We came here for Sunday lunch on day 3 of opening. The renovation has been done to a high standard and the atmosphere was perfect. There was a Saxophonist playing in the background which was lovely to listen to whilst having our food. The Sunday lunch was delicious and the beef was cooked to perfection. Staff were wonderful and it was good to see Adam FOH making the whole experience a positive one. We will certainly be returning ☺️

What a transformation- such a beautiful setting for a special meal with friends and family. Very high end. Fantastic welcome from Adam and his team and excellent service throughout. Sunday lunch was fantastic and we will definitely be back. Enjoyed the piano and sax background music - almost felt like The Ritz. We only line in East Bridgford and will definitely be back! Well done Reddington Pub Co ☺️

Wow! Tom Browns has really upped their game. I love the terrace, and they’ve even opened a lovely new bar outside! Then when you go in they’ve completely changed the inside. The ambience is so much nicer, and we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The food was 5* and I think it’s the best steak I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back, especially now they’ll be having more events/bands on. Loved every minute, thank you Adam and team

I have to say that my wife and I were so, so impressed with the new Tom Browns. We’ve been waiting for this restaurant to open for months and it really has not disappointed. The vibe, music, friendly staff and the stunning art deco feel really made it a top notch experience…and that’s all before the food was served! Front of house were warm and welcoming, our waitress was attentive and couldn’t do enough for us, and during our meal the manager came over to speak to us and find out about us, which was a nice touch. We had the scallops to start and the chateaubriand for main which were both mind-blowingly good. We were too full for desert, but the selection of whiskeys as a substitute more than made up for it for me! Opening weekends are notoriously tough (particularly with two opening at the same time!) and the sheer volume of customers wanting to experience something new can put a strain on things, but I have to say that the guys did a brilliant job - it will only get better and better. We’ll definitely be coming again soon. It is brilliant. Well done 👏🏼

So thrilled that it’s finally open. I went a few times this weekend with friends and was blown away by the transformation it’s simply stunning. To add the icing on the cake Adam is such a fantastic host, incredibly welcoming and very attentive going out of his way on a very busy opening weekend to find us somewhere to sit and enjoy the atmosphere outside on the terrace in the sunshine. All the staff were great and I can’t wait to go back and try the food which looked incredible. Congratulations everyone 👏

So we were excited to try this renovated restaurant and ahead of arriving checked the dress policy which states on their site.. "We politely favour a glamorous dress code. To avoid disappointment, please refrain from wearing any sportswear (smart trainers are permitted), hoodies, shorts and beachwear." .. So after much deliberation about what to wear to avoid being over/underdressed we were surprised when we got there to find many people wearing shorts/hoodies/trainers. Why post this on your website if you aren't going to enforce your own ruling and thereby leave people feeling very overdressed. When we arrived there were a mixture of rowdy drunk men in shorts and trainers and then other people in tux's. There was a mandatory £5 pp charge because there was live music on yet the table we were sat at, you couldn't even see the live music. In-between the band on stage there was extremely loud rhythmic thumbing music and I'm not exaggerating when i say we had to shout to each other to communicate. It was way way too loud! Not exactly what we had in mind. Also our table of 2 was on the end of a nook so we were forced to sit at a 90 degree angle to each other AND face and a table of 4 sitting across from us which was awkward. The food was very nice although portion sizes were small, the veg was rock solid and as nice as the food was, it was insanely overpriced. There was a mandatory service charge but i will say the waitress who served us was nice even if the service was very slow. We had to request a menu on arrival and the waitress twice forgot to give us our bill after requesting. This is fine though as its to be expected sometimes

We visited New Tom Browns in Gunthorpe on their opening weekend and were blown away by the whole experience. The setting is stunning – stylish, welcoming, and perfect for a relaxed yet refined meal. The food was absolutely top-tier. Every course was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. It’s genuinely impressive how smooth and polished everything felt, especially for an opening weekend! A special thank you to Adam, the manager, who was outstanding. His professionalism, attentiveness, and friendly approach made the night even more enjoyable. He made sure everything ran seamlessly and that every guest felt looked after. New Tom Browns has hit the ground running – we’ll definitely be back soon. Highly recommended

Upon arrival, we were greeted with silence—not even a simple "hello" from the individual we assumed to be the front-of-house manager. Not exactly the warm welcome you'd hope for, especially on one of the reopening nights of Tom Browns. We were then silently shown to our table, which was positioned uncomfortably close to the DJ. The music was so loud it felt more like a nightclub than a restaurant, despite it being only 6:30 PM and the venue nearly empty. The volume was unnecessary and detracted from what should have been a relaxed dining experience. As we made our way through the restaurant, we couldn't help but notice that the dress code we were under the impression was expected, clearly wasn’t being enforced. The four of us felt distinctly overdressed, leaving us confused about the standards communicated at booking. Service was slow, despite the restaurant being far from busy. It took a considerable amount of time before anyone approached us for drink orders, and later, our food. While both the waiter and waitress who served us were pleasant, it was clear they were unfamiliar with the menu. One would assume a level of training would have been in place for a reopening weekend. Additionally, we were never asked about any dietary requirements or allergies—a basic and essential protocol that was entirely overlooked again has management trained their staff? Before our food even arrived, a waiter returned with a plate, only to realize it was dirty. While we understand these things happen, combined with everything else, it further reflected a lack of organisation. In a quiet restaurant, these oversights shouldn’t be occurring. As for the food: it was, to be fair, tasty. However, the portions were surprisingly small. We ordered sharing dishes intended for two, but all four of us agreed the servings were more suited to one. Dessert was a mixed experience. We ordered two chocolate domes, which were supposed to come with hot chocolate sauce. Instead, they arrived with toffee sauce that was barely lukewarm. The waiter stood awkwardly pouring it, clearly hoping it would melt the dome—it eventually did, but the temperature was off. Again, a small detail, but one that matters. To finish, I asked for a decaf flat white, only to be told—after some delay—that they didn’t have decaf coffee. This reinforced the impression of underprepared staff and poor management oversight. I switched to tea, which was served without a saucer and accompanied by a water glass full of sugar. There was no designated place to put the used tea bag, and I was unsure whether to use the sugar glass for my spoon, risking cross-contamination. Meanwhile, my father’s cappuccino was served with a saucer, further highlighting inconsistency. I understand this review is detailed, but it’s written in the hope that this feedback will be t aken constructively. We genuinely want to return in the future, once the teething issues have been addressed and staff have been properly trained. Tom Browns has potential—we just hope it’s realised soon. Most importantly we would like to highlight the service we were welcomed with. The silence was deafening and peculiar. Whoever this FOH member was has much room for improvement with their service, especially if they are management….

We were very excited to go to Tom Browns after the renovations, we booked Sunday lunch on opening weekend. First impressions the place is beautifully done up, though the air con was turned on and it was very cold inside. I had requested high chairs on the booking but when we got there we were told they’d have to borrow some from next door which felt a bit disorganised. There was no kids menu, so if you are taking little ones just be mindful of that. My 2yo ended up eating a side of fries. The food was nice, though all of the veg was extremely hard. You don’t get a choice with how the beef is cooked, it comes med/rare. We were given the wrong sauce with our puddings, the sticky toffee came dry and the toffee sauce for those was poured on the chocolate bomb. There was no chocolate sauce that is described on the menu. When we told the server we were told that it was right and that the chef said the sauce is ‘chocolate toffee’. I’m pretty sure we were lied to, we do all have tastebuds, so it felt a bit like we were gaslit which I really didn’t appreciate. We weren’t looking for any money off or anything, it was more out of curtesy we said anything just so it wouldn’t happen to another table. The staff’s lack of knowledge of the menu was very obvious, it was opening weekend but I would have assumed they’d be taken through the menu and offered to try things, so that was also a bit disappointing. Overall, I don’t think we’ll be back for Sunday lunch, but will perhaps try an evening menu for a date night! In a couple of months as it feels they need time to iron a few things out.

We had lunch here at Gunthorpe and was very disappointed. My mother and my wife had steak pie with a sauce that tasted like disinfectant. I had the fish and chips. The fish looked grey and also tasted funny. We mentioned this to our waitress and she apologised and offered us a free dessert or drinks. We ordered coffees. Not the waitresses fault she was very nice and did her best. This was the last meal I had with my mother before she passed and thank the chef for making it memorable for the wrong reason. We were a bit disappointed with our recent visit. I have been going to Tom Brown's for years and have had some wonderful meals there. This time, we left early due to a few reasons. •Our drinks (Aperol Spritz) were a bit watery compared to others we've had. •The staff seemed a bit inexperienced. •My steak came out well done on one end and rare on the other. The steak had a lot of salt on it, to the point of it not being a matter of opinion, It must have been seasoned 4-5 times. •The truffle fries were just regular fries (also very salty) with truffle mayo. I would expect more from a £5 bowl of chips. I ate the food because I was hungry and didn't think the replacement would be much better. We had planned to spend the night there but after the issues we had experienced up to this point. We decided to cut our losses and move elsewhere for the night.

We used to visit Tom Brown’s quite frequently and looked forward, after a long gap, to returning. The service was pleasant and professional but when our order arrived, the vegetables were seriously undercooked to the extent that our knives couldn’t cope with the broccoli florets and green beans. We mentioned this to our server who passed the message to the kitchen and we were told the coffee we ordered would not be added to the bill. This was some redress but how much better our meal could have been.

They gave us options and helped us choose which area of the restaurant to sit in and how to best lay out the seating, and it was easy to pre-order our food (and add-on extra desserts on the day). Been to Tom Browns before, years ago now, but had good memories and decided to revisit to celebrate my husbands birthday. Unfortunately I have to say that I left this time completely underwhelmed and will probably not be returning. What was once a venue that felt a bit like a special treat is now essentially just another gastro pub. It wasn't one bad thing, but just lots of little disappointments that left a rather 'meh' feeling - being presented with a different menu to my partner, the steak I ordered rare coming out med/ well done, the triple cooked chunky chips that come with the meal coming out as a bowl of fries, the red wine jus being soooo salty I couldn't eat it, the pie being a shallow ramakin with a puff pastry lid, the general décor being tired (ripped wallpaper) and the WIFI down so paying was done by keying in all my details into a machine against an email to confirm the booking. Like I say none are massive issues that couldn't be solved...but enough to make me leave this review and suggest anyone with a memory of how it was, to lower your expectations.

Went for lunch. Lovely outdoors seating area, looks quite fancy. The food price was very reasonable for a menu that on the surface looks fancy. I would have given the food a 5 due to value for money but it lacked any seasoning and frankly, taste. Due to the price, I'm not expecting fine dining seasoning but could they have spared some salt and pepper? There was none. The real problem I had was the service. The staff were lovely, but the service was slow. We sat for a while waiting to get even a menu before deciding we would go and get one ourselves. I ordered some beer and water when I ordered the food, but 25 min later, the food came and no drinks. A further 20 min in when we had finished the food, our drinks arrived. I saw other customers getting frustrated too. Some people had the orders quicker than others.

We had reserved a table for 4 at 7.30pm on 16/8/23 to celebrate my brother's 30th birthday, which we had disclosed when booking. We were seated promptly and the restaurant had 7 tables (including us) occupied. Drinks orders were not taken for at least 30 minutes. Food order was placed as soon as we managed to order drinks as we had made our decisions in this time. Our starters (2 plates) did not arrive until 9.15pm and our main dishes did not arrive until 9.30pm. Bearing in mind we had arrived for our reservations at 7.30pm. We quickly noticed that there was only 2 people on the shop floor, the floor manager and the waiter/barman - who appeared to be running tirelessly to attend to everyone's needs. There was no other staff on the restaurant/bar at all. We realised that all other tables were receiving slow service also and many complained and expressed their frustration. We had brought cake for the birthday milestone occasion, which appeared to have not been stored appropriately (despite asking to do so on arrival due to fresh cream involved) and it was basically half melted by the time we came round to it - which we needed to prompt to receive as by the time we finished dinner (we ate everything in 20 minutes as we were starving - I am 9 months pregnant and my mother who is in her 60s was also famished). I prompted that we required to wrap up soon because my brother is not from the region and needs to travel an extra hour to get home - this was why I booked an appropriate dinner time. Food was good but the service was very slow indeed. There appeared to have been a management issue as this surely could have been anticipated? Also, it would have been nice to have our extremely long wait acknowledged (by being more attentive, asking if we needed more drinks - especially since it was a very warm summer's evening), particularly as we were celebrating an occasion and the jovial mood rapidly evaporated as hunger and frustration took over. The hot summer evening meant that all doors were open, and flies became somewhat of a problem. Dishes were not cleared up promptly when groups left as there was no staff. This did not help with the already soured ambiance. Overall we spent 2.5 hours in the restaurant and we spent 35 minutes of that eating and the rest waiting. It was a real disappointment to celebrate a nice occasion. I'm sure this is not the standard but it has truly tainted our first impression of Tom Browns and I don't think that we will want to visit again for a long time.

Sadly dreadful. Sat at table 19:15, waited a while for drinks order, yet more time for food order. 19:40 starters arrived. 20 minutes later wave repeatedly to ask for another drink. Gave up waiting for main course at 20:55 and went home. Used to be such a great place.

Booked the brasserie for a lunch party for my sisters 30th. The setting is beautiful right next to the canal. The staff were so helpful with all of the booking, sorting high chairs in advance and taking our meal order. On the day, the food and drinks were great but again the service was exceptional, from the manager to our waitress. We had a cake delivered which was no problem and the waitress managed our table with no trouble at all even though it was boiling hot and we weren’t the easiest party as we had a few kids! Thanks so much to all for making it a special day.

Stopped for a couple of drinks. Looked very nice, menu was catering for a more upmarket visitor rather than a family for lunch.

Great food...Service between courses a little slow but went on a sunny Sunday afternoon so was busy as this could've been why. Helpful staff. Lovely area near the River Trent.

Booked for Sunday lunch and had to wait for our table 20 minutes with a half empty restaurant and a small toddler .. beautifully cooked lunch but ordered 5 desserts and after an half hour wait asked if they were coming to he told they had forgotten to put the order through.. service is very slow which is odd as there are many staff looking for something to do... 😳

By far one of the best meals I’ve had for a long time. The lamb was to die for. Creme brûlée a close second. Great location and service. Will defo be going again

Excellent food and drink. We both really enjoyed the meal. A quiet mid week lunchtime. However, the service was so very slow, particularly considering how few diners there were present.

Busy Saturday night. Place felt grubby and like a city centre pub. Drinks order taken by someone who clearly has never heard of the wines on the list. Had to go and fetch wine glasses after delivering the wine and then not enough despite there...

After sitting outside having a drink wrapped in the provided blankets (it was cold but sunny), we had a delicious Sunday roast in the restaurant. Definitely will return.

We needed a quick bite on Mother's day and everything was booked up. This venue let us have a table at short notice (prior to the booking turning up) where the one next door didn't (even though there was no one in there yet). Really friendly place and staff. Lovely food and service.

A lovely place with great food and friendly and helpful staff. Well worth a visit. Food was presented beautifully and was very tasty. The only downside was that we were repeatedly asked whether we wanted more drinks which became a little invasive. We all received a tiny bottle of gin, as we were all mum's on Mother's Day, and a 20% voucher off another meal before middle of May. What's not to like?! I hope to use my voucher soon 🥰

Large cup of Hot Chocolate with delicious cream is really large. Looks amazing. Location of Costa is good. Just next to one of main roads in Newark. Close to Mark and Spencer and close to BP petrol station. Small but new interior of cafe makes this place unique. It's not my last visit here. Will cone back for another cup of hot chocolate

Outstanding pub, with a great atmosphere, Haven't been in for years the pub used to be a bit of a dive but not so now. Wow! What a turn around. We called in to see some live music. Landlords Kerry and Paul have turned the place around. Fantastic. Clean new upholstery, spotless facilities, clean tasting beers. We had a cracking night.
