Bodega Leith in Edinburgh, City of

Their menu changed since our last visit, so we wanted to try a few different plates. All were excellent.

There's better options for mexican food on Leith walk. Really disappointing tacos, lacking flavour and not enough filling for the price (8-9 pounds for two small tacos). The snacks and sharing platters are better, but still not worth the money

The midweek deal is fantastic for getting you to choose a great variety of delicious dishes! We especially enjoyed the grill dishes and loved these new additions to the menu. Service is super friendly and attentive.

Fantastic restaurant! Great food & the service is top tier. We visited on the 19th and everyone working front of house was brilliant, attentive but not intrusive! Also whoever was cooking should also get a pat on the back as the food was delicious! Highly reccommend the Beef Short Rib!

The food was great but I'm not interested in going back. The service was perfunctory, until we had finished eating. When I booked online I was given an hour and a half table slot. Half an hour before this was up, we were told they'd need the table back in 10 minutes, right after we ordered more drinks. Our bill arrived before the drinks, and the waiter kept looking at us as if to hurry us away. There was no one waiting for a table so we didn't understand why, and it was a bit of an uncomfortable end to our meal.

Wow. Was recommended this place for dinner and ended up going last night. From hospitality experience we could tell they were deep in it, but the service was incredible, and the food was absolutely insanely tasty. We were recommended 6 dishes to share between 2 people and none of them disappointed. The star of the show was the pork belly, melted in my mouth and the flavour combinations were perfect. We got an extra dish for free because of the wait times but honestly no complaints, because it was so worth the wait. HIGHLY recommend this place, but definitely book in advance. What a great team. Thanks for everything!

Service was really good, all the staff were super lovely and explained everything really well. Really nice space as well, the decors fun. The food was a bit meh. All sounded really good on the menu but was a bit lacklustre when it came out. The chilaquiles were just nachos, not very special. The grilled pea salad was pretty sad, seemed like microwaved peas with some onions and herbs in a bowl. We had the house made sodas, the guava and lime one tasted like just soda water with a squeeze of lime. Overall it was fine and the staff were lovely but can’t really recommend the food.

Great service and wonderful food. Neither of these are ever in doubt when you visit Bodega. The beef shortrib was particularly delicious, and the margaritas are fab too. Would highly recommend.

Great small plates and fun cocktails. Maybe a little on the pricey side, but within expectations. Vegetarian options available. Vibes on a Friday night are fun!

Fabulous to all, really great food & ambience (great new menu) but shame again about the coffee - machine always broken when I go in and even then would they do decaf? This could seriously improve things guys.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. We had the £25pp deal and each thing was delicious! Especially recommend the bodega wings and potato skewers. We also had two drinks each and be warned, they are strong: I was waffling on en route home.

Food was really good. Only complaint is that we ordered a post meal drink that was supposed to come with some chocolate, it got delivered with a shot of green/herby liquid instead, obviously very different, and when we mentioned it the staff member just said “oh yeah I forgot to say we ran out of chocolate” and walked off. Might have been good to offer something else, the green liquid definitely didn’t go well with what we ordered.

The venue is really cool and the service was great start to finish however my partner and I shared some food and it made both of us sick during the night. We think something was not cooked properly or had gone off and it made us both ill.

Great food and atmosphere. Small plates give you the ability to try a lot of different options. My wife and I have dietary restrictions, gluten free and vegan. The restaurant is gluten free with plenty of vegan options. We will be going back when we visit Edinburgh again.

Overall excellent, we were a table of six, room noisy which meant we could not all chat easily together. Only suggestion us to think about sound absorption measures.

Booked for an end of chemotherapy celebration, we were given the best table by window (I love to people watch) the food was excellent, beautifully cooked and perfect size portions for sharing, taste buds were very happy, service just brilliant, we were given free nachos and half price cava 😍(thank the goddess for cava, most places just do prosseco which is rank) as part of our celebration, which was totally unexpected and a lovely gesture, we will definitely be back, outstanding 🤌

Bodega was a very charming little restaurant in Edinburgh by Leith. The street is lined with many nice restaurants. I liked the paced service as they brought out our small plates finished off by the finale which were the butternut squash tacos. I really enjoyed the nachos with what I believe is cilantro cream. The cauliflower was underwhelming as a slab of cauliflower topped with aioli and breadcrumbs. I would not get this again. The mushroom bean toastada with chimichurri was quite fresh and flavorful. The sweet potatoes topped with cilantro, creama and pecans were delightful. I especially enjoyed the virgin mango tango which was a mix of pineapple, lime, mango and coconut crème. My friend got the fish tacos which she said were the best she’s ever had.

Fantastic modern Mexican food. All small plates so you can get a taste of many different things. We were bowled over by the tastes...jalapeño jam! Very smart food combinations and great staff. We will be coming back. As a coeliac it's great to eat somewhere where everything is an option and as this is 100% gluten free nothing was off limit.

I love Bodega. One of my favourites in Edinburgh. Shame they’ve replaced the wings with a new recipe. They are still good - just not incredible now. Miss a couple of the old favourites but the new stuff is very good.

Brilliant experience at Bodega as always! The staff were very friendly, made great suggestions and the food was incredible. 100% gluten free and great for other allergies namely nut allergies as only one thing on the menu had any and these were then substituted out. Will definitely be back 😀

Food is mostly delicious but me and my friend both going the Baka fish tacos to have little flavour which was surprising because everything else was yummy! Will return though and try more dishes

We have such a great meal. The waitress was so lovely, the food was amazing, we had the 4 courses and it was actually a little too much food, the small plates are deceiving! I love the decor too!

We ordered three snacks and a number of sharing plates. Annie the very attentive GM gave incredible service. We ordered two alcohol free cocktails (the virgin frozen margarita was absolutely perfect and I’m still thinking about it days later). The beef short rib, hen of the woods taco, pork, and the skewered potato’s were our favourites along with the garden pae salad. We came close to opening hours and were given a great window seat to people watch, even when quiet there is a relaxed but comfortable atmosphere. We vibed with the playlist too. Thanks Bodega!

Some of the best food I had while I was in Edinburgh. Definitely worth the visit! If you like meat, the short rib is a MUST.

Nice Mexican taco restaurant on Leith Walk. Best to have a reservation as it’s not the biggest and can get busy. Very tasty food and a good mix of tacos, snacks and grill plates. Food was very tasty when we visited and the highlights were the pork and beef brisket grill plates which were both excellent. Service was very friendly and efficient. Will visit again for a try of their £25 per person fixe menu which looks good value.

We’ve come for dinner many times in the last 12 months, used to love the old menu. The new one is very disappointing, no more guacamole, beef tacos is just watery minced beef without any flavor or spices decorated with gherkins on top. Barbecue pork is very dry, had to ask for extra sauce to make it edible. Chicken tacos were nice. Our waitress was lovely, obviously not her fault the food is so different now.

I could have written Mr Scott's review myself (posted 1 month ago). I used to love this place and would recommend to everyone. However, the new menu is very disappointing. Very small, expensive portions with some of the old favourites now missing. The margarita's are good but like everything else they are tiny for the price. I brought my husband (after raving about it for so long) just after the new menu was introduced and it was all very underwhelming. Unfortunately, I also persuaded a few friends to buy some vouchers for here before I knew about the new menu. Why change a good thing. It has definitely lost its appeal and I definitely won't be back. High price tag for what is essentially street food.

The staff could use some training on etiquette as our server seemed like she would rather be home than talk to us The food is good, lacking flavour and spice amidst some of the dishes but ultimately regardless of the food, I wouldn't go back based on the service alone. Wasn't that busy, maybe we just got our server on a bad day but it threw all 6 of us off and we were happy to pay and leave

Came as a group of 4. Had a couple pitchers of margaritas which were lovely, especially the spicy ones. Food was delicious. Yes the portions are small but you can tell they are made with good quality ingredients and the flavours are really great. Service was also good.

Dreadful food. Overcooked and soggy burnt peppers, chicken covered in a disgusting batter was non existent and the taco on which it was served tasted off.

Margaritas are great , staff are very good, food is very tasty and good quality. Menu is just a bit limited , portions are pretty small especially for a mexican and most of the dishes are not great for sharing.

We wandered in after a travel day and this place was fabulous. I had the wings (my favorite), the pea salad, the short rib and the buffalo chicken taco. I liked everything although the buffalo chicken taco I would skip for a 2nd order of wings. The service was also great and I really enjoyed the raspberry margaritas. It’s not traditional Mexican food, it’s more interesting with their own twist. Definitely recommend.

What an amazing little gem on Leith Walk! Classy, young, hip, modern vibes with a hint of Cuban nostalgia. Unique shareable Tapas-style food Latin inspired plates. The ONE thing that could make the atmosphere a PERFECT 10 is some well-placed art, flowers (maybe a dried flower installation?) or any kind of small decoration in between the barely noticeable small wall candles. It looks like an abandoned Cuban building. I understand the desire for the minimal effect but it to me it looks unfinished. I will be recommending this restaurant to anyone I know who comes to Edinburgh. You can’t go wrong with what you order… everything is so fresh and delicious. My favorites were the frittatas and sloppy Joe tacos! Presentation of food was nice too. Classy, young, hip, fun vibes.

I absolutely adored this place, best tacos in town and one of the best Mexicans in Edinburgh. But they’ve lost their niche with their new menu. The tacos are now limited and they are absolutely tiny and using gluten free tacos. Such a shame to have lost their brilliant niche. Sadly won’t be going back again.

I visited today with my partner for some dinner. Throughout the visit the staff was super attentive and very friendly. The food had good flavour however they are served in very small, bite-size portions and for the size can be quite expensive as you need to have multiple main dishes for one person. Other than the price to portion size ratio I would say it is a must visit spot in Edinburgh as long as you are willing to spend a bit more money than expected.

I’ve been here several times and it’s always been great. Really fun place to come in a group because of the tapas style dishes which are ideal for sharing, and the jugs of margarita are amazing. Plenty of vegan options which is appreciated, and they always go down well with the meat eaters too. Great atmosphere, decor and super friendly service.

We visited Bodega on a weekend trip to Edinburgh. The food was delicious, fresh and the portion size was what you would expect for small plate menu! The Bodega team were super friendly & took their time to explain the menu & make suggestions. Excellent selection of Margaritas too.

I've been visiting Bodega since it first opened in a tiny space on Elm Row. I loved it in those early years, and even more the second premises that opened in Tollcross. I've always found the current location to be lacking in character, and although the food has always been great, the lack of menu variation was disappointing. So I was excited about trying the new menu and visited there last Saturday evening. The new menu was tasty! But I was pretty disapppointed by the new size of the tacos. These seem to be about half the size they were previously, and much smaller than what you would expect to get at any other Mexican street food restaurant. Sad to say but I probably won't be returning to Bodega.

Would give it a 4.5 if I could! Only reason it's not a full five is it is pretty pricey when the bill comes. However, the food was great, and it's a very nice atmosphere. Also, as we're visiting from Canada, our lovely waitress (blonde lady, can't recall her name), once realizing we were tourists, gave us a list of recommendations that was greatly appreciated!

Margaritas nice. Tried the new menu with items from the grill such as the Churassco lamb, chicken and the hispi cabbage, very tasty but small portions. Same with the tacos. Not small portions in the sense you leave hungry, just it leaves you wanting more. All over too quickly. Atmosphere lacking, layout doesn’t lend itself to a good ambiance.

We’ve eaten here many times over the years - tonight being the launch night of their new “Bodega 2.0” menu. We ate: pimento cheese fritters, Korean wings, buffalo chicken and roasted cauliflower tacos, octopus, lamb and beef short rib skewers, and a braised pork neck larger plate. The latter dishes were of their new charcoal grill (a superb addition it would seem!). The quality of every single dish was just excellent. One of those “I don’t want this to end” meals! Really lovely and friendly / helpful service from our waitress too. £67 for all of that + a couple of pints of local IPA - not bad at all. We’ll definitely be back.

Second time going to Bodega. The food was nice and the service was quick with lovely staff. We shared between four which was a good way to try a lot of the menu. The Korean chicken wings were absolutely delicious. My favourite tacos were either the beef or the pork belly but I also tried the baja fish ones.

Good service, the food came on time. Beef barbacoa was delicious. Tiger prawn was crunchy and tasty. I would prefer tiger prawn with baja fish sauce and vice versa but this is just a personal preference. Reasonable prices and had a great time.

I really like Bodega and would go here more often but that would require booking in advance. They do take walk ins but even trying this midweek is a big risk. This tempting taco oasis is popular not just because of its location high up Leith Walk, great for pre theatre and cinema meals, but because the food is great. This is boutique Mexican rather than cheap and cheerful street food. It's date worthy tacos with a menu that has starters, sides and dessert. Who can resist churros? Tip: Bodega is a good place for solo eaters, with table service and the right sort of seats. The portions are not giant and you're encouraged to order two pairs of tacos per person. I find it works with a starter, double main and dessert about perfect. [Jan 24 update] Took advantage of a special offer, booked (booking still recommended) and enjoyed some more fantastic food. I could have eaten twice as much and still wanted more. Bodega therefore remains on my "I'm feeling rich enough to treat myself" list but what a treat it is!

Nice space but sadly the food was weirdly tasteless. I am gluten free so appreciate the real effort to accommodate, but even as a coeliac I expect flavour. The aubergine tempura was limp and watery. The prawns were equally drab and unseasoned. Again, just utterly tasteless. Even the wraps were unseasoned. Not cheap for what it is. Sorry but found it deeply uninspiring.

We really enjoyed the ceviche. It was really, really good, but the portion size was too small. Could it be that we, in the USA, are just so accustomed to larger portions? I don’t know, but it was so good, it just wasn’t enough. I was unexpectedly surprised that their Tommy Margarita was really good too, but again, way, way too small. It’s like they tease you with what was probably a 4 oz drink, but yes, I enjoyed it- I just wanted a larger portion. The salsa was nice & spicy, different but nice. The tacos could have been warmer but they were good. Try them. You won’t be disappointed, (oh, except for the portion size, way too small from what we are used to).
