Buzzing place. Good food. Service quick but so sour and unfriendly. They need to learn to smile and acknowledge when customers are trying to interact with them. Doesn't matter if you're busy, a smile goes a long way.

We stayed at Clara’s cottage nearby and booked in for Sunday lunch. I can honestly say this was the best Sunday roast I have eaten anywhere for decades. Beautifully presented and very tasty. Plenty of veg and the staff serving could not have been nicer. My Dad and my sister felt the same too. Can highly recommend this lovely place.

After visiting the medieval castle we had a wander down the main road in Warkworth looking for something to eat and came upon a very enticing window display of cakes at Topsey Turvey. We were looking for a meal however the cakes drew us in to investigate! Inside it’s a bit like an older aunt’s living room has been converted to a tearoom and accordingly there were not a huge number of tables however we were in luck because it was well past lunchtime and quiet. There were lots of pictures on the walls and various trinkets around the place, many of which appeared to be for sale so plenty to look at whilst visiting. The menu was much larger than we expected and aside from light snacks, cakes, coffee & tea they also offered hot meals - ideal in our circumstances. We were both attracted to have Sea Bass with Garlic Prawns (£17.50 per person) and were pleased to hear that although it had been popular earlier in the day, the dish was still available. We had a small and medium glass of white wine to accompany the food (£3.00 & £4.75 respectively) and this was nicely chilled, very good and served in a proper wine glass. We weren’t entirely sure initially if the pleasant woman serving us was also going to cook the meal since she kept disappearing into the kitchen and would pop out to serve others in between times. We later discovered this wasn’t the case as the cook appeared and was helping tidy up prior to closure around 4pm - they apparently were no longer doing evening meals. Both women engaged in a bit of chat as they did so and were friendly, rather than rushing us out the door. The fish and prawns were beautifully cooked, simply in a butter sauce and served with a selection of vegetables. The king prawns had added 75p each to the cost and we had 6 each on the plates so no skimping from that point of view. The vegetables were served separately in generous amounts, all fresh tasting as though picked from the garden that day - boiled new potatoes, carrots, turnip, broccoli and cabbage! We imagine that it may have challenged some of the platefuls served at the castle in its heyday! The food was so tasty that we almost managed to clear the lot between us but not quite. There was no space for dessert however, having been tempted by the cakes in the first place, we asked if we could get a takeaway and the ladies obliged. Our choice was Keylime Pie and Raspberry Roulade (£4 each as takeaway) and these were boxed up for us to have later, with a coffee, when we returned to our holiday accommodation at Seahouses. They were both delicious. Excellent food, pleasant service and a very reasonable overall cost of £50.75 considering the quality of the produce. There were signs up indicating that cash was appreciated to offset high banking transaction fees and we were happy to oblige. Easy to recommend to others based on our experience.

We popped into Topsey Turveys on our first day of a 2 night stay. We were given a very warm welcome. We only wanted coffee and cake but the choice of home baked delights made our decision making very difficult! We were not disappointed by Quality/taste/quantity they were delicious and plentiful. The filter coffe was perfect which, from me, is saying something as I’m very particular about my coffee. So definitely an all round 5* from us!!

Had to wait ages for our takeout order. When it arrived they had forgotten our drinks. We had the hot turkey and hot beef rolls. The meat was delicious but it was spoiled by the fact that the rolls were drowned in gravy and so were impossible to pick up and eat as the bottoms were all soggy! Just had a fantastic roast beef dinner followed by sticky toffee pudding and filter coffee! The beef was cooked to perfection and just fell apart and melted in the mouth - Margaret knows how to prepare a joint and I’m never disappointed. Veg selection was varied with peas, carrots, broccoli, roast potatoes and parsnip, with dauphinoise potatoes as a side dish - Delicious! Some folks have left negative reviews on here without having taken any issue up with Margaret the owner. How can any business address an issue if you don’t tell them at the time. Maybe it’s just a lack of backbone or there wasn’t much of an issue in the first place. These small businesses need our support following Covid, please think carefully before putting the boot in. I’ve booked again for next week!

We are locals and absolutely love this sparkling gem of a cafe in Warkworth, Northumberland. The menu is by far the most extensive of all the cafes, pubs and bistros in Warkworth and the surrounding areas. Without doubt, it is also the best value for money. We know as we’ve tried them all! If you’re looking for authentic food prepared and served by a very friendly team, then Topsey’s is a must. We called in today for lunch and it was as scrummy as ever. I decided to go back to buy 2 takeout soups and 2 portions key lime cheesecake we were given the cakes and the staff told us that the owner doesn’t let customers wait inside for takeouts and we’re apologetic and obviously embarrassed by having to enforce this !!! I had spent £29 in this cafe and we had to go and wait in the rain for the soup to be heated if I hadn’t already paid for the takeout order I would have just not bothered! I will never go back and also warn everyone I know never to go there . Soup was awful too scrimped on the Stilton 😞

Visited late afternoon, admittedly half hour before closing. Was advised there would be only coffee and cake available, which was fair enough. Felt though most unwelcome. Our server was very abrupt, bordering on downright rude, giving off the impression that she didn't want to be there but more alarmingly resented us being there. This service, or lack of, made our minds up to abandon our craving for cake. Drink up and beat a hasty retreat! The cafe has a rather bizarre policy of adding 50p to a bill if you do not order food to cover waitress service. A notice, stuck on the wall, also suggests that all bills should be paid in cash as they incurred over £100 in fees from the use of card machines in one month!!! Hey ho, that's just business I'm afraid. They even suggested there was a cash machine available in the general store down the street. In fear of being frogmarched to said cash point by our server, we frantically looked for the £5.25 cash to pay the bill. Look this cafe has a prime position in what is a really charming village. It might have been an off day and our visit was at the end of the day. But still no excuse for the poor service we received. Maybe the influx of visitors every summer is enough to forsake service over profit. Be warned though this type of arrogance has a limited shelf life. Small businesses only really thrive when they appreciate the needs of their customer.

Please read the review by Grecian_Goddess82 before reading mine … Chatting about our peculiar experience at Topsey Turvey’s cafe, I asked my husband to check recent Tripadvisor reviews. You can imagine our reaction when he read out loud the review from Grecian_Goddess82, as we were the couple who offered to swap our larger table, so her family of 4 could sit together!! We received a frosty reception from a brown haired, red faced lady, who I shall refer to in this review as The Boss. She seemed rushed off her feet, even though the cafe was half full and every interaction she had with a customer was met with grumpiness. When browsing the menu, we chuckled at various warnings “pot of tea for one only comes with ONE cup, not TWO” and “toasted sandwiches will not be toasted if we are busy”. We each ordered a latte and one piece of lemon meringue pie to share from the pleasant young blonde waitress. We were finishing our lattes when the family of 4 entered the cafe. The Boss said she only had two tables for 2, to which I kindly offered to move to a smaller table so they could sit together, to be shouted at “No”. Somewhat taken aback by her reaction, I stayed quiet whilst my husband was rather surprised I didn’t flip my lid. There was a warning sign beside our table stating they preferred cash rather than card. I therefore calculated what we owed and had £10.25 cash ready before we even received the bill, much to the surprise of The Boss. Basil Fawlty springs to mind and someone whose manner doesn’t meet the usual requirements for anyone working in hospitality. However, the cake & latte’s were delicious and the picture on the wall was a great view for an avid NUFC supporter (note the very detailed cash preference sign underneath) 🙃

Wow. Where do I start. It is a rare occasion for me to write a bad review, but I felt the need to warn others, as this cafe left a sour taste. So, grab a cuppa and make yourself comfortable, this is a doozy. First impressions, it is like walking into your hoarder nannas house, full of very odd mismatched items, all gathering dust, with some fake candle sets etc for sale, very strange. We were ‘greeted’ on entering by a very abrupt portly older woman (server), who seemed to be annoyed that we had the audacity to ask for a table, she signposted us to two tables of two (we were a family of three adults and a child). We said we didn’t mind being separated on the two tables, to which a couple sat at a table for four then said, “we can move” and immediately the server abruptly shouted at the couple “no!”. I felt very sorry for the couple, we didn’t expect anyone to move, but the way this woman snapped back at the mere idea of someone moving, was unreal. Anyway, at this point, I was ready to walk out, but we were ready for something to eat and the sign outside said fresh crab sandwiches, which my dad was looking forward to, so we persevered. Thankfully a younger blonde female came out to take our order, she was much more friendly and we relayed our order. Well, chaos ensued. The portly older server was back, who slammed down my mothers coffee order (which was incorrect) and the rest of our drinks with such venom, my little niece asked “why the lady was so mean”. BTW. Before we go any further, if you want a decent coffee or tea for that matter, avoid this place. They don’t do it. The coffee is instant and the tea is disgusting. The food came, it was mediocre. At least the order was correct. The children’s chicken nuggets and chips was better than the crab sandwich, which was not worth the £8.95 price tag. The atmosphere of the place, you could cut with a knife, it was like sitting waiting for a toddler to kick off. The entire time, the same older server was rude to other customers that had the audacity to enter the cafe and ask if tables were free and one couple got a short shrift reply when asked if they could sit in for cake and coffee, no, out with you! You can only sit in if you want food. The older server stomping up and down, in and out of the kitchen like a mopey teenager. It was almost comical, it was like satire (see Graham R review from June 2022 on TripAdvisor it played out in front of us, I even mentioned Faulty Towers at the time). We finished up and paid for what we had, never to return. Appalling service and mediocre food. Save yourselves the hassle, drive up to the Cosy Tearoom at Alnmouth, they do a fabulous crab sandwich and the servers are much friendlier. God speed!

What a great little restaurant! We popped in at noon to be welcomed by the two waitresses ,who immediately made us feel at home. We were only having soup and sandwiches for a snack- but what a feast we got! Not one ,but TWO soups of the day -both beautifully cooked by Margaret, the owner, who was busy in the kitchen. The sandwiches were also great ,made with locally sourced produce. The food was also very reasonably priced considering the quality and quantity. The added bonus for us was that no dogs were allowed inside (although dog owners and their dogs can still enjoy the food outside) -which was a welcome change from having to negotiate pooch covered floors in other restaurants. We loved it and will be back in the future !

We happened upon this by chance looking for somewhere for a light lunch. And what a find. Yes, it's a bit quirky. So if you want high street coffee chain, it won't be your cup of tea, literally. But there were three generations in our group and we enjoyed a warm welcome, excellent service and a very filling reasonably priced lunch. The toasted sandwiches and cakes were delicious. But even so, when a gentleman on the neighbouring table was served his steak and kidney pudding and veg, we were all drooling and rather envious. We will return.

Yes the interior is a mis match but quite a homely feel. We were greeted straight away and both the ladies who served us were very friendly. We opted for veg lasage, scampi & mince pie. Portions are very generous & everyone else in the cafe could be heard to say how they enjoyed too! A cross between going to your slightly crazy aunties for lunch & being part of a dodgy remake of faulty towers. Please read on! The experience we’ve had in this loosely termed cafe is so bad that it’s actually comical, you just have to laugh....

Unfortunately for myself and my wife we chose to eat at Topsey Turvey. Liked the name and it's position in the high street. All went downhill from then onwards. Seats were comfortable enough, though, I don't like sitting opposite the toilets and sharing a table...

Had a week's holiday in Warkworth visited this cafe several times for snack lunches having toasties and salad and booked a table for 6 on Easter Sunday lunch it was amazing roast dinners with fresh vegetables , homemade Yorkshire pudding to die for light and fluffy. Puddings and cakes all home made and delicious. Staff very polite and friendly never stop all day. We stayed in a rented cottage in Warkworth square called Clara,s Cottage sleeps up to 6 with 3 bedrooms all ensuite , dinning room for 8 sitting room ,fully fitted kitchen and also a washer dryer room. Had a look at the history behind the cottage. Available Friday to Friday . We all had an excellent week and bright sunny weather the whole time. We are returning in July and August this year already booked before leaving yesterday morning. Margaret the manageress was always going the extra mile the whole time . Well done to her and her wonderful team at Topsey Turveys cafe and a rented cottage called Clara,s Cottage in Warkworth.

Very great service from young male waiter. Very friendly and really brightened the place up. Although, on the topic of this, he was the only thing brightening the room. Interior was very dull and outdated. Cheesecake was average and chocolate fudge cake with cream was quite good.

Really surprised there’s so many positive reviews for this cafe. Had a awkward atmosphere very dated decor. The staff were nice but the constant noise from the fridge and buzzing from speaker was off putting.

Called in at short notice , looking for a meal. They had taken a considerable amount of time to decorate the place with a Christmas theme. It’s quite a large and varied menu . If you a healthy appetite go for the steak pudding ....

Haven't tried the food yet, but the welcome is a warm and friendly, lovely social atmosphere with pool table darts and very cold, wonderfully tasting beer (after all, it is a pub 😀). Not to mention a lovely view of the sea through a short walk through a side turning. 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Was looking forward to visiting this pub, we booked a table but when we arrived despite obvious empty tables we were asked to wait in the bar despite there being no tables free. Did not find the staff to be particularly warm or friendly. In fact I felt we were a bit of an inconvenience. The food was lovely, I had monkfish Caesar salad which was gorgeous and a very good portion and then mussels which again I felt was very good value for money but was actually too much for me. It’s just a pity the overall experience was somewhat underwhelming.

Extremely difficult to review something you never received. Booked a table for 6 people, arrived and totally ignored. After an age of waiting were eventually informed that they had gone home early. The staff of the golf club were miserable and unhelpful and the people inside looked at us like we had just fallen off someone's shoe. The comments made by some members seated outside on our leaving, who informed us that they are useless....says it all really.

I liked the fact that the staff were willing to bring our drinks through to the restaurant. My partner thought the food was exceptional & well presented. The Scottish breakfast was fantastic&we got 8 slices of fried bread for 2 people! I would urge anybody going to amble to try this place.
