My wife and I have just been here for Sunday lunch and it was thoroughly enjoyable. That was until we came to pay the bill. We were overcharged for our drinks (price was doubled) which was eventually put right. Later after returning to our holiday accommodation we found that the bill included a 12.5% service charge which was not made clear when we ordered. Maybe the owner/manager should check the law as this practice is definitely not legal. Obviously we will not be returning.

Close to Hexham, by car, the Boatside Inn offers excellent, tastefully furnished, well appointed accommodation . Staff were friendly helpful and efficient. We stayed in the spacious N Tyne cottage. It has modern kitchen/ utility facilities and is very comfortable. A railway is very close by but the cottage is well insulated and we were not disturbed by the trains. We would happily stay at the Boatside Inn again.

Food review = YUM Service review = friendly and fun We booked in for dinner and what a great choice (even though it's a taxi ride from The George Inn, the difference between the two is OBVIOUS). At The Boatside we received a very warm welcome and that attitude stayed the whole evening. The Gluten-free Fish and chips were an extra surprise! The sea bass with risotto was very nicely done. Very accommodating with allergies and vegetarians. The setting (we ate in the pub side) was comfortable and homey. Highly recommend.

Called at lunchtime, after a short walk around the riverside, only spoilt by the long stretches of riverbank fenced off and signposted private property. We ordered two drinks and two bar meals at the bar before sitting at our bar table. Hot beef sandwiches with chips both very good and filling. My only gripe, is that the staff failed to tell me they had charged me 12 and a half % service charge, on a light lunch bar meal. It may be optional but really! I work for the Nhs on minimum wage, shame i cant receive a service charge.

We visited The Boatside at Warden today for lunch. The menu has changed a lot and actually no longer caters for basic, good pub food. The quality of the food was very poor - my mothers quiche was almost solidified & fries certainly did not appear fresh. We have visited the venue many times over the years but unfortunately this will be our last visit. We cannot recommend this restaurant at the current time - hope you can turn things around in the future.

We stayed in Quilters Room (no. 1) and it was very comfortable - all the sockets and mirrors etc in the right place (ladies will know how great that is !!). The bathroom was brilliant - with a large and powerful shower. The breakfasts were lovely and you wouldn't need much lunch later on - they're large!). All the food in the hotel was well cooked and presented, and the restaurant was popular, so it would be wise to book a table. The staff are very friendly. Really, I couldn't fault this inn. It's located just a short drive to Hexham so is very convenient. I guess the real test is - would I stay there again? And yes, I definitely would.

I have visited many times since new owners took over because of fabulous gluten free menu. Virtually everything on the menu used to be gf. Last time the menu had changed and the only gf options were steak and chips or fish and chips. Even menu items which used to be gf, such as fish pie and stuffed chicken, weren't anymore. I loved my previous experiences but wouldn't come back with such disappointing gf menu choices. Please go back to the old menu with gf options!

Such a disappointment. We had eaten here before Covid when in the area on holiday. We visited for lunch one day a few weeks ago - that was fine. A reasonable choice on the menu and nicely presented. However we regret returning for dinner to meet up with family. The ‘ famous Boatside fish pie’ is to be avoided if you want more than a tiny scrap of salmon to digest. As for the potato topping : it was thin and somewhat watery and not a pleasant experience. We are not tempted to return anytime soon. Such a shame. The location is ideal and the interior inviting but the food needs serious attention and improvement to reach the standard promised on the website.

The Boatside Inn has recently been taken over and it’s our first visit since the new owners took over. The interior has had a refurb which has lightened the place up nicely. The quality of the food was excellent and the portion sizes reasonable and good value for money. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, we’d booked a table for 3 + a dog in the snug and when were turned up an extra family member had come along so it was 4 + the dog but that was no problem to the staff. A really good dinning experience, it was busy when were turned up but soon cleared out as early visitors moved on, but there was no pressure to rush and get you out, it was all very relaxed and pleasant meeting up with a friend from outside the area who we hadn’t seen for a while. The only request I would have or would suggest as a change would be due to my patriotism of the County we live in, that the. Northumberland Flagg flying in the garden is rehung correctly so that there is a yellow block in the top left hand corner as it should be, but that’s just me, not many people would be aware of it.

It was warm, spotlessly clean, and a few steps away from the pub. There was a railway line behind the rooms but whilst we were slightly concerned at the outset we never heard a thing all night. We ate in the bar area of the pub, and enjoyed a good quality pub meal in convivial surroundings.Breakfast was also very good. A good place to stay if you want to visit Hadrians Wall and get a flavour of the gorgeous Northumberland countryside. The owner Matt was very friendly and welcoming.

Been twice now, pleasant enough pub. The bill was wrong twice, overcharged both times.. That said, the owner Matt is a very nice pleasant gentleman. Give the place a visit, make your own mind up. Just make sure you check that bill.

Quaint English pub just off the A69 past Hexham at Warden. Beautifully decorated and very clean. Staff were very friendly and professional. Booked a table for four; the food was faultless - the potato skins with crispy bacon and cheese were to die for. Morretti on draught , lovely.

first time here. Staff friendly Food seems good, maybe a little pricey for some of the dishes. We were the only ones in. Had to wait a while for the meal but that is a good sign. We all had different meals and they were freshly made,

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today after completing the GNR.Meat was very tender accompanied with a huge Yorkshire pudding and ample vegetables and tasty gravy.Staff were very polite My only reason I haven’t given 5 star’s is the vegetables could of been hotter.

We met some friends for drinks and the service was awful. Probably the worst service I have ever seen in pub or restaurant. The staffs are clueless and were constantly taking wrong orders to other tables, spilling drinks. Then they made such a mess of the bill it was incredible. Avoid if possible

Lovely beer garden, nice food & a very relaxed atmosphere. It was busy as we grabbed a table as soon as it came free but I was glad to have a pack of disinfectant wipes in my bag - the table needed a good wipe down! Went to use the bathroom in the pub and it was spotless though.

Just back from a week at the Boatside . We opted for a one bedroom self catering cottage. It was very clean and well equipped. Although self catering the pub is a few feet away and serves delicious pub grub. The staff are friendly and lots of outside seating. There is also a huge tipi for the cooler days. It's a great area for visiting Hadrian's wall and only 2 miles from Hexham. Lots of fishing available too. In all a great wee break.

Great for drinks and atmosphere - nice for a drink. Food was generally ok but would avoid the pizza. Pizza base was tough and chewy & couldn’t finish it.

Our anniversary fell on a Sunday and we wanted something just a bit more special than a pub lunch. The Jackdaw provided this in spades. Quiet and intimate, and the only other diners in there were locals, which is always a good sign. We ate from the standard Sunday lunch menu which provided plenty of options, including a delicious veggie lasagna. Tasty ales from a local brewery and an excellent, attentive friendly service. We were so impressed we booked for a meal at the end of our one week stay, and the chef came out to discuss what vegetarian options I might like. Best to book in advance, as they don't overfill the small restaurant.

Breakfast sandwiches were great, wrap was a little small but all tasted lovely. Well priced and very clean inside with very helpful and happy staff!

Found the service patchy, restaurant empty and some food options lacked pride in presentation.

We visited the cafe on our trip to Vindolanda. Great cafe with nice treats, very good coffee, and service. They have a beautiful terrace and the day we visited it was perfect outside so we were able to sit out and enjoy the weather and the gardens. Beautiful views of the gardens and the sound of a river flowing through. We loved our visit . Thank you for the great service and beautiful location.

Stopped off at this lovely pub for an ad hoc lunch date. Cosy pub. Warm welcome I had small portion of fish and chips, great value for money. Lovely homemade tartar sauce and fabulous chips. My wife had steak sandwich, apparently steak tender and plentiful. Pudding menu looked great, maybe next time! Thanks folks
