It is unfortunate I have to write this review after being one of Tomari G’s biggest fans previously. We arrived Friday evening to extremely bad service and without half the menu available. The waitress basically ignored us for 20 minutes. When she arrived they had no Rose wine. When we went to order they had no sushi ! One of the main reasons we visit!! We then asked for Salmon Poke Bowl, this was not available, We asked what was available the answer was just Ramen. I have also had a few friends visit who expressed there concern on the lack of menu available recently. I understand that this has happened since they have been taken over. We visited when it was the previous owners and it was amazing. My advice, try somewhere different. Nagomi in Cheltenham is amazing so we will be visiting that restaurant instead In future.

Let me just start by saying the food was delicious and we had absolutely zero complaints in that department. The customer service on the other hand left a lot to be desired. We waited 40 minutes to have our order taken, we then waited another 20 for our drinks to arrive. The food arrived a short time after. Once we had finished (I was still chewing my last bite) someone was already coming to clear the table (shame they weren’t so speedy to take our order). We were then asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, to which we said yes please. Which was followed by “well you need to choose quickly because we’re closing”. So we quickly chose desserts, only to be told the kitchen had decided they were not doing anymore food. We were presented with the bill less than 2 minutes later, followed by the waitress marching over with the card machine. I’ve never felt so rushed in all the places I’ve eaten out. We called at the beginning of the week to book the table and they booked us in for 8.15 and then left us unattended for 40 minutes. I have worked in a kitchen before and never would the kitchen close part way through a booking even if it meant staying late. There were other people eating in the restaurant and the staff were putting the chairs up onto the tables whilst the poor people were eating. Not to mention whilst I was eating my main they were bringing the recycling through the restaurant. Non of the staff seemed to know what was going on or who ordered what. Our waitress told us there was no one on the bar. The whole experience was such an anticlimax, such a shame as the food and location are brilliant. Shame the service doesn’t match!

We’d heard great things about this place so we were excited to try it out with friends who had been before. Awful service by staff who didn’t seem to have a clue. Three different people tried to take our order and they still got it wrong. No sushi as it was the sushi chef’s night off, you might want to mention that on the website. Beers ordered didn’t arrive and then turned up warm when we asked again. One of our meals didn’t arrive with the rest. One of the waitresses was quite rude when we asked for jasmine tea. Chipped tea cup and I couldn’t summon anyone to bring me another cup. To be fair the food is alright but it was so loud at one point we couldn’t hear each other and when we had finished the meal they only cleared half the plates, didn’t offer dessert and then started cleaning energetically around us at half nine when we were the only remaining guests and they wanted to close. Maybe Monday is an off night, our friends said they’d had a much better experience on their last visit but we’d need some persuasion to return.

We were recommended this restaurant by the very nice man in the chocolate shop. He said the Ramen was ‘the best’. He was right. We loved the authenticity of the restaurant and it was very hard to choose from the selection on the menu, it all sounded great. I had the Ramen and My friend had the Rice bowl and we had the Gyoza’s Everything was absolutely delicious. A mention must go to all the lovely staff too who have exceptional skills in customer service and were absolutely brilliant. You must visit.

Just the worst customer service we have received in a restaurant, and such a shame as we have been here many times, and the food is always great. It has put us off returning sadly! There is no excuse for rudeness and ignorance when customers are paying for (what should be) an enjoyable experience. Credit to the young staff who were doing their best that evening.

My friends and I went to Tomari-Gi for the first time on a Tuesday evening before a gig at the Subscription Rooms (literally a 30 second walk away!). It may have been because of the concert, but it was really packed - so definitely worth making a booking! Living in Cheltenham we're spoiled with sushi places, but I can honestly say this trumped the likes of Kibou - hands down! The food was delicious, beautifully presented and really fresh tasting. We sampled pretty much all of the sushi options as well as a couple of starters. I'd definitely go back to try the Ramen too! Annoyingly I didn't get any pictures, but I think that's testament to how good it was in all honesty. One of the only critiques I would give is that it took a while to get side plates and drinks refills, but that is the most minor of things in the grand scheme - but if we were in a rush would have made it a bit more tricky!

Early Saturday lunch, earlier than we realised as my watch was 30 mins fast. The place has an informal funky vibe. Friendly staff, unhurried service. A dog flopped elegantly on the floor and stairs. Good selection of resident and guest beers. The Owa is mild, not too hoppy. Nice short menu. The waiter deterred us from over-ordering. Practice your chopstick technique... or for fumblefingers there is cutlery. We had the Poke bowl, me with tuna, OH without. The Poke was plenty for lunch. A big bowl full of fish n veg, there are some hot! notes to keep you awake.. We could have followed with Japanese pancakes... next time. There are also soups, more to explore. This is nothing like Chinese. No stodge. Jolly good, do give it a try.

So, my family and I were really looking forward to a nice dinner out together especially since they had enjoyed a recent visit so much and I do not visit the area often. We ordered drinks from a slightly bewildered looking waitress, and after about 10 minutes another bewildered waitress brought them over and proceeded to accidentally knock a glass of bright pink beer all over my mums shoulder, clothes, legs and the floor. Now, we all make mistakes and that’s fine but it’s what happened after that really took the biscuit. After a few nervous apologies from the waitress, we then had to ASK for someone to clean up the mess as they all seemed to quickly forget. Another less apologetic girl/ woman then attempted to wipe up the huge puddle with about two sheets of blue roll whilst claiming that she was “ really busy”…. We asked if they had a mop and they said that they didn’t ( weird but okay) so my mum and I then proceeded to help her clean the mess with bits of blue paper towel. My mum was absolutely soaked. Okay, we get over it. Food was average, nothing to write home about and the drink was quickly replaced. So, when we came to pay my dad highlighted the fact that we would require a discount off the bill due to the fact that my mums clothes were soaked through and nothing had been done to rectify the situation. We were then met with a laughable tirade of “ she’s only 17, it’s her first shift” etc etc and that we would not get a discount. Just to clarify, not once did we mention anything about the poor waitress, we just wanted some compensation for the inconvenience that had been caused and lack of attention to detail in terms of customer service. So anyway, manager is called over and he decided to reluctantly deduct the drinks from the bill- whilst this is happening, the loud mouth girl then goes down to tell her little waiter friends the situation and they all proceed to stare up to us in the restaurant and give dirty looks as if we have done or said something absolutely awful. When I asked the manager to address the customer service of his waitresses, the rude waitress then proceeded to engage in an immature back and forth about the waitress being 17 to which I told her that we did not care as it was not relevant. She was extremely rude, stand offish and quite frankly strange considering she was supposed to be ensuring the customers in the restaurant are well taken care of but I suppose this is what happens when you employ immature members of staff who haven’t had any customer service training and think it’s acceptable to argue with adults who are paying for a high quality service. I asked for her name, found it, and will keep it to myself due to the risk of being defamatory but just a little advice for those behind the scenes of the restaurant; your first port of call might be to a) get a mop or b) invest in some proper training for staff as it was extremely disappointing.

Really good food with reasonable pricing. Casual dining. Booking needed at weekends and note that they quite often seem to have bookings for the whole restaurant, meaning you need to understand when service will not be available beyond. They did clearly tell us on arrival, but just be aware.

Stayed at the Frocester George and ate in the dining room whilst walking the Cotswolds way. My room was lovely- room 12, relatively recently done I think with everything you could want. Spacious room, organic tea and coffee, small fridge with fresh milk in it (yay!!!!) lovely bathroom. The meal was delicious, and the breakfast great, including a wonderful selection of fresh fruit. Would happily return for another stay if I am in the area.
