebabs are very tasty and are made to order. I don’t eat the salad so can’t comment on this aspect. The chips are usually very good and well cooked - I hate undercooked chips and these are normally just right!Good food at sensible prices and cooked to order. Enough said.

Generally avoid the chips here, as do most of the town, pizza is pretty good for the money, and kebabs have been OK when collecting, although have waited for nearly an hour at times. So, had delivery tonight. Mixed kebab in pitta, with salad and sauce separate..Arrived when estimated, but pitta bread was burned, had to be snapped rather than torn, the sauce was separate, but salad not. Donner meat OK, but chicken completely inedible, dried out and like bits of cork. Boiling it up to give to the dog who may also reject it!Cheap, but pretty awful really, and a neighbour had chips there tonight for the first time, and they were awful as usual.

Update on last review, June '19.. Have had pizza a couple of times as part of pool team and pretty good for the money, but a woeful experience tonight on delivery. Mixed kebab: pitta bread burned and rock hard, salad mixed with kebab not separate as requested, chicken inedible, dried out and like leather, which I'm boiling up for the dog...and I hear the chips are still awful.. I'm from East Cowes and have been going to this place for over 40 years in previous guises, although lived mainly in Manchester and Birmingham for 20+ years until last year. This place wouldn't last 6 months there, or probably anywhere else on the mainland, or island for that matter. —————— Was looking forward to walking home on a snowy night with some chips and sausage. Sausage was OK, but chips absolutely horrible, overcooked and dried out, yet cold, just chewy remnants really😖. It can't be difficult for a chippy to do chips to a decent standard, surely.

We had a kebab here before catching the ferry, great food right next to East Cowes ,the fish n chips looked really good too-an excuse to go there again .

Really recommend getting a takeaway from here. Love the pizzas. I have ordered from here a lot over the last year and never had any problems with my food. Really friendly staff. Never been late on delivery.

Great for vegetarians! The owner is veggie so makes sure that vegetarian items are cooked and stored away from meat and fish. Really nice staff too.

We thought this place would be idea as just arrived on the Island off the ferry. How wrong could we be. The food was awful. Chips soggy and fish full of bones and black. Very disappointed.

Disgusting food, badly cooked. Utter rubbish., The whole lot went in the bin as we didn't risk eating the raw undercooked mess that was served to us.

Mouth-watering quality food and friendly service

Fantastic Chippery Delicious! Child portions (really fine for a grown up too) and vegetarian options from Mel's fish and pizza bars, them Sami's fabulous sizzling meaty kebabs perfectly grilled & juicy wrapped up in pitta breads and salads. Staff very helpful - I asked for garlic sauce instead of S&V on my chips - no problems! The prices have been held over since 2017, making them a very reasonable option. Brexit may change all that though, Mel tells me. Rightly popular with the locals. Home delivery also available. Yum yum yum. HIGHLY recommended.

Love this takeaway never had a bad meal

After a few takeaways, hoping it would be be better each time, the food is absolutely hideous. It's always undercooked, or has been hot on the outside and cold in the middle. The cheese on top of their food is disgusting I can't even explain it, and is never melted!The pizza is always undercooked. The takeaway boxes are always dripping with greese. I strongly don't recommend this place. I think this place is becoming lazy and there is not alot of competition, so they can get away with what they make.
