Food was fine. Nothing memorable. It was value for money.

Really nice experience, staff friendly and professional. Food was exceptionally nice and super quick in serving. Recommend this Mexican eating place.

Got a takeaway last night from there. I have never had a less enjoyable meal. It’s an affront to Mexican food. I don’t review but this compelled me. Tread wearily.

We had a great evening and enjoyed our visit tremendously. I lived in california for 12 years and love Mexican food, so we ordered an assortment of tacos, taquitos, tostados, and a chimichanga. The chimichanga was not deep fried, it was oven baked a a bit on the dry side. Prawn with cucumber salsa was as wet and bland as the Scottish weather during our visit (very!). BUT, the barbecoa beef, tinge (chicken), fish tacos of the day, and guacamole and chips were super tasty! Started with delicious margaritas, and followed up with a great botttle of Malbec. Would definitely go here again.

Husband and I were there for a meal tonight with ITISON voucher. Would highly recommend it. Food lovely and hot chicken wings were perfect for my husband who loves hot and spicy food. Staff were friendly and very helpful as I couldn't handle the heat of some food, but know what to go for on our next visit.

Found this place as we were looking for a late evening snack. Service was great, staff were knowledgeable on the dishes. Food came out quickly, all things considered! No fuss or frills, just fantastic Mexican deliciousness. Only one photo to show for the amazing tapas, tostadas. We tried tostadas, wings, dressed fries and tacos. Would highly recommend and already planning our return to Scotland for this amazing food!

This place is amazing. Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere and delicious food. The price of food is cheap compared to other restaurants. Me and my girlfriend loved it here and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

Generally great, food was lovely. Service is extremely fast - not necessarily a bad thing but we sat down to eat at 18.00 and had finished by 18.13. Something to bear in mind if you're looking for a longer sit down meal as the prices are more evening meal than quick takeaway! Also the kids portions were tiny - more of a small snack, we ordered some other small plates to top them up.

Food was amazing, so tasty. Staff were all very friendly and helpful when we were trying to decide on which dishes to choose. Lovely restaurant. Next time we visit Edinburgh, we will definitely eat here.

I went here with my family and they all loved it! I’m veggie and they had great options, and my mum cannot handle spice and she loved her food. They have a great variety of food, both smaller dishes and larger dishes. The service was excellent as well. I highly recommend coming by if you’re looking for good food.

Having just arrived in Edinburgh, we did a quick Google search of local restaurants and Topolabamba stood out. We turned up at around 7:30 on a Friday night and got lucky with pretty much the last table in the place. The atmosphere was vibrant but relaxed and the staff and service were spot on throughout. Food was absolutely fantastic, and served very quickly. We had about 6 tapas dishes plus a side of tortilla chips between 2 of us which was perfect for a hungry couple after a long drive. Every dish was full of flavour and handily marked on the menu for how hot they were. Quesadillas were a favourite as were the honey pork tortillas and gringo fries. Our only regret is that it's such a long way for us to visit again!

Got very bad food poisoning here on Sunday and would advise you stay away. A friend and I went for a meal as we were told there was a 40% off food deal on. We arrived at 12:00 and were served our food by ten past - The tacos were not the warmest and the quality was poor. It was clear that they had it in a hot pot cooker and were just slapping it into a shell. The pico de gallo was really underwhelming, and the enchiladas had no flavor. To add, the Virgin Margarita was just strawberry juice with chunky ice, no crushed ice like a proper margarita would. We paid £40 and were really disappointment as was... then about 3 hours later I had to run to the toilet in scenes akin to John Hurt in Alien. It was just constant upset stomach for about a day and a half. My friend who ate with me also got sick at her home as well. Really nothing to recommend about this experience. I will say our server was friendly but that is about it. Would not recommend.

We went for lunch and really enjoyed the lunch deal. Staff were really lovely and welcoming. The food was really good!! The are plenty of gluten free choices and we had a great time. Lili was our waitress and they were absolutely lovely, welcoming, friendly and REALLY helpful. Lili made a big positive impact on our visit and we look forward to coming back with colleagues. One issue was the toilets, the smell of urine was really bad. I forgot to mention it to staff Apart from that, really good food at a really good deal made for a really good lunch :)

Went in tonight spur of the moment. Food was very tasty... on the spicy side. I definitely recommend the meatballs, the green rice was fragrant and tasty. Nice place to mix food and share. Staff were very nice and friendly. Portions were a good size and well priced.

Nič moc, porcie pomerne malé, stavané tak, aby si človek objednal viacero jedál naraz, pričom cena jedného jedla je okolo 7-9 €. Chuť nič extra, čistá voda automaticky pri príchode bola fajn, ale narozdiel od iných reštaurácií ju už viac nedoplnili. Automaticky účtované sprepitné nás tiež nemilo prekvapilo. Nothing extra, relatively small portion, made to ordering more meals for one person, while price of food is about 7-9 £. Taste was fine, but not so special. Fresh water automatically after arrival was nice, but compared to other restaurants, it wasn't refilled. We were also unpleasantly surprised by the automatically charged tip.

We attended as a group of 3 prior to Christmas for some tapas. We ordered approx 8 plates of tapas. The food came 5 mins after ordering (always questionable) which at the time tasted fine. The same evening 2 of us had severe nausea and diaorrea and the other felt extremely unwell that same night. I contacted topolabamba immediately the next day to inform them of this and they failed take any responsibility that such a coincidence pointed back to their food. I also had to chase the twice for some sort of communication only to be offered a voucher as compensation. Safe to say I declined the voucher as I would never go back. My point is they were extremely dismissive the fact that 2 pregnant women in their 3rd trimester picked up food poisoning from their restaurant which could have been detrimental to our babies. Will not be back.

Good food but the music was overly loud

I am the sort of person who hates overeating and feeling bloated. Every time I visit here, I leave feeling like I'm about to explode. I just can't stop eating, and even when I'm stuffed I still want the cheesecake.

It is a nice idea to have small portions to be able to try different dishes. The food is OKish, and if we didn't had a 20E discount for an early reservation it would be seriously overpriced. The music was a tad loud. (Rap does not get better in Spanish).

Managed to squeeze us in for a quick bite before the show, quick service, tasty food, spicy slaw, good prices

We’ve been to Glasgow West End and Edinburgh. Both venues had outstanding atmosphere and wonderful Service. the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was stunning in taste and presentation and well priced. We will definitely be returning customers, a new favourite! I wish we’d lived closer because they have lunch deals on and a taco happy hour. There is no parking onsite but being city centre there will be plenty of places near by. I recommend Tommys margarita, chicken tinga tacos and the loaded fries if you’re a first timer - you won’t be disappointed!

Love this place, only Mexican restaurant we know of who does Queso and chips too! Highly recommended if you’re in Edinburgh and looking for an Authentic Mexican food. We loved the staff here too, very attentive and kind!!

Great food and staff, alway love to eat here when in Edinburgh.

Food is very nice but it's not the cheapest place. For 4 people our bill came to about £160. It's a bit like a tapas bar where you pick several small dishes rather than a starter, then a main etc... I'd have preferred more traditional Mexican music rather than the poppies stuff that they played. It has some gluten free dishes which was important to us.

Entramos porque nos llamó la atención el local. Es muy chulo y muy agradable. Fueron muy rápidos atendiendonos. Por un tema personal no pudimos comer allí y tuvimos que irnos cuando ya nos habían traído la comida a la mesa, pero fueron encantadores y nos lo prepararon todo para llevar. Los nachos con guacamole muy buenos, pican un poquito. Pedimos los 3 tacos chiplote and honey pork y el Big boy Stuffed Chimichangas. Me encantó el sitio y la comida. Recomendado cien por cien

This place is not looking after their staff at all, a few days ago I saw a situation where the server was disrespected by one of the customers who ask here stupid private questions (which should never happen nowadays), and next to the server was a manager who didn't say anything to this customer ( look like he really not care about how staff and customer around feel like), in my opinion this customer should be kicking out of the restaurant, because that is not the atmosphere I'm looking for where I'm coming to restaurant.

What a nice place. Interior is great. The staff are extra helpful, multiple waiters and waitresses were making sure everything was okay and if we needed anything. The food is incredible, really tasty. Espresso martini and Margheritas are also very good. Very impressed 👍

I ate here today with my family of four, my wife and I and our two boys (8 months and 4 years old) We didn't have a booking but the restaurant was pretty much empty when we arrived (given it was 5ish on a Wednesday that wasn't a surprise) The host at the door took one look at us (the baby) and said he could fit us in but onto for an hour as they had bookings and we would need to out by 5:50 From there on out it felt like we just weren't wanted in this restaurant, one member of staff was helpful and friendly but all others looked like we were inconveniencing them. Worryingly when we ordered, possibly because they wanted us out of there, the food arrived within minutes ( and we're talking like sub-4 minutes) so I'd question the freshness of the food generally. We also had to remind them that our son was waiting on food from the kids menu (yes they do have one despite not apparently wanting families at their restaurant). The food was ok, there was a lot of things that arrived dumped on top of the food that wasn't stated in the menu, and we weren't at any point asked whether we had any allergies, so it's a good job we didn't. These are small things that could be added to the menu quite easily so diners know what they're eating before it arrives. Similarly on the drinks menu, two beers are stated on tap, they're not mainstream beers which I'm all for but I had to ask what types of beer they were before ordering and the waitress had to check. Just a simple (Lager) and (IPA) on the menu would be so much better. Overall it was disappointing to be treated in such a way apparently because we had kids. There was no queue of people at the doors when we left (we overstayed our welcome by about 4 mins - oops!) And there was probably 10 tables that were just vacant, so I really struggle to believe that the rush to get us in and out was down to high numbers of bookings. I didn't have time or the patience to ask them to remove the discretionary service charge they added to the bill, despite not really receiving said service.

Being an American in the UK I’ve really missed good Mexican food. The chicken taquitos were amazing! Reminded me of the good Mexican from back home. The chicken and onion quesadilla was just ok but I’d go back and get the taquitos in a heart beat and try something else too

I booked a visit here for my vegetarian husband and two kids after reading some of the good reviews. It didn’t disappoint. Lots of choice on the menu, good atmosphere and service was really attentive. Staff really helpful - answering questions about the true heat of some of the dishes. Kids menu available- my ten year old had chicken tacos and sorbet for dessert and loved them. Wish we had one of these in Leamington Spa where we live!

Excellent atmosphere and extensive, interesting looking menu. Service was efficient but impersonal, there was no explanation of how to order in tapas style (although it was made clear on the menu) and at no point were we asked if we were enjoying our food or not. Food was above average although not as special as the menu made it sound. Overall an enjoyable evening but wouldn't rush back.

My partner and I came here on Tuesday and we had the best experience. This is our favourite place to eat and we always come once a month. The food is always so good, my partner is obsessed with the beef tacos, he get 3 plates at a time haha.the wait time for the food is also speedy fast which is amazing when you’re hungry. The atmosphere is amazing with little details around the restaurant. What made this experience amazing was our waiter! Our waitresses in the past have been ok but Jorge was so fun and nice. He took time to ask us what we are up to and offered us extra napkins without us even asking as he could see we needed them. These little things made a big difference in the whole experience. We were all cracking jokes which made everything even more enjoyable! So thank you Jorge!

Food and cocktails were great, and all reasonably priced. The fish tacos were the best thing we tried. The jalapeño poppers weren't great but not bad, there are just better things on the menu. I would highly recommend.

I ordered Topolabamba delivery through Deliveroo. I had a beef chimichanga, pico, and cheesecake. The chimichanga was spot on. I'm from California where Mexican food is a staple. They grilled the burrito instead of deep frying it which is more common in CA - but I liked this approach better. The cheesecake I ordered was beautifully presented. I just wish it had tasted as good as it looked. It was not very flavorful I'm sorry to say, I ended up tossing it, but I will order from here again - maybe I'll even make my way to the restaurant!

This was a great place with brilliant tasty food and excellent value but now it's a bit pricey for tapas style plates. Not surprised with the price increase due cost of living, but our group meal was considerably more expensive than it was 6 months ago. Our group agreed that it is no longer good value to dine here and there are better options in the city.

Nice texmex restaurant. Serves tapas sized dishes and larger dishes. Staff helpful and asked about allergens. I ordered seafood chimichanga which tasted great. It came from the large menu which advises ordering 2 tapas or sides to go with a large dish. I would argue that was too much and one side is enough. Had the chipotle honey pork and oaxcan onion quesadilla and crab ceviche tostada. The quesadilla was my favourite. The crab was OK but nothing to rave about. My table had several other dishes which they all enjoyed. My son was unable to finish and took a box with his untouched food home to have for lunch over the next couple of days. Atmosphere was nice with pencils at the table to leave your mark on the wall of you want to. Staff were really helpful and service was speedy. Cocktails looked great. Wife and daughter enjoyed. Would recommend a visit if you enjoy texmex. Just try not to over order and remember the big menu is bigger than the menu says.

Good food, not exactly "tapas" but still tasteful. Service was extremely neglectful, and the space was small but well decorated.

When I lived in the USA, it was easy to get delicious, inexpensive Tex-Mex food. Sadly, the 2 or 3 times I've gone for Tex-Mex in the UK, the food has ranged from bad to vile. I was pleasantly surprised by several items I ordered at Topolabamba. They had plenty of choice for vegetarians, which is always a plus. The standout for me was the Crazy Corn, which was really delicious: the perfect amount of spicing, and just plain gorgeous. The cauliflower 'wings' were also very tasty. The veg fondue was nice, too: good flavour, not too cheesy, which would have been too rich. The chips were a little bit too salty for me, but were nice and crisp, and they stayed crisp even when loaded with dip. The guacamole and sour cream were what you wold expect. The ensalata Caesar was a lovely idea, but it was just some wilted lettuce with chips on top. And the black bean and cactus quesadillas didn't really work for me. The salsa verde was good but for me had a bit too much cumin in it. Overall, I enjoyed most of my meal, and would certainly order from Topolabamba again. Portions were generous, everything was attractively and well-packaged, and the menu items I enjoyed were the best Tex-Mex I've eaten in the UK. And next time I order from Topolabamba, I'll double up on both the sweetcorn and the cauliflower 'wings'.

Colourful cocktails with low alcohol content. Many gluten-free, vegan options, clearly labelled in the menu. I recommend the mushrooms and butternut squash soft tacos. Corn tortillas were too salty. Fast and attentive service. Loud atmosphere on a Saturday evening. 3 stars for expensive low tequila content margarita and poor quality too salty tortillas.

Staff very good but the crab civiche on the menu is not actually civiche as it's just cooked tinned crab. Told the maitradee but was told it was just the wrong name and still paid in full despite it not being correct. The churros were dry. Margaritas made fresh were great though. Overall good experience but the menu should be updated.

Was pleasantly surprised how good the food was - we loved all our dishes, especially the Chicken mole enchilada and the barbacoa taquitos. And our server Lili was attentive and knowledgeable. Loved the cool light fixtures too!

Nice place with good food. Some portions are very big so not a good idea to mix the tapas and the main course like I did! 2 or 3 tapas at most will do most folk with healthy appetites. Service decent enough but could probably have done with more waiting staff on given it was a Saturday evening during the Fringe. Fair value for what you get though so all in all pretty happy.

This is probably the worst Mexican food I’ve ever paid for in my entire life. My girlfriend and I were visiting from California and I had heard that people from the UK don’t have tastebuds, but I didn’t know it was this bad. We got several tacos that looked as if I threw them together while I was blacked out drunk and tasted worse than that. The margarita was super weak and not filled up to the brim and after the waiter took our order we never heard from them again. To be fair, the quesadilla was pretty good. Also I was a bit suspicious that the food came out so quickly after we ordered - our entire dining experience lasted about 20 minutes. But judging by how bad the food was I wasn’t surprised by how little time the cooks spent preparing it.

The atmosphere was fun and Inviting with nice lighting and decor. But that’s unfortunately where my compliments end. the food was awful…. We ordered the crab ceviche which had more lettuce than crab, carne asada tacos that were super chewy and dry, fish tacos that were also dry and flavorless, and the honey chipotle pork quesadilla which was def the best thing we ordered but nothing special. We also got the Tommy’s margaritas- the glass was like halfway full when it came out and was more sugar than alcohol. Also, weirdly our food came out so fast? It was the quickest and most rushed dinner experience I’ve ever had. If you like Mexican food or have had decent Mexican food do not come here

Very good food, fast service. Just a touch overpriced unfortunately. The service charge is hefty also!!! This is not the USA service charge should be optional and not included in the itemised bill. Otherwise always well looked after.

Nice place with good food and brilliant atmosphere.

This tapas style mexican is phenomenal. The dishes come out quickly, hot and fresh. I hate coriander, so i always ask for it not to be added. Each of my dishes did not come with coriander. By virtue of this, the chef and staff listen, attentive, checking everything is good with the meal. The dishes are tasty, authentic and I would recommend 2-3 per person. I'm a bit greedy and so would order 3-4 for sharing. The smoked chicken taquito is my favourite but having tried most of the dishes, i wasn't disappointed with any of them. Highly recommended and it is best to book ahead.

Easy and quick lunch. Nice clean place and staff were attentive without being a pest . Food was tasty and quick, reasonably priced and happily go back again. £60 for lunch for 3 which was 2 set lunches + 1 main menu item, 1 starter, 1 lager and 2 soft drinks. Including 10% service charge, felt about right for food quality.

Good food, the Churros was the highlight. Could definitely be spicier across the board but an overall good experience. Much thanks to our waiter, Sonja!

The toastadas we got were basically all lettuce with a bit of cream on them and very tiny amounts of the actual filling they were supposed to have (despite lettuce not even being mentioned on the menu as a ingredient but actually being the main one) - very underwhelming. We ordered two virgin mango margaritas which were just plain mango juice in small glasses, compared to the alcoholic cocktails which were way bigger. But we also got a burrito and enchilada which were nice, along with some tasty churros.

The food was delicious as well as the drinks. Might be a bit spicy to sensitive people and would recommend the quesedillas for them. Overall an amazing experience:)

Excellent for gluten free. Their normal menu lists foods as gluten free or not but doesn't list may contains so worth asking for the allergy menu. A server told me there's no cross contamination in the kitchen for gluten. Certainly I haven't got ill and we've eaten there twice - I'm pretty sensitive and can hardly eat out anywhere. So I'm delighted. Food was really good. Frozen margaritas also excellent- not overly sweet. Staff were obviously very busy but the service was excellent and they worked really hard to be polite, helpful and friendly. All staff v allergy aware. Definitely book ahead.

Firstly I just want to say I’ve been toTopolabamba a few times . First time ever going was amazing second time food I felt was very much over seasoned ( far far to spicy and salty ) third time was the exact same . I couldn’t enjoy the meal at all because my mouth felt like it was on fire I can handle hot food but it was unnecessary hot for no reason like someone had just dumped a whole tub off chilli flakes over the entire meal . I couldn’t finish my meal which I was largely disappointed as I usually enjoy it and the bill was 35 pounds in total which in my eyes was a massive waste of money to not enjoy the meal . The tortilla chips we ordered came out with a dip that I did not like was meant to be tomato based and came out green maybe it’s meant to look like that but the girl that served us had no clue when I asked to help decide on a dip and it made me feel like I guess we just had to take a risk . When I asked the girl why the food I felt was too spicy . She did offer to get me some sour cream which was great but made a silly remark about “ oh I don’t no maybe they are just heavy handed with the spices in the kitchen tonight “ And laughed and it honestly made me feel like she did not care that I didn’t enjoy the meal and couldn’t be bothered helping me find something else or offer to take off the bill . In most restaurants I’ve been to in this situation customer service has been far better . I felt mocked and not taken seriously here . I am very disappointed as I rarely go out for food and don’t tend to spend money like this . So yeah this isn’t the best review I hope this reaches the team and they can maybe look into how they are preparing the food in future . But sadly this time coming to the restaurant it was a massive no don’t waste your money go somewhere else .

Lili our waitstaff was so lovely. Very bubbly from the get go and gave us excellent food recommendations. Was very patient with our slow ordering, and the interior was really well decorated. Will be back next time we’re in Edinburgh.

The chips & salsa were delicious and the margaritas were quite tasty. We had a slight mixup with a food allergy but the staff was extremely sympathetic and quick to resolve the issue. I would come at least once a week if I lived here. Highly recommend!

I went in for some Beef taquitos and they were really well cooked and perfect for a little lunch snack. I was also served by Keisha who was absolutely brilliant! She was so nice too. 10/10 would highly recommend Topolabamba!

Really lovely food and service. The food does come out very quickly so I advise to stagger your order to make the experience last longer. The cocktails are also top tier
