Amazing sushi. We will be back. Discovered this place on our way home from a show in Mayflower last week and decided to give it a try today before another show. Food was amazing and the chef/owner was very nice and gave us great advice on our choices. Quick and efficient service. This will be our first of many visits I expect.

Run by a very nice and welcoming owner!! He is a one man army, taking care of everything himself, and he is rapid! Portions are more than I ever expected them to be and mouth wateringly delicioousss compared to many many Japanese restaurants I've been. 🤤 (Also he makes tasty ice tea in house) Mind that the place is closed on Sundays.

Lovely fresh food served by the loveliest man whom clearly had a passion for what he does. Helped us and made suggestions on what to eat. Lovely friendly atmosphere!

This is a beautiful, one of a kind restaurant. We absolutely loved eating here; the owner creates such a welcoming atmosphere and cooks everything himself. The food was all amazing, we can't recommend this place enough! We are looking forward to coming back soon. Thankyou!

Received a one star rating from Southampton City Council Health inspection in May. So, are you still interested in getting food here?

We visited Yuris for the first time tonight, we were expecting the food to be good, but we found it was amazing! Yuri himself was very welcoming and funny, he made us feel at ease very quickly with a cup of homemade iced lemon tea. So Yuris is a wonderful little place, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I think everything is handmade by Yuri himself, too :)

Amazing place, food is excellent, nothing too much. Made to order, very, very fresh....!! Sashimi was the best I've had in a long time.....!!!

Extremely bad behavior by the owner

if you want an authentic Japanese food this is definitely not a place to go. 4.6 is way to high, having said that if you want to try westernised version of sushi, it may be good. I would love to know who is running that place. I was a manager of a sushi Takeway in London, and was trying to find the sushi takeway in Southampton, but this place is offending the whole culture of Japaneses sushi making. Looking at all of the food images even without trying, you can tell that sashimi are not cut the way it should to maximise the flavour and tenderness of the fish, chicken teriyaki is from the packet, the Donburi presentation is taken from someone who never even went to the Sushi place before. Serving food on white plates it feel more like Chinese Restaurant rather then Japanese one. I am extremely sorry for that review as I understand that you may be a small business, but please change the type of the restaurant that you are running, or at least do some research.

The owner was really rude and the service was very poor.

Chef was rude, he microwaved food, also the value for money is awful £33 to not be full at all, I would recommend to go anywhere but here

Came too the Yuri cottage before a show at the Mayflower last night , the food was exceptional & did not disappoint, it was some of the best sushi I have ever eaten , fast service , very fresh , well presented & can’t wait to return , extremely friendly , don’t judge a book by its cover !! Extremely yummy !!! We had 1 of the set menus , all tasty , Thank you

Favorite restaurant, must eat every week

First of all I would rate the food. It is freshly made with quality fish and produces. And you can tell that it is made by a single person in the kitchen and served you at the same time. That alone is one of a kind that is really hard to find in the UK. He mainly serves the students around the area, very friendly. I have eaten here a couple of times and the food has been one of the best sushi I have eaten. The price is definitely on the cheaper side given how good it was. If you just want a unique experience, a homely setting, a regular and familiar sight of asia cultural then this is where you want to go. The place isn't very big and isn't made for big parties so is more suitable for table of 6 or less I would say. And expect the food to come out not as quick as there is only one person serving. I will be here often :)

Fantastically enthusiastic chef with excellent Chinese food as well as elaborated Japan dishes. Definitely the most incredible restaurant in Soton, undoubtedly worth your visit.

Really friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere. My wife had the Maki rolls and I had Beef Ramen, both dishes were cooked to perfection. Will definitely go again next time I am in Southampton.

The service is very poor. The taste of the food is generally much more expensive than other Japanese restaurants. It is not recommended to go there.

Great food, perfect for lunch. But rude chef, understaffed is not our problem, keep shouting at us when ask for water and bills.

The most delicious and cost-effective restaurant in Southampton. A must-visit restaurant every time you come to Nan'an. There are no blind spots. The boss is busy with everything by himself. It may be slower when there are more people, but it is definitely worth the wait.

It's the second time I try to eat at this place and both times the chef which i think is also the owner was very disrespectful. First time, he told me that the restaurant was closed which didn't match the schedule they posted online and the second time he very rudely told me he can only do one time order and he needs cash payment which I didn't have at that moment. It's a real shame because I had good reviews when it.comes to the food but when the service are like that I'm afraid I will not try this place anymore. So if you wanna try this place bring cash and know what you want to order beforehand. 😏

Just discovered this Japanese eatery opposite to the Mayflower Theatre near Southampton train station. Good range of sushis, sashimis and donburis. Unagi Don is my favourite while the curry noodle is another popular dish that may be sold out on a busy day. Staff was super friendly and the service was fast. Waiting time is minimal and the food is of good quality. Tables and chairs could have been a bit bit bigger but overall a good place to have a nice Japanese meal in town.

Food is great but the menu is limited. Unfortunately, the owner/chef does everything: takes orders, prepares food, clears the tables, takes payment etc. This means the service is terrible when it gets busy. I was told that the establishment only accepts cash but shortly after sitting down I saw some customers transfer money from their phone to settle their bill. This was compounded when the owner gave me a 20p discount because he couldn't find 80p in his cash box. While I was there, a group of customers left because they had been waiting a long time to order and the chef kept telling them in Chinese to wait a bit. I'm not sure why he doesn't employ someone for a few hours to help take orders and serve customers while he focuses on food preparation. That would improve the experience and get more customers through his shop. As it stands, I can't recommend this place unless you go very early when it is quiet.

My husband would like to go to other restaurants that seem popular, but I felt like helping out small restaurants so we came here and had a terrible experience. When I ordered, the chef seemed upset and I thought maybe it was just his character. When the food came, it's not what I ordered, so I opened the menu again and checked, thinking the chef might got a wrong order. I didn't say a word to the chef, but I think he saw me checking the menu, then he started speaking loudly "I changed everything!, If you cannot eat it, whatever!". I had no problems if he cannot make what I ordered, but at least he should inform me that he has to change the food. And I did not even complain or anything, but I was being treated so badly. When we paid for the food, he did not say thanks to us, but he said it to everyone else. What's wrong!? I don't get it. I feel sad from trying to help small restaurants but get this experience in return.

Went before a show at the mayflower and couldn't have had a worse experience. The cleanliness was below standard and to make things worse I got food poisoning!

This is probably the best sushi I've ever had in the UK. Was absolutely incredible. Service was immaculate. Bill the owner was so welcoming and funny. We asked him to choose for us and he didn't disappoint. He cooked and served so quickly as well as made us feel very welcome. Everything was delicious. Value for quality sushi is really good. Couldn't recommend more. Get the soft shell crab sushi (the alien) this was my favourite! Can't wait to go back and will be taking friends!

Very decent food at a very nice pricing. 15pounds you can have a nice quality non-vegan sushi roll and a drink. The avocado and shrimp sushi roll is very worth to try.

What a hidden gem! If you luv sushi go here! It is such a cool spot off the beat and path. We’ve been eating sushi for decades and this is the beat we’ve ever had!

Five of us had a fantastic pre-show dinner here, all cooked and served by the amazingly friendly mine host. 2 courses of stunning freshly prepared Sushi (tuna, salmon, bamboo and dragon Sushi rolls, sesame seaweed salad), flash fried scallops, and a "main" of satay chicken and dumplings - so not all totally Japanese. As we would say in Scotland- pure dead brilliant ie faultless.

OMG, after 9 years I found my favourite Sushi place again. Bill had a sushi place 10 years ago at East street but he closed his shop and I tried many places during these years. Today I found this place and I saw Bill after 9 years. He still make the best Sushi in town. He make all order fresh and very fast. This place is not very fancy but if you want to eat good sushi you should try this place.

Another trip back to Southampton for a meal at yuri cottage. Bill's food is exquisite, delicious and beautifully presented. Yuri Cottage is the only reason we come in to Southampton now! 3rd visit this year and we will be back! Thank you Bill.

What a find, best sashimi I’ve had, excellent food, Bill is amazing, so friendly and welcoming. Didn’t need a menu we just agreed a price per head then Bill kept making us delicious sushi and sashimi until we were full! Great place to go before a show at the Mayflower. The chef and owner is a lovely person and always loves to give each party a recommendation based on their preferences and budget. And always providing a good price. A snug, cosy and relaxed vibe. The owner is passionate about the food, genuinely cares that you're enjoying each dish and is just a lovely guy. Walked in to an empty restaurant. Owner tells me it’s bookings or takeaway only. I point out that it’s empty, and he repeats bookings or takeaway only. I ask whether he wants my money, and he says no. Proceeds to shout and swear at me as I leave, disgusted and hungry.

Completely and utterly stunning food. I was strongly recommended this place by my other half, and was immediately blown away. The owner was so warm, funny, and welcoming, taking extra time to check in with us, and even cook and bring us the food himself! The environment was perfectly humble, peaceful, and pleasant. The plates in the Set Menu were brought to us one by one, with perfect pacing, both in terms of timing, but also in terms of the palette variety and flavour build throughout the meal. The presentation was beautiful and intricate, and you could tell passion had gone into every dish. This wasn't just delicious food, this was a whole flavour experience/journey. Recently had sushi at a high-end place in London, and this was EASILY as good, but with MUCH BETTER value! We will be back!

We popped into this little sushi place on the way to beach holiday. Found it through the google reviews and we wasn’t disappointed. Freshly made sushi to order, the boss was really friendly and recommended his specials which was delicious. We’ll definitely come back again!

If you would like your own personal Sushi Chef then this is the place to eat . We went last night and were the only ones in there at the time we arrived. We were sceptical at first but as soon as we tasted the food we were blown away by how good the quality was. Great advice from the Chef on what would suit us and what he recommended. Going back again very soon.. Oh by the way he never reads any of the reviews he said... haa :)

Very lovely food, so nice and fresh and such good value, the gentleman there (not sure if he was the owner, he was the only one there) got the food out quickly and was so kind. He even gave us a box for takeaway as we were too full to finish it all, definitely recommend.

First time to Yuri cottage, but not first time having food made from Bill, he used to run old town in town centre which we used to frequent before it as sold. Food is great, sushi is second to none. If you love sushi then you must try this place. Bill runs a loyalty program where you get 20% off if you go back within 2 weeks and 40% off within another 2 weeks.

Great sushi, the best I’ve ever tasted. Succulent and carefully made sushi. Beautifully presented. Cut with precision and accompanied by evenly proportioned wasabi and soy sauce. Highly recommend to sushi lovers.

Para aquellos que han estado aquí en el pasado, sabrán lo bueno que es el sushi aquí, el mejor que he probado en este país. Mi esposa y yo hemos sido clientes habituales durante algunos años. Realmente es sin duda el mejor en Hampshire. Ignore las revisiones de diciembre de 2019 y enero de 2020. Hubo diferentes propietarios que casi necesitaban las cosas, pero Bill regresó y también lo hizo la increíble calidad de la comida. En este momento difícil en el que no podemos ir a restaurantes, Yuri Cottage está abierto para llevar, así que hazlo para que puedas apoyar a Bill para que continúe ofreciendo este sushi excepcional durante mucho tiempo.

I first went to Yuri Cottage for my birthday dinner as I'm a huge sushi fan and the reviews clearly stated this restaurant is the best in town. It was June 2019 and, since then, I became a frequent client (although they shut down for a bit and that broke my heart). The sushi is just incredible. Fish is fresh and it's always presented in a nice way. I love how you can tell Yuri how much you would like to spend and how hungry you are, and he will give you what he thinks is best. By doing this, I could try dishes I didn't know and only stuck to the usual ones. I highly recommend this place for the quality of the food, the great price of the dishes, the location (it's very central - two minutes away from Central Station and the city centre, located in front of the Mayflower theatre). It's never too busy and Yuri is lovely!

Fantastic sushi restaurant right in the centre of Southampton! Genuinely some of the best sushi I have ever had, and Bill was an excellent host, serving a wide variety of dishes which were all perfectly prepared. I would absolutely recommend a visit!
