Bodega Leith in Edinburgh, City of

I visited today with my partner for some dinner. Throughout the visit the staff was super attentive and very friendly. The food had good flavour however they are served in very small, bite-size portions and for the size can be quite expensive as you need to have multiple main dishes for one person. Other than the price to portion size ratio I would say it is a must visit spot in Edinburgh as long as you are willing to spend a bit more money than expected.

I’ve been here several times and it’s always been great. Really fun place to come in a group because of the tapas style dishes which are ideal for sharing, and the jugs of margarita are amazing. Plenty of vegan options which is appreciated, and they always go down well with the meat eaters too. Great atmosphere, decor and super friendly service.

Great food, brilliant service and wonderful atmosphere make Bodega a great night out... oh and the cocktails are fantastic too!

We visited Bodega on a weekend trip to Edinburgh. The food was delicious, fresh and the portion size was what you would expect for small plate menu! The Bodega team were super friendly & took their time to explain the menu & make suggestions. Excellent selection of Margaritas too.

I've been visiting Bodega since it first opened in a tiny space on Elm Row. I loved it in those early years, and even more the second premises that opened in Tollcross. I've always found the current location to be lacking in character, and although the food has always been great, the lack of menu variation was disappointing. So I was excited about trying the new menu and visited there last Saturday evening. The new menu was tasty! But I was pretty disapppointed by the new size of the tacos. These seem to be about half the size they were previously, and much smaller than what you would expect to get at any other Mexican street food restaurant. Sad to say but I probably won't be returning to Bodega.

Would give it a 4.5 if I could! Only reason it's not a full five is it is pretty pricey when the bill comes. However, the food was great, and it's a very nice atmosphere. Also, as we're visiting from Canada, our lovely waitress (blonde lady, can't recall her name), once realizing we were tourists, gave us a list of recommendations that was greatly appreciated!

Margaritas nice. Tried the new menu with items from the grill such as the Churassco lamb, chicken and the hispi cabbage, very tasty but small portions. Same with the tacos. Not small portions in the sense you leave hungry, just it leaves you wanting more. All over too quickly. Atmosphere lacking, layout doesn’t lend itself to a good ambiance.

We’ve eaten here many times over the years - tonight being the launch night of their new “Bodega 2.0” menu. We ate: pimento cheese fritters, Korean wings, buffalo chicken and roasted cauliflower tacos, octopus, lamb and beef short rib skewers, and a braised pork neck larger plate. The latter dishes were of their new charcoal grill (a superb addition it would seem!). The quality of every single dish was just excellent. One of those “I don’t want this to end” meals! Really lovely and friendly / helpful service from our waitress too. £67 for all of that + a couple of pints of local IPA - not bad at all. We’ll definitely be back.

Please can you correctly advertise when you're closed down, showed up here for dinner on a Tuesday night to an empty building an no warnings on the website or google

Second time going to Bodega. The food was nice and the service was quick with lovely staff. We shared between four which was a good way to try a lot of the menu. The Korean chicken wings were absolutely delicious. My favourite tacos were either the beef or the pork belly but I also tried the baja fish ones.

Good service, the food came on time. Beef barbacoa was delicious. Tiger prawn was crunchy and tasty. I would prefer tiger prawn with baja fish sauce and vice versa but this is just a personal preference. Reasonable prices and had a great time.

I really like Bodega and would go here more often but that would require booking in advance. They do take walk ins but even trying this midweek is a big risk. This tempting taco oasis is popular not just because of its location high up Leith Walk, great for pre theatre and cinema meals, but because the food is great. This is boutique Mexican rather than cheap and cheerful street food. It's date worthy tacos with a menu that has starters, sides and dessert. Who can resist churros? Tip: Bodega is a good place for solo eaters, with table service and the right sort of seats. The portions are not giant and you're encouraged to order two pairs of tacos per person. I find it works with a starter, double main and dessert about perfect. [Jan 24 update] Took advantage of a special offer, booked (booking still recommended) and enjoyed some more fantastic food. I could have eaten twice as much and still wanted more. Bodega therefore remains on my "I'm feeling rich enough to treat myself" list but what a treat it is!

Nice space but sadly the food was weirdly tasteless. I am gluten free so appreciate the real effort to accommodate, but even as a coeliac I expect flavour. The aubergine tempura was limp and watery. The prawns were equally drab and unseasoned. Again, just utterly tasteless. Even the wraps were unseasoned. Not cheap for what it is. Sorry but found it deeply uninspiring.

We really enjoyed the ceviche. It was really, really good, but the portion size was too small. Could it be that we, in the USA, are just so accustomed to larger portions? I don’t know, but it was so good, it just wasn’t enough. I was unexpectedly surprised that their Tommy Margarita was really good too, but again, way, way too small. It’s like they tease you with what was probably a 4 oz drink, but yes, I enjoyed it- I just wanted a larger portion. The salsa was nice & spicy, different but nice. The tacos could have been warmer but they were good. Try them. You won’t be disappointed, (oh, except for the portion size, way too small from what we are used to).

Came here after seeing the reviews and it didn't disappoint. The food was gorgeous, excellent service and great atmosphere. We had tacos, chicken wings, beans, corn and potatoes, and everything was extremely tasty Totally recommend.

Eventho this place is quite empty in the afternoon, they serve good tacos and the atmosphere is playful and chic. The waiters and waitress are attentive and friendly too.

Excellent variety of tacos and sides, we ordered planty to share and everything tasty, fish tacos in particular. Reasonable price and very friendly service. The majority of menu is gluten-free. Staff very clued up on cross contamination. I'm coeliac, great to be able to share food with everyone.

Food was absolutely brilliant, we had 3 sets of tacos and two sides between two. Highly recommend the beef tacos and the tempura scallions! The mezcal margarita was incredible. Service was very friendly but I would recommend replacing the small round tables for the similar 2 seat square tables as we asked for side plates as we were sharing and were told no as our table was too small.

Corn = banging. Tacos = banging. Service = banging. Potatoes = banging. Why are you still reading? Book a table already.

Return trip to bodega, the first being 3 years ago in the height of COVID. The experience back then was superb. Great service and the tacos were devine, so on a return trip to Edinburgh I couldn't wait to go back. How disappointed I was. Tacos were sub par, flavourless and overcooked. Probably because the staff couldn't wait to make us leave. Arrived at 9pm, restaurant is listed as open until 11pm on Google but they were turning customers away at the door at 9.30pm. Very rushed atmosphere. No offer of drinks before our order being taken. As soon as out food arrived the staff were stacking chairs on tables. Was in and out within an hour. Couldn't have felt less welcome. Obnoxious clientele as well sat next to us. Can't be helped. Overall really disappointing return trip

Not particularly good Mexican food and a bit expensive considering ultimately what you're getting is street tacos. There were a couple good bites, the smoked corn and the salsa given at the table, but nothing I'd recommend going to the restaurant for. Tried a margarita as well -- def would skip drinks there. There are better places in town if you want Mexican food. Nice enough staff though.

The best tacos I’ve ever had and great margaritas too! It has lovely scandi decor and the staff are friendly and laid back but also very on it with the service. Will be back next time I’m in Edinburgh!

Really good food, not the most authentic Mexican food but good quality and tasty.

Booked table over phone for 9pm on a Wednesday night, wanted earlier but person taking booking was insistent this was the earliest available. Turned up 10-15 mins late (no bad given trying to park on Leith Walk during the festival and the Hibs/Villa game) only to be told the kitchen closed at 9pm, which was news to us. Moreover, as she told us this we gazed across the third of the restaurant that was empty; there had been tables available earlier after all.

Just around the corner from where I live so can't believe this was my first visit! Food is amazing and staff great! BYO which is fab as only £5 corkage for a bottle of prosecco. Will definitely be back.

Tried several different tacos and they were uniformly excellent. My problem was getting past the tacos: -- Guacamole was freshly made, which was great to see but was so citrusy as to overpower the avocado -- Chips served with guacamole were supermarket-quality. -- Pitcher of margaritas felt like more ice than drink. It barely made four small drinks. Room is small, tight, modern. No kitschy nonsense.

I had 2 starters, 1 side and 3 Tacos. Food was well made, a couple of things were amazing, a couple were bland, but overall pleasant, well made modern take on mostly Mexican stuff. I luv how the place looks, surprisingly cosy seating, staff were really nice, drinks were on point and was also surprised to know they had 4 good beers on tap. I think price was not off the mark as well though definitely not cheap. My only put off was what I understand to be lack of adequate ventilation / extraction fans. Its the type of place you come off smelling of food (mostly of fried stuff) and thats something I strongly dislike. I would come back though and easily recommend.

Had the pardon peppers, Korean chicken wings, three varieties of Tacos (beef, pork belly and shrimp). Everything was excellent, but the highlight for sure were the Korean Wings! Quick and efficient service too.

Absolutely amazing place, great food and service, will definitely be back! Lots of options for people with dietary requirements as well.

Lovely venue and the food was tasty. The Korean chicken wings were particularly good. There is BYOB policy but did not realise they sold drinks as well, this is usually not the case at other establishments. One thing I found strange was that I was singled out from my table and asked to show my ID before I able to sit down, I am 33. It might be because I was the person carrying the BYOB wine but I have not experienced that in a restaurant in Edinburgh before. I would imagine that even people under the age of 25 are allowed to sit in restaurants? Overall it was a pleasant enough evening but that made me feel mildly unwelcome and left our table questioning what the intention behind the request was.

Expectations were blown away by the food at Bodega Leith! The Korean wings? Delicious and you must order them! Make sure you sprinkle the lime as that brings out the flavor even more. We loved every taco we had minus the pork belly, which was just okay. The tempura and the Baja fish were standouts, and even the buffalo sesame was a fun surprise. We also ordered a side of corn, and that was equally delicious. The chips are gluten free, and their taste was unexpected given how refreshing the tacos were. The final thing you have to make sure to order is the churros. If you are a fan of churros, they really knock this out of the park. They are made fresh to order, and served in a piping hot bowl that warms the soul. Definitely worth a trip if you’re in Edinburgh.

Staff superb and food fantastic, will certainly be back

Food was delicious and tasted home-made in the best way possible! Having been recently diagnosed with coeliac disease, I haven’t had that many great eating out experiences since, but this place was wonderful - almost everything on the menu is gluten free and they have a dedicated gluten free area in the kitchen. They also adapted my dishes to dairy free! They explained everything and were super lovely. Recommend for coeliacs/gluten intolerant people and also everyone else - it’s VERY tasty!

Came here for the gluten free options, which were very good. Most food was tasty, however portions were small for the price and the sesame chicken tacos were way too salty. Place felt quite pretentious. Service was pretty awful (Saturday night) - whipped plates away both after starters and mains before we were finished. I was actually still eating a mouthful and made it clear to wait after the main but the server carried on clearing! Ordered a second pitcher from the bar during the main as no one came over. Plonked unceremoniously down that time, no fresh glasses with salted rims so not as enjoyable at all. Vibe that staff didn't care which just doesn't match the prices being charged!

Book ahead as this place is often busy, and for good reason. It’s stylish and offers great tacos, plus a cocktail menu including flavoured and frozen margaritas. The black bean dip as a starter was yummy and we enjoyed all the tacos we selected. Choices included a mix of traditional Mexican and more unusual combos, like a special which had kimchi and yuzu. We’ve eaten here as a group and as pairs and it works well for both, though I’d say I enjoyed it more as a smaller group so everyone could share plates, which Bodega lends itself well to. Would be a good spot for a date night or special occasion as it feels less informal than most other restaurants in the area.

Highly recommended! Nice food, reasonable price, beautiful service and very cozy sitting. I have been here several times and never be disappointed by any of the above elements. This definitely also be a good place for having good drinks and conversation with any types of company.

The restaurant represents the trend of gentrification. Everything here is ultra hipster. Not a comfortable space to be in. On the food and drink: I've ate in mexican restaurants(like Pancho Villa's when it used to exist) and I do not feel this truly represents Mexican food at its best. In fact the food did not really represent Mexican cuisine at all but some European hipster idea of it. Portions were small and we left feeling hungry. 'large' glasses of wine were small like a single measure of straight whisky. The price: For the quality and size of the food the price was extortionate but probably goes along with the hipster gentrifying vibes of the place. The only positive I can give is that the staff were all friendly and helpful. Response from the owner a year ago Thanks Rory, sounds like Toby Carvery might be more your thing. My Response: Sounds like elitism and classism might be more your thing. Toby Carvery is cheap and cheerful and not pretentious or encouraging gentrification unlike Bodega.

This was our first time in Bodega but will repeat! I cannot take out of my mind those sweet and crunchy chicken wings and the tempura prawn tacos, so so tasty. I was not a massive fan of the buffalo chicken sesame tacos as the sauce was bitter, but the beef BBQ were also nice. We had churros for dessert, the portion was tight for sharing, but still tasty.

Delicious food for veggies and meat eaters. Really good cocktails. Veering towards expensive but worth it.

Food is lovely. Nice experience. If you're really hungry or after a full meal. I suggest maybe going somewhere else as the portions aren't huge and quite pricey for what you get. It's worth trying though as the tacos are very tasty

Great Mexican Tortillas and gorgeous Margarita's

I must say that the service I received was top-notch, and I would give it a perfect score of 10. The food was also excellent, with a unique take on Mexican cuisine that showcased the innovative style of the restaurant. However, if you are looking for an authentic Mexican taste, this may not be the best option for you. Nonetheless, I would still rate the food a 9.5 out of 10, as it was truly amazing. While the food and service were outstanding, I must admit that the price was a bit steep, and I would rate it a 5 out of 10. In fact, I believe that it was overpriced by 20%, even considering inflation. I believe that if the prices were slightly more affordable, it would be a perfect place for a delightful dining experience in Leith. For this reason, I would give it 4 stars instead of 5. On the bright side, the cocktails served at the restaurant were delightful, and I would say they were on par with the high standard of quality you can expect in Edinburgh, albeit at a similar price point.

Amazing place. The concept is simple - 2 taco dishes each (4 tacos in total), which we chose to share - but the food is superb. I thought some off the sides sounded strange - tempura spring onions, for example - but they are magnificent. The fried potatoes are an absolute must have! The staff are exceptionally friendly and very knowledgeable about the food. I have coeliac disease so this place is heaven for me. My partner, who does not have coeliac disease, raves above Bodega and would also give it 5 stars, so it's brilliant if you have dietary requirements and brilliant if you don't!

Edinburgh Hidden Gem in Leith. Great choice of tacos in a relaxed atmosphere. I have visited this venue a couple of times and hasn’t failed in once. What a team 👍. Really enjoyed seeing the front of house staff and the kitchen staff interacting in such a busy service. The Margaritas were tasty. I still get confused with the sign on the toilet door. 😂

I am local to Leith, I have lived here for 4 years. I have been to Mexico for months at the time. I used to cook Mexican food next to a Mexican chef in a restaurant. This is rubbish. Absolutely no taste whatsoever in all the tacos. I make better tacos at home. The only vaguely Mexican thing was the tacos that actually tasted like maize. HOWEVER, they came cold and bearly toasted. Maybe invest in a tortillera. We paid 47 quid for 4 tacos, 1 drink and 1 beer. I left hungry and unsatisfied. For this price I assure you there are better restaurants 5 min away. I wanted to try this because of the hype around it. Service was OK, nothing special. But the food is Tasteless, unoriginal, boring and defenetly not Mexican.

Great food. Lots to choose from and never disappoints. Service is always excellent. Mescal margaritas are a must but there are many other options to enjoy. Would highly recommend Bodega.

Beautiful minimalist room. Tacos were everything I needed, great flavour and we'll atuffed. And good sides. Enough veggie options too. Friendly staff, with quick service. And the guac was top notch.

Food was amazing, I particularly enjoyed the sweet potato tacos. Price isn't bad at all, portion size was large enough but you won't be over-full (room for dessert!) There was a deal of 4 sets of tacos for £25, according to friends the choice of margarita cocktails were banging.

Great atmosphere and relaxed but efficient service. Everything tasted wonderful, the perfect place to mix and share. Shame we forgot to have Margaritas! We will return 😊great value.

Had a booking for some laid back dining at Bodega. First timers, and we had a great time. The service was spot on, and the food was excellent - very tasty and plenty of variety. The Korean chicken wings were very morish and I could easily have had a few more portions. All the dips were great, especially the guacamole and the black bean dip. No hesitation in recommending - we'll be back.

I went here as vegetarian with my friend and was surprised by how many options there were for us. We were quite excited. We ordered a lot. Sadly every single taco we had was genuinely awful and we are really not picky at all. The cauliflower taco was so burnt that i was so nauseous after a single bite. We could not get ourselves to take another bite of it. I have never given a google rating before but i really want to save everyone the money. It’s so overpriced and rated so highly for absolutely no reason. No flavor, just presentation. Save yourself the visit. The waiter was nice but the food was horrendous. I don’t say this lightly. Save. Your. Money. I would give it a zero if i could.

We booked an early dinner and had prawn and beef tacos, padron peppers , guacamole and potato’s, The spicy margaritas were great but standout dish was beef tacos

Situated in leith walk, this restaurant is a cool place to hangout with the tasty tacos. Still what I like the most is the Korean chicken wings that my Korean friend find it is quite authentically impressive.( too starving to take a picture) The restaurant can be noisy for dinner so please prepare for active listening skills. 🙂

Great Mexican taco's...fish and prawn ones especially...BYOB offer is even better as beers/Margarita whilst authentic are bit on expensive side. Quality food though.

Booked a table here for the evening of Wednesday 9th November, so glad we did! We received a warm welcome from a lovely lady who helped us immensely with our food choices. My wife has gluten, dairy, and egg free diet, but nothing was too much trouble and the recommendations made were perfect! We both had some dicious tacos with really interesting fillings, dips, vegetables and homemade potatoes, with no alcoholic cocktails, ans everything oozed colourful fesh, and tasted delicious!yhe service was excellent bynoth the lady and your man looking after us and we would definitely recommend.

We tasted 4 different tacos and they were excellent. Surprising combinations that we really enjoyed. It did take a long time for the tacos to come, but they communicated that it would take a bit longer than expected shortly after we were seated and offered a starter on the house to compensate for the wait. The waiters were very kind and the atmosphere is buzzing!
