Toby Carvey in Derby

Came today (Wednesday). The meat wasn't enough for a toddler so complained, he then tried cutting it wafer thin. The beef was full of fat. He said that's the portion size....didn't used to be before it was updated. Had to ask for veg as wasn't out. Service was good and promptly, just shame about the man on the carvery. Wasn't worth the money so won't be going back.

I am shocked to how nice the food was and how big the selection was including dumplings, mac and cheese, parsnips and three different kinds of potatoes all of which were lovely and the choice of meat being, lamb, beef, pork, gammon or turkey....the environment was busy so I'd suggest going after 1pm but the service was excellent and great value for money

Had a lovely breakfast with family. Tasty food, refillable drinks and amazing service from Maxine! 😊 will definitely return

Disappointing visit, didn’t have the drink my daughter wanted, didn’t have the cheese to top off the yorkie wrap we’d ordered, didn’t have any side salad - plates were requested as one with salad one with potatoes but no communication and both plates arrived with potatoes. Was only told when plates arrived of the lack of salad. I also asked for ketchup but that didn’t arrive at all. When I asked if something could be done to reduce the bill I was told no, they could give us something extra for free but not reduce the bill. Neither of us wanted the extra item so had to pay full price or have a face off in the middle of the place with the manager. Won’t be rushing back to a Toby Carvery. I will say the carvery itself did look good and lots of people seemed to be enjoying it. We just had a disappointing experience.

absolutely amazing!! we came for food over the weekend and the carvery was absolutely delicious! everything was cooked to perfection and they had plenty of food on the deck so there was plenty to choose from! we was served by the lovely cerys and lewis! they was very helpful!! very impressed with the service and the staff!! will definitely be coming back!!!

Called in with 2 friends for a cold drink on a sunny day.We each had a small bottle of coke and a bag of crisps ......£14.00….. what a rip off. Won't be going back !!!!

Warm welcome and lovely re-decoration. Served by Carmie who was friendly and very efficient. We all had a great meal too full for dessert, but enjoyed coffee and teas. The carvery is excellent value for money and has a great atmosphere. Reece was to-days carver. As a group we always enjoy our meet up here and highly recommend as a place to visit with family or friends.

Food turns cold two minutes after it's on your plate. Either save your money and make it yourself or go to somewhere else that actually serves the food hot. Meat was cold. Gravy was cold. Yorkshire pudding cold. Definitely not what you want in winter. What a shame.

First visit after refurbishment and must say it looks good . It really did need some money spending on it . Booked our table as usual and we were lucky to Cody looking after us , bringing our drinks and second round after we ‘d eaten . Now to the important bit . … Let’s face it , it’s not a cheap at £9.49 each and the least we would expect is warm food , the Yorkshire were stone cold , the server reached underneath a got a fresh tray out when we were in the queue. They were cold , as were the cut beans and the swede . As Ive said before , it can be very hit and miss eating here . The one thing that stopped this night out from being a wash out was the attentive service from Cody .

We met family here for drinks and decided to stay for lunch. After taking a while to get the attention of a member of staff to see if they could accommodate us (they were very busy), we were seated in a quiet area near the back of the restaurant. We weren't sure how to order but after a few minutes our server Tracy arrived. She was great... cheerful and efficient. We were soon tucking into the carvery meals and one of our guests chose a sandwich off the menu, which she said was very nice. All of the food was lovely and we all left quite satisfied. All of the staff were nice, but shoutout to Tracy, she is an absolute asset to Toby Carvery!

Absolutely spottless inside. Met with a smile. The ladies taking out order were both bubbly, like a double act. Maxine was especially funny and helpful. Breakfast is amazing. Not a bad thing to say. Thanks.

They dont cater for children with special needs . My son whos 8 and autisic wanted the carvery but he only wanted the meat as he doesnt eat anything else from the carvey selection - the amount he got was tiny , concidering he only had meat which i told the chef at the time too and to be honest came across quite rude. he ate his meats in about 5 mins and was still starving - to which we asked he he could have more meat - nothing else as before and was told he had to upgrade to a king size plate for extra £1.99? This is not acceptable to be honest as i paid for a kids full carvery and to be honest didnt get half of that really. My son is autisic and has sensory needs which i feel your restrant just didnt really care about - so after paying for a full kids carvery for him - had to make another dinner for him when we came home. Im quite disgusted to be honest - seeing as we explained the situation to the server and chef and they were just uninterested! They obviousy cannot cater for disabled people and take no care with them either.

Lovely carvery Carly was our sever, and was polite and delivered great service ! Sadly too full for puddings, maybe next time

Since the refurb; loved the decor, the food, the brilliant staff but, you've shoe-horned too many tables into the same area as before. It felt more like being in a cafeteria than a restaurant.

Awful. They were surprised they were busy on a Sunday. Waited almost half hour over our booked slot. The queue was going round 4 lines. The staff look lost. Bar staff serve regulars in front of people waiting. We left having not eaten and being told they’re very busy. Proper joke. They don’t deserve your money

I must admit my last review of this Toby Carvery in June was far from complimentary, but others in our group wanted to visit again and we decided to give it another try . How can 2 visits be so different? This time although it seemed as busy as usual the carvery didn’t look too bad , ok there wasn’t any gammon but the turkey and pork were fresh and the beef did look appetising. The queue wasn’t long when we joined it and we were quickly served with our choice of meats , huge yorkshires and a pretty good choice of vegetables which weren’t dried up . The most positive point we d like to make is that we were lucky to have Harry attending to our table , a very polite , cheerful young man . He really is an asset . We understand the Toby is closing for a much needed refurbishment, looking forward to seeing what they do with it .

I had a craving for a Xmas dinner and we settled on Toby, but I again left disappointed with this visit. It was eerily quiet when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon. We found a table, but there was no sign of the festive menu option. . . It was that quiet that a few members of staff were passing the time by having conversations across the pub, really not caring who knew about their weekend plans and how their shift was going. We both had a carvery, but there were no pigs in blankets or parsnips, the lamb was very chewy and it was all just ok. We didn't bother with dessert and, again, went to Scoops instead. I find the table service option they adopt very random. It doesn't feel like a table service type of pub. When it came to the bill the girl brought it over and just hovered, waiting for payment. It felt very uncomfortable and I again left thinking we should have gone elsewhere.

Came in for lunch today with a group of friends from Headway Derby. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the three course festive menu. The lady that bought us the food out was phenomenal and worked so hard. Was very impressed by how hard the staff worked. Will definitely be returning!

Love Toby carvery, but every time I have been to Derby, service is very slow and waiting for food, which is cold and dry. Not overly friendly.

Unfriendly staff, women was rude when we mentioned we had discount, so asked for another receipt. Beef was nice. Lots of waiting at different points, while entering, for food. Cold yorkshires, lumpy gravy. Staff didn’t check in, even though really quiet.

Had Breakfast here and it was good. Buffet style and you could have as much as you wanted. It was all pretty much standard stuff for hot food and toast (no cereals or fruit juices). Bacon, Sausage, Eggs (no choice, fried only), hash browns, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms were the choices. Bacon was excellent. All food cooked well. Could probably do with a few signs to tell you what’s what, by the toaster there’s jam and what was possibly marmalade just be useful to know what it is. Same with the coffee/milk just a few labels would be helpful. Good breakfast, friendly staff, clean’ish (few crumbs here and there) but overall I’ve no complaints. I’d have no problem going back for breakfast again.

Worst breakfast I’ve ever had in my life!! Dried out old sausages, fried eggs chucked into a dish all smashed up Inedible hash browns god knows how old they were! Don’t get me started on the decor! Filthy place, rotting windows muck bits of old food all down the back of the chairs. The only good thing about the place is you can park. Shut it down for a refurb it’s dire in there!!!

Stephanie, the manager was fantastic! We had a situation in the bathroom and she helped us out no end. No judgement, just polite and courteous. We had the carvery, and it was nice! Good selection of veg and plenty of meat. What’s not to like for under £15!

We used delivery service to get and ultimate meat carvery and a carvery for one. Cant tell you which was the ultimate meat since only tiniest piece of beef with each meal.

If you don't mind eating razor thin slices of meat off of dirty dishes and empty vegetable pots, rude management than this is the place for you. We will never go back which is a shame as we only live down the street.
