Had the lunch menu and was surprised at the large portions! The chicken quesadillas were very cheesy and filling but I wish it came with a dip on the side (like sour cream or salsa). Food came out very fast and was served fresh and warm.

The food is great and the service was also great! So if you like mexican food I can recommend this place!

Update April 2025: they have changed the menu. We got our usual dishes but they were not the same e.g. toppings, flavour profiles etc. Note if you are a regular you will need to re-choose your dishes. Delicious tacos! Great service, attentive staff and food comes out quickly. Our favourite taco joint in Edinburgh!

Incredible food and great service. Picked it out because I needed somewhere that did good gluten free and lactose intolerant food - as soon as we walked in they handed us a special allergen menu with all the gluten items removed. All the food was great (recommend lots of sharing plates - Street food or classics) but the honey shredded pork soft tacos were mindblowing. Good cocktails too, really fast and friendly service, and reasonable prices!

Really delicious food, wonderful space, but bad service. One waiter was on our backs 45 minutes before closing, first she ushed us to get wine and dessert, and then she wanted us to leave. We left wine behind 20 minutes to closing, just to get away from her. Not a nice experience.

If you have never eaten mexican food before, then maybe you will find it passable. When coming into this very overly decorated restaurant and hearing the random Spanish music, I was already prepared for not getting any authentic Mexican food. But it was even worse. Didn’t taste like anything Mexican and even if you don’t have the expectation to eat anything Mexican, it’s just not really good. Very plain, dry and boring. For what we got it was ridiculously expensive. The staff were very friendly, but even the good service couldn’t save the experience for me. I see no reason to go there, especially when you are looking for Mexican food.

A mass-marketed and pretentious „mexican“ restaurant—the service is alright, it‘s decorated in an extremely over-the-top „mexican“ style, but all fine—the food however: the food was the blandest, most offensive, and boring slop i‘d ever eaten. the burrito i ate was, somehow, completely flavourles, and the rice and purple slop they gave me on the side was literally inedible, it was like eating cardboard. then, they had the nerve to charge my friend and i £61 for that embarrassing meal. if you‘re looking for real mexican food, DO NOT go here.

Used to be the go-to place for lunch, express deal is still very good value for money. The service is still brilliant - huge credit to the staff. However, the menu changes leave a lot to be desired. Was so disappointed with some of the changes.

We love mexican food, and this came up and was also recommended. Not a disappointment, great food, brilliant service and reasonably priced.

This was a really fun restaurant and everyone was so kind. The only problem was that everything was so spicy. Maybe we're wimps, but we couldn't handle it.

Was extremely disappointed that this place didn’t live up to its expectations. The food was incredibly bland and dry. It lacked everything to do with what Mexican food is about. I hope I visited when the head chef wasn’t around or an under-qualified staff member had to temporarily fill in because that could be the only excuse it was that bad. No flavour or excitement in the dishes. Food came out minutes after ordering which was also a red flag. Staff were nice and understanding but would never step foot in this place again and the reviews are not a true reflection of the food. Nacho Libre would be devastated…

A decent place to grab some food and drinks. The tacos were fine, but the tortillas themselves tasted a bit raw, and it was plated up in like a pile - it was a bit difficult and messy to eat, and would have been nicer if they'd been served as individual tacos. The spice level was good. It was quite filling too - you could get away with just having 2 small plates per person. 3 was too many for me. Service was fine, if a bit sparse. This is probably just policy but they don't really check in to see if you need anything. The servers themselves were super friendly though. The atmosphere was good - the decor is a bit stereotypical and kitchy but sometimes thats what you want! Overall, a fine experience.

First time in. Or server was Lili who took her time to explain everything and answer numerous questions. Food was exceptional as was the service. Only down side was the that the restaurant smelled like the drains had backed up. First class though and we will be back

My girlfriend and I called in for lunch and both enjoyed the food immensely - great options, very reasonably priced (the lunchtime deal was especially reasonable, and the portions generous to say the least. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned. The cocktails we had were also delicious. The staff were extremely helpful and efficient, and the service was among the fastest we've experienced (our food took no longer than 10-15 minutes from us ordering it to it being served!). Definitely somewhere we would both recommend to anyone, and well worth calling into if you are in the area.

After being turned away from Las Iguanas on George Street where we were refused even indoor waiting space despite having a reservation and having young children and a senior in our group, finding Topolabamba just 1km away was an absolute blessing. The contrast couldn't have been more striking - despite being busier than Las Iguanas, the staff at Topolabamba welcomed us warmly and went above and beyond to accommodate our family group of 6 immediately, with no fuss or hesitation. This is what true hospitality looks like! The service was outstanding from start to finish. The staff was incredibly attentive to our children (ages 5 & 7), making them feel special with extra attention and ensuring they were comfortable. They brought the kids' meals promptly, understanding that hungry little ones can't wait too long! Food arrived surprisingly quickly despite the restaurant being busy, and everything was delicious and piping hot. Our server regularly checked if we needed anything and was particularly thoughtful about making sure our elderly family member was comfortable and had everything they needed. What truly sets Topolabamba apart is their genuine warmth and hospitality. After a long day of sightseeing and dealing with cold weather, finding such a welcoming restaurant was exactly what our family needed. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, and they demonstrated what true restaurant hospitality should be. The food quality matched the excellent service - fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. Everyone in our group, from the kids to grandparents, found something they loved. This place understands that great restaurants aren't just about the food - they're about creating a welcoming experience for all guests. When faced with the same situation as another restaurant, they chose kindness and accommodation over rigid rules. I attended this restaurant in Edinburgh after having such a good experience in the Glasgow one and had high hopes however I didn’t feel it lived up to expectations. We got seated straight away and decided what we wanted within 5 minutes but continued to sit and wait for a further 20 mins on a server coming to take our order, no one even asked if we wanted a drink. Once we did order the food arrived pretty quickly however a drink was accidentally spilled all over my partner and the table and no one came over to help until I had to ask a member of staff, there was no drink left and wasn’t asked if we needed or wanted another one, the table wasn’t cleaned properly, we wasn’t asked if we wanted to move and the restaurant was pretty empty. The food was good but I wasn’t happy with the fact a service charge was automatically added to the bill when I personally feel we didn’t receive a service at all especially with the long wait to be served and the way the spilt drink was delt with. After ordering 2 drinks and 1 being spilt everywhere and not receiving another one in its place we still have to pay for 2 drinks even tho 1 was consumed. I am extremely unhappy because I had such a good experience within the Glasgow store, I don’t think I will be dining here again.

Topolabamba was recommended by a friend, and it didn’t disappoint! The food was bursting with authentic Mexican flavors, and the lively atmosphere made it a great experience. The staff were friendly and attentive. Looking forward to trying the margaritas next time!

In Edinburgh for the first time and came here after having non existent service earlier in the night elsewhere. The food was quick , fresh and most important of all absolutely delishes. The staff and the atmosphere also could not be faulted. I'll be sure to call in anytime I'm back in the future and recommend to anyone from Ireland I know visiting!

Beware of cancellations and turn up on time . I booked a table and got stuck in traffic so called to say I was running a little late (10 mins after booked time ) and was told they had already cancelled my table and given it away.

We really enjoyed visiting for dinner - we booked a table which I would recommend as it was quite busy but the atmosphere was great!! The plates are designed to be small, but we actually didn't need as many as recommended on the menu! The spice levels are fairly high if you're sensitive to this but there are more mild options. Staff were all lovely and accommodating!

Have been here a few times and it is a good place for some Mexican street food! Some of it is a bit... pedestrian... on the spice side, but the staff are attentive!

Nice Mexican restaurant. The food came quickly, but by different waiters who were fussy about whether it was the right dishes we got. Also forgot several of the dishes we ordered Unfortunately, you can't get a real main menu, it all seems very street food The food seemed very prefabricated, especially the guacamole seemed canned. A shame

The atmosphere, the service and the food... everything is perfect! Had a wonderful dinner here. I was alone, actually you should be with more people to share and taste more dishes together. Cold tortilla and cold rice, only the meat was warmed up. The order was placed at 21:24, received at 21:31 and delivered at 21:50, so there is no possibility that it was the supplier's fault. Thanks “chefs”

Excellent food, great service, and the atmosphere is stunning. Honestly, just the decor is worth seeing. Servers are quick and the cooks might be quicker! My only warning is that the 2 peppers for spice level is HOT (if you're not otherwise into spicy food). That's a me problem and not the restaurants. Would gladly attend again - great tostadas and vegetarian options.

Have been in a few times now recently. Been a fairly decent experience. Can highly recommend the Chicken Tinga quesadillas! Other things tried are a hit or miss. Don't order anything with seafood, it's disappointing.

First visit for my wife and I tonight, with daughter and partner. First met Sam when ordering drinks, and thoroughly enjoyed recommendations and samples, and some banter !! Great selection of food, and between 4 of us we had a wide variety of smaller and larger dishes - fish, beef, pork, chorizo - all of which seemed pretty authentic and very tasty !! Met Steve and Winnie - both very cheery, friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the food and also some more authenticity with Mexican lager and Margheritas !! We sat outside as the weather was OK, and enjoyed some rare rays. Food and drinks were very good, and the staff were ‘the main ingredient’ - we’ll be back !! Peter Gardner. I recently ordered food from Topolabamba and unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We ordered chicken quesadillas and beef burritos, but what we got in return was a horrible case of food poisoning. Within a few hours of eating, we started experiencing severe symptoms: high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea. It was clear that something was seriously wrong with the food we received. We had to endure a very uncomfortable and distressing time due to the food from this place. I understand that mistakes can happen, but when it comes to food safety, there’s no room for error. This experience has completely shaken our trust in this restaurant, and I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it to anyone. I urge the management to seriously look into their food handling and preparation practices to ensure that no one else has to go through what we did.

We ate here on 6/27/24. Food was delicious! We particularly enjoyed the queso fundido, tostadas and street corn. Waitstaff was very friendly and helpful with food allergies. Drinks were great too. I highly recommend this restaurant .

Tasting menu experience thanks to our Itison voucher. Starter margarita or beer with authentic nachos and guacamole set the tone. We loved our choices but the habanero wings were my favourite. Only jalapeno poppers didn't quite hit the mark with us. Everything else was spot on. The churros with chocolate dip for dessert were a massive hit. Great selection of tequila and tequila-based cocktails as well as mexican beer on tap.

Ate here before seeing Taylor Swift at Murrayfield. The atmosphere was amazing, the food was so delicious and incredibly reasonably priced. Staff were warm, welcoming and friendly, I’d definitely come back! One of our party was gluten free and the menu was really fantastic, there wasn’t much that they couldn’t eat, it’s a great option for people with dietary restrictions.

As a Texan who eats Mexican food twice a week, great food, great service. Authentic real deal. Just need Mexican music in background, not rap or pop music.

Had a lovely dinner. Lovely setting and easy to find at a very convenient location. Found that the menu had a lot of options and food was yummy. However, we did find that the portion sizes were too small for the price.
