Our anniversary fell on a Sunday and we wanted something just a bit more special than a pub lunch. The Jackdaw provided this in spades. Quiet and intimate, and the only other diners in there were locals, which is always a good sign. We ate from the standard Sunday lunch menu which provided plenty of options, including a delicious veggie lasagna. Tasty ales from a local brewery and an excellent, attentive friendly service. We were so impressed we booked for a meal at the end of our one week stay, and the chef came out to discuss what vegetarian options I might like. Best to book in advance, as they don't overfill the small restaurant.

I was in love with this place, it's not your usual restaurant where you can order tons of different things, they have a lovely menu and the interior is old fashioned which I absolutely love, very different from other restaurants I've been to. Food is delicious and simple, you know what you eat it just looks right. The owners were absolutely lovely and you can buy some lovely tea towels in there too!

Booked for a weekday visit and to be honest were slightly surprised we were the only table in the restaurant, however we shouldn't have worried as the service and food were first class. Everything freshly cooked, nothing too fancy but generous portions. Menu had both meat and fish dishes. Nothing was too much trouble and we had a good chat with the owners at the end of the meal. A great experience and would certainly visit again if in Walkworth.

Decided to have lunch after a visit to Warkworth Castle. This restaurant is a family run establishment serving good quality food. I can thoroughly recommend the pickled herring starter and the lemon sole fillet served with mini roast potatoes and vegetables. My wife had a bowl of lovely soup and the vegetarian dish of the day. This was followed by Meringue with cream and a raspberry purée whilst I ended the meal with Coconut and Passion Fruit Panna Cotta. We would certainly return if we holiday in the surrounding area again.

This restaurant is an absolute gem. It has been run by a lovely couple for 38 years and, having visited last week when we were staying in the area, we can understand how they have been going for so long. The food is fabulous, home cooked style in the very best sense of the phrase. I had the steak and kidney pie which was amazing - proper home made pastry and meat which just melted. The vegetables were lovely, fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife had the lamb chops and said they were the best she has eaten anywhere. The ingredients are all locally sourced and of exceptional quality. The atmosphere is lovely and it really feels as if you’re dining with friends / family. We both said that if we lived in Warkworth we would go every week.

The place is located in a lovely village with several really nice shops, restaurants and pubs. But this is not one of them. The décor is very dated but clean. The Sunday lunch was the worst I've ever eaten, meat overcooked, vegetables were like mush. But worst of all was the mashed potatoes were like Smash!!

This was a unique dining experience! The decor is very dated and has a traditional atmosphere. We had a unique experience as we were the only diners that evening! The food was very good. The duck was cooked beautifully although the sauce was a little sweet for me. The salmon fish cakes were very tasty. The vegetables were nicely cooked if a little plain. For puddings we had the meringues and crème brûlée - both were very good. The owners were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome.

Other reviews have been very complimentary but we were rather dissappointed. The food was clearly home-cooked which is usually a good sign but it was really underwhelming. My liver pate starter was served so cold as to destroy the flavour and my partner's tartine, though tasty , was soggy (micro-waved?)which let the dish down. My main was fine but my partner's duck was really tough and to my mind under-cooked. Vegetables were okay but lacked that feeling of freshness that one has come to expect thes days. So unfortunately we were not thrilled with our experience here.

I booked a table for two for an evening meal. The main course, beef casserole was appetising and well presented although I thought it a little overpriced. The ‘average’ rating comes as a result of the indifferent service provided by the host. We had barely sat down and not even looked at the drinks selection when we were asked what we wanted to drink. We said we weren’t ready to order. Our host was quickly back again and from this moment onwards we felt pressure to eat, drink and vacate the table quickly. We were still eating and drinking when the bill was put onto the table, this act was very annoying, it means pay up and leave! I felt the service might have been better if we were regulars and not ‘passing trade’.

3 course Sunday lunch for £18.95- expected super food at that price - compared to the other nearby hostelries! What a disappointment- although the salmon mousse and fruit cocktail starters were passable - other than a pathetically small slice of toasted white bread with mousse- the main meal was appalling. Two small slices of very overdone tough beef in congealed bisto gravy with a dry black burned Yorkshire pudding “its only caught on the top” said the ‘maitre d’ when asked about the burned offering-and a small plate of vegetables between two. A minute dish of horseradish sauce was provided but additional gravy had to be requested- no offer of any mustard-or other condiments. We had inquired about the smaller portion roast lunch (for elderly relatives) usually offered these days - “yes you can have small portion but price will be same” (same maitre d) but thank goodness we didn’t - portions were child size. The selection of Home Made desserts - again over cooked and small. The whole ambience of the Jackdaw was funereal - we too spoke in hushed tones as we were two diners of four. Our table mats were carefully rearranged (by maitre d) before the roast was served “to give more space “ - we anticipated great things! And no rose wine by the glass- but at over £2 for slightly flat sparkling water maybe just as well. A very surreal experience - the rave newspaper reviews framed on the wall were dated 1992- maybe the Sunday lunch hit the high spot then! Certainly not good value for money and unless you’re into a real vintage 1950s event in terms of decor, ration size portions and a male Mrs Overall to serve you please avoid- we spent £42:60 today and ate last week at Malmaison - overlooking the Tyne- for the same cost and had an experience at the top end of the spectrum compared to this rip off! Only excuse they can make is the price was clearly displayed - buyer beware ☹️

Had read reviews of The Jackdaw and many seemed to mention the 'quirkyness' and very little about the food. As also being part shop selling lovely paperweights/glass objects/ cards and other trinkets it may well appear a bit quirky but the very small dining area is very pleasant and clean. The owner at first appeared a little 'shy' if thats the right word but once we ourselves became more interactive the owner and his wife(the chef) were very pleasant and had an excellent sense of humour which made the evening one to remember. Yes the food - all dishes from starter / mains and sweets were superb . The loin lamb chops i had were fanatastic. We enjoyed a great meal here last week. Unfortunately, we were the only people in this very small restaurant which meant it lacked a little atmosphere but the food and service could not be faulted. The main courses imparticular were superbly cooked - I had a duck breast and husband had the lamb chops. Both were cooked pink and were tender and delicious. The vegetables were served separately (table service) and the roast potatoes were especially scrummy - crispy outside and fluffy inside. Pear creme brulee dessert was lovely. Coffee served with various biscuits and chocolates. Not a cheap meal (£83 for 2, inc wine) but we each had 3 courses and shared a bottle of Australian Shiraz (£24) so a lovely place for a special occasion. We have looked at visiting the Jackdaw for some considerable time but only recently were able to fit our visit to it being open.Well we wish it had been closed. Yes it's different and quirky but lacks atmosphere. But worse was to come. Having placed our order my wife had requested a rib eye steak medium and no running blood. It came more red than pink and some blood. My wife took a few bites and stopped eating it. There was most of it left on the plate. When the waiter came over he deliberately ignored the lump of steak and asked if we wanted a sweet. My wife told him she couldn't eat the steak because it was tough. He said that was the way they served it. She repeated it was tough he simply shrugged and said that was the way they served it. We asked for the bill and left.He did not apologise offer a cup of coffee or a sweet or a reduction in the bill. We will not be returning and do not recommend this establishment.

Lemon sole, with saute potatoes, carrots and shredded cabbage - I didn't think the vegetables would be suitable partners for the fish, but it was well seasoned and balanced. Followed by crème brulee. We dined at the Jackdaw on a recommendation from a friend. We were a little apprehensive before we arrived having read some of the reviews. The 'restaurant' looks like a trinket shop from the outside and upon entering it was realised that it doubles up as one. We were greeted by the owner who showed us through to our table in a room to the rear. The room can only be described as your grandmother's dining room, it was very strange. The whole place lacked atmosphere. Food: Overall the food was nice, but it probably did not justify it's price. I had the pate to start with sea trout for main which was very good. Drinks: We asked the waiter/owner for some red wine and I was surprised when he returned and started pouring it around the table... I had not been given a list, it was a case of have what you are given and it was not cheap. Wine was very average especially for the price and it would have been nice to read a wine list or at least be given a choice. Overall i think this restaurant means the best but they are a little out of touch with things. The food was nice but a tad overpriced.

We both had steak, which arrived plated up with the veg: carrots/broccoli OK, a pallid white bolled potato and several 'roast' potatoes, which were soft and leathery and possibly left over from the previous night's service. The was no sauce with the steak, and the meal was so dry it was hard to get down. Starters and puddings were ordinary at best. My summer pudding was served cold, and the fruit in the middle had clearly been in a freezer not that long before. I was offered a dribble of (single) cream with it.With one of the cheaper bottles of wine, we spent £90, which hurt. Obviously, we won't be going back, but hey – give it a try and you might be luckier than us. One tip - order something with gravy.

We were staying in Warkworth for a week and ate their one night. I had steak and kidney pie. It was home cooked and tasted delicious.

I had "duck in redcurrent sauce"...only, a) the sauce was simply duck blood with some redcurrents thrown in - disgustingb) the roast potatoes were boiled potatoes grilled burnt on one sidec) the duck was tough to cutd) the vegetables were dripped in butter after I specified "no butter"This cost £15.

We saw this restaurant listed in the Living North magazine and decided to give it a try for lunch. We were the only customers when we arrived and there is a definite 1950s look to the furnishing. However the menu provided a varied choice, the service was very prompt and attentive and the prices reasonable. The food was good with sensible sized proportions. The Lemon tart was one of the best I have ever tasted. Would definitely return.

Needed a beverage on a hot day. Never been in The Jakcdaw before but will again. A cup of tea better than home and that is unusual when you are out and about. A home made scone with jam and cream beautiful. Lovely people. Give it a try.

We have recently returned from a break in the pretty village of Warkworth. As part of our holiday we always like to try the local restaurants nearby. We booked for dinner at the Jackdaw one evening and had a very pleasant dinner. As Warkworth is so close to the sea there were several fish dishes that suited us both.We both had a very tasty crab started with salad and bread.I then went for the lemon sole and my husband had the homemade salmon fish cakes. Both meals were freshly cooked to order and arrived with a selection of veg and two types of potatoes. We even had fresh tartare sauce as well.We then we're really naughty and I had a panne cotta with blueberries and ice cream and my husband plumped for the Percy a special which he enjoyed too.The couple who run the Jackdaw have been in Warkworth for over 30 years and provide lovely fresh home cooked food.We enjoyed a chat with them after the meal which told us about their background. The husband is front of house and his wife a very talented chef I loved her home made pannacotta as good as some I have had eaten in Italy. We were amazed to be their only diners that evening but I am sure they must be busy at lunchtimes when tourists visit the Castle. Please give it a go we were very pleased with our fishy dinner.P.S there are greeting cards and small gifts in their cafe but I am sure they need to diversify as only a small village.

A bit on the pricey side if I am honest but you cannot fault the food served up . I don't know how restaurants can justify charging almost £20 for a run of the mill red wine.Although we enjoyed our meals it makes you think twice before returning.

Don't be put off by the fact that this is only rated 8 out of 9 restaurants in Warkworth, I'm sure that is only because it hasn't had many reviews - the food is home cooked and absolutely delicious. We visited on a Saturday night when there were only a few customers in. Do give this place a go.

This was our 1st visit to the Jackdaw but we definitely will come back again next time we are in the North-East. We only stopped by for a lunch but this was all home-made and served fresh from the kitchen. The watercress and potato soup was divine and surroundings homely.

Although the restaurant wasn't busy on a Saturday evening, the food and the wine were of an excellent quality. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife and source many of their ingredients locally. The fillet steak was exceptionally tender and well complemented by a fine Rioja. We really enjoyed the meal and the service even though the atmosphere could have been improved by more customers.

Stopped for lunch at the jackdaw today and enjoyed the best lunch of the week especially the homemade cakes! We were told that there was an addition to the menu of a ginger cake which had just been taken from the oven also! Would highly recommend for the food and will definitely visit again when in the area. Would also like to say how clean the facilities were.

We visited the cafe on our trip to Vindolanda. Great cafe with nice treats, very good coffee, and service. They have a beautiful terrace and the day we visited it was perfect outside so we were able to sit out and enjoy the weather and the gardens. Beautiful views of the gardens and the sound of a river flowing through. We loved our visit . Thank you for the great service and beautiful location.

Stopped off at this lovely pub for an ad hoc lunch date. Cosy pub. Warm welcome I had small portion of fish and chips, great value for money. Lovely homemade tartar sauce and fabulous chips. My wife had steak sandwich, apparently steak tender and plentiful. Pudding menu looked great, maybe next time! Thanks folks
