This used to rock. But have stopped doing food. Which is a massive loss and it's gone quiet. Staff are fab still tho. But get the food menu up n running and get a chef and new kitchen equipment To set the great standards that it has a mega reputation for. What is the management waiting for. Bring on the food ...... Make it great again .....

Despite being 55 years old, my wife and I only visited the new ship for the first time a few days ago ..... I know , we are very late. We were looking for a quieter place with plenty of space, dog friendly, car park and a chilled atmosphere. Well folks...... We found it. We have been back again and will continue to do so Nice bar and pleasant staff. What more could you ask 🙂

We used to live close to this pub 25yrs ago, at that time it was very popular with the locals and passing trade. It does have a car park and lots of outdoor seating, a large conservatory area but, when we where in they were looking for a chef.

Would not recommend the food it wasn't the best, the steak was absolutely awful, over cook, thin and like boot leather, nothing was fresh. The napkins around the cutlery were dry and crusty after being there for so long, the worst place I've eaten in a long time. Over priced and rubbish.

We hadn't been here for quite a while, and we most probably won't go back for a while. The staff were lovely and friendly but one or two things let the place down. FOOD - the mashed swede was over seasoned with pepper to the extent that it made my mouth tingle and burn - not nice at all, and it's usually one of my favourite veg. The roasties were bland and tasted of cooking oil. The gravy was noticeably lumpy. Sprouts were soggy. Only the carrots and mash were enjoyable. The slice of lamb was quite nice, though. For the price of £7 for a 'small' carvery, it was poor in relation to other venues we have tried. CONSERVATORY It's lovely and bright in the conservatory, but it was so hot! The heating was on full blast, and with the sun streaming in, it was very uncomfortable. I'm sorry, I can only give 3 *. In the past, it would have been at least 4*

Visited here for food 30/12/2021. Ordered food at 6pm and came at 6.40. Lasagne was burnt so was taken away and refunded, chips were solid but because they weren’t burnt wouldn’t refund! Attitude all wrong. Then when one of their lovely regulars were leaving approached my table and went to give her opinion on the way i had complained!!! Absolutely shocking, the place has gone extremely downhill!!! Avoid at all costs!

Went on Saturday 03.07.21 around 2pm, due to Covid we expected that someone would have told us which table we could go to but was told "just take any table in the conservatory". The furniture looked very dated and the table was sticky, there was 2 tables on the other side of us which was filled with young men and all you could hear was foul language but nothing was said to them to keep the noise down. The lady cam to ask what we would like to drink and then came back to take our orders for food. Not a great choice, my husband chose gammon, egg and chips and I chose burger an chips, we waited over 30 minutes and finally arrived. the Gammon was over cooked on one side and very fatty, egg ok and chips tasty. My chips were tasty but that was it, the burger was not home made and to be honest I have tasted better at McDonalds, it was the worst burger I have ever tasted, I had taken 2 bites and thats all I could stomach, it was vile. The waitress/barmaid did not come back to see if everything was ok so we went to the bar to pay and she tried to charge us for extra drinks and my husband told her what we had, obviously we left no tip. I used to go to this bar many years ago and was always busy and a great atmosphere, now its just disgusting, never again

We have been here twice for Christmas dinner. Nice food. £45 small size £55 large size. We paid for large sizes. When went up for our dinner, we asked cheif if we could have two meats, although menu states chose one meat choice. He said can have as much as you like, it's Christmas. And can put as much veg ect as you can get on your plate. So pay for small size because we now know you can have what you want Nice cosy place.. staff bend over backwards to make your Christmas dinner special. We have had Sunday carvy too.. was ok. Beef was very tough.. could not cut it, so left it. Veg was lovely as usual. Sunday lunch more pricey than some places.. but food good.. Christmas dinner 2019. Was not as nice as usual. Veg sloppy, custard was tastless, the ice pudding was like a cannon ball, could use as a sling shot. We had to let thrme staff know. We paid £100 per couple.. one small one large dinner. Was not worth the money this year. And the price had risen this year quiet a bit. Not sure will book 2020 Christmas dinner. Had family up from down South for Christmas, their first Christmas dinner there and was embrassing after raving to them about what lovely Christmas dinners we had in the past here. They paid for 3 dinners £150 so ruined our dinner on this special day. They left their puddings and we had trifle at home instead.

It was nice to go into a pub full of old charm but one friend wasn't keen on the seating, but have to say that the meals we had were really lovely and the service was very good too. went to the new ship for lunch today..bit of a disappointment. We had a table booked but is was 45 minutes before we ate. This place is so disorganised and people standing around waiting to be seated does not help. The poor fellow on the carvery had to do most of the work on his own which slowed it down. The food when we got it was quite nice and good portions but this place needs a severe make over because its looking its age and has become a bit shabby and as for some of the customers.I don,t want to sound like a snob but I wore a polo shirt and chinos and was the best dressed bloke in the place! if you go out for a meal you should at least put a clean pair of track suit bottoms on and brush your hair..not some of the ladies who were here today. Its a shame because this was a good place once and could be again if a few bob was spent on it..sorry but thtere are much better places to eat within a few miles and we won,t be going back

Visited for our Sunday Lunch today. First impressions were staff were uninterested, even though we had booked a table. The lady from the bar offered help and sat us at a table. We were then just left to work out the rest for ourself, no sign of a waitress offering assistance as she was too busy chatting! Ended up going to the bar and found out we needed a token for the carvery. Table had not been wiped and was half set. Waitresses just stood in a corner and drank juice and watched us eat, very uncomfortable indeed. Chef was lovely and appeared to be the only nice member of staff interested in serving. Although the potatoes and turnip were laced full of cheap butter ( prob not his fault) good selection of meats and other vegetables but have to say they weren’t very warm. We watched one waitress clearing a table where a family had been sat and they reset it using the same dessert spoons and never moved place mats or condiments to wipe after the previous children had been sat playing with! Took 10 minutest clear a previously used table and three waitresses to reset one for two people. A good manager and properly trained waiting staff and the place could be a gold mine.

Dated, tired and upsetting because with the right management this could be a gold mine. Great location on the edge of Cleadon Village and the more affluent areas of Shields, huge car park and outdoor space. With the right direction this is perfect steak /bistro bar material. Unfortunately at the moment it's just a tired carvery and boiled veg pub.
