A lovely peaceful location with glorious views from our twin room. The property is an interesting one, old mixed with updates in the rooms. The staff were brilliant, especially Ann, nothing too much trouble along with an excellent breakfast. Felt very safe in these strange times of coming out of lockdown. Would certainly return.

Spent 3 nights here. Distancing and sanitising excellent with one- way system in / out. Disappointingly evening meals were not on offer during Covid 19 times, but c'est la vie! Breakfasts excellent in choice and all freshly prepared. Be wary if booking a standard, double room. We accept this may not have a view (into a wall / roof), but the room was tiny - the 'Wee Room'! It really was only of single size, though did have all facilites - tea /coffee tray, toiletries etc. Shower was standard size but to use the tiny sink we had either to kneel on the toilet or lean over it! We asked to change but the guest house was fully booked, which it otherwise deserves to be!! We did not know in advance we'd been allocated the 'Wee Room, of which there seems to be two.

My wife and i recently stayed two nights at the Torrs Warren Country House Bed and Breakfast Hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On arrival at reception we were shown around the hotel and then shown our room. We thought this was a welcome personal touch. Measures were in place re Covid 19. Hand hygiene stations were in place and a one way system for entering and leaving the building was in place. The hotel is a former church manse and has great charm and character. The breakfast was super. We chose not to have cereals but had orange juice and tea along with a traditional Scottish breakfast. What a breakfast it was. Sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding, potato scone, tomato, mushrooms, haggis and beans. All very well cooked. The level of customer service we experienced at Torrs Warren was outstanding. All the staff were friendly and very customer focused. A very enjoyable stay which we hope to repeat in the future.

I recently visited this small country hotel on the edge of a small village 1mile from Sandhead. It had a well kept garden with views over fields, countryside with and the sea in the distance. This was on a bed and breakfast deal. I got a warm welcome at reception on arrival, explaining their dining room was open for breakfast only but due to covid pandemic no evening meals were available. Alternatively they would book meals at nearby eating places. The bedroom was small but very clean and suited my needs with tea/coffee facilities TV/dvd . The ensuite shower great, but the washhand basin was on top of the toilet which made it a bit awkward to stretch over and shave or wash hands. Due to the restrictions there was a one way system, hand sanitizers and screen at reception and all staff wore adequate face visors. Overall this is a great hotel and I would definitely go back for a future stay, breakfast was excellent

Just had a four night stay , the Torrs warren is a superb place to stay, the owners have obviously put in lots of time and effort and no doubt a considerable sum of money. Both the owners and the staff are very welcoming. Beds are very comfy, room was spotlessly clean. Good supply of tea, coffee ,water and biscuits in the room. Very big shower and strong wifi. Sadly due to the uncertainty of the covid issue, the evening food menu is not running and the bar on reduced hours. When this is all up and running properly, it will be so much better. There is always a downside and Torrs Warren is no different. Cooked breakfast was a little bland and the dinning room area far too hot. It seemed like every heater and radiator was on. However, that said, I would very happily recommend Torrs Warren to anyone, and will definitely return in the future.

My wife and I often stay in this area en route to the ferry but this was our first time at Torrs Warren. It was excellent. We had got a really good rate for dinner, bed and breakfast so unsurprisingly our room was small but nonetheless very comfortable. The staff were very welcoming, cheerful and friendly. The hotel was lovely throughout with a large residents' lounge, small but nice bar and comfortable dining room. We had an excellent dinner, my wife rated her salmon as good as any she'd ever eaten. Breakfast was in a nice airy conservatory and very good. I would recommend this place highly and we will certainly be back. I will, however, pay a bit extra next time and get a bigger bedroom!

We regularly eat out here and the food and service is second to none. Our server for the majority of our visits is a lovely woman called Anne. She's always so proffesional and nothing is too much trouble. As we do enjoy eating out at the Torrs Warren it can be so incredibly frustrating when you use the number saved to your phone to book a table and you get the message ''this number isn't recognised'' and yet a couple of days later it rings straight through. We are both getting to the point whereby we are seriously considering just looking for somewhere else to eat as the hotel never seems to be open for none residents just looking to book a table for the night. I gave the restaurant a 'Very Good' rating as it is indeed very good service and food (when you can get booked in).

Transporting ourselves across the breadth of Scotland to Stoneykirk and the Torrs Warren, we were greeted and shown into a bar area – where we espied the tartan effect dining area - that exuded a warmth and charm that set the tone for the rest of the evening. Without ado we ordered a bottle and sipped our first glass of a superb Pinot Grigio, as we perused the al a carte menu, at a leisurely pace. We ordered grilled fresh Scottish salmon along with fresh vegetables and it was mouth-wateringly delicious, cooked to perfection. For dessert I totally indulged myself in the best-ever bountiful assortment of ice creams and sorbets. The service was impeccable – the lasses displayed courteous merriment - and after dining we were taken to a sumptuous lounge, with its deep cushioned sofas and subtle lighting and while my partner enjoyed a pot of tea, I completed the marvellous dining experience with strong black coffee and, of course, a wee dram of whisky.

Stayed there 3 nights. Very helpful owner. Bed not so comfortable and shower room quite small. Well placed to visit places of interest without having to drive long distances.Breakfast served in the conservatory was excellent with good choice of well cooked food. We wished that the Dinner had also been served in the same room as it was a bright and airy room. The restaurant/bar while being quite atmospheric made you feel more like you were in a pub to eat pub food when that wasn't the case. The food was excellent. The menu changes but on one night the change menu had 2 dishes unavailable - on a fairly limited choice( but sufficient variety) any way that shouldn't happen.

My husband stayed here for work for 2 nights recently. He was given a room called the wee room and it apparently lives up to its name. Although small the room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. He had no complaints regarding the breakfast. Full scottish breakfast as well as plenty of toast and cereal. A mix up with the key meant he had to arrange a key to allow access to the hotel be left in a safe place as the hotel locks its front door after 9pm and there is no night staff on duty however the owners do reside on the grounds and are available if required. The waiting and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful.

Torrs Warren, is a cosy little hotel in a fantastic setting, close for Stranraer and could be walked to via the backroads and paths or wouldn’t be an inexpensive by taxi, friends had given good reports. The poor waitress was trying her best, the wine was nice. I can understand using the football on Tv to encourage people in, but it didn’t enhance the setting. The food was a mixture of poor quality, stale, undercooked and in bizarre portions, unfortunately we won’t be rushing back!

Lovely quiet location, set in the countryside, short trip to Stranraer. Great base for getting around the lovely coastal villages. Friendly staff who couldn't have been warmer and helpful. I like somewhere with a homely feel, not luxurious. This was perfect, clean and full of antique charm. Jim made us very welcome and was a great host, the barmaid/waitress was excellent and had a chat with all guests and compared Jim to Basil Fawlty, he did resemble him a bit in looks not nature! Very quiet at bedtime and slept well. Got up to a lovely breakfast cooked by a lady with a warm smile and very attentive. Will go back. Thanks everyone!

The problem with the Torrs warren is consistency. I`ve had great meals and extremely bland meals there. Sometimes its easy for chefs to disguise microwave food and sometimes it isn`t. Basic things like seasoning is overlooked. But all in all a decent enough place.

We visited on a weekday lunchtime and ate in the bar. Pleasant old fashioned surroundings and friendly service but food quality is lacking for the price bracket. Everything was plentiful and piping hot. We had the biggest basket of chips you've ever seen served between us but they were of the skinny frozen type. Our veg was frozen on the most part - if not all, but was nice enough. The breaded haddock was seriously overbreaded and concealed frozen fish which was a bit watery. With main course prices around £8.95, it just wasn't good enough. Huge portions again for dessert but didn't make up for the strange texture which, I suspect, owed much to a microwave. They do a two course lunch special at £10.95 which offers improved value but there are better places in the area in the same price bracket.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.
