Very friendly staff, Japanese courtesy par excellence. The food is excellent: the salmon tataki is excellent, the udon noodles are very tasty. The sushi is fresh.

It's really worth its ratings! We've tried Japanese in many different cities. This one is really top quality!! We enjoyed everything that we tried!! Arigato!

Me and the whole family came here today after a day out visiting London. As Asian food is our absolute favourite food of all to eat we had a walk through china town to find somewhere nice to eat. After having a good look around and reading menus. We decided to give this lovely little restaurant a try. Even though this restaurant appears small inside. We sat down comfortably with 5 of us which included 3 children and a buggy. We was given complimentary tea, water and nibbles as soon as we sat down. We all ordered our favourite dishes to eat and our food arrived in around ten minutes. My daughter does not know how to use chopsticks but the server took the time to show my daughter which was fantastic. The food, well what can I say other than wow. The food was absolutely fantastic. The katsu curry was amazing. The chicken was perfectly coated with crispy batter and the chicken was so nice and juicy. The curry was amazing and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. The broth that the udon noodles was served in was also delicious. The sushi was also fantastic with really fresh fish. Our baby made a right mess with the sushi rice and was throwing it on the floor and our daughter accidentally knocked a bowl of the table and it smashed (we do really apologise for this) and I always clean up if our children make a mess. However they was insistent that I left it and they would clean up. Our baby loves sushi and he ate so much. I think the staff were even surprised to see a baby enjoying their sushi. It was an absolute pleasure dining in your restaurant today. We will definitely be back next time when we are in London. Thank you for the amazing food 😃

Really vibey restaurant with some nice touches (free rice tea, little snacks on arrival). Food is great. Service is good but they do rush you a bit.

One of my new favorite Japanese restaurants - we shared the Katsu curry and the Gyudon and they were both amazing! Downstairs can be packed but the upstairs is more chill and cozy. Unlimited rice and tea from the house just speaks volumes about their hospitality. ありがとう Arigatō!

It's an excellent place to eat. The food is high quality. The staff are lovely. The prices are fair. There is a no tipping policy, which is such a relief. The only detractor is it is quite small, quite small seats and some of the decor is a little tired - but I was very happy that didn't take the shine off the above excellent qualities

I visit Tokyo Diner every time I am in London, their pork katsu curry is absolutely fantastic, and the service is top-notch. Their tea is also great and you can have as much as you want. In true Japanese fashion, tipping is not required, and the price is always moderate.

I spent three months for work in London in 2017 and discovered this gem near Leicester Square. It’s such a homely spot - unpretentious, warm, and down-to-earth Japanese restaurant for a great chicken katsu curry. I definitely would recommend this. For big eaters, you can even request a bigger portion of rice when you order your food by mentioning “omori”. Eight years on, every time I visit London I always visit Tokyo Diner. Really a special spot.

Ordered the soba noodles which were pretty good and satisfying but overall ambience was lacklustre and service slow. But good as a place to pop into on the way home as opens later than the others.

As soon as you enter it seems to be in a typical Japanese ikazaya but unfortunately the cuisine was not up to par, generous portions but not of great quality

Came in and was seated straight away. Considering I only had limited time for my break, the food came super quick. I liked the little complimentary crackers and green time. Super cute touch. Ordered a Chicken Katsu Curry - it was without faults - the sauce was great, the chicken even in the sauce still stayed crispy, and the rice was perfectly sticky. Would have loved some gentle background music personally, because everyone ended up whispering and it felt a bit too calm. That’s just a tiny minor thing, but either way I will definitely come and visit again, preferably with a friend.

Delicious cuisine, very authentic! I ordered a kitsune udon and my girlfriend a curry, the dishes were delicious, I had never eaten such good udon noodles, I recommend. However the staff could be a little warmer but otherwise everything was perfect.

The atmosphere and food is very authentic feels like travelling to Japan. Love their sashimi salmon bowl if you are someone who loves raw fish.

Authentic Japanese restaurant, and reasonably priced

The Japanese version of Istanbul's characterful tradesmen restaurants in London. Hoso-Maki set Sushi, Sauce chicken Katsu don, udon +chicken garnish main course and age-dashi tofu and broccoli starters were great. Broccoli (brocolli ni bitashi) does not look like a tree like in other places, it is gentle and delicious.

A little piece of Japan in the heart of London. The staff speaks English and Japanese. Free green tea (including refills) and free extra rice. Try the katsu curry.

Sashimi was fresh except the tuna Sushi platter was okay, the selection of sushi wasn’t the best but the quality of salmon was high Udon was simple but delicious Sides: aubergine was okay, tofu was the best dish among the orders, crispy on the outfit and smooth on the inside, paired perfectly with the sauce Miso soup was not too salty👍🏻 Quick service and friendly staff :)

The large Chicken Katsu Curry meal was absolutely delicious and great value for money. The staff was incredibly helpful in explaining the portion sizes, and there were plenty of tables available, even on the weekend.

In the characteristic Chinese neighborhood, a typical Japanese place, in its environment and dishes, as well as in its manners and habits. Varied, typical menu original Japanese, everything of quality and well prepared. The typical Japanese tradition of not accepting tips is appreciable.

Good place to eat quality sushi, simple and cheap. The atmosphere reminds you of Japan. Around €15-20 per person, and it also includes free tea and nuts. I highly recommend ordering the sashimi😋

So happy we got to come back to this place where we had our first trip abroad back in 2005/2006. The food is still very good with rare quality given the low prices, even though Japanese food has become quite mainstream in the meantime.

Easily the best, most authentic Japanese food I have eaten outside Japan. The tonkatsu teishoku (pork cutlet set box) was rich and varied, and contained items many other, less ambitious Japanese restaurants would leave out. The place is small but not cramped, and the service excellent. The tasteful décor is something you could find in Japan, and not overdone Japonisme. It is a rare restaurant that leaves guests slightly disoriented upon leaving the place — why am I now suddenly in London? So complete was the immersion of tastes, visuals and sounds that I thought myself in Japan again.

What a lovely experience from beginning to end ☺️ They serve you hot green tea when you are seated at the table (I really liked it’s flavor and they even give you refills). The katsu curry was super delicious as well as the udon noodle soup. Their menu feels like it’s written by a friend, full of cute little tips and details about the dishes. Don’t miss this cozy japanese place! We will be back for sure

I had the chicken katsu don, portion sizes were generous and the service was excellent. The dish was slightly lacking in flavour and more expensive than alternatives but would still recommend for authentic Japanese meal.

We had to queue up during peak hours and waited for about 20 minutes. The waiters were all Japanese and did not charge service fees or tips, but the service was not sloppy. They provided a small plate of rice crackers and hot tea for free before the meal. I ordered soba noodles and sesame seeds. The spinach is delicious, and the price is very affordable in Chinatown, London!

Much respect to this restaurant for being the only place (that we found) that did not jack up its prices on Xmas day. Staff was very friendly and service was prompt. We ordered the curry udon and beef don which are both authentic and value for money.

Everything was absolutely perfect! We came across this restaurant by chance and pleasant surprise!! We recommend it with our eyes closed, the food was excellent, the waitresses very nice. He doesn't take cash but it's written on the door so no worries.

A fantastic little Japanese restaurant where the waiting staff speak Japanese, the food is authentic and very oishii... Tasty. Prices reasonable for this part of town, definitely worth a visit. Tips are not encouraged but if left are donated to St. Martin in the field homeless charity, which is lovely for the local community. Food is well presented, decent portions and friendly staff. I will definitely come again.

Tried the katsu don and the chicken katsu curry. While curry was okay, the katsu don was delicious. Portion sizes were handsome. The staff were friendly and provided prompt service. I'd love to go back and try some sushi next time.

I had lunch there yesterday and have been highly disappointed. The salmon bento was blend so where my soba needles and one of my guest had a tofu dish that was blend. Sad that hat the experience was not what I was expected.

Very quick and polite, efficient service. Food exactly as described and good value. We had Donburi and a Bento with teriyaki chicken. The soba soup noodles looked very popular, will try them next time.

This is my fourth time here and I usually order the oyakodon (egg/chicken rice) but I decided to try the katsu curry instead. It’s very authentic! I had some 5 pound salmons off cuts (worth it!), would always recommend the edamame. I want to go back tomorrow for more oyakodon lol

First time here. I had a salmon donburi. Unfortunately, the rice was too warm which warmed up to salmon. It was OK. I have had better. The decor was authentic and service was quick.

Tokyo Diner and Kiku (Mayfair) are the perfect duo in London for those who have had the chance to visit Japan and know what it’s like to have a proper good Japanese meal. Tokyo diner is much more affordable, though. Try their Age Dashi Tofu! Wonderful!

So good, the place looks so authentic and everything has explanations. The portions are good, I couldn't finish it and the price seems reasonable. I was a bit confused about the entry and if I should just enter or wait to be called 😬 as there was nobody outside at that moment that I could see, but somebody was paying.

My first time here after having wanted to try for a long time. Had sashimi (£15) and salmon offcuts (£5) and they're fresh and great. The pork katsu curry rice was delicious. Japanese tea was offered for free and it tasted good too. Will definitely come back. The service is great and quick.

Japanese people seem to use cruel words no matter where they are in the world. Do not gossip about customers while working. The food was ok, but different from the Japanese taste.

Not authentic and quite disappointed. Am surprised how it has so many reviews and good ratings but then i realised it’s just the location and you’ll see that no one asian eats there. Will not visit ever again. Shocking.
