Great fish and chips the best in town

Is the fish and chips meal halal? And the sauces as well? Do they contain alcohol or gelatin? Just wanted to know before trying as I have heard really good reviews about the place. ☺️

First time I've ever been as my mate recommend it and drove from bury to try it. I will be back for sure.

Decent little fish and chips purveyor. Also sells related items, including Irish curry sauce. No, I don't know either, so I'm going to go back and find out. Highly suggest you do as well - stuff the diet and treat yourself, you are probably worth it.

Integrity matters! Tommy's Fish & Chips delivers on their promise. I was relieved to find a place that I could trust during my visit in England. This is indeed traditional English Fish & Chips - fresh, wholesome, natural, huge portion and delicious. I was impressed with the quality of the food, the value for my money, the efficiency of the service, the professionalism of the staff and the ambiance of the restaurant. I rate Tommy's Fish & Chips 5 stars. I highly recommend that you try their food.

Had pudding chips n gravy. There was loads chips to go with the pudding and gravy. Everything was piping hot and just what I wanted. Well recommended visit.

Normally very nice, but this time chips undercooked , some hard and very dry inside, fish and fishcake just about warm, and the curry sauce you could have scooped out of the carton, might have to try somewhere different !

i would like to know why the prices are not coming down, they went up when gas and electric went up but not coming down now gas and electric has come down by over a 33%. we are being ripped off.

Proper chippy! Thank you for your great service. I only came in for chips and gravy this evening after visiting a chippy down the road and being unable to even eat their food. When I came in Tommy's you were all really friendly, made me feel welcome and the food was nice, fresh and hot. How it should be.

Great Cod and chips... unfortunately, no Haddock but I was not disappointed. Really enjoyed my meal. Excellent customer service and efficient, friendly crew. Highly recommend. I'll be back as Arnie once said!

Friday fish and chips. Ordered delivery. It came quickly. The chips were still hot and emitting steam when I opened the container but they were very greasy with zero crispiness. The potato was cooked on the inside but I wasn’t impressed with them. The fish was slightly greasy. I’m not sure what it was. Slight crispiness on the skin but the fish itself was a bit soggy and not great in quality. It wasn’t terrible but again I was slightly disappointed. Peas were okay, again not bad but not great. The curry English and Chinese curry sauce did enough to make it more edible. All in all it’s a 2.5/5 for me.

Used to be great but since started doing deliveries food is rushed. 50 percent of the time the chips aren’t cooked and still hard in the middle. Shame

I'm not a regular user of chippies these days because I have to watch my waistline but now and again I do get the urge to have a right good chippy dinner and where else is better to tantalise my taste buds than Tommy's. If driving 6 miles isn't enough to show how good it is what is. On my latest trip I indulged in a great (superb) portion of chips with cheese and onion pie smothered in that gorgeous Irish curry. Chips cooked to perfection, good portion and all piping hot. Well satisfied only one problem though I felt to full to get up on that roof I was working on, thank god its peeing down.

Something went wrong with the delivery so everything was cold, 2 portions of cold and soggy fish and chips wasn't what I expected and after microwaving I wish I'd just thrown it in the bin. Will be avoiding from now on.

Don't bother. Just ordered 2 lots of fish and chips by deliveroo. Only received 1 fish and chips we had to split it between 2 refunded fir 1 portion but not the point we wanted the food!! Really small fish between 2 wish not bothered and should of refunded delivery charge too. Not happy will have to order from somewhere else now as 1 portion between 2 not enough! Unhappy with service how can you get 2 portions wrong??

Cost to much and you only get half a fish but you pay for a full one

Fish and chips from Tommy's are absolutely the best. You can't buy better anywhere else. The one negative: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ensure that you regulate the covid rules. The last time I went in a couple were waiting inside for their order and neither of them were wearing masks!! The, very large, man turned around coughed directly at me then turned back to the woman with him and told her that he had coughed at me. No apologies. The man and his companion were still outside the shop when I got outside I thanked him for coughing at me to which he replied 'well you are wearing a mask' well thank God that I was.

We’ve ordered and collected food from Tommy’s quite regularly this year and have never had an issue. Today (Friday 23rd) my partner made an order over the phone and went to collect it. When we arrived home we saw that there was only one lot of fish and chips instead of two. He rang back and mentioned this over the phone, the woman who answered the phone was not apologetic at all and started arguing with my partner saying that she took the order and it was only one lot of fish and chips. She then said that she would make another one for us to collect. When my partner went back to the shop as soon as he walked in the woman showed the receipt to my partner and said “look you haven’t paid for another fish and chips.” He said “I don’t mind paying for it but it was missed off the order and I’ve had to back come and get it.” She then said nothing and still no apology was offered. I was in the room when he made the order. He definitely asked for two lots of fish and chips. I understand that mistakes can happen but find it appalling that this member of staff offered no apology and started arguing over the phone. Then continued to be rude when he went back to the shop. That is not how you handle an issue whether you think that you are right or not. You have now lost a customer.

Best chippy in the land ! I travel from prestwich and eat it in my car quite often or sometimes if I’m with my hubby we eat inside very clean so worth it !!! Takes me right back to the original shop in Middleton where I used to go as a child tastes exactly the same very nostalgic for me great staff great food 5 stars from me 👌

We have been taking our granddaughter regularly for sit in fish n chips since she was a tot. Brilliant chippy, lovely staff and very clean dining room. Someone had put a review on stating the dining room could have been cleaner, but in my opinion, this is rubbish!

They have Vegan options!!!! Having been going to Tommy's since being a kid and it has been a staple of Heywood/bury for as long as I can remember. I turned vegan a few years ago and expected to never eat anything too exciting from a chippy again. I popped in for a portion of chips one day and asked about some ingredients and was surprised to see that some of the sauces were free from animal products. They even had a helpful sheet on the wall showing all ingredients for most menu items. I had chips, Chinese curry and peas. A weird combination but still glorious non-the-less. Would highly recommend on all fronts. Everything you want from a chippy. Staff were friendly, accommodating and non-judgemental. 10/10.

A classic Northern fish and chip shop where you stand before the fryer and wait for your meal to be cooked. The fish and chips are both perfect and generous portions (we share a bag of chips between three). The staff are friendly locals and swift, efficient service makes this an essential on Friday night when I visit. Tommy's has unconventional opening hours - perhaps local covenants on times - so it is not open late. There is a small seating area if you want want to tuck in immediately. They serve a limited number of drinks - only the familiar Lancashire chippy ones. There are plenty of takeaways in Heywood but this is the one that is essential to know.
