Top Catch Fish & Chips Shirley in Southampton

As far as Chippys go - this is one of the best I’ve tried, the chips were great, the saveloy perfect, I really enjoyed the battered halloumi too, I think my personal favourite was the curry sauce, such a lovely meal I will definitely be back!

Just burnt. Everything was literally burnt. Fish was dark brown and tough as old boots, chips were also overcooked, tasted like burnt oil and dry as a nuns privates. Won’t be going back. Leave the fish and chip shops to locals.

My first fish and chips in England. The owners are (I believe) a married couple and they're so friendly! We chatted for about 15 while they cooked everything to order. Giant piece of cod and the equivalent of like, three potatoes in fries. Both were excellent. Perfect breading on the fish. I'm so glad I found this place. Thanks for making my first dinner in the UK memorable!

This is a great tasting fish and chips shop. Service is awesome. I will not go anywhere else as this tasty fish and chips are awesome.

Wasn't happy with staff member as a young blone girl was Constantly looking at my African bf who is 58 don't look older then his 30s. But anyways even went to the bk to but hip hop on. She was Seriously trying to get his attention. He felt uncomfortable when we left. Just should be doing her job not trying to show off with big men. 🙄 the chips were old. The fish was amazing. We ordered Regul. But the lady with drown hair was really nice. And even Gave us large. She probably felt uncomfortable and know what her co working was doing.

The delivery time got set back several times, eventually arriving 25 minutes later than then I'd ordered. The Pie was horrible, the pasty was dried out and tough, the gravy inside was dried out and the meat was tough as old boots. Stale.....

I'd been hunting for a local chippy after my last ones closed. I stumbled upon Top Catch up the high street randomly after moving to Shirley. The staff are always lovely and the food is so good! I usually have large cod and regular/small chips. The chips are hot, fluffy and cooked to just the right amount of crispness. Even a small is a very generous portion. The large cod is HUGE and fried to perfection. Amazing batter, crisp light and delicious. Even the ketchup pots are really tasty and decent sized. Nice and cozy to sit in and eat too so I don't usually get takeaway, but may at some point if later at night.

Not normally one to moan as I thought this is one of the best but food was burnt and just really disappointing this evening!

Top Catch Fish & Chips Shirley is a fantastic place for delicious fish and chips at a very reasonable price! The shop offers a comfortable dine-in facility with tables and chairs, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, providing excellent service. You can’t go wrong with this chippy! Five stars are not enough for the truly wonderful people working there, the friendliest bunch you’ll ever meet! Fish is always perfectly cooked, batter light and tasty. Chips non-greasy. And the homemade mushy peas are to die for!!

Driving past tonight after my shift I noticed saver menu all for 99p I had fish cake chips and curry sauce all 99p each absolute bargain big fat fluffy fish cake crispy outside cooked fresh great size portion of chips and original chips shop curry sauce I’m full to the brim great customer service salt of the earth guy serving definitely go back also great bargain for kids being off school

One thing I hate eating is warmed up chips I paid 480 for a large bag of chips they where not freshly cooked they tasted horrible had to threw them away guess I went at the wrong time hate hate cooked again chips disgusting

WOW!!! AMAZING.. I've got to say that I've just had the best fishcake I've ever had. This has to be homemade!!! - not the frozen types you normally get. Soooooooo nice. The chips were freshly cooked to order so happy to wait the 'less than 5 mins' for a perfect meal. Our office staff order from here all the time, I can see why.. Fully recommend and will definitely be returning. Just sheer quality.

The food was really expensive for what it was and it didn’t taste great. The mushy peas tasted like eggs and the curry sauce was gelatinous.

Nice friendly staff. I ordered a large cod n chips for lunch. By the time I arrived back home 10 minutes later, the food was still hot. 5 minutes in the oven on a plate, which I got ready before I left home, my luch was perfect. The fish was covered in a thin chrispy coating of batter and cooked to perfection. The chips were cooked thoroughly, and chrispy, not soggy like some fish shops, i could mention, but then I never had vinegar added. What I liked apart from the taste and the perfectly cooked chrispy chips is that they keep the fish and chips separate when wrapping them. They use recycled materials to make cardboard boxes. Who likes their fish stuck to their chips because I don't! Their prices are in accordance with other fish n chip shops in the area. I will definitely visit this shop for fish n chips again if I'm in the area.

I had visited some famous chippy shops, where the fish could be done perfectly but the chips were rock hard - It’s not easy to find a place that does well in both and this restaurant nails it. The cod was beautifully crisp, sweet and flaky. The chips were crispy on the outside as well, yet fluffy on the inside. It’s just delicious when dipped in the tartare sauce. The price was reasonable, and the regular cod + chips was just the right portion for a hungry me.

I’ve been coming to this chippy for years. Consequently, I can offer a longitudinal review. Without exception, I’ve always had a good meal from this chippy. The chips are good. The fish is always fresh tasting and the battered sausage is a guilty little pleasure. Don’t forget the mushy peas and curry sauce. The staff are friendly and warm. The owner is a really nice bloke and clearly takes pride with his food. Strongly recommended.

Best fish and chips we've had in a very long time cod was cook very well and chips bloody lovely always get the curry sauce I don't have a bad word about top catch and chips shop that's my opinion every one experience is different but must just moan about silly things

Excellent quality fish and chips. I just had a mini cod and chips on Tuesday 26 Nov for £5.00. The handsome young chef with a history degree did a great job. His assistant was also very good indeed. 🤗👏👏👏

Food was to quality and arrived super fast, I would go as far as saying best Fish and Chip shop in Southampton, only downside is they don’t appear to deliver to the east side of town so have to wait to visit family to enjoy the place.

This has become our go to chippy over the last few months. Lovely flakes of skin on line caught haddock in light crispy batter. Can get cheaper locally but nowhere near as nice. What tops it for me is that I can get batter scraps. The availability of these little pieces of crispy heaven makes a fish supper complete for me but are surprisingly tricky to get down here in the South In summary, lovely food, friendly staff, spotless premises, fairly priced and fabulous scraps. Really friendly and helpful, enjoyed the food a lot, we had fish and chips with a saveloy, mushy peas. Homemade tartare sauce which was great! A little bit over battered with the fish and not the thickest of cod I’ve had. But for the price, I can’t complain. The batter was crispy and fresh as well. I would happily come back and eat here again.

A proper good fish and chip shop! Light, tasty, crispy batter on the fish, fluffy chips, DELICIOUS mushy peas and the homemade tartare sauce is the best I've ever had. The service was really friendly and welcoming. I only wish I had a bigger stomach because the meal was so tasty

Really lovely chippy. Friendly service and great food. We had £5 Cod and chips and it was more than enough. Customers and staff knew eachother by name and it felt like a proper part of the. community.

I go here regularly every week & the food, service & general atmosphere doesn't change!! 100% every time. I can't fault it. Even when they are extremely busy they always greet you with a smile & the food standard is still v. high.... Well recommend for any small or large groups too as there is plenty of space inside but also outside tables when this sun is shinning!! Enjoy!

Usually I’d say this was great chip shop as the food is good, it’s always clean and tidy and I can’t fault the service.., but today I bought the lunchtime special of cod and chips for £5.. which unfortunately was basically a slice of cod a bit bigger than a fish finger with a handful of chips. No where near worth the £5 it cost and especially when you consider the chip portion given was the same size as the 99p portion they do at lunchtime too. Basically I paid £4 for fish finger sized piece of cod with a 99p portion of chip’s advertised as a £5 lunchtime deal. If I’d bought of seen it before I got home I would of definitely asked for a refund. Iv added a picture of the lunchtime £5 cod and chips next to a portion of lunchtime 99p chip portion for comparison. I like this chip shop but this by no means a good deal and more like a rip off sadly

Absolutely superb freshly cooked to order fish supper, line caught haddock was amazing. Super fresh food, great service and place is immaculately clean. Will def be back soon, highly recommend!

Spotlessly clean, friendly service. Excellent chips and fish cooked fresh to order in dedicated fryers so the chips taste like chips and not fishy. Thin crispy and light batter, none of the stodgy stuff here. Recyclable serving trays. Best chippy in Southampton in a long time.

Ordered regular cod and chips. I felt too much oiliness in the fish but the chips were great. The strange part was they don't give ketchup with the chips and you need to pay for small quantities of ketchup. In my opinion they could provide to their customers for free if they are dining there.

I only wish I discovered this chip shop earlier!!! Popped in to try their saver menu and it did not disappoint. Chips where were cooked to perfection. The battered sausage was deliciously succulent. My child was nodding whilst chowing down his fish cake. Portions were ample, food was cooked fresh, very clean premises and inviting. Staff are pleasant. I've been converted! This is now our local chippy!

Best fish and chips I've had in a long time. Though there are a couple of tables to dine in, most customers were taking away or ordering online. I ate in as my B&B don't allow food in the room. Ate the meal from the cartons quite happily. Would highly recommend.

New to the area we fancied fish and chips for dinner and having driven past many times and seen good reviews thought we'd give it a try. They have a great app which lets you order online for pick-up shortly after - this worked very well - ordered, walked 5 mins there and it was ready within 5 mins. Regular cod was amply big enough and perfectly cooked, scampi was excellent and chips were perfect (not greasy) and plentiful. Probably the best fish and chip shop I've used in a long while - will definitely be back!

Very expensive for the portion size. 7.40 for large chips, that was medium size at best. Fish lovely. But charging more than most restaurants that you visit for a meal.

Great service, called seconds after placing the order to tell me that they had none of something and could they exchange or refund the missing item. Delivered a bit earlier that estimate but I was very hundry so that was no bad thing, food was fantastic. Best fish n chips I've had in a long time. Will be returning

Fish tasted so fresh and battetered sausage was the best I ever had. Highly recommend. Only thing i would say is the curry sauce wasn't the best which is a shame but everything else was lovely.

Stopped by chance for a quick and easy lunch. Fish was perfectly cooked moist inside with crispy batter outside, chips were also crisp and tasty and not soggy. Fish is fresh crispy chips big boy sausage and service was good. however even though I love mushy peas, this one tasted like a fart in a cup.

Been here numerous times before, but I have to say that last night's effort was way and ahead the best fish & chips I've had in years. I'm not a massive batter fan, as my dogs know, but they were left salivating!!!!

Literally 10 out of 10! First time ordering and the staff (scouse lady) and the other lad who were talking about how to make welsh cakes were very friendly and gave superb service. Nice atmosphere and you can tell the staff really enjoy being themselves. Portions were super large, in fact we had enough for our dinner the next day and the fishcake was the size of 3 standard ones you'd find anywhere else. Was very fresh, hot, tasty and reasonably priced! Would definitely come back again 👍
