We took a group of six friends to The Boatside Inn for supper yesterday and had a fantastic evening. The new chef cooked really delicious food, and the bar and restaurant staff were friendly and welcoming! Our waitress kept a discreet eye on our table and made the evening a special occasion for us. I highly recommend Boatside if you are looking for somewhere special to go!

We’ve eaten at the Boatside many times, I first went there over 40 years ago. Sadly out last visit wasn’t as good as previous ones. Despite not being very busy and with plenty of staff on getting our meal took a very long time. I don’t mind a wait but I was at the point of going to check that the order had been put through! One of our party had a toastie, I kid you not but it was just a warm sandwich, no crispy toast and pure white. We actually mentioned that we’d ordered the toastie, they just said yes it’s a toastie! I ordered the fish and chips with triple cooked chips. When it eventually arrived it just had frozen french fries, I mentioned this to the server and he said “sorry we’ve run out” no apology and no offer to refund. The fish hadn’t been rested enough and there was a lot of oil on the plate. On the good side, the pear salad was good, as was the fish cake the egg really enhanced the dish. It was a good piece of fish and the batter was cooked perfectly and tasted great.

Really disappointed to find the Boatside Inn closed today when we arrived about 12.40pm, having checked the website to ensure it would be open before we drove from Kirkharle. We weren't the only couple who expected the place to be open; others had walked from Hexham.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay for a weekend exploring the delights of Northumbria. A warm welcoming place to stay, we loved the atmosphere and the hospitality shown by the hosts James and Emma along with the wonderful boatside crew made it feel like a home from home. Celebrating our engagement on the ‘Wall everyone was so genuinely delighted and they made it feel even more special with kind words and treats to help us both celebrate. The room (Quilters) was delightful, light and very homely. My now fiancée and I were so pleased with the inviting decor, the wonderful king sized bed and settings. Check out was a relaxed affair and the crew were so helpful. The food was absolutely delicious, giving us that delicious home cooked taste and charm. Nothing was too much and the service was again fantastic in such warmly and almost intimate surroundings. We both enjoyed the highly recommended braised beef and everything was delicious. I cannot recommend this hidden gem enough and would gladly come back again and again. Who knows… it may also be for the wedding! Thank you James, Emma and the crew. You made what was already a perfect day, even more special.

We recently returned from a stay at the Boatside Inn in Warden. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed for a few days in one of the lodges behind the Boatside Inn - "Quilters". Car parking and Wi-fi available. The Boatside Inn is a lovely pub serving food and a nice selection of ales. The staff are very friendly and it was nice to return to the pub for a quiet drink after a days exploration. We ate in the evening, sampling the fish and chips, with the crunchiest batter! and the Balmoral Chicken, which was lovely. We finished our meal with Apple Crumble and custard - this has to have been the best apple crumble ever. The Boatside Inn, has a decent sized car park too. I imagine it is quite busy on warmer days with seating outside and is dog friendly. The lodge - the room was quite cold when we arrived, however once the heating was on it quickly warmed up - it does mention the heating will warm the room up quickly in the lodge information. The information book provided was very useful, advising of amenities, menu for the Boatside Inn, local attractions, important numbers and other recommended establishments to eat in. The room itself was pleasantly decorated and clean and included an umbrella, which was a nice thought, tea and coffee making facilities (kettle doesn't turn off when boiling), decent sized bathroom with shower and towels. The bed was comfy although the mattress was a little soft for us, but that's down to individual preference and didn't bother us. There is a train track at the back of the lodges, which I did wonder if we'd hear the passing trains, but we were pleasantly surprised that they made very little noise and they don't run during the night, Overall, if you're looking for a quiet place (especially during end of February), with a pleasant room, decent car park, wi-fi, food, beer and friendly staff, then this is definitely worth booking as a place to use as a base to explore the Northumberland countryside. We would recommend and happily return.

On Sunday 16th February we completed stage 4 of the daft as a brush charity walk from Barrasford to Warden finishing at the Boatside inn. We made a booking online on theTuesday before for Sunday lunch and rang to confirm the booking on the Saturday night. We were greeted by a friendly member of the team who showed us to our table in the conservatory, she gave us a menu and took our drinks order. The restaurant was very busy with lots of customers having lunches. We were then asked to confirm the name that the booking had been made under by another member of staff and then again by the manager. The manager then advised us he had a bit of a situation as there had been another booking under the same name for the same time and the other party were cross and upset that we had been seated at the table in the conservatory which was supposed to be “their table” The conservatory was full and we were made to feel like this was our error and we were embarrassed about the way the manager spoke to us and tone that was used. We felt we were not welcome and would be uncomfortable eating our lunch here. We took our business elsewhere. The whole situation could have been handled better by the manager and a solution thought of before making us feel so unwelcome.

A pub stating to be dog friendly, probably should revoke that. On entry, two men sat at a table were disgusted with us bringing our dogs in and voiced this, despite them being under control, kept close to us at our table and friendly. Members of the bar staff were terrified of our dogs so wouldn’t come near the table, I had to lean over to grab my drink. Nice location near to walking routes and nice pub. Food was average and not expensive, got what we paid for. I ordered a drink that had to be sent back as it tasted flavourless, then the bar staff questioned why, and informed me there shouldn’t be a problem, and gave me the same drink which tasted exactly the same (I didn’t drink it). Wouldn’t return with our dogs. Uncomfortable experience.

Restored my faith in dining out during the festive season. There is nothing at all negative to say, the staff are great, respectful, helpful and just attentive enough. The food, we couldn’t have our original starter pick due to a none delivery, we were offered an alternative that was equally as lovely. Our main choice was the lamb and it was just perfect. We four friends go out for a meal every month so we have been to most of the dining pubs around Hexham and Corbridge. We all agreed that our visit to The Boatside Inn was fantastic. The menu was great for our taste and the food quality was superb without being too expensive. The atmospher was perfect - busy but not loud so we could easily converse. Add to this the very friendly and accommodating owners and it means that the next place we go has a very hard act to follow. We expect to return soon.

Visited with a good friend for lunch. We have come to the Boat quite often in the past as it is midway between both our homes. I'm not sure if the business has changed hands, but the food has certainly changed direction, no more steak pie and chips, or gammon egg and chips, pub favourites, and personal favourites. However, I must say, the food we had was good, although my chicken Balmoral was a bit short on quantity for my appetite. The service was also good. I'm not sure which market the owners are aiming for now when it comes to food, I left a bit confused, but wish them well.

Called in while on a family walk in the area and made to feel very very unwelcome the guy who was managing made us feel very uncomfortable regarding the 2dogs I had although people in the pub had been stroking them he told us to move from the bar and sit on a table that had become vacant which we said yes no problem but as soon as I sat down a lady came from behind the bar and shouted NO NOT THERE THATS BOOKED in front of everyone So we had literally no where to sit My wife and daughter had to just stand while i finished my drink and left This is probably the 10th time we have been but never ever again It’s dog friendly but definitely not dog friendly The man who works there needs to man up and either get a job in a non dog friendly establishment or better still not in hospitality Ps the food has always been very good and we never had a problem with the previous staff

We ordered two drinks and two bar meals at the bar before sitting at our bar table. Hot beef sandwiches with chips both very good and filling. My only gripe, is that the staff failed to tell me they had charged me 12 and a half % service charge, on a light lunch bar meal. It may be optional but really! Nice setting and pub very clean, food however disappointing, steak was average and the curry special listed as korma but was watery with little flavour!

Such a disappointment. We had eaten here before Covid when in the area on holiday. We visited for lunch one day a few weeks ago - that was fine. A reasonable choice on the menu and nicely presented. However we regret returning for dinner to meet up with family. The ‘ famous Boatside fish pie’ is to be avoided if you want more than a tiny scrap of salmon to digest. As for the potato topping : it was thin and somewhat watery and not a pleasant experience. We are not tempted to return anytime soon. Such a shame. The location is ideal and the interior inviting but the food needs serious attention and improvement to reach the standard promised on the website.

Second review this year. My family treated me to a lovely beef roast dinner for Fathers Day. Again the food was absolutely beautiful, delicious and the beef just melted in my mouth. Great friendly service and a a special mention the Manager Steven. Well done to you and all the staff. Ticked all the boxes for me. Cant wait to return.

I can't recommend this place highly enough. Huge room, huge bed, fab shower, all amenities. Warm. Quiet. In lovely location with riverside walks nearby. The food is great. Affordable and delicious supper and great coffee at breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff and very dog friendly. Really easy and convenient parking. It was a wrench to leave.

Just stayed a couple of nights at the Boatside with our dog. The cottage style room at the back of the pub are well equipped and felt freshly decorated. Friendly staff in the pub managed to squeeze us in for dinner on the Friday night and directed us to local dog walking spots. Perfectly located for exploring all the Roman history and nearby Hexham. The only downside was the site which lies between the railway and the road, luckily neither were too noisy.

My partner and I were married at the Parlour at the end of March this year and couldn’t recommend it enough. Whilst planning the wedding we met with Naomi and more recently Toyah and they’re absolutely wonderful at helping you plan your day and making sure everything runs smoothly. The food on the day was absolutely incredible and we received so many compliments from guests about the food and how beautiful the venue was. Can’t remember the name of the lady who was coordinator on the day of our wedding (she did have light blonde hair) but we couldn’t recommend her enough, she was absolutely amazing at talking us through the day and ensuring that everything ran smoothly. The bridal suite and dressing room were so beautiful and spacious and look great since the refurbishments. We couldn’t recommend the place and the staff enough, they truly were great in making our wedding day special. Thanks so much xx

We ate here twice during the bank holiday and both times the food was amazing! The sirloin steak and sausage and mash were delicious! The service was also impressive. Staff were efficient, polite and attentive.
