The Rake Tapas in Rochdale

First time visiting The Rake. We were looking for a local tapas restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. They were really accommodating when or numbers changed. We wanted a full evening out and that's what we had, lovely food and plenty of it. Served as it was cooked, no rush and great service for drinks. Two of our party chose the butchers board from the special menu. The steak looked amazing and was fantastic value for the food they received.

Words cannot describe. You have to try it. Absolutely delicious food! Massive portions and great for sharing! We will be back!

Driven past this place for years and finally went. It surpassed all expectations, the staff alone wer worth the visit, so lovely! Great atmosphere, gorgeous inside, great portion sizes and perfectly cooked! The king scallops wer my fav. Thanks so much can't wait to come back

Found this place by accident and honestly some of the best food I've had in years.

I have left my previous review underneath this one. We returned this evening as a treat for my special birthday as we thought we would enjoy the evening as much as previous visits, however, although the food was nice halfway through our meal I felt splashes of water then large drips came from the ceiling above me onto my hair clothes and meal. I had to move beside my husband from opposite as the water was coming quiet heavily. It ruined our evening and although we were offered my drinks for free I had to cut our evening short to come home change and shower as the water was coming from a bathroom above. I feel if this was my business I would have been more apologetic and wouldn't have expected my customer to pay £95 for a meal spoilt in this way. This time we will NOT be returning or recommending! Can't wait to go again! Friendly warm welcome and although we were early we were seated straight away. Ate from the tapas menu, great choice and everything was hot, fresh and delicious, big portions too (we were able to take home what we couldn't eat) The prices are reasonable and staff lovely, definitely recommend this place

The first time we have been to this delightful place but it will not be the last!! The food was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. We dis not realise how big the portions were! We were too full to finish it, which is unusual for us.. I would very highly recommend this wonderful place, as the staff are very welcoming, the ambience was just right and the food, well you just have to go and taste for yourself as it is so very tasty and delicious. Thank you to you all for a wonderful 1st time experience. We will be back!

Fantastic rooms and superb tapas. Easy access to the Pennines and buses and trains. We walked from Blackstone Edge to Hebden Bridge and then got a train back. It was lovely. Will go again and do more walking.

Great place for tapas, and there is always something extra on the special boards as well, only downside I could see was there was a shortage of parking we had to park on the street away from the restaurant apart from that I would highly recommend.

!!FOR CHIPPY NOT TAPAS!! Used to be a regular at this establishment, however on 05/04/24 paid close to £40 for small portion sizes and poor quality ( food was nearly cold). Previously would have recommended this food however portion size/quality does not reflect the price of 3 items being close to £40.

Highly recommended. Superb selection of tapas, friendly efficient service in ambient surroundings. We stayed in the accommodation upstairs, lovely rooms with many little extras. Breakfast the next morning was top quality, freshly prepared with local ingredients. Thank you

If you don’t mind waiting 2 hours for your meal ! We arrived at 6:30pm and ordered various tapas. Within the 1st hour the salad arrived then we waited another hour for the rest of the food. Exstremly disappointed as this place was recommended by a friend

Came for a break at 8 months pregnant which was initially gorgeous; room was stunning clean and had all ammenities, staff attentive despite us being 30 mins late, food exceptional quality and presentation. We changed our evening meal to 730, which ofcourse made me sleepy ( we were unaware that 4-5 freshly cooked meals take about 45 mins between each but no worries, they tasted great) we asked your server if we could take them to our room because of my visibly declining health & energy, they said no because "people make a mess". I can see the logic but if someone if so pregnant, tired & nearly passing out at your table then accomodations should be made. After paying £160 for a suite, extra for a meal and being pregnant, members of staff saw how visibly unwell I was and made no attempt to treat me as a normal, unwell patron offering no hospitality to allow me to take my meals I had paid for to my suite, giving the excuse "our boss said so". When you operate as a trader or service provider, pregnancy is a legally protected chacracteristic: The Equality Act 2010 calls this pregnancy and maternity discrimination. There was no health and safety reason for treating me differently, meaning you had no legal right to to deny me room service or treat me differently due to my pregnancy. I was given the option of "you can have a doggy bag tomorrow" What use is an evening meal, cold and a day late? I never saw a manager or had my concerns taken seriously or shown any inclination that there would be an attempt to make ammends. I hope your boss enjoys £200 from a working class family that couldn't get the full experience from your restuarant and rooms. It's shocking that this discrimination takes place in 2024. I have written a few public reviews warning others that If theyre pregnant, unwell, have a chronic illness or anything that prevents them from finishing their meal, the should avoid your business because from my experience you will make 0 accomocations for them. I actually doubt you even have first aid training at this point. This is a discriminatory business. We've since had to order a takeaway at extra cost to us. What could have been the most amazing little getaway with your many positives has been ruined by unsympathetic mangers who discriminate against anyone who isn't able bodied. It's 2024, do better.

Great food with a great atmosphere. Always top of our list when it comes to having a meal out.

Now I have found another gem . Great service the staff are great ordered a lot but perfectly spaced between several courses none rushed . Food tasty and plentiful very enjoyable will be back

I’m just editing my previous review as I can’t leave a new one? Tonights visit was equal or even better than the last time if that is possible. We were seated and watered immediately with our friends that we now regularly dinner date with, taking turns to recommend a place we have previously visited and are confident will not disappoint! The quality and quantity of the food was perfect as was the staggered time it was brought out and whilst we were all full, none of us felt bloated in anyway afterwards unlike previous Tapas meals!. Whilst we eat out mid week fairly regular this week place is definitely in the special meal bracket if thats what you require! Staff were engaging and proficient and also very welcoming also the owner was present which is always a sign of a good establishment I feel? Brilliant just brilliant, over ordered as usual but everything was gorgeous

Log fire needs a service, didn't give of any heat at all

Although I've Never Been Here I Love The Tale About The Laughing Cavalier.. This Building Looks To Be Grade 2 With So Much History.. It Sits On The Road Up To Blackstone Edge And I'm Sure It Has Many Story's From The Past ..The Food And The Rooms Look Fantastic And The Business It's Self Has Hosted Many Catering Events As It's Reputation Is Second To None .. Although The Building Is Quite Old It Looks Fantastic For It's Age And With One Legendary Ghost Story .. I Did Hear The Owners Where Leaving But I'm Not Sure If This Is True Although They Have Done A Tremendous Job Throughout The Time They Have Had Hear 🇬🇧💯

Had a lovely meal here for my birthday. It was really quiet but it was a very wet and cold Wednesday evening in November. There was a good choice and decent portion sizes. The staff were really friendly and polite. Definitely will go again.

Stayed on a Sat night in room 1, spacious, comfy & clean. Dined in the restaurant and food was fantastic, chicken skewers and garlic 9 chilli prawns were spot on and good choice of vegetarian dishes for my wife too. Breakfast on Sunday morning to the same standard and was great Thanks

Fantastic food ........ the best taps in the area

This is the second time we've been this Month, both times the food and service have been absolutely superb! Always a warm friendly welcome, very generous portions (for Tapas they are VERY generous!), and everything cooked to perfection, the slow cooked beef rib is a particular highlight. Can't recommend highly enough, if you've not been then you're missing out on one of the gems of Littleborough!

Arrived at open 5pm on Friday. All dishes were amazing, service was rapid. Staff and chef accommodating. Really great stuff.

OMG! What a gem. Visited tonight and the food was so good. Only a few times I had such good food in England. Wine wasn't bad either ha. Definitely going again. Met the chef afterwards and had a chat and he was so nice as well asexplaining all different elements on the dishes. Massively impressed.

Delicious food, absolutely massive portions.

This was a lovely place to eat and they even let our dog sit outside with us. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable and we should have listened to them rather than ordering too much. If you go then try the prawns, they are delightful. I think there was too much sauce with the beef ribs but that's personal taste. Overall this was excellent and we'll definitely go back again.

Right now, 2023, the food is better than it has been there and I've been going for years. Every dish is great.

Stayed here for one night, room was extremely spacious and full of character as well as being clean. We dined for dinner down stairs and the food was great, it was very busy so waited longer than we would’ve liked. Breakfast was included which was a bonus so top marks for that, all in all a pleasant stay. However, the toilet in our room was broken when we arrived with parts of it removed. Not sure the cleaner would’ve approved when she had to come and clean the room the following morning! 😑😂

We dined at The Rake last night for a family 70th Birthday and the service and food was exceptional. We ended up taking 20 tubs of food away with us because the portion sizes were huge so I'm looking forward to eating tapas for the next couple of nights. Highly recommend for big parties and you won't be disappointed with the quality of food that they served! Thanks to all at The Rake for being so accommodating.

Food is great, lovely place to sit out in the sun, they always manage to fit you in and the staff are excellent.

The food here was impeccable, could not fault it. Every single plate we had tasted delicious and was fresh. The service was ok, the staff where polite enough but when asked for a different lemonade because the one they gave was soda you would be waiting at least 20mins for another one. Same for bread or condiments or even knew cutlery to the point the food was cold by the time you got it. Really slow service. Also the atmosphere, we sat on a long table in the room to the left. All of a sudden water was gushing all over my dad from the ceiling. The staff just got a bucket and stuck it there. Then the waitress dropped a full tray of drinks for 7 people and it landed all on our feet. Felt like I was a water park by the end of the meal. It was a nice meal considering but I probably wouldn't visit again as this was a special occasion for my mum's birthday and it was a bit of a let down

Great spot to sit in the sunshine and enjoy a beer. But please get some parasols, we had no cover. Food was very good but the service was slow for food and drinks. Plus we had to chase 1 dish multiple times before finding out it wasn't actually on order. This was promptly resolved once this was cleared up.

Got a table at very short notice and the food was outstanding, both vegetarian and non vegetarian. But the beef ribs were something else 100% recommend

Left disappointed and won't return. A group of us had breakfast. The staff just looked so miserable that they brought our own moods down. The service was a poor standard, my impression of this being due to inadequate training being provided for the staff. Numerous amateurish errors were made, which should have been avoided and dampened our experience. The sausages tasted off; we mentioned this to the staff and were simply told "we order them in, they're okay" with no further response. Black pudding was missed and when eventually brought to the table, was plonked right in front of the the only vegetarian at the table (it was obvious she was vegetarian as she ordered the vegetarian breakfast). The experience as a whole, particularly for the price, was one that I will avoid again by ensuring that I never return.

Went on Saturday evening so was busy. Safe friendly but far too busy. The rest of my party loved their food, but I have had far better. Portions were large but too many coated and fried dishes on menu.

One of the best meals ever.. update 1st April 2022 - still the same, best meal within miles, great service. Ps. They've started doing breakfast now on a Sunday too!

What has happened to our favourite restaurant? We went for dinner on Sunday and we were so disappointed. The service was shocking except for one lady who we have seen working there before. We chose some coconut coated prawn skewers off the specials board. It was £14 for 9 overcooked prawns. Most of the prawn was stuck to the skewer. They were awful. The Rake has always been our special go to place but not anymore. We work hard for our money and we won't be wasting it eating there again.

Enjoyed a wonderful evening at The Rake Tapas last night. We arrived early and were warmly greeted by Giovanna who was a wonderful host throughout. The food was exceptional, in particular the beef short ribs, which were mouthwateringly tender (we could've eaten a mountain of them!) The Cava flowed all night and was finished nicely with a couple of carajillos. Great setting, amazing food and the very best, attentive service from Giovanna. Would highly recommend, graçias!

I have been here a few times, and the 40 min trip from where I live is always worth it! The food is to die for. Highly recommend.

The Rake Tapas, I have two colleagues who had never been before and discovered Rake's cuisine, they were captivated.

Heard a few positive comments about this place so thought we'd give it a try. We were not disappointed! Got a table at short notice. Decent variety of tapas options includung vegetarian choices for my partner and everything we chose was absolutely awesome. Friendly staff and a chilled out atmosphere. We'll definitely be returning. Had a lovely tapas meal with my family and 18 month old grandson. Stand out dishes were octopus, garlic prawns, meatballs and esp the tuna. Lovely staff provided really good service and we really enjoyed ourselves. Happy to recommend and we will be revisiting soon. Thank you guys

Waited 30 mins for part of our meal then another got fed up and left they came after us an we paid for drinks unfortunately we wont be going back!!!!!

Beautiful traditional Tapas restaurant, run by lovely people. We had a lovely evening, and only left because we physically could not eat any more. Excellent range of wine, and spirits, the pinnacle being Czech Budvar side pour beer in authentic glassware. The building is an amazing old stone house with an amazing fireplace creating the perfectly ambiance. We will be back!

Absolutely fabulous.Lovely atmosphere and the young staff were friendly and knew their stuff when questioned about the menu and wine list. The choice available on the menu is exceptional and the special board even better,Great portions which were drip fed to us over the evening so never felt rushed. It was a first date for my partner and I and we both look forward to a second date here soon

Best tapas in the area! We love coming to The Rake and recommend it highly to everyone, not only is the food amazing but the staff are all great and super lovely. The music and atmosphere are fab and what a lovely building - gorgeous experience from start to finish!

Unfortunately I felt very disappointed with the food and service..after ordering our food we were told nearly 15mins later they hadn't got what we ordered, then the food came with long intervals between dishes..the final bill came with charges for food we didn't even get 😕

Tapas were ok but mussels had sand on them so not been washed well before seeving

Lovely rooms with character. Well designed and excellently fitting into the historic ambient. The tapas restaurant as well as the breakfast can be well recommended.

5 star BUT….. I’m giving it a 5 star because I do highly recommend it and want people to share the good food they do there. The place it’s self is really really cosy, great deco, tables set out perfectly for groups of people to be able to share their tapas. My partner is Spanish and we had literally just arrived from a month in Spain eating tapas… they do have some absolute classics/ traditional tapas on the menu which we really enjoyed. But I always want to give a bit of feedback to help improve: we booked and asked for a table next to the fire, got there and a couple not even ordering food had prime spot 😭devastated. for £5 the bread needs to be really fresh not flaky and dry 🙊. each dish had a little side salad which I don’t think needed, we wasted half of ours to concentrate on the main dish. Lastly it’s splelt ‘Morcilla’ not morthilla 🙈 Hope the feedback helps guys, love the venue and the food was great, will be back again!

Great food and so much of it...

An absolutely fantastic Tapas restaurant - we've eaten here numerous times, often early evening after a nice stroll around Hollingworth lake to build up a suitable appetite. We sat outside on the terrace this time, which was very nice at this time of year and reminiscent of meals we've had at Port Olympic in Barcelona. The waitress brought out the specials board to us and given the extensive and imaginative choices on it we struggled to select just a few tapas to order. The dishes are light and fresh, not heavy and old fashioned like many other Tapas restaurants (that often only serve the tried and tested standards). We ordered some fish, meat and seafood dishes which were delicious along with a fresh salad and some bread for dipping. The wine list is excellent and there's a good by the glass selection too. We were so spoilt for choice with savoury tapas that we couldn't accomodate dessert. This is genuinely our favourite tapas restaurant in the north west of England (and we've tried most of them including the city centre stalwarts). The nice setting, proximity to the lake and atmosphere in the restaurant and terrace make for a really enjoyable experience.

Great choice of dishes, we over-ordered (as usual 🙄) as portion sizes are generous, but food was lovely and we took home the leftovers in a doggy bag, so tapas tonight as well! 😋 Service was friendly, attentive and helpful- thank u. Would have preferred a bit more light in our dining area, but very happy to recommend.
