Friendly place and delicious, freshly prepared food - cakes and quiche by a rather excellent baker. Being able to take the four legged friendly is a massive bonus.

Have used this cafe for years as we are frequent visitors. However, food quality was not up to usual standards last time and we were shocked to see the business has been operating on a ZERO HYGIENE RATING for almost a year now having failed in August last year. Sorry buy we will not return until things improve drastically and we would advise others not to support a business that has such a bad attitude towards hygiene .. not worth risking your health by eating in such premises. One other point is the poor level of service with staff more interested in using their mobile phones instead of serving customers

If I could give this place 0 stars just like the food hygiene rating I would. Absolutely disgusting and clearly no effort to try and fix the problems found in August 2024. On first arrival this cafe looks qwerky and interesting, but when you start to look a little closer the shelves are covered with uncovered cakes, the floors are coated with a thick layer of dog hair on the mouldy old carpet and sofas were worn tired and falling to pieces. I would have happily walked out but my son had taken a liking to a rocky road cake and we had promised him a treat, choosing to overrule my instincts I went to the counter to be greeted by a rude and impatient waitress. We asked if they had any dairy free options of cake and the immediate answer was 'no'. A blunt response at best. But then she decided that 'oh actually is the flapjack dairy free?' she asked a coworker. I decided not to bother. Goodness knows what's going on behind the scenes to have worthied a 0 stars hygiene rating but I wish I had realised before we ordered. It was only upon stepping outside we saw the rating tucked away in the window and I was awfully tempted to go back in and ask for my nearly £15 back for the 3 cakes but we decided instead the throw the cakes in the bin round the corner and not bother causing a scene in the (for some reason) very busy cafe. What a disgrace to a lovely little town, this place should not be allowed to still be open with such low care for health safety and wellbeing of the customers.

The building is quirky, the service is good and the food tasted ok but had we realised that last August the place had been rated a zero score for food hygiene, we wouldn't have eaten here. All food outlets should aim for a five star rating so it's anybody's guess what they're doing wrong to be given a zero score. No wonder they hide the rating sticker behind their breakfast blackboard. In my view, any establishment with a zero rating shouldn't be allowed to trade.

I’ve enjoyed this cafe tremendously since the 1990s but after a recent visit I was left feeling a fool. I’ve always enjoyed T H Robert’s excellent coffee and various breakfast menus, but last week for my birthday trip I decided again to visit and to order a full (vegetarian) breakfast with brown toast and a large Americano. A cheerless till-operator took my order, I took a table, and then after a short while my coffee arrived. It looked nice, and was a huge mug. But it was watery for coffee. Maybe the ‘large’ now just meant extra water? Then a grumpy voice appeared from over my shoulder announcing ‘toast’. A small plate was plonked on my table containing two pats of cold butter in foil and some cold, hard toast from 1970s style sliced supermarket bread. Mother’s Pride would be proud, but Roberts should not. Already disappointed, I was hoping a piece-de-resistance full breakfast would make up for my losses? It was not to be. It arrived shortly in the form of a steaming ocean of baked beans which were literally bubbling on the super-heated plate. I had to rub my eyes when looking for a sausage. There appeared to be an exploded deep-fried (Birds Eye?) frozen vegetable ‘sausage’ on top, flanked by three gigantic hash browns. The egg and beans were ok (at least once had cooled down), but the rest of it? I couldn’t stomach the amount of grease, rice, broccoli, potato, tasteless mushy tomatoes and disappointment on this big plate of mess and thin, cold dry toast. Again, the egg and beans were OK. But for a breakfast that cost me the best part of £15? The finesse, quality, taste, etc to which I was long-accustomed have evidently left the (still lovely) building. A trucker’s delight, minus the sausage? Have Roberts lost the plot? They now have lost a long-time customer. Gutted.

Had lunch here today, was not too impressed with my sandwich! It was brown bread with mozzarella and pesto and sundered tomato’s, with coleslaw and chips. . Was very disappointed that a simple thing like a sandwich could be so tasteless and bland, basically I didn’t eat it all! We didn’t get crisps, instead we got tortillas!🤷♀️ Coffee was good and so was the scone, the services was not the best not sure if lady who served us was new, a real shame as I use to love this place, won’t be recommending the sandwich at £9.00 sadly a waste of our Pennie’s!

Quirky little cafe in the heart of Dollgellau. Love the decor and the cakes looked very enticing. On entering I was a little concerned about the 0 star food hygiene rating, but it didn’t appear to be unclean when we were in there, so this may be out of date or due for an inspection. I had a full breakfast (served all day) which was delicious. Rest of my party had a veggie breakfast and two coronation chicken baguettes. No one was disappointed by their food. All was delicious. Our desserts were fantastic too, we were spoilt for choice and the pieces were huge! Little criticisms I had were the teapot was cracked and leaked on the table but it was replaced quickly by staff. Second was there was a hair on our tiffin but we were offered a replacement or money back and staff were apologetic. Overall, decent cafe and would return.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have tea & cake in a charity shop furniture showroom? Wonder no more! The upstairs was a completely original experience - some low lighting and a bit of a clean of the sofas would have earned the place a 5 star. Aside from the novelty of the setting, the food was both plentiful and delicious. The formless stodge of banoffee pie and monolithic slice of lemon drizzle defeated the two of us. If you're in Dolgellau, you should visit.

What an interesting place to go for a spot of breakfast or lunch. They had a great menu, with little hidden gems, of which I had one, a yummy freshly made beef stew, the cheese scone it came with was fab too. The highlight for me though, was the biscoff cheesecake, this was one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had and I will definitely be going back to try more of their sweet treats as they all looked incredible. The place itself was very quirky and had so much to look at, it even had its own library room.

What an amazingly atmospheric coffee shop just to walk in to. A building steeped in history from politics to gold mining. Great service with friendly staff only happy to help. The menu is full of local Welsh produce and we sampled the breakfast, soup and an omelette, all of which we were happy with. The omelette was massive (Gwen would be proud). Coffee were all hot and delicious and hubby sampled the GF carrot and nut cake and said it was fantastic. Prices were reasonable and we’d return if we were here for longer.

Friday 22 November 2024 So I took my own advice and a group of us went back to TH Roberts for a scrumptious lunch today. Some of us had a secret recipe "Welsh Rabbit" which was amazing and I had a large piece of Lemon Cheesecake to follow ( there's a massive choice of alternatives) .....what we all had was a great welcome from all the staff, an amusing banter and Welsh hospitality at its finest. Take my advice....just go or you'll miss a real treat Tuesday 19th November 2024 You have to go to TH Roberts when you're in Dolgellau...... The atmosphere is fabulous...it's very quirky stepping back into an older worlde pharmacy shop ....but the coffee and homemade cakes ( I had a massive piece of Rocky Road) are amazing. This place looked amazing on Google reviews, and after a lovely drive into this beautiful town, we were very optimistic. Our visit started well with a lovely entrance and appealing food display. However, we were disappointed to find no tables downstairs. In hindsight, we should have left at this point. We were directed upstairs, where we began to notice the quaint charm giving way to a much dirtier atmosphere. It started with a kennel cage at the back and wall-to-wall dirty carpet. In this day and age, no food and beverage establishment should have carpets, especially if they allow dogs. Upstairs was even worse. It consisted of old, mismatched, and tired fabric sofas. Nothing matched, and everything looked grim. My wife’s instincts were telling her to leave, but I insisted we stay, still remembering the appealing food from downstairs. We ordered warm food and a couple of soft drinks, though our spirits continued to sink in the unappealing surroundings. This place has enormous potential, but it needs serious renovation. When our food arrived, it was pleasant but nothing special, certainly not reflective of the entrance and display. As we were about to leave, my wife noticed foil on the floor. Upon investigating, I discovered what appeared to be an ancient, mummified leftover jacket potato. If it weren't for our dogs, it might have remained as a historic artifact for future patrons. Even our dogs refused to eat it, which says a lot. We quickly departed and spent the next hour dealing with bouts of dry heaving at the thought of what we had found and the overall cleanliness. To the owners, I wish you every success, but please, please gut the upper floor and start again. This place has so much potential with just a small investment and some imagination.

Slightly disappointing visit to TH Roberts. The Cafe is in what appears to be an old pub. It is really cool and quirky. The cakes and sweet bits all look really lovely in the counters. We had 2 cheesecakes and the biscoff one was really nice however the other, that had cream swirls, had thick hairy black mould underneath the cream. We quickly took this back to the counter and showed this to a member of staff who replied with 'I can't see any mould' but offered to replace it. The rest of the cake that it came from was left in the counter unit until we left about 15 minutes later so unsure if it was binned. Would expect it to be chucked out if one of the slices has thick black hairy mould. The cheesecake was very nice, just isn't ideal for it to have mould growing on it.

I only ever write reviews for places that are utterly amazing or that are jaw droppingy awful: in order to help good businesses and extract the Mickey from dumps. Straightforward you might think.... until now! Been going to TH Roberts for many years - regular holidays to the Mawddach area. This place is so WONDERFUL that I almost thought of giving it 1 star so that when I go it can be really quiet instead of busy . Thus enabling the amazing chef to provide the gorgeous breakfast bap ( veggie OR meaty) and the brilliant barista the delish coffee as quickly as possible. Thus enabling me to wolf it down and then quickly follow it up with another coffee and some of the flippin' AMAZING baking. Whoever baked the chocolate peanut granola thing I had this morning should be recommended for some sort of medal - maybe for services beyond the call of duty to General Life Enjoyment and Taste Bud Ultra-Tickling? In case I haven't made myself clear this place is rather good. It IS the best cafe in Dolgellau/Gwynedd/Wales/The Universe. Please don't go, but if you must at least leave a table free for me.

Quirky coffee shop, Very relaxed and cosy. Only oat or full fat milk available so due to my intolerance I was unable to enjoy a hot drink. Server was a bit rude but other staff were very pleasant

I love this place! Great atmosphere and amazing cakes baked by Meg. Cooked breakfast is excellent. Very busy place, expect longer waits during peak periods.

One of my favourite cafes anywhere, situated in a fine old building in the centre of town. Sensibly the interior remains much as it was when it used to be a hardware store and is all the more impressive for it, with a long counter and plenty of seating on the ground and upper floor. Breakfast are terrific although i suspect one of the main reasons for customers visiting are the fabulous cakes, made by the owner, 'Meg Queen of Cakes', as described by The Sunday Times. Meg and her staff are delightful and I always enjoy my visits.

Popped in to the Torrent for dinner which was a great decision. Menu was varied with good choices, staff were very friendly and attentive and there was a good atmosphere in the pub. Food was excellent I had the Rump of Lamb dish which I would very much recommend, my partner had the crispy chilli beef strips which were also very good.

Great cafe, lovely food in the shadows of an amazing castle, best cafe / coffee shop in the area.

Amazing ice cream! It was simply delicious, I had both chocolate orange and strawberry which were delicious so if the basic regular flavours are good you know the speciality ones are going to be excellent! The staff were very friendly and service was quick! If I lived around the corner I would be there daily because the bakes looked great too! ☀️

This is a community pub and it sits in the beautiful village of Pennal. Service is friendly and accommodating. The food is great and to miss this gem would be a shame. Pennal is a quiet village between the cultured town of Machynlleth and the Aberdyfi beaches. Ideal for all ages. Highly recommended.

I came to Stag Inn for a pizza over the weekend. I joined the queue and waited politely for around 5 minutes. When I reached the front and was ready to order, the bartender mentioned there were only 7 doughs left. I asked, “What should I do?” and instead of answering, he started taking orders from others who seemed to have been there earlier, though no one had been asked to order until then. He also asked a random person walking by did he have pizza. After taking their orders, he told me the dough had run out. It felt like there was no clear system in place, and locals were being prioritized while I was left uncertain and eventually missed out — despite waiting in good faith. The place has a nice atmosphere, but better communication and a fairer process would go a long way, especially when demand is high and stock is limited.
