Torrent Walk Hotel in Gwynedd

I only went to the bar, the cellar bar, so this review is not about the hotel. The bar was cosy, super-warm thanks to a gorgeous wood burning stove - which is a real plus in this weather - and they served a nice IPA. Definitely a good find, I'll go back on my next visit for sure!

Absolutely loved my visit to Torrents in Dolgellau! The staff are super nice and friendly, making you feel right at home. The beers are really cheap, and I especially enjoyed the Guinness – it was perfect. Plus, they play EPL matches on TV, which is a great touch for sports fans. Highly recommend it if you’re in the area

My favourite pub in Dolgallau! Great host and service. Exceptional food and great value drinks. The pub itself has a lovely cosy feel to it and it has a great atmosphere no matter the time of day. I was lucky enough to be able to sit next to the real fire in the main bar area on a winters evening which was delightful. The locals are all welcoming and I had some really nice chats whilst I was there. I thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in the area!

Great food, plenty of vegetables which came as a side dish. Roast potatoes and mashed potatoes were really nice. Beer good. Friendly staff and friendly customers. Felt very welcome. Well priced. However room was a bit chilly! Had to keep my coat on.

We stayed at a B&B in Dolgellau and asked the owner where was a good place to eat. Across the road he said. Go to the Torrent Walk. An excellent recomendation as it turned out. We walked into the warm bar, already decorated for Xmas, bought a drink and studied the menu. It is a pub so you order at the bar. We choose a starter and a mains. All delicious. In particular the Bala Beef Pie. Afterwards we had a coffee. And then returned to our B&B both of us agreeing it had been one of the best pub meals we've ever had.

We ate dinner at the Torrent. Great portions, good choices on the Christmas menu. The bar was warm as were the locals who made us feel welcome. 6pm on a very cold Wednesday evening in November is not peak time but the service and decorated bar, excellent. My only gripe is that £18 for a turkey dinner and £8 for pudding feels high to me. Perhaps it's the way ahead to keep great pubs like the Torrent open but we self catered the following evening.

If you want a good meal when in town this is the place to go ! We ordered the turkey with all the trimmings. The meal was delicious and could have fed multiple people. The pub had a good atmosphere and was very reasonable with pricing.

Great food,great atmosphere and brilliant staff

We ate here Saturday the 16th Nov. Both of us had the venison sausages which were lovely! Good portion sizes and we did not expect the extra veg on the side. The staff were really friendly and they said the wait would be quite a while due to Christmas parties however the food came out pretty quickly. Very affordable and we will definitely eat here again!

We always come here for a pint when in Dolgellau, a little town which we really like. Great beer, a nice welcome and the cellar bar is comfortable. A pleasant place to hang out. While we were there some blokes, carpet fitters from Caernarfon were talking in Welsh. Despite having GCSE (Grade B) I couldn't understand a word, although I wasn't evesdropping. The barlady told me that Caernarfon Welsh is a unique and incomprehensible thing, even to Welsh speakers.

Food is excellent!! Portions are massive, definitely recommend!

Had a delicious steak and ale pie. And they serve great beer.

Good food, graet beer. Late decision to eat there, hadn't booked but they made space for us on what seemed to be a very busy evening.

Cannot recommend this pub enough. Nice and warm, really good food (tried quite a few different menu choices over the times we have stopped in Dolgellau and all are fabulous. Cannot fault anything) and a comfortable atmosphere.

My family and I visited the torrent for Sunday lunch and the food was delicious. The portions are great, lovely Yorkshire puddings and plenty of vegetables on the side too! However, despite the food being lovely we wouldn’t visit again. The service from one of the ladies behind the bar was extremely poor and bordering on rude. On arrival, I went to the bar to order drinks and was kept waiting for 10 minutes.. which I understand when busy , however, when I was eventually acknowledged, she said she wouldnt take my drink order without taking my food order first and put her hand up to my face to stop me ordering drinks. I was surprised to receive such cold service in what looked like a warm welcoming pub.

We’ve eaten here quite a few times during our holiday. Lovely atmosphere, superb Sunday Dinner and the meals we had on other nights were just as good. Friendly and helpful staff.

Then one of the Bertrand Russell twins necked a bottle of cake oil To top it off I swear I saw one of the dogs from Blue Peter (tv show ) Would definitely revisit if in the area

Rating for the restaurant: The food was above average for a pub. The burger was delicious, the meat was well seasoned and had nice roasted aromas. The Steak & Ale Pie was beautifully presented. The puff pastry is crispy. The meat is tender. Unfortunately the gravy was a bit watery and bitter. The vegetables were crunchy, the mashed potatoes were good, but unseasoned. Large portions and overall very good value for money.

Fabulous meal tonight. Varied menu with plenty of choice and the portions are plentiful. Highly recommend.

Came in with the dog sat in the bar area first then moved to the other side, everyone was extremely welcoming, friendly, and so lovely, nothing was an issue, and everyone was really nice! The food might seem pricey, but for the quality and quantity you get, it's definitely amazing prices as the food is absolutely unreal!

Great atmospheric pub with really good food and a nice location. A short walk from the nearby campsite/holiday park as well, which is handy.

I only know about the food. Had a roast here as a family. Exceptionally good - the best roast I have had in years!

Drinks - just be aware if you order a diet tonic it's Britvic LOW CALORIE and very sweet, like lemonade, not the pubs fault but if you drink tonic you want it to taste like it, if I had wanted Lemonade I would have ordered one. I handed it back to the bar staff to throw way. I suggest you change suppliers. (I have had diet Britvic in the past and its been fine, just like other well known diet brands) We'd been to the pub before about two years ago and had a great night and cracking meal. We happened to be in the area so decided to return as it had been so nice. The menu was a bit disappointing. I ordered the Veggie Lasagne, I asked for Chips and Salad, the salad was full of Onion, the chips were in a metal basket that let everything get cold and was easily caught and tipped over due to the long handle. The lasagne was dry and had lumps of broccoli and large slices of carrot, it came in a plate on a trencher board which was just a bit weird and unnecessary. My husband had the pork belly, nicely presented but a bit small and they aren't over generous with the veg, I can't remember what the other two had but lets just say they weren't impressed. We are guessing the chef has changed. We get that covid messed stuff up but both our visits are post covid. We weren't asked if everything was alright, we weren't offered coffee or dessert. I noticed that this happened about 50% of the time to other diners. Two of us work in hospitality in Wales and I have waitressed, we get it's busy, we get we aren't local, but it's August but this is pretty basic.

On the face of it this a regular and unremarkable pub… however the food is very very good….worth a visit is you’re looking for somewhere to eat. More than reasonably priced and really well presented….

The Torrent was a great choice for our family’s Sunday lunch in Dolgellau recently. Staff were extremely busy but very friendly and responsive, plates were piping hot, food was delicious and portions very good. All six of us thought it was excellent and have been recommending it to all!! We returned for two more lunchtime meals later in the week and will naturally return when we are next visiting. Well done to the leader/team on making the Torrent the place to go for a great meal. Diolch yn fawr i chi gyd.

Came here from trip advisor review then was not sure when I saw menu🙈thought it was just typical pub food but it was absolutely gorgeous, more like restaurant food but great price!! Staff lovely, highly recommend

Spent 5 nights in Dolgellau, and so far, we've eaten here on 3 evenings. I've had something different each time, and all have been superb. They have a nice, varied menu, and everything has been beautifully prepared and presented, good tasty food for a very reasonable price. Staff have been really friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere with plenty of locals eating here too. They also have a good range of ales and beers on tap! Don't miss this place, you won't be disappointed!

Impromptu dinner on Easter Sunday, food was simply gorgeous. Service was friendly and came out with perfect timing. Definitely recommended! Dog friendly too!

The cellar bar is very cosy and inviting. The beers are excellent. The food is exceptional and the portions huge. Vegetarian options available. Reasonably priced.

A great local boozer.. The main bar area is snug & cosy with an open fire… A warm welcome from the bar staff.. We did try and book a table for 7 .. The Torrent do not take bookings. Just turn up… The restaurant area is not as cosy as the bar however it is fine… With lots of posters over the years advertising the Dolgellau music festival Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau… Which occurs every July.. We had a range of meals . Gammon steak. Pie of the day. Chicken Parma. Lamb curry etc… All meals were very tasty and plentiful. I believe the chef is named Gary… The meals were delicious thank you. They cater for gluten free and veggie also.. A good selection of local & guest ales… The wine selection was fine also… Oh and also very dog friendly… Whoof!

Having heard many good things from friends about the food at the Torrent, we decided to visit for a small family get together on a wet Friday lunchtime (Feb 24). The Torrent is right in the heart of Dolgellau, a small farming town so don't expect it to be grand with plush furnishings, what it is, is cosy, friendly, and comfortable. The staff were warm, welcoming and helpful. We sat in the dining room and ordered from a well presented menu with plenty of choice. The food was brilliant, my wife had the curry, which the chef kindly added extra heat to (she likes it spicy hot). All the dishes were excellent, arrived hot, well presented, were well portioned, and best of all very tasty. The price? well five of us ate, and had six drinks (including 2 large and 1 medium pinot), all for £104, which i feel was fantastic value for money, not including the tip which we left separately. If you're thinking of going, i would urge you to try the Torrent, the food is great, as are the staff. Thanks for a lovely lunch!

I have visited this real ale bar many times in the winter. 7/2/24, no central heating, and log fire not lit. Perishing! Could only manage 2 pints before having to go elsewhere. A real shame.

Great pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere....aided by the heat being produced by the wood fired stove! A fantastic selection of hand pulled real ales, including the brilliant Titanic Brewery's "Plum Porter", make this place an essential part of any trip to Dolgellau and I can't recommend it highly enough.

This place is amazing! We only popped in one evening for a cider. But, it taught me the value of quality over quantity. It’s such a beautiful little spot in a beautiful town, and the people and fire made our time in wales so much better. Thank you for the work you do and the space you have created! 🙏🏼✨

Lovely food and beer, in a great setting with friendly staff. The new outdoor seating area makes an old favourite a great place to visit in the summer. The Christmas display is amazing too ❤️

Good basic pub grub at a reasonable price. They were a bit short of bar staff, but the food came quickly. Nice atmosphere.

They have a great restaurant. The food is excellent and the prices are moderate. I haven't used the rooms, so I don't have an opinion, but it was nice and clean inside the hotel. I used a very clean and comfortable toilet. I would recommend this place even though it is a bit on the side of the main street.

Called in for food on a Saturday night, very cosy bar. Staff are friendly and the food was great. Would definitely recommend and go again. Guinness is decent too :-)

Didn't stay in a room but went for dinner with six mates on a hillwalking trip and the food was fantastic. Staff and service also excellent. Couldn't fault the place.

What a find, lovely quant pub. Stopped for food when passing through on way home from Barmouth and did not disappoint. Had the pie of the day which was minted lamb. Came with a choose of chips or mash and a generous side of mixed veg, which consisted of carrots cauliflower beans braised red cabbage courgettes and sprouts. Would recommend to anyone and we will be back for more.

Just wanted to say it's the best pub meal we have had for a very long time.3 of us had the today's special lamb and mint pie served with chips or mash with a selection of fresh vegetables and plenty of it all for £16 each. We all really enjoyed it will definitely be back very soon.

Absolutely amazing roast dinner and really nice beer on draught. The best roast dinner all three of us have had out in a very long time with plenty of sides. We had lamb shank, and one veggie roast which was a cauliflower, brie and cranberry parcel which my friend said was delicious! Would definitely reccomend!

We visited one lunch time and chose the special, minted lamb pie. It was delicious and the pastry was so light and flaky. We had it with mash and veg and the portions were big enough that hubby had to finish mine

We visited the Torrent Walk twice, lovely atmosphere inside & out. First visit the kitchen was about to close however they made the time and served us a delicious pie of the day (great filling, proper mash & great selection of veg) & burger for my 15yr old. Both were excellent. With a great selection of beer & food we visited, once again top notch. Throughly recommended for families.

Recommendation from guesthouse for dinner, did not dissapoint, great food, friendly service and in a beautiful village square.

I rang the restaurant to ask if they could accommodate a group of nine, they said yes so I said I would check with the others and ring back in a few minutes. When I rang back to book the table I was eventually answered and a different lady took the call, I explained what had happened and said I was calling to book the table the other lady had said was ok, and this one simply and very abruptly said “we don’t take bookings” and that was the end of the call! Well after driving for six hours to have my daughters wedding locally, this venues curt and dismissive attitude lost them maybe £300+ in business

We visited with family for lunch. Excellent service and the best lamb & mint pie I have ever tasted anywhere. Honestly my mouth is watering just thinking about it now! Portions were enormous too.

We visited this pub/restaurant on our recent visit to Dolgellau. There was a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere and the staff were extremely pleasant and efficient. This pub offered quite unusual dishes which were very enjoyable, would thoroughly recommend!

Het eten overtrof de verwachting. De bediening was vriendelijk en de locatie prima. Goed voor een leuke avond. Een aanrader was de lam, precies goed bereid. Wat jammer was dat er geen vooraf was, maar het toetje maakte het meer dan goed, hemels.

We ate here twice on our recent visit to Dolgellau. Absolutely fantastic food, all freshly cooked to order. Really good menu, certainly not your average pub grub. Would definitely return when next in the area.

First place we stopped before getting to our air bnb. Lovely pub..have been back several times had the seafood pasta and my husband had the beetroot and feta tart..yummy food..great atmosphere would recommend.
