We had the sharing board with 4 sides. It was excellent! The "Bombe" was a delightful and delicious dessert: just go ahead and indulge. The service was the icing on the cake. We'll be back!

Attentive, cheery service by Gabriel and crew for our large group made for a pleasant evening! The Salmon dinner was delicious, as was The Bombe dessert. Would choose to eat here again!

Came specifically for wagyu. Ordered a wagyu ribeye medium rare. Came medium-well. Asked for it to be sorted - told there was no more wagyu ribeye. Agreed to downgrade to a standard ribeye, took 15 minutes of waiting before I told them not to bother as we’d finished our sides by then, and my partner had finished her steak. Offered a take out box with the steak, declined it. Incredibly disappointed as this was for my birthday meal. Still charged over £80 for my partners meal, which was below average, but partner isn’t one to complain like I am. Manager said this was the best he could do. Photo of her tiny starter attached. Waiting staff were attentive, but service from manager knocked this well below average. Had one really amazing meal in the Newcastle branch. Second disappointing meal from the York venue. Can understand why it’s so empty by comparison. Close family also had disappointing meal after we got them vouchers thinking it would be as good as Newcastle. Won’t ever be back again, won’t recommend. Last time we’ll be in a Tomahawk now. I’m sure the venue will comment, but I’ve no interest other than letting people know to avoid.

Ordered a medium rare steak and it came out well done. Very long waiting time. For 40£ was expecting better. Was offered a discount for the mistake but didn’t receive it.

Went for a birthday and was so excited. Starters amazing. Mains came out with one side stone cold (like it had come straight out of a fridge) - sent it back with a very apologetic waiter, but a replacement finally came out once we’d both finished our meals. The waiters were beyond apologetic but the manager was unsympathetic, rude, condescending, unprofessional and took no responsibility whatsoever. We’ll NEVER go back again - great food, but beyond appalling service. For the prices, seriously you’re better going elsewhere.

This was a Birthday celebration for my partner. Although we enjoyed the meal, it wasn't perfect. Some of the steak was a bit chewy in the sharing platter and my partner was disappointed with the overall size. Probably because we are used to eating similar meals in the USA and compared it to that, which made us feel for the price wasn't the best value either! We were offered water for the table, and I clarified iced tap water, however, had we not specified I'm unsure whether we would have been charged for bottled water, which felt quite sneaky! I'm sure a lot of restaurants do this, however, it didn't feel right in my view! Sophia our server was lovely, very attentive and friendly. The restaurant was clean and tidy, with a good the atmosphere.

We went for the 3 course set menu. The food from start to finish was excellent, good portion sizes and seasoned exactly how we liked. The staff were very good at their jobs, attentive and efficient. We will be visiting again the next time we are back in York.

Brilliant food, gr8 service. Go here we had starters, sharing main and dessert + drinks. All brilliant.

Me &, my partner had a fabulous meal today. The service was fantastic & the server was so friendly & went above & beyond to look after us, & we never felt rushed, we could just sit chat & enjoy the atmosphere . Complements to the chef as all our food from starters to main course was just wonderful. You could taste all the different flavours in all the different sauces. The steaks were cooked to perfection. We were both dissopointed that we had no room left to have a dessert as we enjoyed our meals that much, but next time we visit we will make sure to leave room for dessert. Thank you all for making our visit so special, keep up the fantastic work.

Called in for the lunch menu I had the Shawarma parmo my wife had the 8oz flat iron steak.The food was amazing and the staff were very nice and helpful.Would definitely go again.

Great venue, food was lovely! Our sharing board came out wrong as ordered medium rare and was medium well, no problem getting it changed and the staff couldn't be more apologetic. Once it was served again it was worth the wait. Would definitely return.

Great to take the opportunity to visit here during Restaurant Week. Great steaks as expected and loved the cocktails. My husband noted that his cheesecake was quite hard as if it had not long been out of the freezer or fridge. Beautiful texture crème brulee but could've done with more Bailey's as couldn't really taste that element. Overall very enjoyable though and I did have food envy looking at other tables with their onion rings which looked fab!

Had great food, brisket filled Yorkshires..portions for that dish were great. Service was slow ...but they kindly gave the desert for free as a sorry.. Which u thought was great as we weren't in any rush and didn't even worry about the wait .. servers were polite and did a great job imo.

Interior is gorgeous and menu is great, food was so tasty (when it originally came), from being seated to being served was well over an hour. The chilli margarita is a massive highlight though!

Price had changed from Internet info, wanted to charge new price, had to have a word!

Our first visit was atrocious and we said we would never go back. A dry watery Sunday roast but 2 years later we have gone back as was chosen by someone else ! Parmo was so overcooked the vegetarian burger was like cardboard. Chateaubriand was cooked lovely I will last that but for the money it was not good value. Sides etc especially when there neighbour is much tastier. Portion sizes were not consistent on other meals and there wasn’t much service we had to find them for drinks. And waited so long for our meals. Overall please go somewhere else I wouldn’t waste your money here.

Ordered steak from sharing board and they Served us burnt steak they placed steak on the board burnt side downwards to try hide it , Still had to pay for the steak which I feel is not fair as 3/4 of it was completely burnt on one side should have taken it off the bill But Staff were amazing and apologetic!

Very mediocre food for the price. We once dined at tomahawk at another location a few years ago and thought it was I little rubbish for what you pay for it. So we thought we’d try again at the York restaurant and sadly our opinion is still the same. There are much nicer places to eat in York. The staff were very friendly though.

Food was delicious and our waiter was very friendly and accommodating, the only negative is that we were not offered a desert menu and instead were brought the bill by a different staff member without us indicating we were ready to leave. We had only just received more drinks and were looking forward to trying a desert but felt like they wanted us gone. It was a very disappointing end to an otherwise enjoyable meal.

Orderd 2half parmos when they came they were charcoal absolutely black certainly couldn’t eat them sent them back for the next ones to be not much better my wife got didn’t pay for hers but with sides and drink £60 for a ruined meal certainly will not recommend for parmos we will not return shame really as teeside restaurant we had the same food few weeks ago parmo was perfectly cooked

I have a few intolerances and this place was great I had steak and fries and I was okay with it! It was also the best steak I’ve ever had and cooked perfectly. The service was amazing because of my heart I did get a bit unwell (it is normal for me after I’ve eaten) the staff was amazing and helped me with what I needed and made sure i was going to be okay. Overall a great place and I would definitely come back!

Nice. Surprisingly huge inside. Wasn't so keen on the exposed filament LED lamps, but of course they're a common gimmick/unpleasantness in many commercial premises. Food good enough to make you want to go again. Felt expensive for what it was and atmosphere is more like posh cafe than posh restaurant.

Not visited here before but my husband booked it . We went for tomahawk steak sharing platter which came with 4 classic sides. The onion rings were amazing 👏 The steak was OK! It was quite fatty for me but my husband enjoyed it. Beef dripping chips definitely recommend. Service was spot on, attentive but not over the top.

Just unfortunate with the timings. Magic was our waiter, and I've got to admit he was a blessing to deal with: great character, very kind, well spoken. The issue for which I would give 3/5 stars is mainly the timings. I assume the kitchen was understaffed or overworked, because we had to wait 1.5h for the food. The service was very good, as they treated us to drinks, which I appreciate, but my late lunch was so delayed it turned into a dinner. Food-wise I would say not bad: my Ribeye was perfect. For the price, I was expecting some other meats I tried from my mates to be better, especially the pork loin. It felt dry and chewy. Also, due to the delay, I presume, we were about to be served the dessert (toffee sticky pudding with ice cream) before the main course. It went back into the kitchen, and I take that it was stored in the fridge for it not to melt, because when it came back half an hour later, the caramel was rock-solid (couldn't lift it off the plate) but the ice-cream was half melted.

Visited the tomahawk last year and decided to revisit again this year. Unfortunately the service wasn't as good as last years was. Waited a long time to get the bill.

We visited Tomahawk in half term with our daughter. Service was brilliant from start to finish. They couldn't do enough. Kept drinks topped up and made sure we were fine. Ordered starters, main course, and puddings as well. The starters were all great, the garlic bread with cheese was much bigger than we were expecting!! My husband and I ordered the Chateaubriand, which was lovely. The chips were amazing aswell. Our daughter got a rump steak, which she really enjoyed. The puddings looked amazing. My daughter had the tomahawk bombe for pudding, which she was super excited about. The only note on the puddings is that the honeycomb used in the tomahawk bombe and on the cheesecake was a bit overcooked and bitter. Didn't distract from the overall brill time we had. Best service and food we had whilst we in york!

Food was delicious and hot. The service was fantastic, they were friendly and polite. Well worth the money.

We 2 girls ordered a sharing platter The portion size is a little too much The steak was ordered medium rare. We thought it was a little over done, more like 7. It tastes a bit dry, but overall the taste is okay.

Got seated, food and drink order was taken and was left for an hour. One order of drinks were served but had to enquire with waiting staff for everything else. Was then left another 10 minutes before being told that they had forgotten to put our order through! In the time we were sat there every staff member walked past us at least once, not one person asked us if we were still waiting for food and the front-of-house staff didn't even apologise. The only apology we received was from the waiter. No attempts were made to resolve the issue. People were coming in, being seated around us and were served within minutes. You’d think that common sense would prevail given that all the staff walked past numerous times. Luckily we were able to eat at Valhalla, even with the short notice! I would advise to miss this place completely and save your money. Go to Valhalla instead. Would give a 0 if i could but had to leave a 1 star review as a minimum.

A 1st visit here tonight and what a surprise we had! We have walked passed this place many times when we come to York so tonight, I decided to book a table for me and my wife, and boy I’m glad I did! The quality of food is superb! Hot, very tasty and just fabulous! The service was excellent, prompt food delivery and the staff were lovely! A BIG 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from us! Thankyou guys!

Our first meal here, and it definitely won't be our last. The food was fantastic and our table was operated by a guy called Magic, he made this experience at this restaurant even better. My only negative is the automatic added service charge that we were told by a member of staff that it goes into the company coffers and not directly to the staff, so we took that off and gave the staff cash directly

Extremely disappointed with the whole experience, service was poor, took over an hours to get a starter and then another hour to get the main and when the main course eventually arrived the 8oz medium rare rump steak was burnt on the outside and very dry. Wouldn't recommend this Steakhouse there are far better ones in York.

My family, friends and I have eaten here many times over the past year and can't recommend the place highly enough. Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere and wonderfully polite staff. Reasonably priced for the quality too.

Food is very good but the staff need better training

I’ll start this review with the one negative that I could list about the place - unfortunately we had a 1 hour wait for our food. That being said, our server (a man named Magic), was absolutely impeccable and made our experience wonderful. He even provided a complimentary wine to make up for our wait and ensured that we felt taken care of throughout our time there. His positive energy was infectious. The food was unbelievably good. I would say that the tomahawk steak was the best I have ever eaten and the sides that came with the sharing platter were also 10/10. This more than made up for our wait and I would highly recommend this place to anybody visiting York.

Lost a bit of its spark the 2nd time around. Small lobster between two and cold food. They gave us a good deduction from the bill, so fair play, but such a shame that it never lived up to our 1st visit, which was simply amazing.

Myself and my other half booked a meal at Tomahawk Steakhouse on the 11th January to mark our anniversary and it was absolutely fantastic. We arrived 15 minutes early but still seated us quickly and without issue. The atmosphere was lovely and the Ribeye steak was cooked to perfection. We shall be back!

We called in on a Sunday evening about 6.15pm. We asked for a table for 2. We were told they had no availability. We could see a lot of tables upstairs and down stairs that were unoccupied. We left and will not be returning.

This restaurant is very misleading from the outside and is huge on the inside! Lovely decor and environment. Service was great initially very attentive. We were going for a sharing tomahawk so opted to share a starter which was delicious. The tomahawk was well seasoned and we opted for macaroni cheese, beef dripping chips, fries and onion rings as our sides with beefy gravy. It was good. I was just a bit disappointed with the chips as I’d been salivating over them on Instagram! They weren’t crispy. I felt the service then tailed off towards the end of the meal and we had to attract attention to get the bill. Overall it was a good experience.

Really disappointing visit, especially considering all the stellar reviews! Went for the Waygu sirloin (pictured), and left it to the chef's discretion as to how it was best cooked, but it was cremated beyond belief. Very tough. We also ordered a regular sirloin steak and that came out similarly tough, despite asking for medium rare. A shame really.

Had the 8oz rump no taste it was so bland onion rings were covered in a thick batter which were so greasy expected more for the money won't be returning in a hurry

I recently dined at Tomahawk Steakhouse and had the pleasure of enjoying their Ribeye Wagyu F1 steak, paired with a glass of Alfie Cabernet Sauvignon, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes as sides, along with a peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection—tender, juicy, and bursting with natural flavor. It didn’t need a hint of salt, pepper, or sauce to enhance it; the quality and preparation spoke for themselves. This was, without a doubt, the best steak I’ve ever had and fully worth the price. The Alfie Cabernet Sauvignon was equally impressive. Its rich, full-bodied profile paired beautifully with the steak, complementing its flavors without overpowering them. The sides of mushrooms and cherry tomatoes were fresh and well-prepared, offering a delightful balance to the meal. While the peppercorn sauce was excellent, the steak was so perfectly cooked that it stood on its own. If you're a steak enthusiast or just someone who appreciates exceptional food and wine, I highly recommend visiting Tomahawk Steakhouse. It was an unforgettable dining experience that set a new standard for me.

Service was excessively slow - wish we had left earlier without waiting as long as we did. I know it's Christmas Eve, but proper planning and staff allocation should have easily solved the backlog of orders. Twenty minutes wait for a draft beer and a cocktail should have been the clue... A 55 minute wait for main course, and another 20 minute wait for the bill. The food was outstanding, but did not justify the excessive wait time. Save yourself the stress and go somewhere else instead.

Wow, where do we start! We have eaten at a lot of steak restaurants across the country, but this place by far takes the top spot! Service amazing, food incredible. Special shout out to our servers Magic and Ryley, they both went above and beyond to make our visit great. Couldn’t recommend this place enough if you are in York!

My wife booked a table to celebrate my birthday, but unfortunately, our experience did not meet expectations. When we arrived, there was no staff at the reception, and we waited for ten minutes before being seated. Once seated, we discovered that many dishes, including several meat cuts, were unavailable. This was especially disappointing for a grill house. Furthermore, the staff did not inquire about allergies, and my wife was served a burger with pickles, which she is allergic to. Thankfully, she spotted them before eating. After ordering, we waited an hour to be served without any explanation. While the food was tasty, the lack of service was concerning. The restaurant was cold, the music too loud, and the staff seemed overwhelmed. Given the high prices, limited menu options, and long wait times, I regret to say this was not the experience we had hoped for.

I booked this place to celebrate my husband's birthday. When we arrived, no staff were at the reception, and we waited for ten minutes. When someone finally arrived, we were seated, and at the moment of ordering what we selected from the menu, many options (ten of the dishes) were unavailable, especially the meat cuts. This was very disappointing because it is a grill house, and you don't expect them to run out of several dishes listed on the menu. Additionally, when the staff took our lack-of-option selection, no one asked us if we had any allergies, which is concerning since I have an allergy to certain types of food, specifically pickles. I ordered a burger, and although the ingredients were not specified on the menu, I was surprised to find pickles stuck to the bun of my burger. I was fortunate enough to spot them before eating. After we ordered, we had to wait an hour to be served. As an adult, I wouldn’t mind waiting that long, but we were with our little daughter, who, at that moment, was very hungry. They didn’t give us any explanation for the lengthy wait, and they could have offered us some nibbles while we waited. On a positive note, the food was really tasty, but the place lacked good service. It was cold, the music was loud, and the service (even though the waiter was very lovely) struggled to attend to all the customers, as I observed on my way to the toilet. It’s pricey, the waiting times for everything were excessive, and above all, they hardly had any of the dishes they advertised. I wouldn’t recommend this place for spending your money. Called in for a special occasion lunch, and settled for the namesake, the huge Tomahawk steak, it's not cheap at £79, but remember this is a sharer, with 4 amazing sides, and trust me the sides make it. The cheese, bacon hashbrown side, is a meal on its own. The steak was beautifully cooked, slight charring on the outside and still pink in the middle
