Tonkotsu Brighton in Brighton and Hove

Had an amazing birthday dinner at Tomkotsu! Servers where amazing! Felt really welcome! Had a nice "OH same company" with the shirt I was wearing! The ramen was really amazing had the place named ramen! The chocolate, caramel miso ice cream cake was amazing. Thanks again for an great time!

The food was resonable here. I had shitake gyoza and the tonkotsu. The roasted pork was a little anemic but tasted good. Staff were pleasant, ambience was good. Now the reason for my one star: on every table is an open jar of chilli oil. Open to coughs, sneezes, dust particles, skin flakes, cleaning spray, and anything else floating around inside, and we did not eat it. We were there late and towards closing, the staff collected all of the open jars and began to empty them into large plastic containers. I assume for storing overnight before putting back into the jars for the next service. This also will ensure that every germ, bit of crud entering each jar during service gets mixed in and re-served. This totally put me off and I won't be back.

I had a lovely evening here when visiting family in Brighton. Gyoza and Ramen was very good. Excellent service from friendly staff.

Everything was delicious 10/10. Didn't feel 100% authentic, but still would go back. Gyoza was so yummy. Staff were great. We sat at the bar because we hadn't booked - went about 6pm on a Saturday. Would recommend booking or you might have to wait.

Delicious Japanese food. The pulled pork ramen was delicious. One of a chain of restaurants but felt like a one off. Super friendly and helpful staff. Coped with eight of us on a busy Saturday lunchtime. Moved tables around no bother and no hassle.

I strongly recommend you eat there while in Brighton! the ramen are probably the best I've ever had and the staff is lovely! For drinks I can recommend the Yuzu Lemonade (if you like sour drinks) and make sure to try the plum wine. I'm already looking forward to eating here again!

Fantastic Ramen and a good selection of sides, desserts and drinks - including Kirin Ichiban on draft. Interior / atmosphere is a bit too industrial chic / unremarkable for what could have been designed as a more authentic and nostalgic ramen restaurant. I have travelled to Japan and also visited most of the Ramen chains in London and the UK - including Tonkotsu, Shoryu, Kanada-Ya and Bone Daddies. This by no means makes me an expert on Ramen but when deciding to visit Tonkotsu in Brighton I assumed it would be decent, if otherwise forgettable food, and not too expensive. These low expectations therefore made the experience very pleasant and surprising. I ordered a regular size Chilli Tofu Ramen, with a side of Kimchi and a pint of Kirin. Everything came out quickly and I was immediately impressed by the ramen. There was a lot of noodles and toppings and not an absurd amount of broth. I also like that on your table you have access to as much soy sauce and chilli oil as you like - although it would be good to have a little spoon for the chilli oil as who knows how many chopsticks have gone into there. The ramen itself was honestly fantastic. The broth didn't have as strong a taste and sense of umami flavour as the best ramens of Japan but the accompanying toppings and volume of noodles made up for it. You can also chase a richer broth using the soy sauce and chilli oil on the table. The tofu of the dish was nice and crunchy and added an additional element. The side of kimchi (priced at £4.25) was a generous portion rather than the thimble sized bowl you can be served at other restaurants. My friend ordered one of the ice cream sandwiches for dessert. He was quite apprehensive due to the price (£6.50 a pop) but absolutely loved the dessert. If you're into that kind of thing I can't fault them. The service was okay. We were served and ordered quickly but as the restaurant became busier, it increasingly became a battle to get the waiting staffs attention. It took us approximately 15-20 minutes to get our bill for example, irritating rather than infuriating. The atmosphere and interior of the restaurant is similarly 'okay', if a tad soulless. I understand the draw of industrial chic but I don't see a problem with making the restaurant feel more authentically 'Japanese' - even if it's not. It could just be nostalgia for the ramen bars of Japan but if you're going to serve up ramen this good, why not aim to provide the true experience.

TLDR: Really good ramen place with great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. 🍜👌 Me and my partner came here as we needed a place we could briefly stop by for some food before checking into our apartment. That being said, Tonkotsu was on our list of places to visit whilst in Brighton. This place is really cozy and much bigger than you'd expect so don't let the entrance fool you. There's a passageway which opens up into a larger room and this place can easily accommodate a party of 5-6 (possibly more). The food was great. Not the best ramen I've had but still worthy of praise. Me and my partner were served and our food came within 10 minutes so we didn't wait long at all. I went with a Tokyo Ramen which is essentially chicken broth with Tonkotsu (pork). I'd rate it a 4/5. My partner had the Chilli Chicken Ramen which she rated 5/5. The customer service here was fantastic. Really helpful and when we paid, the member of staff that served us asked if we'd like a list of places he recommended which was very much appreciated. We're going to try and go back to Tonkotsu before we leave Brighton.

The food was amazing, I had the Tokyo Ramen and a side of gyoza. The pork was cooked just right and the food was just super fresh. The service was pretty darn good too. I would recommend stopping here if you're in town and like an authentic tasting ramen.

Nice bar restaurant with excellent ramen, kari age and gyoza. Some decent beers and wine, super friendly service and relaxed vibe. Food is much better than the average ramen chain, as is the overall experience. Love the tonkotsu and fried chicken.

Went to Tonkotsu for lunch and it was fantastic! We ordered a Ramen dish and katsu curry and they were both excellent. Service was quick, the food was hot and freshly prepared. All the staff were friendly and attentive. We had some cocktails with our food as well which were also delicious and great value. We will definitely stop by here again! We went here twice and the food was amazing. We enjoy Japanese food and this has been by far our favourite place to go for it. The staff are super friendly and attentive. Both times we have been served by Lewis who was very pleasant and welcoming both times. We look forward to going back next time we're in Brighton.

Been here and to a couple of other branches. Currently enjoying either the chilli tofu or the heat of the Kaki Gari. Great value and the pit stop to go to for a quick seemingly healthy filling bite.

Food is superb, I mean seriously good ramen. Website needs a bit of work, two prices for things but then doesn’t say if this is eat in or takeaway, or portion size? Doesn’t state clear enough that it’s card only, which for me is a major down point. Businesses should and must continue to take cash, as card payments diminish the value of money. It isn’t clear from looking at the online menu what is available for takeaway and what is not.

Loved it here, I ordered the Tokyo ramen and was swept off my feet it was so delicious 😋, lots of tables to choose from and you don't get shoved somewhere to sit, great atmosphere - clean and tidy and modern but not boring modern, had some charm and character. Staff were kind and relaxed. Had a lovely great dinner could not be more happy, definitely want to come back when I can. The ramen here beat a wagamamas one out of the ball park. So yummy and great value.

Amazing vegan options! Amazing! I am so happy to finally walk out of a ramen shop that actually satisfies me because it also serves extra noodles for those big eaters like me. Could've had a tad more broth but other than that, would return! That crispy silken tofu was to die for!

Absolutely delicious food, tasted so fresh and had so much flavour. We had the chilli chicken ramen, prawn ramen, pork gyoza, chicken wings, kimchi and ice-cream sandwich desert. All were delicious and would 100% recommend doing here. Staff were great to top it all off! Thanks for a lovely meal.

Fried chicken was very overcooked. Ramen were ok and decent portion. Egg were nice and runny. Gyoza looks great but a little cold in the centre. Staff were not too friendly and lack of a simple smile and greeting.

I have travelled the world eating Tonkontsu Ramen. Many come very close but this was is by far the worst Tonkontsu ramen I have ever tasted. The broth is so bad. 1. They never remove the initial boil layer or pot. Hence the heavy pork smell. 2. They didn’t simmer the pork overnight for more than 12 hours. The noodles comes from a factory, it’s not terrible but just below par when you come after 4pm. It’s been sitting there the whole day. The egg; looks the part but there is not enough soy sauce taste. I felt I literally got robbed and my stomach beaten up by the sheer disappointment. Great place, neat, excellent staff. The chef need to retire and go back and work at subway sandwhich bar. Or maybe hotdogs at Costco. I am so offended by their cooking!

My son’s favourite! The food is superb, so tasty and fresh. Small menu but we’ve eaten there several times and enjoyed every meal. The staff are delightful. Tables are available at the back or the bar at any time of day without booking. Highly recommend.

Delicious (same as all Tonkotsu places!) — loved the cool summer ramen with no soup. Everything always feels so fresh and well cooked. Portion was really generous as well!

Brilliant authentic ramen and more! I went with a friend and we both had a super meal. The staff were friendly and helpful and even accommodated a rather strange request in a very reasonable manner. There are now a few good places for ramen in Brighton and Hove, but this one definitely gets a 'thumbs up'!

The atmosphere was nice. The food was very nice. There was 4 of us so tried a few dishes, and all of them were good.

The food itself is not perfect, I’ve been a number of times, sometimes very good but sometimes not so. Some of the sauces used for coating are just too sweet and taste more like a dessert. The Tonkotsu broth is the star, their own beer is also excellent. The highlight is the team of staff members, they are all extremely friendly and went above and beyond to make you feel welcome.

Lovely food at a decent price. It seems their food is a little hit and miss from the other reviews but I have enjoyed it, its a nice enviroment to meet with friends. one complaint really is the scan the menu idea, its great but everytime I go I seem to run into problems. The first time I went I didn't bring my debit card with me, so I couldn't make an account, My friends didn't realise this and had already ordered. Trying to wave down a server felt a little like I was in a mission impossible movie throughout the evening. I mean the servers are lovely don't get me wrong! but I think the app just caused a knock on effect that just sent the evening into a bit of chaos. if not for the app I would give five stars. Also I booked a table for my birthday meal, and was not told until 15 minutes after arrival that I only had 90 minutes. I don't know if there was just a miscommunication on the phone, but it caused me to go into a panic as otherwise I would of told my friends the booking was 20 minutes earlier than it was! xD I hadn't thought that on just a general weekday that would be a rule. I could understand if it was the weekend, but oh well, we ate drunk and had a lovely time with still 15-20 minutes to spare!

Tonkotsu Brighton is a solid "middle of the road" ramen experience. It's not that this place is bad, it's really not, the vibe is pleasant and the staff are really nice, the food is just kind of a let down. Gyoza: Seems to be pre-prepared and quickly heated on a griddle. Normally fine, but they just kind of fell apart when eaten and had no dipping sauce? Ramen: I'm not sure if they make their broth for the tonkotsu in house, but it lacks a fair amount of flavour and seasoning. The pork seems reheated rather than cooked fresh. However, on a positive note, their noodles are very good. Asian food is now hyper competitive and frankly elsewhere will offer a better experience. If you've eaten from a number of ramen places, you may be disappointed, but if you're a Japanese food newbie, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Distinctly average: average food, average experience, average decor, etc. Ramen was just OK, broth was lovely. Probably wouldn't go there again, especially when there are better alternatives very close by if you want your fix of Asian cuisine.

Terrible. Ordered the 'king prawn' katsu...3 'iceland' style battered prawns! Cauliflower bites were a disgusting, oily, vinegary mess. Whole lot went in the bin. An insult to Japanese food.

Was going to pop into a different Japanese place 'round the corner but they were cash only. I suggested we try this place. Ordered by QR code. I had a Tokyo Ramen, chicken soy broth, bamboo shoots, Pork Belly, seasoned egg, and possibly spring onions. My memory fails me. Also had a Yuzu Lemonade. And honestly. Me and my mum were pleasantly surprised. We are in fact Japanese. My mum is from the Tonkotsu ramen region and so might try the Tonkotsu next time. The pork belly was great. And I mean it was really good. Tender, melted in your mouth, flavoursome. So although I am not the biggest fan of QRCODE ordering, apart from that I did quite enjoy the place, and would definitely go again.

Had the vegan ramen, for the very affordable price, the portion was very good. Delicious place in Brighton if you are also looking for healthy Asian cuisine. The staff was lovely helpful and very welcoming. Good alcohol selection. Cannot wait to be back soon and try more of the menu!

We were so hungry and the smaller elements of the meal were very quick to arrive. King prawn katsu and kewpie mayo so good we had 2, we had a seafood ramen and 2 mushroom ramen, broccoli and gyoza - All top notch and bursting with flavours. Drinks are a bit lumpy on the price. But the location demands a cost and we were happy to pay it for the experience. See you again.

I went there one month ago as part of my inmersion, one day I came and ate here. Food is really good and tasty and also staff are really kind. I am definitely repeating when I come back to Brighton

Wasn't particularly blown away by the ramen to be honest

A generic bland fast-food chain ideal that profits from E Asian culture without contributing to it in any way so filled with people who like E Asian food but don’t like E Asian restaurants or culture. Only two weirdly tiny and dirty loos. The staff use the accessible loo. Much better quality and value from authentic places close by. Check your bill BEFORE you pay to see if they haven’t ‘accidentally’ slipped-in items. Don’t let them rush you. It’ll take up to a week for a refund.

Ramen far from what I am expecting and what I am used to, no tan tan men for r instance, portions are small, staff was nice but didn't pay attention to my friend wish for its meal. He asked no egg and got one. Style do not replace taste.

Delicious food every time. Recommend the chillibking prawn ramen and the kimchi. So good. I don't like the way you have to order from QR code though. I prefer a more interactive service as it is all part of eating out, and I won't pay a service charge when they do it this way.

Great ramen, awesome karaage, clean and modern interior with great atmosphere. Absolutely going again! The will do both orders at the table, and via a website where payment is taken as you order. This place has free, open WiFi.

Food was nice, staff were friendly. The 3 star review is because they asked me to order on their annoying app which pushed me to choose level of service charge I was willing to pay before we even got our drinks! It defaulted to 12.5%.

Huge varieties of Ramen. Very tasty!!! The interior is more modern style. The service team was super fast and more than friendly.

Went for lunch, food was amazing. The menu website is brilliantly designed to help cater to allergies and inform up Ingredients. The staff were a good level of attentive and super friendly. Definitely will be coming back soon
