We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

Delicious food and lovely, friendly service. We’ve visited twice now while holidaying locally and we’d eat there every day if we could! From the fish and chips to the steak pie, all food was hot and tasty, steak pie was the best I’ve tasted.

Friendly staff and a nice garden with some good tunes playing while we waited on our food with some cold drinks. Very warm day and they had us nicely spaced out with good seating and plenty of shade if required. Loads of customers arrived at same time and the staff patiently worked their way through everyone and kept people informed of wait times for food. Decent hearty menu with a good range of choice. All the food being served up looked equally delish. We had mix of burgers wraps and sandwiches at our table and all were excellent. Definitely drop in again!

We arrived in Sanquhar at lunchtime and decided to eat before our walk. We spotted the Nithdales Hotel and it’s sign eat here. So we thought ok! We had a booth. The place was very clean and the staff were organising the social distancing and track and trace very well. We ordered: ham, eggs and chips; vegetable lasagne; macaroni cheese and southern friend chicken wrap. All come out well presented and hot. Always a good sign of a well run and caring kitchen. We had two diet cokes and a tea. All came to under £40. I would certainly recommend the restaurant and would eat here again if in the town again. The staff were very friendly and it’s obviously a well run hotel, bar and restaurant.

Obviously due to covid-19 places aren't having people sit in for food so The Nithsdale started a home delivery service to try keep the customers and locals happy. Much appreciated by all the community as food is lovely. Have ordered 3 times now and each time we have been greeted on phone by kind friendly staff and always given an estimate of how long food will be. Food arrives hot and is always a joy to sit and eat. Would recommend trying if you haven't already done so

Working in the area so popped in for a midweek dinner. Had veg soup to start which was lovely then Caledonian chicken for main. I order this (usually called Balmoral chicken) regular enough it various places but it can be a disappointment as not done right. The first thing here in the Nitsdale hotel that encouraged me is that I was advised it would be a 20 min wait for the chicken, this is a positive I thought as it will be cooked fresh. Fresh it was and when served was presented very well and tasted delightful. Very good experience and happy to come back. Came back I did as for the Sunday roast deal, around £15 for 3 courses. Once again it was a great feed, kind of food that should be done right but amazing the places that don't get it right. Pate to start and roast beef for main were fantastic but the dessert, a sticky toffee pudding was the highlight in a very good value and quality meal, served by great staff in particular Jade who does a fantastic job between the bar and the restaurant. Will be back in to sample the menu further as I work around here, thoroughly recommend

My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner, having been married at the adjoining hotel three years previously. We decided to go all out and order a three course meal. My partner had the soup, which was lentil, clearly homemade, a piping hot thick bowl of soup with two slices of thick, crusty bread and butter. I had the pate with oatcakes and a chutney, it was divine. Well flavoured, with enough oatcakes to pâté ratio. The chutney was fruity with a slight kick which was a welcome balanced flavour to compliment the pate. For the main my hubby had the steak pie, with chips, which was a heart portion, with massive chunks of tender steak in a rich meaty gravy, topped with a beautifully golden pastry lid and a superb portion of chips. I had the chicken balmoral with vegetables which was a succulent chicken breast stuffed with haggis, wrapped in smoked bacon served with boiled potatoes and fresh vegetables with a whisky cream sauce. This again was beautiful. The sauce was lovely, and not too overpowering, the chicken was moist and beautifully cooked. For dessert we both opted for a slice of chocolate fudge cake served with ice cream. This was to die for. A thick slice of triple layered fudge cake served hot with smooth vanilla ice cream. It was divine. We had a few of the signature oasis cocktails with our meal, including a strawberry daiquiri, a disoronno sour and a woo woo. Which were all amazing. I did have cheeky mojito as well to cleanse my palate. We had a wonderful experience at the Oasis, it was a warm, welcoming restaurant with friendly staff who couldn’t do more to please the patrons of the establishment that evening. I will certainly dine here again and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Where to begin, from the outside the place looks fantastic. Upon entry your met with a cute little dog, who enjoys a good belly rub. The dog was awesome...and that's where the awesomeness stopped. Empty restaurant at first we thought it was due to low season but now I'm sure it's because they serve reheated cardboard. We had the combo starter and the pate. Decent enough starter, can't complain for the price The mains; Chicken cardb... Caledonia Tough chicken wrapped in tough bacon. What an adventure this meal was, they always say food is a journey so I guess this was a journey to the local tip/dump? The chicken was hard as rocks and was clear it must have been precooked and then heat up for when a customer orders. It was dry, tasteless and very hard to cut/chew. Maybe next time I should ask for a steak knife for my chicken. Chicken Stroganoff - Edible microwave meal. Had to go to the toilet during dinner, now I'm a tall guy. Walked through to the toilet to skelp my head off a low edge, there is no "Mind your Head" sign, but there is a sign for "Watch for the Step" I was too busy looking for the non existent step to realise low roof, atleast I'll always remember the place and the souvenir of a big lump on my head I got. Oh one last thing! Upon entry we were asked if they could take our jackets, upon leaving we found them just chucked on one of the bar seats? Hopefully the kitchen staff where just having a bad night, we all have them Service wise, Sam was amazing and attentive, great guy.

Travel through Sanquhar many times but never really stopped. This time we did and went to the Oasis for a very simple Soup & Sandwich. Soup was home made Cream of Leek, very tasty. Sandwich was a Cheese & Ham, filling was so big the cheese fell out the sides. Now that's a sandwich. Staff were very nice. Place was spotlessly clean. Great find on a wet Monday afternoon.

We stayed at a farmhouse just up the road whilst in Sanquhar visiting relatives and asked if we could get a spot of supper anywhere - this place came well recommended. There were only 3 of us in the entire place on a rather sunny evening and one could only assume that it was off season period. The server was very polite and didn't hover nearby (the way some do) so that we could eat in peace.I ordered the home-made steak pie which was turned out to be a small oval hotpot dish packed with Aberdeen Angus Beef in a rich gravy and covered with puff pastry. My other half ordered the Caledonian Chicken which she said was an absolute delight.Portions are really good and the quality excellent - definitely worth the visit!

As a local resident, I often visit this excellent restaurant with friends/family. I have never been dissatisfied with the food as it is always top notch.Friendly and efficient staff always make you feel welcomed and looked after as they respond in the kindest manner. The restaurant often hosts special "theme nights" where a selected menu is designed around a country's national food. I recently visited for the Italian themed night and was very impressed with the effort that had went into making the evening a success. (Recommend the lamb shank)

The Oasis Restaurant is in the Nithsdale Hotel on the Sanquhar main street, easy to find and for us the most prominant place to eat we could find. The menu outside showed a good choice of the usual suspect s in pub grub so we went in. We were quickly showed to our table, asked for drinks which came fairly quickly and then the food order was taken. We were two couples and both decided on the "Dales Combo" shared starter. This was a selection of mini kievs, garlic mushrooms, chicken wings, chicken goujons and so on served with some dips. The items seemed to be mainly deep fried items which you'd find in a freezer shop and whicle the menu doesnt suggest how many should share I'd assume the norm was two and the inclusion of three of some of the items seemed a bit strange in this case. For the mains two opted for Lasagne and chips, one for the breaded haddock and one the macaroni. The macaroni was pretty good, well presented and tasty. The breaded haddock looked like the chef had had some help from Captain Birdseye in the prepartion and my friend confirmed he thought this was the case. My first couple of forkfulls of lasagne were only warm not not and as I got further in turned to luke warm. My other friend also found thier lasagne cold so we returned them both. The Oasis redeemed themselves well as there was no fuss when we mentioned the problem, th eplates were whicked away and after a delay new3 dishes presented to us with an apology for the problem. The second batch of lasagne was hotter and not bad in quality. When we asked for the bill we noticed the starters had not been charged for and this was done without an expectation from us or mention by the waiter. No fuss and a nice gesture. Mistakes happen and how they are dealt with is the measure of how good the service is service so top marks there.

Stopped as passing. Initial observation .. Clean but needs updating. Food was cheap and tasteless. Returned my main. Chicken fajita it was cold .. Think the guacamola was just cold mushy peas blended. The food was obviously just cooked from a packet if cheap sauce. Prices did not reflect the sub quality of food. Once we had sent food the food back the waitresses were very rude and we got no apology for bad food served. They didn't charge for food sent back but having to walk past a group of discrunttled staff making it obvious they were dis-pleased with what we had done is disgustin. Can only say people who eat here need to widen there pallet and go else where to see how food should be cooked .

We had a day out yesterday and ended up here for coffee. The sign at the entrance said the cafe was open until 4.30. As it was just before 4 when we parked round the back we thought we had plenty of time. However when we entered the cafe I approached the counter to order I was told in no uncertain terms that they were shut. When I pointed out that their sign had said it was open until 4.30 the rude assistant pointed to the sign on the counter which said last orders 4. I said it was 4 and we only wanted coffees she said 'well we're shut'. You would think that after 2 years of pandemic that businesses would be grateful for any money they could get, well that's not the case in this cafe. We had been going to buy some plants but left empty handed and on the way out told the assistant in the shop that we wouldn't be back. Their loss is someone else's gain

We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.
