Tonkotsu Brighton in Brighton and Hove

Really good ramen and Kara age! Lots of options and add ons with rotating specials. Great sodas too. Would recommend the chili tofu ramen!

I've been coming to Tonkotsu for some years now, both London and Brighton. The quality and flavours have never changed, love them completely. My main problem is with the ramen portions, they used to be HUGE. And yes, it was difficult to finish them and yei for no more food waste, but the prices didn't go down with the portions. That has bugged me ever since. Even so, love the food, nice atmosphere and always great service. I still go there so, yeah, love them.

Really disappointed. We've ordered from Tonkotsu before, and eaten in and it's been really good. Today we ordered and what arrived was totally flavourless and thin. The meat was old and dry. Everything was wrong.

Stumbled across Tonkotsu on a Monday evening, it wasn’t too busy at the time I went. Chilled out good atmosphere and friendly service! The food came almost as soon as I ordered and it tasted perfect, definitely a great choice if you want some tasty hearty ramen!

The last bowl of ramen I had here was mostly a clump of stodgy dough, inedible. I did mention this to my server and they apologised, but offered no replacement or refund, which was a shame. But its fine, there are better Ramen bars in Brighton that are cheaper and tastier.

Lovely meal here near the Brighton dome. I got the vegan chilli tofu ramen. Silken ramen with soya mince too. Loads of protein. Not too spicy I added some extra chilli oil from the table. I prefer extra broth (you can add more) but plenty of noodles. My pal had the vegan mushroom ramen.

Wonderful experience Sam Johnny and Lucy were a wonderful team, i felt welcomed and cared for! Thank you tonkotsu! You've made my day!

Dissatisfied by the “spiciest” soup on the menu being not spicy at all.

Had a lovely ramen dinner but the real star was Sam who was kind, friendly and very helpful. Would definitely dine here again.

Must say our server (Jonathan) was “A” class. He took the time to help us understand the make up of our meal and even how to create a tasty, signature sauce from our table condiments. The ambience and cleanliness was lovely too. Thank you Jonathan, you made our ramen experience all worthwhile!!

Had the tonkotsu ramen, pork gyoza, chicken kaarage and the honey and miso chicken. It was spectacular and we will most definitely return to try the rest of the menu

The food was good and there were vegetarian options, but the waiting time for the meal was quite long (about half an hour), and the waiter was asked to provide boiled water, but it was not served in the end.

Lovely food and atmosphere. Staff was super nice, always friendly and smiling, really good options and vegan alternatives, definitely worth trying. Only thing is the wait time to get served and even getting a drink was a looot, we could clearly see how overworked the staff was and the fact that apps were obviously a priority, as there were so many bags of food getting delivered to drivers while we were waiting 20 minutes for a drink, so that was definitely not ideal, hopefully it is not always the case though. Would definitely go back for the amazing customer service they provided as everyone was so friendly and the food was incredible.

Very snobbish service. Nobody gave us a menu. We were waiting for 15 minutes. She was just going back and forth and serving other ppl. So we just left. And then I saw her wry smile ! Never will come back to that place. Awful service ! Racists.

We were a large group (12), but it took them 1.5h to serve us while most tables around us had multiple guests coming and going. For some, the food arrived cold or not cooked properly, which made things even worse.

i like the generous amount of pork in this ramen, egg is cooked to perfection, and the black wood ear is very crunchy so gives a new texture to the bowl. i would like it better if the broth is richer but it’s just down to personal preference. as an asian i wouldn’t say this is the best ramen i’ve ever had but it’s definitely up there if you’re counting those in the uk :)

I went here to eat something and I was delighted. The service was very good, the food was delicious, the hungry was clean and cute and overall very good. The price is quite good for the dishes they serve. Five stars, in my opinion.

One of the best places to eat in Brighton, even when incredibly understaffed during a lunch rush they still got all the food to us on time, it was all so delicious and well presented. The small ramen was still quite large and filling so be aware when ordering that the small is like a standard Ikea bowl size. I also ordered 2 portions of their crispy enoki mushrooms (not pictured I ate them too fast) because they were so good. Amazing place, really bubbly friendly staff and they also do a student discount!

First came here for an off-the-cuff lunch with my 14-year-old daughter while wandering The Lanes. I was very happy with my Kakugiri Ramen, while she was over the moon with her kids’ chicken katsu bento and a side of katsu prawns. So happy was she, that it became our primary reason to come back to Brighton for dinner at the weekend. If you’ve got fussy kids, you know what a gem this is to find. We were warmly greeted by every member of staff, Jonny took our order and eagerly shared recommendations. My daughter stuck to the same order while I switched it up to a Tokyo Ramen. Which, with a soy base, was delicious and offers that bit more of an umami kick than the Kakugiri (sea salt base). Luckily I wasn’t too full to eat it despite a side of flavourful, filling-packed Pork & Ginger Gyoza. But, the star of the show was the Chef’s Special side of Enoki Karaage. This deep-fried cluster of slender mushrooms should come with an instruction manual on how to eat it with any manners. But the sticky fingers and mickey-taking from my teenage counterpart was worth every bite. A perfect balance of crunch and chew with a delicate flavour that needed no accompaniment. Georgia looked after us in a friendly and attentive way throughout our meal, adding to the experience. The 4 stars, rather than 5, for atmosphere is purely subjective because the family that were seated next to us were…a lot. Love this place, will be back repeatedly through summer with the intention of trying the whole menu (and more karaage) while my daughter eats all the panko-breadcrumbed meats.

Truly charming. There is no other word to define it. The waiters treated me very well, I felt at home. Delicious food and very calm atmosphere. If I return to Brighton I will definitely return.

So glad we found this place. We had the Enoki kaarage, veggie gyozas and kimchi to start. All great flavours, tasty and fresh. Then we had the star of the show- vegan tofu chilli ramen and an egg. Which packed an incredible flavour, best ramen I've ever had!! We will be back for sure!

Love this place. Come all the time with my friends and the staff recognise us every time which makes the experience. The food is always top tier and the new enoki Kara-age was actually amazing.

The setting is clean and pretty. We took a Miso ramen & a chili chicken ramen and they were very tasteless, even if I emptied half of the chili oil in mine. If you've never eaten ramen before and if you don't like spicy food it can be a good first experience for you.

Hi, I am not one to leave reviews despite the level of service I have received however my time at Tonkotsu in Brighton stood out massively. The food and atmosphere was great but I particularly found the service outstanding. I think his name was Jonathan and he was a perfect mix of professional and friendly and answered any questions I had. Thank you Jonathan, if I’m back in Brighton I will be back because of this positive experience.

Had a quiet business lunch here mod week. Staff were very friendly and brought little bits of starters for us to try before actually ordering. The Chicken Katsu curry was very good, with a bit of tempura style courgette. Plenty of food as well.

Loved eating here! Their chicken kara-age was the best crispy chicken I've had in Brighton! Tokyo ramen was a bit too salty for my taste but chilli chicken one is amazing. Prices are also very reasonable. Definitely will be coming back!

A nice ramen restaurant, but the food is a bit hit-or-miss. Last time the Tokyo ramen was quite good, just a bit too salty. But this time, the Tiger prawn ramen was way too salty and lacked variety. There were just 4 tiger prawns (which were the only very good part of the dish), a bit of greens and a heap of noodles. They could have at least put 2 halves of an egg. Given this is one of their most expensive dishes, I was expecting more variety. Plus, we had to ask the staff three times before they remembered to bring us tap water, which was dearly needed given the amount of salt.

Great place. Amazing staff. I went there to buy their noodles to use at home(best noodles around IMO). Staff very friendly and accommodating. Definitely worth going to.

Went there multiple times by myself and with my husband. Great food, even better staff. Very nice and accommodating. I went there to buy some noodles to use at home(best noodles around IMO) and was looked after even though it's not something listed on the menu( not on its own. Normal people buy the whole meal. 😉 ). Will definitely keep coming back. My favourite one is the tokyo ramen. The tonkotsu broth they have is very creamy and rich. You can tell they make it from scratch, not out of stock powder.

My boyfriend and I have eaten in this lovely place. I fancied a warm ramen bowl, and searching up on Google maps we came across this restaurant. The local is quite big, with many seats and a wide range of dishes. Of course there are vegetarian options, and not only ramen. I ordered some dumplings as well, and I highly recommend both! The price is very affordable.

So nice, delicious food at a very good price, the restaurant is decorated so nicely and on certain days they do student offers although the regular price is still fine. I like that it's dog friendly because you get to see dogs in there sometimes, staff are friendly and I want to try all the food available. You are given chopsticks to eat by default so keep in mind if you don't know how to use them, although the ramen comes with a spoon.

We went as a large group, 7 of us overall. They brought the food out really quickly. It was absolutely delicious. Everyone enjoyed their food. Having the options of the small plates was really handy as we didn't all want a big meal. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We are from Vancouver, Canada, staying in England for 2 months. We've been homesick for some authentic Asian cuisine. My husband lived in Japan for several years and I am Japanese on my Mom's side. Vancouver has an amazing amount of high quality, Asian restaurants so we did not have expectations for the same in Britain. We were so pleasantly surprised by the food at Tonkatsu. The gyozas are quite authentic with light dough and tasty filling (we ordered the pork). I've had the chicken katsu curry several times. The katsu is fried perfeclty crispy and light - not too bready. The curry is very flavourful. My husband loved the texture, moistness and flavour of the chicken kara-age. My kids ordered the Tonkotso and chilli tofu ramen. Both high quality and fresh ingredients and hearty, clean broths, not too greasy. We found out from the server that all the gyozas and noodles are handmade (yay!) in London and delivered to the various restaurant locations. - You can tell by the quality and taste! Our only criticism would be that we are used to more powerful flavours in all the dishes. Would highly recommend this restaurant and we'll be back before we leave Brighton!

Had an amazing birthday dinner at Tomkotsu! Servers where amazing! Felt really welcome! Had a nice "OH same company" with the shirt I was wearing! The ramen was really amazing had the place named ramen! The chocolate, caramel miso ice cream cake was amazing. Thanks again for an great time!

Really bad service. Waited 35 mins for the bill and was looked over several times

The food was resonable here. I had shitake gyoza and the tonkotsu. The roasted pork was a little anemic but tasted good. Staff were pleasant, ambience was good. Now the reason for my one star: on every table is an open jar of chilli oil. Open to coughs, sneezes, dust particles, skin flakes, cleaning spray, and anything else floating around inside, and we did not eat it. We were there late and towards closing, the staff collected all of the open jars and began to empty them into large plastic containers. I assume for storing overnight before putting back into the jars for the next service. This also will ensure that every germ, bit of crud entering each jar during service gets mixed in and re-served. This totally put me off and I won't be back.

Everything was delicious 10/10. Didn't feel 100% authentic, but still would go back. Gyoza was so yummy. Staff were great. We sat at the bar because we hadn't booked - went about 6pm on a Saturday. Would recommend booking or you might have to wait.

Delicious Japanese food. The pulled pork ramen was delicious. One of a chain of restaurants but felt like a one off. Super friendly and helpful staff. Coped with eight of us on a busy Saturday lunchtime. Moved tables around no bother and no hassle.

I strongly recommend you eat there while in Brighton! the ramen are probably the best I've ever had and the staff is lovely! For drinks I can recommend the Yuzu Lemonade (if you like sour drinks) and make sure to try the plum wine. I'm already looking forward to eating here again!

Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and great service. I was recommended the Vegan Chilli Tofu Ramen and it was thoroughly enjoyable, sometimes I find ramen broths too oily but this was just right. Can't wait to return.

Fantastic Ramen and a good selection of sides, desserts and drinks - including Kirin Ichiban on draft. Interior / atmosphere is a bit too industrial chic / unremarkable for what could have been designed as a more authentic and nostalgic ramen restaurant. I have travelled to Japan and also visited most of the Ramen chains in London and the UK - including Tonkotsu, Shoryu, Kanada-Ya and Bone Daddies. This by no means makes me an expert on Ramen but when deciding to visit Tonkotsu in Brighton I assumed it would be decent, if otherwise forgettable food, and not too expensive. These low expectations therefore made the experience very pleasant and surprising. I ordered a regular size Chilli Tofu Ramen, with a side of Kimchi and a pint of Kirin. Everything came out quickly and I was immediately impressed by the ramen. There was a lot of noodles and toppings and not an absurd amount of broth. I also like that on your table you have access to as much soy sauce and chilli oil as you like - although it would be good to have a little spoon for the chilli oil as who knows how many chopsticks have gone into there. The ramen itself was honestly fantastic. The broth didn't have as strong a taste and sense of umami flavour as the best ramens of Japan but the accompanying toppings and volume of noodles made up for it. You can also chase a richer broth using the soy sauce and chilli oil on the table. The tofu of the dish was nice and crunchy and added an additional element. The side of kimchi (priced at £4.25) was a generous portion rather than the thimble sized bowl you can be served at other restaurants. My friend ordered one of the ice cream sandwiches for dessert. He was quite apprehensive due to the price (£6.50 a pop) but absolutely loved the dessert. If you're into that kind of thing I can't fault them. The service was okay. We were served and ordered quickly but as the restaurant became busier, it increasingly became a battle to get the waiting staffs attention. It took us approximately 15-20 minutes to get our bill for example, irritating rather than infuriating. The atmosphere and interior of the restaurant is similarly 'okay', if a tad soulless. I understand the draw of industrial chic but I don't see a problem with making the restaurant feel more authentically 'Japanese' - even if it's not. It could just be nostalgia for the ramen bars of Japan but if you're going to serve up ramen this good, why not aim to provide the true experience.

We needed somewhere for a quick lunch pitstop and we were not disappointed! We had the lunch set menu and had some delicious chilli chicken ramen and the kakugiri ramen with the pork gyozas. Would highly recommend the chilli oil too - delicious! Caitlin made the experience so much nicer but kindly gifting us a bottle of the chilli oil after I had enquired about purchasing one. Will definitely be back!

TLDR: Really good ramen place with great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. 🍜👌 Me and my partner came here as we needed a place we could briefly stop by for some food before checking into our apartment. That being said, Tonkotsu was on our list of places to visit whilst in Brighton. This place is really cozy and much bigger than you'd expect so don't let the entrance fool you. There's a passageway which opens up into a larger room and this place can easily accommodate a party of 5-6 (possibly more). The food was great. Not the best ramen I've had but still worthy of praise. Me and my partner were served and our food came within 10 minutes so we didn't wait long at all. I went with a Tokyo Ramen which is essentially chicken broth with Tonkotsu (pork). I'd rate it a 4/5. My partner had the Chilli Chicken Ramen which she rated 5/5. The customer service here was fantastic. Really helpful and when we paid, the member of staff that served us asked if we'd like a list of places he recommended which was very much appreciated. We're going to try and go back to Tonkotsu before we leave Brighton.

The food was amazing, I had the Tokyo Ramen and a side of gyoza. The pork was cooked just right and the food was just super fresh. The service was pretty darn good too. I would recommend stopping here if you're in town and like an authentic tasting ramen.
