Sabor Criollo in Edinburgh, City of

This is an absolute gem in Edinburgh, always great food and service. The sea bass main is particularly scrumptious. I would recommend this place to anybody, as I am yet to have any disappointing experience here, and is my favourite dining experience in Scotland, if not the UK.

This place just delivers. We’ve been going for at least fifteen years, never had a bad experience. Lovely tasty food, great service and well priced. It doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t. Just an excellent, honest, local restaurant. It deserves its longevity.

The empanadas were really tasty, but they should specify that it’s ground beef and not shredded. The tequeños were very good, and the guacamole had a great flavor

One of the best kept secrets in Edinburgh. Delicious food, brilliant service and a genuine and authentic atmosphere makes for a fantastic dining experience. The food is delicious, the chilli guacamole dip is unbelievable.

The place is cute and the staff seemed nice even if we interacted very little. The food was honestly quite sad. I had heard great things about the place and was looking forward to some homey food. We walked in on a perhaps busy night, so maybe that accounts for our experience. Waited for a while for someone to come get the order. We got our starters after 30 mins if not longer, and decided to cancel the rest. We got the yuca frita which was more boiled than fried, not really crunchy or yummy. A cachapa with cheese, which was way too watery, bits of cheese in little water puddles on top of the cachapa. Lastly we got the tequeños which perhaps needed a couple minutes more in the fryer as we bit into the first two and the block of cheese came out of the pastry. It all came to about 19£ which all things considered wasn't worth it. Sadly wouldn't recommend it as of now!

Nachos has less than a teaspoon of beef on them. Chicken tasted bland and lacking flavour. Staff never gave the correct change. If you are not a regular then the staff just don't care. As you can see from their responses on their reviews.

Sabor was very special Latin restaurant I have ever seen in my entire of life! Friendly staff,tasty, relaxed space with very nice background Latin music and most important, high quality of foods. Try this restaurant and thanks me later!

Lovely experience here this evening. Friendly staff, delicious authentic food in very homely and cosy surroundings. Everything was so tasty, the 'three milk cake' for pudding is to die for, so save some room! Will be visiting again soon and would recommend 😊

Nothing about Venezuelan food. The chicken fajitas trestles insipid. The Pabellón Margariteño was horrendous . wasted time and money

Delicious quesadillas and empanadas! The restaurant has a lot of charm, with its beautiful, immersive Venezuelan-themed decoration. The servers are also very courteous and efficient. Top cocktails too.

The food was absolutely fantastic. However, the service was only partially good. We had the feeling that we weren't 100% welcome as tourists. But the employee was still friendly, no question. The restaurant is definitely recommended.

Because it looked inviting from the outside, we luckily ended up in this small restaurant in the basement. What a lovely evening with genuine South American food, all freshly prepared and served with genuine hospitality.

Por sorpresa nos hemos encontrado con este restaurante de comida latina, y la verdad que la experiencia no podría ser mejor después de unas cuantas comidas británicas por la zona. La comida Venezuelana y mexicana estaba riquísima y el trato del personal y la camarera increíble. Nos hizo sentir como en casa. Sin duda el mejor sitio para comer en Edimburgo.

A genuine hidden gem. A few other taco and latin american places in Edinburgh make more noise when it comes to their marketing and social media etc but this place is the real deal. Super authentic, great menu, simple ingredients and nice chilled out vibes. Can't believe I walked past for years and have only just recently been. thoroughly recommend.

If you want to try some Latino/Venezuelan cuisine look no further, this restaurant is the place to choose from among many in the big Scottish capital! Went there to try it out and didn't regret my choice one bit! This one lady also did the whole experience more memorable for me due her extreme friendliness. Mercedes it's her name! It's always a great pleasure to go back to Sabor Criollo. A cozy space with a pleasant atmosphere where Muhammad's (and his colleagues) dishes comprised of Latino/Venezuelan food always fill the soul with joy. All the members of staff are lovely there, Wilmary always has a smile to offer, Zeevar the friendly approach and nobody makes people feel welcomed as Mercedes. Been taking friends to introduce them to the cuisine only Sabor Criollo offers in Edinburgh and will keep doing it for many years to come.

Ate here with my daughter and her partner- who has eaten here before. It was brilliant - authentic and homely. Felt like I was eating home made food - all of which was delicious. The prawns pil pil were soooo good- everything was good! We loved it and it will become a regular!

We got empanadas and they were excellent! I’m vegetarian so I got the Domino which is black bean and cheese and it was so good. My girlfriend got the one with plantains in it and said it was great as well. Really cool place with delicious food. Truly a hidden gem.

Best mojitos ever. Nice family restaurant. Portions on the small size but tasty.

Came here on friday just before it stsrted getting busy so Book a reservation. Head down stairs and your welcomed to a cozy little restaurant with friendly staff. Food was amazing, all of it. Worth the visit, definitely going back

The food is decent, but quite bland: little flavour and literally no spices. We had the beef enchilada and the pabellon margariteno (a fish dish), and were quite disappointed. We also had a tres leches as dessert, which was not good at all. This place is also on the pricey side, considering the kind of food they serve.

We stumbled upon this place and it did not disappoint! The food was incredible, very authentic and the margaritas were the best ive ever had! I wish I'd taken some photos but before I could remember, I had eaten everything it was so moreish! Highly recommend anyone to visit - you will not regret it!

This place was SO YUMMY!! As Americans visiting Edinburgh we were craving mexican food. This place satisfied our craving while still being very different than a standard American Mexican joint. The food was DELICIOUS and the service was great! 10/10!

Unpretentious family run basement venue - every dish a winner - excellent service , no lengthy descriptions or bugging during the courses - reasonable cost for food and drink , a pitcher of margarita is about £25 ! - nice atmosphere -

Ordered and the delivery time kept getting pushed so I tried to cancel so I could order somewhere with better delivery and it wouldn’t let me, called the place and the guy was rude to me because I didn’t want the food that was made and sitting for ages - I tried to explain they should not make the food if they don’t have the delivery person but he actually told me he didn’t care it was just eats problem with the delivery. Rude, the food was actually ok but not great and absolutely priced too high for what you get. Would never recommend or go back.

An amazing little place, we snuck in at opening at 17:00, because this place was booked to the brim for the evening… It's very easy to tell why. Delicious food; fantastic, kind and proactive staff; and lovely and loved in atmosphere.

As American ex-pats, one of the things my kids miss most is being able to find good Mexican food in Europe. So we were excited to find Sabor Criollo, which is a bit off the beaten path in Edinburgh, but was a nice option with both Mexican and Venezuelan dishes, with good vegetarian options. My wife and I each enjoyed an arepa, and the kids ended up getting three orders of nachos and a quesadilla. Even if it wasn't the best Mexican food we've ever had, it was certainly an enjoyable meal for a reasonable price.

Good fresh tasty food , friendly staff/service and great value

Visited this restaurant at the weekend, having not been in it in over 10 years. Glad to say that the food is still fantastic. The nachos starter was delish, as was the quesadillas and enchiladas main course. The decor creates an authentic welcoming atmosphere and we were served by the owner himself, due to us booking an early slot. My only criticism would be that they need an A board or sign of some sort up on the street to encourage passing trade as the place is quite easy to miss if you don’t know it’s there. We will definitely be returning again in the near future.

Cheerful and bright atmosphere but several mistakes made with food orders. Server notified of mushroom allergy yet Quesadillas had to be sent back as they contained mushrooms. An incorrect fish dish was served and when raised with waiting staff, the server disputed this. Overall, food was average and service slow with dishes being brought out individually meaning some people had to wait for 5-10 minutes whilst others were eating. More organisation and checking orders to avoid confusion would go along way!

Tiny but the food is so good, it’s really worth booking rather than stopping by on spec - the quesadilla supreme was delicious and the fried yucca made a very pleasant and unusual starter!

Popped in for a very quick late lunch when everywhere else was closed. We were the only two there. Our burritos and tacos were delicious. Extensive menu of Mexican and Venezuelan dishes. Cocktails served. Looked like a potentially lively place for the evening but I can't comment because I was there late afternoon.

Arepa’s were decent, only had two slices of plantains, a little pricey for the amount of filling. Service was friendly. We walked in without a booking, but bookings seem to be preferred.

The food is amazing and the staff even better. I really don't get the fact that if someone isn't happy with their food, don't notify that to the staff and I'm pretty sure that they will fix it then. But noooo, is better to come to social media to badmounthed them.

The food was extremely disappointing, which was such a surprise when so many of the reviews are so positive. It seemed pretty obvious to us that the dishes we had were heated from frozen. The £17.50 Gambas Pil Pil was frozen prawns in a simple sauce with spicy rice. If the rice wasn't microwave in a bag it was a good imitation. The beef chili in the enchiladas was cold, while the plate was steaming hot after being nuked in the microwave. The tequenos and croquetas tasted from frozen too. The stand out disappointment was the guacamole, £2.50 for two tablespoons of squeezy supermarket guac. For a garnish that is so easy to make delicious it was just awful. Our server was lovely, but was completely over-stretched meaning we got very little attention. It really was a shame. Cocktails were well priced, and okay. I wonder if the head chef recently decided that cooking from fresh just wasn't worth it financially. Or perhaps we were just very unlucky in our choices! I wish I could say otherwise, but I absolutely would not recommend Sabor Criollo.

Cold on delivery. Driver took a detour south of royal mile on app when i am most clearly north of stockbridge. Not happy tonight.

Small and very nice place with delicious food from Mexico all the way down to Venezuela. A favorite place in Stockbridge also with a gluten free and dairy free offering. Try the rice with beans and beef or the quesedillas.

Great place to try authentic South American cuisine. Very tasty dishes perfectly executed, and fried food was crispy and not dripping with oil. Fantastic beef & cheese filling in the empanadas, and a good wine selection to accompany. Very polite service, and overall meal was excellent. We'll definitely be back when in the area.

Great food, sangria and service. Particular highlights were the chilli beef arepa, the bacalao croquettes and the chicken tacos. Well priced too. Would happily eat here again!
