Came on Wednesday night with my boyfriend. The new restrictions were relaxed which felt amazing. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and explained everything to us regarding the new way which still felt so safe. The food was unreal and the portion sizes were fab defo coming back and telling my friends about this place. Matthew, Kyran and Claire was great.

Great meal and nice and quiet. Food was good and our waitress was very attentive. Gave her our Defence Discount card to get our forces veterans discount but she said they didn’t take it.

There is not much to say about this Toby it is the standard Toby you go to anywhere in the country if you want your mid week roast all the foods are just average and are cooked and served to chain standards, the staff however are very pleasant and seem to care about your visit. Not the best place to dine but certainly not the worst by any standards.

Dropped in for breakfast around 10am today and informed by staff on paying that it had ran out of bacon. (Really) No offer of a reduced cost 🤔 Not a good start, the food on offer was only very average. Hot drinks station not replenish, ran out of milk and hot water. Have to question the manager, poor showing 😡 Won’t be rushing back any time soon 🙀

Firstly this review is 100% genuine and solely my opinion on the day. I have recently dined here and had a lovely meal with very good service. I would not hesitate to return.

Called on way to Scotland, and was disappointed. Very average meal, not the best Toby’s we’ve been to. The vegetable were in need of refilling, and some dishes were just warm. The gravy was also warm. The roast potatoes sitting in fat. Maybe give it a miss on our return journey.

Visited whilst staying in nearby hotel for supper. We all opted for carvery. These choice was 4 roast meats and vegetables, tatties and enormous yorkshire puddings. I opted for gammon and turkey. The meat portion is not huge but you can load plate up with veg, etc. We all enjoyed meal but still had room for pudding. Choc fudge cake for me. Mmmmmmm!! Friendly waitress served us. not the cheapest family meal but all left with full bellies. We even went back the following morning for breakfast as asked waitress about it previous night. You pay on arrival and pick table. The cooked food is buffet style where you help yourself bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, etc. Even yorkshire pudding & gravy if you fancy?? We didn't. Agree previous reviews the toasting machine not great but are any of these machines. It was busier than we thought it would be.

Really enjoyed our carvery today; turkey was delicious, succulent and tender, veg was cooked well; service by Ning very good! Just a note to the management; the trip advisor page for this particular Toby carvery was difficult to find, which is why you probably haven’t had any reviews on here in over a year?! You have some great, hard working staff here, who deserve to receive praise, they’re certainly pushing guests to leave positive feedback, you could make it easier for us to do so. Best wishes

Visited this Toby for a late lunch on Bank Holiday Saturday. Three of us had 'large plate' carvery meal which boasts extra meat, an extra pudding and two chipolata sausages. However, they do not deliver what they boast. There were no chipolatas- they had ran out. The amount of meat was marginally more than a normal plate. What a con trick - avoid.

We ate here recently and were very disappointed. The meat was the only edible thing on the plate. The veg were sloppy and overcooked and the roast potatoes needed a sledge hammer. Possibly the worst Sunday lunch I have ever eaten.

Called in for breakfast on a Sunday morning, all you can eat. Sausage overcooked bacon undercooked still running round the field! Toaster not worth bothering with the first time you put your bread through toast hardly done, do it again and burnt to a crisp! I suppose for £5.99 all you can eat with any amount of cups of tea what can you expect?? Maybe food cooked correctly!!??

Went here last Friday for tea after my daughter Finished school and was politely shown a table. What a lovely time we had. The chef was singing and staff were smiling and laughing which made us feel at home. Food was excellent.....can't go wrong with a roast but it was great. Daughter wants to go again so we will have to see. Lots of other places to visit for dinner/tea etc. Will be coming back

I visited the Toby at Gateshead with my partner on Friday. We usually go to our local one at Middlesbrough, but after been in the Newcastle area decided on giving this ago as like my title states, you know what you are getting. Staff lovely and friendly, atmosphere great, spotlessly clean, and food really good, piping hot and tasty. My partner did complain about the thickness of the meat that was cut for him, but all in all a great little place for a nice traditional roast.

Visited here on Saturday dinner time and to be honest we couldn't complain. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was lovely and the price very reasonable. The place was spotless and would defiantly go back again and would recommend it to our family and friends.

We eat here most Sundays now and receive good value and service each visit. After a really bad experience at Kingston Park Toby involving my little boy slipping in an inch of filthy water in the toilets l swore never to return to Toby. It took a lot of effort to go back to Toby but l have no concerns regarding hygiene or safety at the Metrocentre. I will never go back to Kingston Park though. Breakfasts are really good value and set you up nicely if heading out for a walk or something.

We went for lunch last Sunday having called in at Metro Retail Park. The girl on reception was very friendly and welcoming, there was a 15 minute wait, so she explained the buzzer system, and we went and had a drink in the bar. We were called to our table within the 15 mins, and Rachel who was introduced as our waitress, was friendly and explained everything well. The chef carving the meat in contrast to the 2 girls was bordering on rude, slapping the meat on the plate, and picking it back up and putting on the plate when he had missed! Food was fine, hit the spot, a filling Sunday lunch for £9.50. Think it was £2.50 for a diet coke, but liked the fact you could refill it as much as you wanted at a self service station in the seating area .

Called in for lunch as we just wanted something quick that wasnt deep fried. We were seated quickly and politely on a small 2 table, then offered the chance to move to a larger 4 table as soon as they could clear and re-lay it. £6.99 menu was ham ,beef, turkey or pork (or all four) with second (or even third) helpings of stuffing, a selection of veg, Yorkshire pudding and all the accompaniments and sauces you need. The meat was tender and lean, the veg fresh, yorkie crisp and gravy hot. Cranberry, apple, English & grain mustard, bread sauce etc. We enjoyed our meal and will call again.

Popped in for dinner at around 7pm. Our booking was not wrote in the dairy, but place was deserted on a thursday evening. No customer service skills. Chef made no attempt to speak. He pointed to each roast with his carving knife, no talking at all? We had to say yes or no as he pointed with his knife. Food barely warm, but hot gravy. The ice-cream flavours are all vanilla, the source on the top are flavoured. Very much a canteen not a restaurant !

Had a nice Sunday dinner today. I had the chicken which was a bit dry and my parents had the beef which was very chewy and tough. The veg is separate (generous portions). Swede was watery (not pleasant). Additional Yorkshire puddings are available for £1 extra each. A good range of seasonal veg is given. There is a dog friendly area of the pub (this can be smelly if dogs are wet from the beach)

I went to Life of Riley on Sunday/Monday morning 4th/5th August 2024. We used to call it Spiker Riley as in the past we have had attempts to spike our drinks. The other night we were there till 02:30 and the security in there were absolutely fantastic. One guy inside spotting any trouble and two guys on the door responding. The guys were professional polite and strong when required. My wife and myself felt totally safe as there is the usual mix of Bumpers on Hairy Mikers night. Excellent work guys.
