Tongs Chinese Takeaway in Newcastle upon Tyne

Just went in this evening for a takeaway, girl on the desk isn’t very friendly or outgoing and seemed to resent us ordering. Added some prawn crackers to our order too. They are at least a day old and not fresh today, very disappointing a takeaway I go to often has such low standards and treats its customers this way. Time to find a new Chinese takeaway who don’t recycle yesterday’s garbage and sell it as fresh.

I used this Chinese all the time when I lived in Throckley but moved out the area, never had one for about 6 months and ooooo dear I won't be back. Ordered food for collection so disappointed Singapore chowmain not even spicy salt and pepper chops was disgusting dried out and salt and pepper chicken!!!! Well 30 quid to the bin

1st time trying this place and it will be the last beef curry if you call it beef it was just fat n grisly it was disgusting

Putting the food in a smaller container but charging the same price

When order placed was told delivery in 45mins, fine no problem, 1hr20 mins later we ring up again and told driver left 5mins ago!!!. Roll on another 25mins delivery arrives and says there busy!!!. Total order to delivery 1hr 45mins So why when when we ordered why didnt they say delivery 1hr to 2hrs. Absolute joke.

orders are never correct, food always cold and far too sweet. Will never use again!

This used to be our go to Chinese, not anymore. Spent £34 last night on various dishes, everything was expected apart from the fried rice which was a clump of starchy mess. However, got woken up at 5am with terrible stomach cramps, through the eye of a needle comes to mind, this was the same for all of us. Time to look for a new Chinese I'm afraid. Would not recommend anymore.

I travel from north shields to this tongs chinese ,i used to love it ,got a meal tonight smaller portions which everyine is doing ,but there was no taste to all of the meal i got which is very dissapointing and i asked for extra spicy which it was not ,just didnt taste if anything really,i got house special chow mein, chicken and char sui curry extra spicy ,house special chilli and garlic extea spicy with a few extras,i will not be coming back here ever again and wilk be telling everyone i know who lives up that way not to bother,worst meal i have had for a long time ,disgusting really

Friendly family run Chinese takeaway and super tasty food. The only Chinese takeaway I would use...

Food was edible but just not to our liking. We ordered house special in green chilli and garlic with boiled rice, salt and pepper chips and curry sauce. Disappointed that the house special was only, king prawn, beef and chicken. The sauce was nice but not really strong in flavour. The beef was also burnt 😞 The chips didn’t have a lot of flavour and they weren’t cooked enough. The curry sauce was quite sweet but a bit spicy. Would try again in the hope it might be a bit better.

Waited over an hour and 15 mins for food inedible, meats all burnt tastes of carbon. When called shop told driver busy and would be a long wait for redelivery. Free one next time apparently. Totally unacceptable. Wouldn't bother !!

Absolutely disgusting flavourless overcooked soggy noodles and overcooked fried rice what a total waste of money would avoid this place

Fast friendly service. Found red string in food and not much meat in the wontons unfortunately but tasted alright

Had chicken and Cashew nuts, chips, curry sauce were nice.

We live nowhere near this place, but when we come anywhere near my missus makes us go. I don't eat Chinese food, but my missus swears it's faultless. When I did eat it, this was by far the best place for miles and miles (over 20 at least). Staff are always bang on as well

Ordered the curry was too thick and every time I would eat a part a fill was already there. While eating I was Retching like I wanted to throw up. It was disgusting. I also throw up a bit of it.

I know times are changing and costs do go up but when you put the prices up and cut down on the ingredients that go in is a bit much . Plus I have never had to pay separately for chips with a beef curry. I cannot say personaly I will go back

I would rate this place minus stars. The chips were raw, absolutely disgusting. The ribs were burnt. It was overpriced and an absolute abomination. I will never eat there again. And i certainly wouldn't recommend this place to a single person they should be ashamed of themselves!

I always enjoy the food at Tongs Chinese Take Away in Denton Burn I've never had a bad meal from them yet. I love their mini spring rolls and they always give me plenty and their Curry House Special is always nice and because I have an allergy to Sea Food they are always obliging when I ask them not to put any sea food into the house special.

Bought a takeaway from here last night beef & and black bean sauce with added chow mien, absolutely disgusting, complete waste of money, Have always used this takeaway but never again

Tongs is by far the best Chinese around! I have tried different Chinese places and nothing comes close! My local since I was a kid and still the best about!

Food superb as always especially the chicken black bean sauce chow main(my fav). My SO loves the honey and chilli chicken. Staff are always welcoming and lovely.

Just ordered a take away, and this is by far the worst takeaway I've had from tongs. The beef was awful and the noodles were extremely greasy. Usually have a good meal from tongs, but in this occasion it was awful

Bought a munch Box for me and the wife to share wasn't the best I've had wasn't the worst. But it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day

Very busy Chinese take away, food can be lush but more often sadly its not, also if you phone an order in be sure to know the amount as I've been over charged alot since its been taking over, low marks but its close and I give them chances lol way to many!

Used them once it took them 2 hours for my food and didn't even apologize when it come when I actually eat the food was ok but wouldn't use them again!

Waisted £49 the chicken and prawn balls where dry and greasy had been refried the Cantonese sauce was unedablr tasted like cheap catering ketchup and the mushrooms where rubbery the rice was ok so was the noodles will not be buying from there again felt like I had reheated stale food

Shocking food and way over priced. The prices have went up so much in recent months. Service in side isn't the best as one bloke doesn't say hello unless he answers the phone. The only Chinese around here which is lucky for them as I would go elsewhere. Not the best which it was in the past

It's normally ok from here, but the last one wasn't so good. We didn't order for a while then ordered one tonight omg it was foul chips were defnatley from yesterday, even the dog wouldn't eat them, the noodles were so greasy. It was a waste of money. I'll never ever go there again.

Usually decent food from here, but since it's changed ownership it's been discussing, chowmein with no taste, hard chips...been going here for 27 years, after tonight's meal which I've just put in bin, I won't be using tongs again.

The best chinese (not just takeaway) ive ever had. This is the dogs b******. If you go anywhere else in the west end you are mad. Go to tongs. End of.
