Fantastic pub, really friendly locals and amazing food!! Lamb shank was absolutely stunning and my wife had the steak - cooked to perfection and great quality, you get what you pay for! Both absolutely stuffed when we'd finished and looking forward to eating there again. Dog friendly dining area if you're with your four legged friend 🐾

Stayed here for a night in January. Really nice little pub with excellent food, beer and garden. The rooms were incredibly comfortable with one of the nicest baths I've ever used. Will definitely come again!

Stayed for a few days over Christmas holidays. Room and bathroom are very spacious and the hotel is located in a rural village so the area is quiet. The pub is a nice place to relax for food and drinks and the service is always friendly. Great walks in the woods and along the river, and the pub is only a short drive to the nearest town, machynlleth.

Had a lovely stay at the Glan Yr Afon for a few days over Christmas whilst visiting family. The room was large and the bed extremely comfy. They had local Welsh tea, coffee and hot chocolate available in the rooms and local toiletries in the bathroom. The pub is a great location for walks and clay pigeon shooting at Dovey Valley shooting ground and it was great to be able to go for dinner and drinks there too. I'd definitely stay again when visiting.

Booked in for a meal whilst we’re on a mountain biking trip in the area. Food was absolutely spot on and great value for money. Unfortunately the service was lacking. Many people around us had empty plates for upwards of half an hour and some people had to go to the bar for their own drinks. We managed to order a second set of drinks but after waiting 45 mins decided to pay and leave. We’d also asked for the desert menu that didn’t turn up. Would be understandable if it was majorly busy but it wasn’t! Some staff were just busying themselves with other tasks rather than attending to customers. Very unusual but as mentioned the food was spot on!

We phoned up last minute and they got us a table for 2 in the cwtch area. With our 2 irish setters and baby daughter. The staff were lovely. Very friendly and the food was fantastic. Steak was perfect. I would go back for sure. Thank you very much. Jamie & Orla , Wrecsam.

Amazing meal for a special birthday with a large party. We had a huge private room, amazing Sunday roast. The staff were very helpful and considerate, really did anything they could for us. Kids, dogs, all welcome and catered for. We're definitely going to visit again on our next trip and a great choice if staying at nearby plas talgarth. Only regret is not visiting sooner!

This has to be the best pub for miles. The most fabulous vegetarian meals and just exceptional customer service. Adam is doing a cracking job and always makes everyone welcome.

First time we have revisited for a meal since it has reopened. The staff were really lovely and the food was excellent. If you are going to have a simple menu, it has to be beautifully cooked, and it was gorgeous. We would thoroughly recommend.

Stopped for a drink and ended up booking for Sunday lunch the following day. Great service good beer and a fabulous Sunday roast. We will be back, the dog was very welcome too which is always a bonus!

Sunday Lunch - booked about 4 days before with very polite email response. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and nice choice on bar. Very good service and wonderful food at a price well worthy of the quality. Apparently a community run venture - wish we had something this good where I live! Definitely recommend. Staying in Pennal for a well earned break. Popped in on Friday 11th August early evening, had a fantastic meal and a couple of pints. Booked for Sunday dinner (today 13th August) fantastic dinner, very busy, recommend booking. Good service, Good prices, excellent food, and the sticky toffee pudding was just awesome

Great place, highly recommend. Always book beforehand as it's often very busy - recently I have booked through Facebook messenger, email and telephone, all are very responsive. Can highly recommend for dinner and Sunday lunches. Service is friendly and the choice on the menu is very impressive. Price-wise it is excellent value for money! You couldn't get a better location, situated on the river with lively outdoor seating available on sunny days.

We have visited twice now as live reasonably locally to the site. Both times the service has been fantastic the food great and the atmosphere lovely.

Booked same day by email. Pub pleasantly busy - both restaurant area and bar. Menu choices all looked tasty, inc. 2 veggie options and a Specials menu. All meals were delicious. Staff were very friendly, responsive and accommodating. Pleased to be able to support this community run pub and their future plans for a coffee shop etc.

Called in for meal sausage n mash pint of Guinness poor quality sausage pint not good never asked during meal if everything OK not even when I paid, so I brought the subject up but was given a not very convincing sorry, we might not have been dressed in good quality evening attire but we were not scruffy dressed either and our money is as good as anyone else's in my view anyway unfortunately I will never return but then I probably won't be missed either, well that's my grumble over, let's see if I get a reply?.

Great lunch was had here on the bank holiday weekend. Very reasonable prices and friendly Welsh-speaking staff. Will definitely be back. We recently spent a Sunday lunch and 2 nights dining in this pub/restaurant. The new Manager Ben was very welcoming and made us completely at home. The atmosphere was very friendly and inclusive and the quality of the food was far more than we had expected. Good luck Ben in continuing with the good work and that the pub continues to thrive.

Second visit to The Riverside, just like last time the experience was superb. One of the best Sunday lunches we've had out, everything cooked perfectly, full of flavour, great busy atmosphere friendly staff. Nothing at all to complain about (apart from it being 3 hour drive from home 😂). A great example of how to feed people properly and great value for money too. If your in the area and looking for a great meal, give it a go, superb!

When for evening meal, decor is pleasant and staff were friendly. The food was variable some of the party enjoyed the food some did not also it took quite a while to arrive, this could be as our party was large. Will have to try again with smaller group before final comment is passed.

A quaint old Welsh village, Pennal has 2 churches, a school, the pub and not a lot else. The pub/restaurant has a large garden leading down to the Afon, stream. Inside, the restaurant area is modern, painted white with some interesting pictures on the wall...

Lovely beer garden and fab food in the restaurant. I had seabass and my husband 10oz gammon. Both meals were fabulous. Staff were lovely too. Visited here from Plas Talgarth resort.

6th June we booked a Sunday lunch. My wife and me both have food limitations. The service was excellent. The chef provided a wonderful lunch for us, our first eating out in over 18 months. I could not fault a thing about the whole experience....

Have dined at at The Riverside many times and had another pleasant lunch on Sunday to celebrate a special anniversary. Excellent menu with good choices for vegetarians as well as meat and fish eaters. A lovely setting and charming team.
